Flat out the best thin-crust pizza in the area. The owner is also very customer-focused. The first time I visited, Nick himself visited our table to ask how we enjoyed our food. I was impressed because Nick's is such a large, busy restaurant. Other things to love about Nick's: 1) The servers are friendly. This was our first time here, and it was awesome! As soon as you walk in, it has a nice cabin feel with a large variety of taxidermy all around. There is a large fireplace in the center of the restaurant and it has a really nice atmosphere. Our waitress stopped by our table very fast and was very attentive. We got a free order of beer nuggets for our Yelp check-in and oh em gee they were amazing! You can choose between marinara, ranch, or cheese sauce to dip your nuggets in, and they are so tasty. For what it is, it is the best in the business. Honest food at a good price that you can always count on to be consistent in both quality and taste. I have eaten here alot and can honestly say that across the board I have always been at least satisfied and more often than not, blown away by the quality of what was on my plate. The beer nuggets are mostly just a vehicle for condiments which is still pretty good. Decor is fun. Margarita pizza is excellent. Kids love the place. Personally I would steer clear of the peanuts because they don't change them out after you leave. The next guest gets the same peanut basket as the guest before. I so wanted to love this pizza. I go past this place all the time -- it looks great, and is always packed. The atmosphere is amazing, peanuts (you can throw shells on the floor). Love it. Now, if only the pizza was any good. Wow, it was horrible. One of the worst restaurant pizzas I've ever had (I've had worse frozen pizzas, but I've also had frozen pizzas that were much better than this). The crust wasn't too bad, but I'm not really sure what's happening with everything else on that crust. The sauce was just weird (like it was just tomato paste mixed with water and a little basil), the cheese and meat were even weirder. Anyway, I won't be going back -- for pizza at least, which is a real shame. If you want a good place to drink some beer, Nick's is probably great for that. The atmosphere is fantastic. read more

My class at college (Judson University) went here for dinner towards the end of the semester on a Tuesday for half-price pizzas. We probably ordered about 7-8 large pizzas and finished them all!!! Well I don't know whether that's because were college kids or what it was pretty good. This doesn't have anything to do with the food but I'm an avid social networking guy (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and found it very appeasing that they were offering Facebook & Twitter only offers to their followers!! Driven past this place a million times, but never stopped. Nothing against the place, but it's a long way from home and we were either on our way somewhere, or eager to get home. So when my Real Estate Broker Missus listed a property nearby, time finally came to drop in. If you don't like taxidermy, stay out of here, as there is a veritable stuffed zoo on the walls, which creeped out my Animal Activist wife. The rest of the place is faux-rustic, looking smaller on the inside than it looks from the street. Started with Garlic Knots. Little hunks of bread with a lite coating of garlic butter or oil or something. Served with a fabulous Cheese sauce. I normally don't like bright orange "cheez wiz" type stuff, unless it's on a Philly Cheesesteak, but THIS stuff is really fine. There's some beer or ale in there, and almost like a Rarebit in flavor. They also serve a Marinara which is not as spectacular as the Cheese, but good nonetheless. The Pizzas are weird. Thin crust. I'm not a big pizza fan, but this pie has got something compelling. Can't put my finger on it. My first impression is that these are all frozen/pre-made like the bullshit pies you get at a corner bar. They LOOK mass-produced, but I refuse to believe they are-they are that good. The small is just enough so you don't walk away feeling like you swallowed a bowling ball. When I try to evaluate the parts, I come up with nothing special. It's not dripping with excess cheese, and it's hard to tell if the good Marinara served with the Garlic knots is the source of the tomato. I get Sausage, fresh Garlic and Anchovies. When it's all put together, it's one fine pie. Service is good, prices are a little high...but: Even if it IS a pre-fab disc, it's a good feed. Go figure. read more

