Mel's pizza has been the go to pizza parlor our family has enjoyed for years. It's thin crust or bust. Our kids grew up on Mel's. Andy is the chief cook and bottle washer, tell him how you want your pie made, it's pie cut for me. If you have the gang over make it party cut. Thick or thin. any toppings you want, Mel's has them. When I get pizza I usually pick up an extra pie to surprise a neighbor or to drop a big party cut one off at the police department or the fire department across the street from Mels, they are always grateful. read more

I used to be a regular for years. I ordered for pick up I was early I started to look and I can't believe the city or county would let this place make or sell food. I have never seen such a filthy restaurant from the counter, kitchen and overall, the place needs a bath. read more

Service is super friendly, but that's the only positive I can give them. Stuffed pizza was over cooked, and the cheese was stuck to the parchment paper. The inferno wings were not spicy at all. read more

Mel's is in a small, dated strip mall next to some dance studios. The pizza is very good but I would recommend getting it to go or delivered. The restaurant booths and bathrooms are very dated and quite frankly, dirty. I dined in and had an ample sized dinner salad and a large pizza so I could take some home. Staff is nice, and pizza was very good. Had 1/2 Canadian bacon and onion, other half sausage mushroom. If I was rating the pizza alone it would be five stars. read more

Decided to try this place after reading about it on "You Know You're From Elgin" Facebook feed. A lot of people were complimenting the pizza on the feed. Yelp on the other hand had mixed reviews, but still most reviews were good and I try not to let these sway my judgement. My two cent though after ordering a pizza last night is that falls into the UGH category. After waiting an hour and a half (grant it, a Saturday night, but still) for delivery, the pizza was stone cold upon opening the box, not a great start. The pizza was nasty, crust and sauce both bland, overall NOT GOOD! Even with fave ingredients on it, you would have thought ordering fresh garlic on it would give it some life, but sadly no. Ugh....look elsewhere if you're looking for a good pizza. read more

Absolutely terrible. We are BEYOND disappointed. Ordered 2 calzones and both were very dry, my peppers were raw, maybe a tablespoon of pizza sauce in each and they came with a side of spaghetti meat sauce. What even is that? The french fries were so disgusting my 2yo bit into one, spit it out and started crying and gagging. I ran to grab her a drink and tried a fry. I wish I could describe it. My husband wanted to head to the police station to have them tested. Kind of like they were burned and then tossed in paint thinner. Seriously tastes like poison. They snapped like dry wood and you could still see the freezer burnt crystals on the inside. Completely nauseating. They also completely left out the jalapeño poppers we ordered and paid for, but given how terrible everything else was, we probably didn't want them anyway. This place needs to get shut down. It took 45 minutes just to get less than poor quality food and not even all of it. STAY FAR AWAY. Such a waste of money. read more

Mel's pizza is quite possibly my favorite of all the pizza joints in the Elgin area. I'm a thin toasted crust kinda fella and Mel's hits this mark every time. The Mexican pizza has some legit heat from the Jalapeños on top. My kids aren't fans of the hot stuff so the deluxe pizza is our go-to choice. If you like hot dogs and deep fried food; You can order a real winner with the "Mel's Special." A deep fried cheesy hot dog special that is phenomenal. As an eat-in joint it has its own charm. Perfect for a relaxed family meal. The staff is very friendly and they don't seem to have much turnover. Always a good sign in my book. But hey if you're still reading this post you're wasting precious pizza cooking time! Stop reading my rambling review and order yourself a tasty pizza. After we moved to Elgin we had trouble finding a pizza place that we liked, until we found Mel's. The pizza is always delicious. I'm not a big thin crust fan but even their thin crust pizza is amazing. I reccomend them to everyone that I know who lives in the area. So. Freaking. Good. read more

After a hard week of raging on work, fitness, and healthy eating, my friend and I decided to go here for some pizza and a few beers. The guy that served us (who also turned out to be the owner) was friendly, efficient, and hilarious. When we ordered an anchovy pizza he thought we were joking, but upon confirmation, he put the most anchovies on a pizza I've ever seen. It was delicious and cooked to perfection. And for those of you that haven't realized the glory of the 'chovy, we got the other half with more standard ingredients and it was also of the highest caliber. Ordered a pizza for carry out last night. Smelled great in the car. Got home, only to realize that the pizza was burnt around the entire edges of the pizza. For $19, I could have gotten 3 pizzas at papa johns or little ceasars and would have enjoyed them more. Not a good first experience for Mel's. Incredibly poor customer service. Placed an order for pick-up and got home to find out that they had not given me what I ordered. When I called to complain, I was told that I was charged for what I had. Sorry. When I asked to speak with a manager, Andy told me that he made what was on his ticket. When I asked if that was the best he could do for me, I was told if I wanted to bring back what I had and wait an extra 30 - 45 minutes for what I had originally wanted I was more than welcome to. No impetus whatsoever to try to maintain me as a customer and frozen California Pizza Kitchen is just as good. read more

