This place is an all around great place. It's a great place to take your family, go on a first date or to just meet up with friends for a drink. I love the detailed decor and rustic antique look they went for. There is so much to look at and every time you go you see something new. It is definitely warm and cozy. The food is great too. 6 days ago I wrote up a 1 star review for the crystal lake location. Honestly I still feel the same way about the Manager that we had to deal with there! However, the Elgin location by far has THE BEST TEAM.... thanks for addressing and getting the necessary people involved to HEAR about the lack of professionalism we experienced! Collin, Blain, Amanda (today)...their supervisor also come by to hear and acknowledge the issue we had last week. So many great employees....ie. Mary, Frank, Amanda that keep us coming back... Sorry that they have to work with what i consider to be one bad egg. read more

Two stars and earned every one ... Sure I like good, even great service, when I dine out and Nick's staff offers very good service ... However food is the reason for the occasion and Nick's just wasn't able to live up to those Yelp reviews. The beer nuggets weren't anything special. Just a beer battered bite that seemed a wee bit on the under cooked side. As for the pie, merely forgettable. Based on the pizza reviews our experience is either a statistical outlier or the people that visit this western burbs pie joint don't know what *real* pizza is supposed to taste like. If you do nothing else at Nick's, throw your peanut shells on the ground. Being well-accustomed to this kind of dining, as soon as I sat, I proceeded to knock back a few peanuts and gleefully throw the shell carcass on the ground. My eating companions were shocked/horrified. But, when the waitress came by to take our order and give an approval to my behavior (if not an excited one), the looks abated and I continued my legume love. But, there's much more to Nick's than nuts and moose knuck... antlers on the wall. You're here for the pizza and/or pub. I focused on the pub. The meal got started with an order of beer nuggets. What are beer nuggets? No, I'm asking. I have no idea. They came with ranch dressing, marinara and cheese sauces. They didn't taste like much. They're fried. Um, yeah. That's about all I have. Beer nuggets: good sauce, little taste, fried. Actually, that's probably all the endorsement I need to give. Why stop with the nugget when you can have the beer? That one was rhetorical. One frosty Domaine DuPaige French Country Ale later and I had a good impression why Nick is known for pubbin'. The draft and bottle menu here is appropriately festive and packed with enough ol' reliables to keep your party going (or, get it started). Never one to simply nosh on nibbles and kick back a few, I filled my belly with a buffalo chicken wrap. Served with a healthy order of fries, this combo of chicken tenders, onions, buffalo sauce, bleu cheese, tomato, and crunchy lettuce really hit the spot. And did I mention that it's served with bleu cheese dressing on the side? Yeah. That, too. You're welcome. read more

I was driving around elgin and saw this place and decided to give it a try. I absolutely loved the feel, its very cabin like. The antler chandeliers and wooden beams were beautiful. The service was very friendly and prompt. Our server was tanya, she was sweet and helpful. For our meals, we both ordered burgers with a side of fries. The only thing i didbt like was that the coleslaw was very warm so i didnt eat any of it, but everything else was great. We will be back again and will try the pizza next. read more

We hadn't been to Nick's in at least a year, but were excited to go back because we always loved the pizza. I have no idea what changed in the last year, but this was not the same pizza we had in the past. It didn't appear to be an "off" night either, it was busy, but only about a 20-minute wait. The sausage was on par with what you would expect on a frozen pizza. Small bits with no flavor. The cheese didn't even cover the entire pizza - there were big areas with only sauce showing. And the crust had absolutely no flavor. I seriously can't believe the positive reviews for this place. I don't know how anyone could have gotten the pizza we did and say it was the best they've ever had. We were so disappointed. Maybe these are cost-cutting measures because of the financial problems? If you want a sit-down pizza place in the area, go to Aurelios in Geneva or Charlie Fox's in St. Charles. read more