So, thinking this was more of a pub than a cabin in the northwoods, I was a little surprised by all the trophy busts. Yes, they had fans or the air conditioning blowing on a taxidermied animals to give the impression they were alive? I dk, that's my impression. Anyhow, I had a serious craving for an Italian beef sandwich with mozz, au jus and marinara. So, i went on a recommendation. We elected for a couple jack & cokes. Acceptable. I decided to get the bruschetta for an app. The bread consisted of long breadsticks; open faced slices of bread that had been brushed with a garlic butter. The Roma tomatoes were delicious. However, I was a bit surprised to see red onion in the mix. Overall, I liked the twist. I ordered the Italian beef with mozz and giardineria. Yes, I had to ask for the side of marinara after my sandwich arrived. They forgot. I did not. :) The sandwich was moist but not too wet. It held up under what had to be a half pound of delicious shaved beef. I ate the whole thing. The fries on the other hand, yea, not so delicious. They may have been cut fresh but the spongy shoe-laced shaped fries caught me off guard. I though I saw steak fries on the menu. My friend had the chicken Caesar salad. She mentioned that it was good and even elected to bring the extra with her. This place is excellent for large groups and families. Lots of parking and many levels to the restaurant. The decor hasn't been wiped down in many moons. There was a fine layer of dust on all the fixtures at our table. And, the antler light too. The dust could be related to the fact that you get sat with a basket of peanuts that can be thrown on the floor. An interesting experience. Service, service, service. I don't usually go to a restaurant simply based on their philosophy -- but after visiting Nick's, I just might start. All of the staff -- 22 of them, btw -- were engaging and ready to greet or help -- or just smile and say "hi." This place has some very important things figured out about how to train and retain staff. The beer and food was good honest stuff; nothing "show stopping" but honest hand-tossed pizzas and Chicago hot dog stand fare at good prices. I was surprised at how little my towering 28-oz draft Blue Moon cost (with the obligatory orange slice; not a thing I dig really, but an indication that the bar staff knows their business). The "beer nuggets" were interesting; fried bits of dough, sprinkled with Parmesan and served with a side of cheddar cheese sauce. Pretty nice place right along the Randall Road conglomeration of every big box store and chain restaurant you could hope for. Good service and nice pizza (the thin crust is pretty solid). The decor is very lodge-y, and the taxidermic animals kept my two year old daughter entertained, so I was happy with that. This place is really nice and amazing! Nick's Pizza & Pub is one of the most visited spots here in this area of Elgin. Their pizza is very unique and mind-blowing. Just by looking at the pictures of it, you can really tell that it is worth trying and also mouth-watering. They serve the pizza on time, fresh, hot, and with creativity. You can also try their fries, salad, sandwiches, and cool beverages. Everything they have is on point and affordable. Their portions were also generous and fair. We went for lunch today and the place was busy due to Spring Break. Our server, Mary, was one of the best servers we have ever had. She was very attentive and made us feel like we were her only guests in the restaurant. She seemed like she was taking care of everyone by herself too. We always had drink refills before we noticed we were even out of beverages. She was the STAR of our experience. The only reason I give this place four stars out of five is due to the inconsistency. The kind of place you can curl up in on a winter's night and have some drinks, pizza and feel perfectly content. The basket's full of peanuts that you de-shell and throw on the floor just adds to the special, unique feel of the place. The pizza is delicious. Best thin crust in the area. My only complaint is that they don't offer a larger size pizza for a bigger group of people but we just order a lot of the largest size and it works out. Usually this place is very good. But I went there on Father's Day and had nothing but mistakes being made. They did make up for it though thanks to Kenny our server. First mistake was we ordered draft beers and they gave us bottles. Second mistake was they gave us a pizza missing the key ingredient roast beef. Third mistake was they charged us $11 for a pitcher when it was on sale for $9. But since we received free appetizers for Father's Day and the pizza was taken off because of the mistake we ended up leaving very full and only paying for beer. Don't get me wrong by this review I love this place and would go there again and again. You just have to remember everyone makes mistakes it's how they fix them that matters. The rating was only 3 stars based on the level of service received. My first attempt at eating their food was a grub hub order, sorry they don't offer online ordering through their site. The order was placed at 5:00 and marked for delivery by 