When I got there I was impressed, an instant freebie for a Yelp! check-in, the place had a nice atmosphere, and the staff was friendly & helpful. But that is where it ended. Let me preface this by admiting that it was a busy night, (There was a fundraiser for a boy who needed a lung transplant, which is why I was there to begin with) and the wait for a table was 25-40 minutes. So I decided to go to the carryout. At the carryout, they told me it would be 10 minutes, so I ordered, and my daughter & I went to talk to some of her friends that were there for the fundraiser. When I felt that we were at that 10 minute mark, I went back in to the carryout area & waited for them to call me. 20 minutes later, I asked the girl at the desk to look if my order was ready. She couldn't find it. At 42 minutes after I ordered, the manager of the carry-out area told me that they lost my ticket and that she would need my order again, and that she would have it in 7 minutes. She did everything I would expect a manager to do in that situation, she apologized, offered me free items, but I have to admit, at that point it didn't matter. I asked for and received a refund for my order, and I will not be returning to Nick's Pizza and Pub. My daughter was upset, because she said I embarrassed her, and she was worried that the boy won't get enough money for his transplant, but I don't feel that a business that doesn't deliver on its services, deserves my money. I don't know, maybe it's the wooden-shoe in me. All that and you can't use your freebie "munchies" for a check-in at the carry-out area. I have yet to be able to take advantage of a check-in offer!!! I finally found a place that has a good one & this happens. Hmmmph. read more

Umm, is it weird that I had a strange desire to try taxidermy after my visit? Well, you may feel this same way after seeing all the stuffed birds and mounted animals this place proudly displays. Its as if an old school cabin, nature museum, and restaurant had baby! But interestingly, if I remember correctly, the structure was built with the family's old dairy farm. But anywho, lets talk food! In addition to the abundance of complimentary peanuts, I had an Italian beef with spicy peppers. Yup, pretty standard. As for the service, our waitress was nice but slacked on the water refill. Even though our table had a pitcher of water, that only filled our initial cups and we were left dry the for the remaining of the meal. Come on... no one has to tell you peanuts will get your patrons thirsty! And for me personally, I could have used a refill or two with all those hot peppers! Basic impressions: It's alright; good place to bring your family and accommodates large parties. Even though I'm giving it 3 stars, I'm hoping for the best for this local establishment... a new Portillos just opened, literally across the street, with many of the same menu items. Good pizza although I've had much better. Constant flow of peanuts and tossing the shells on the floor oddly enough gives you a liberating feeling :-) Come on, it's not every day you get to throw food on the floor and further more, we didn't have to clean it up :-) I liked the casual atmosphere; lodge style building/structure filled with stuffed animals. Nick's was refreshing for a number of reasons. 1. I'm tired of having to take out financing every time I decide to sit in a bar and have a drink. Nicks had really reasonable prices for drinks and appetizers. I ddn't have to make a choice between car payment or a beer. 2. The staff was uber friendly. We got cheeky with our bartender, Sherry, and all the waitstaff who were in earshot joined in the fun. 3. The management was as genuine and friendly as the staff. 4--and this was my favorite, the atmosphere. Warm and friendly. Wood tables and walls. Love the huge front doors because you can't help but make a dramatic entrance! Warm fireplace and cozy booths. 5. They're really doing some sustainable things with how the place was built and with how they run the business, and because they're sustainable they're MORE affordable, not more expensive like so many of these places who wave the green card but fail to show any real sustainability. I really enjoyed myself there last night and I will go back! read more

If you really think this is the best pizza out there, you obviously have limited experience, probably including only Dominos and Pizza Hut. - Pizza is AWFUL. I've had better frozen pizza before. Cheese is greasy with barely any flavor, the sauce is way too sweet and the crust tastes like cardboard. 1 1/2 pieces and I was done. -I've had better salads at Gyro stands. Ranch dressing was super watery. I would be money they actually water it down so it goes farther. -Water was OK until I found a dead fruit fly in mine. - the "new to Nick's, Merlot!" tasted like the bottle had been sitting open for a month. I sent it back for some Reisling, which wasn't great, but OK. -Beams and anything on the walls is super dusty. Set my allergies off. -Way too cold. I was nearly shivering. -Dead, stuffed animals hanging on the walls, and a dead bear propped in the corner. So, in case you want to know all about how a bear (possibly endangered) was slaughtered so people eating shitty pizza had something to look at other than dust, this is your place. This Nick's has been open about a year and a half now. We like it for it's good food and relaxed/casual/peanuts-on-the-floor atmosphere. Pizza is their main item and they're very good, but a bit pricey for the size. The calzone is a favorite, as is their super italian sub. Open Sunday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. Wheelchair accessible. read more

Pizza was ok for Chicago. The meatball sliders tasted frozen and the beer nuggets (bread and dipping sauce) seemed very unhealthy---but tasty! I would probably go back to try something different but for pizza would definitely do Lou Malnati's all day long. read more

Recently Nick's Pizza has had some financial issue due to road construction and other related economic woes. Nick took a random roll of the dice and reached out to the community and asked for assistance. I have to commend Nick, and the results are amazing! The community stepped up, brought friends, and reached out above and beyond to get Pizza & Beer to show support. Some guests even tore up their frequent diner coupons and paid full price. Where else does this happen? Nick's is a great place for friends and families to enjoy fresh thin crust pizza. The beer is cold and the staff is as friendly as they come, the bar flies are awesome and make for a fun night at the bar. I highly recommend this as a place to visit. Nick has been very kind to his patrons in the past and the fact that the community is stepping up to save the restaurant speaks volumes. All I am saying here is GO TO NICK'S! Help, be part of something GREAT! Our country is built by small business and they are the foundation in what we believe in. Don't let one in your town fail! We use to live in Crystal Lake and went to the Nicks there quite a few times. I think this location is actually better than the Crystal Lake location, not that there anything wrong there. It had been awhile since I had eaten at Nicks and thought that it was much better than I remembered. The Pizza was excellent, really is the best thin crust anywhere in the area. Gotta love the baskets of peanuts on the tables and the shells on the floor, its a great family place and a great bar. I love this place! If you can't tell by the number of check ins here I can't get enough. When my favorite pizza place closed in St charles I struggled to find a new favorite. This fit the bill! The staff is ALWAYS nice. The pizza is high quality and can be cooked to order. I haven't tried anything else on the menu except a few of the apps, which were just ok. That's why I'm giving it a 4. I think my love of the place is that it's right around the corner and everyone is friendly.. this is my "Cheers"... where everyone knows my name. Love the decor. Love the pizza. Halloween night, bad weather...... thought I'd end the night by taking my kids out for pizza at Nicks at 990 S Randall Rd in Elgin. Food was slow. Service was slower. Waitress Morgan had friends stop by and attended to them very well. Unlike everyone Else. By the looks on the faces of people at a few adjoining tables, I wasn't the only one that noticed. The bad tip became a certainty when waiting 10 minutes for my card to get added to my check/table. The card had been sitting on the table with the check awhile and Morgan walked past and instead of getting it she picked up a child from her friends table and said..... "we have to get uncle Johnny another beer......" nice. There weren't very many customers in the entire restaurant either. The food wasn't bad. Not sure why I would be given cold marinara sauce when ordering extra for a calzone though. read more

Throwback to Goodness-Ville. Other reviews have said, this has a lodgy feel. If you like that, you're gonna love it. Personally, for a pizza place I think it's perfect. It's cozy-casual. Pizza is the king of Au Casual foods. With apps you could put down a whole meal without touching a single piece of silverware. Doesn't get a whole lot more casual than that in my book. There is a bunch of taxidermy all over the place, so if you're going to picket please do so during the week so as not to interrupt my pizza foraging. Anyhow all of these critters definitely imparts a woodsy feel. It gives the kids something to look at besides the ipad also. They're distracted, you're happy. You're happy because they've got a decent beer list. And the kids are distracted. The Pizza is also pretty/very good. I'm going 8 on a 10 scale. For thin I think it's the best in the immediate area. It's kind of somewhere between New York thin and Chicago thin, but I'm willing to bet if you like either you'll do just fine here. Toppings are good, plenty of cheese etc. All around good pie. Service is good. Place is always jumping and I've never felt too deserted and it seems they've got enough staff to run good crowd control. We've been a couple of times and no doubt will be hitting it again. read more

We had a party of 20 people. There were 3 other parties with 15 or more to each party. Nick does not allow reservations so he did not know that he had 4 big parties coming in on a Sunday night. That is ridiculous to not take reservations. There was another party of 50 that came in after the 4 parties and had to wait an hour to be seated. The service was bad, 1 participant in our party did not get their food. If you have a party of 10 or more, I would go somewhere that has reservations. Nick's Pizza is not the place to do that. read more