6:10 or earlier. At 6:15 I called for a status check on our order, after waiting on hold awhile I was told the order was just being started. They apologized and said the order would be expedited and it was. They delivered it around 7:00 with some items missing and no explanation. When I talked to them they said our next order would be no charge for the inconvenience. Fast forward 3 weeks we decided to try them for dinner again and to take them up on the offer to make things right. It didn't take long to see that wasn't going to happen easy. When placing an order I was told their were no notes in the system and the only thing I could have no charge was a soda and bag of peanuts. I'm not one to ask for an entire meal to be comped but when you make that offer you should keep your word. After about 5 minutes on hold I was told the order would be free but they were putting notes in the system that I received it so I couldn't get another one. Apparently I'm being accused of being deceitful or the have so many people getting free meals for experiencing problems they can't keep us all straight. The food is pretty damn good. The house burger is better than portillos or most anyone else nearby, for an added kick it's available with a fried egg on it too. Buffalo wings and buffalo wrap were good but spicier than most people can enjoy and had too much vinegar in the sauce for my liking. Pizza is good, beer nuggets are addictive as crack and melt in your mouth. The only thing I wouldn't order again was the pesto chicken sandwich, needed more pesto and less bread. You'll enjoy the food but I hope the service is better at the restaurant than it is for delivery. read more

The food and service here are amazing. The food here is delicious! Whether you're in for dinner or dessert, you're sure to leave satisfied. The waiters are always super friendly. Each time the waitress has been absolutely amazing, checking in on us to see if we needed anything every now and then. The service was incredible. I was with a party of 6 just today and we received our food very quickly. I felt very respected there. We were there for an after-confirmation celebratory dinner, and, after ordering our desserts, they informed us that they would be free. That was very thoughtful. I also love the rustic look. Some of the wood they have in there is over 100 years old, but still provides a cozy and old-timey environment. In conclusion I'd say this is a great place to eat, especially with a family or group! read more

There are free peanuts that you can throw on the floor - which is great when you have a toddler, because I didn't feel like a burden when he got crumbs on the floor either. There's also a definite "outdoors" theme going on and once we happened to have a fish tank right above our booth which entertained my son as well! The beer selection was decent and fairly priced. The thin crust pizza was excellent! We just had our District 300 high school swim team banquet at the Elgin location. About 60 athletes, coaches, parents, and siblings attended. The private room was the perfect size. Staff was great at keeping the pizza and soft drinks well stocked, buffet-style. You can't imagine how these boys can put away the pizza - like a plague of locusts. The pizza was very good, and they even had gluten-free pizza for those who requested it. The cookies were also delicious. The wide glass doors close if you want to keep the noise from the dining room out of the private room (and vice-versa). I highly recommend Nick's for casual private parties. Many times I've also enjoyed Nick's regular dining area, and their carry-out, in Crystal Lake. One suggestion I would make, is for Nick to invest in a good flat screen TV for the private room. We played a season recap multimedia presentation, and all they had was an ancient 30" tube standard def TV and a DVD player. I brought in a 42" HD TV with a laptop and speakers for a much better HD show that people could see from the back of the room. This is the first time I had been to Nick's. First off the service is really great. We were seated right away, on a Saturday night. Our server was prompt at coming to our table, even though she was quite busy. She took our drink order and was back in 2 minutes to take our order. Being that this was my first time to Nick's, I wanted to try something familiar. I ordered the beef and asked for it to be dipped/juicy. The food came out very fast! What I am used to is a spicy/salty au jus and a tender beef. What I tasted was a extremely bland au jus and very, very tough beef. The fries that came with it were cold and not cooked all the way through. I will add the coleslaw was really really good! I don't know if it was prepared at the restaurant or if it was store bought. It might be a while but, I might be back. Next time I am only trying the pizza, though! read more