I met a friend at Nick's. I was a bit unsure about going here. My wife's boss got her wallet stolen last time she was here so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. My friend was a little late getting there so the peanuts were nice to have! Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. It was kind of a cool place with a sort of cabiny feel to it. We had a large Nick's Special pizza which has cheese, sausage, mushroom, onion, and green pepper that seemed to be delivered to our table in just minutes. It was more than enough for two guys and for each of us to take some home enough for breakfast the next morning. The pizza was good - just needed a little salt, which can be fixed easily enough. Neither of us had any alcohol so I can't comment on that. The wait staff was great - attentive enough without being annoying. She kept our iced tea full and was right there to wrap up our left overs and leave the check. For me, that's all I want. I'll definitely be going back. read more

Is it expensive as hell yes it was ..15 buks for a 12 inch sausage pizza..but the pizza was fantastic reminded me of home..sweet home Chicago,that is where they know what pizza tastes like.. not this shit they try to pass off as pizza here in elgin.. Great thin crust pizza, amazingly friendly and upbeat staff, and fun atmosphere for a pizza parlor. This would be a great place to take the family!! There is tons of seating space - I don't foresee anyone having to wait too long for a table at any given time. Nick's definitely offers a different environment for any restaurant but they've done an amazing job on making it a unique and fun pizza joint. My husband's only complaint was that there should be more of a beer selection. It was quite minimal for our pizza and beer night. read more

Nick's is one of my favorite pizza places in the area- I'm giving it three stars because that is what I feel when I think of Nick's. The pizza is good- I love that they use fresh ingredients- but the menu does not have a lot of variety, and the rest of the food is just okay. When I've been in the restaurant, the service has been just okay too. I most often order carry out pizza and that is it, because I don't really love anything else. If you are looking for delicious pizza though, Nick's is the place! (And the peanuts are a nice touch too). read more

Cool looking exterior with ample parking. Entrance is nice while a tad bit on the darker side. Gives the guests a Northwood's cabin feel. Tons of species from a taxidermist all over and neat chandeliers from antlers. Good size bar area and lots of seating on the main floor. There is extra rooms and even a balcony with tables so no worries on getting seated. Good selection of beers and a full bar . Wish the restaurants not Houston would take a note on decor instead of the plain cafeteria style that every place uses. Great menu with GF options on virtually every thing including pizza and even a GF beer! Wait staff friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Free peanuts at every table are a nice touch. I've been driving past here for years, always wondering how it was. Well I finally bit the bullet on a nice Friday night and decided to stop in with my wife. I was not disappointed at all! From the hostess to the waitress the service was fantastic. The atmosphere is definitely a unique experience. Peanut shells on the ground, taxidermed animals all over the walls, a couple of fish tanks, but a lot of seats! The place was busy, but we were sat right away. We got a free appetizer for checking in, and it was delicious, we had the beer nuggets, worth the extra 50 cents to get all the sauces. And we had pizza. I was happy with the pizza. Love this place, everything about it adds up to a 5 star. Takes me an hour to travel to the restaurant but diffidently worth the trip. The outdoor/vintage theme is awesome and makes you feel like you are eating in the lodge. Lastly, always a fan of places where you can throw peanuts on the floor, big fan of the heavy iron front door, and can't go wrong with checking out the fish in an aquarium. Reminds me of a Cabela's, but gets better. Service is always top notch, professional and amazingly fast, definitely has Jimmy Johns beat on speed. Upon showing up at Nick's you will always see a packed parking lot, but you'll never wait more than 15 minutes for a table. Waitresses are always super helpful, keep your drinks completely filled and upon ordering your food comes out super fast. Although there are awesome sandwiches and other side dishes on the menu, the pizza is some of the best thin crust pizza around. I'm also a big fan of the beer dough dippers, just something about dipping it into the nacho cheese dip. read more

I only ever order one thing here, because I like it so damn much: the Italian sandwich. I think the quality of meat on it is high, and I also think the dressing they put on the sandwich is so good, it makes the sandwich. But I've also tried the pizza, and it's a pretty good thin crust. It's not something you'd want to go out of your way for, but if you're in the area, or you're driving past, and hungry, it's worth a stop. Also, there are baskets of peanuts EVERYWHERE inside the restaurant, and who can resist popping peanuts out of shells and munching? It's a very laid back place--and also a good place to take a large group, because they have a room dedicated to accomodating those sorts of groups. read more