We really like Mel's. We even have it timed to order from 53/290 exchange for pick up. Their crust is cracker/bubbly and the toppings are fresh and not canned unlike the local competitor. Price for a large cheese, sausage and mushroom is just under $22, which is fair in Elgin. Maciano's is more $ and their crust gets soggy -- and it's even closer to home. I hope they stay open. My only criticism: it needs an overhaul in the cleaning department. I never look up or down -- just straight ahead. It's the old Jake's (which I miss dearly!!) and Jake's decor stuck. You don't have to get rid of the wooden booths, just fresh paint and a good scrubbin'. :) But, we're there 2x a month as our Chinese exchange student LOVES it. We do, too. See you soon! read more

First things first: the pizza was great! We ordered a deluxe (I think that's what it's called) and it's a real winner, lots of onions (just the way I like it), not overbearing with the sausage (another plus for me) and the sauce wasn't overloaded with spices making for a tasty, but not acid reflux inducing dinner. The kids had a half pepperoni/cheese pizza and they seemed to enjoy it as well, but the pepperoni was too much for me (see acid reflux comment above). The thin crust was nice and crispy as well, top marks on the food. The decor is a throw back to all the old pizza joints from the 70s-80s, and all the wooden furniture/trim gave the place an off smell. I'm not real picky about ambiance and I can be very forgiving of a place if the food is good. One negative point is that the place was pretty hot and there was no AC, either it was on the frits or they don't have one and we just happened to try it on a hot day so no bueno. The biggest complaint, though, was that the server, although friendly and attentive, he was a contributing factor to the odor in the place. Overall the pizza is great and I would gladly eat Mel's pizza again over any franchise pizza, but next time it may have to be take out. read more

Saw Mel's on tv some time ago and finally gave it a shot. The pickup time was very fast, and the location is pretty easy to find. The driveway is a bit steep though. We had a sausage pizza and a lasagna. Both were great. I especially liked the lasagna. It tasted homemade and was a very hearty dish. I can't wait to try more off of the menu!! read more

I just had Mel's Pizza for the first time. It is my new favorite pizza! Absolutely delicious! The only downside is that I ate too much.

Amazing pizza, the Italian beef is the best I have ever tasted. It was all a decent price, I went on a Monday so I got 20 percent off from dine in. Staff is very friendly. Owner seems to know how to run the place. The tables were a bit sticky but im told it's from the humidity. I highly recommend this place, its not like any other pizza place. I waited on reviewing Mels until I had three orders in to be able to properly review the business. The first delivery order took a little over an hour and the pizza was luke warm. I did however enjoy the pizza as the flavor was awesome!!! The next two deliveries were timely and the pizza was fantastic. I hope I did not jinx myself caus I am about to place an order after typing this review. One thing though. I would really like to see a menu delivered along with my pizza, and would like to see some type of offers for repeat customers like 50% off pizza after ordering 10. read more

Amazing food!!! We always get delivery and from the people who take our order to the delivery driver, everyone is so wonderful and fun. I am a huge French fry fan and I find myself CRAVING theirs! Pizza is fantastic and they do NOT skimp on toppings. We order from here 2-3 a month and it is now our go-to pizza place. Btw- their cheesy beefs are incredible as well! I think their pizza is pretty great and at lunch time you can get a 2-topping personal pizza for under $5 that hits the spot just right. My only gripe is they usually take twice as long as they tell you to have the pizza ready, and when I'm on lunch break I really don't have an extra 20 minutes to be standing at their counter waiting for my food. read more

Might of been the worst experience I've had at a restaurant. Walked in, it smelled of burnt food. We walked and sat our selfs. Table and seats were extremely sticky. The waitress who was very nice, said it was because of the humid weather. Wrong it's because the tables were covered in dirt and what ever else. The person I was with used the restroom and as she was walking out heard some horrible language from the kitchen so loud that she thought it was someone saying it to her. Finally when we get the food, had only ranch sauce and no real other options... Over all very disappointed. No business should be ran by a bunch of very young kids who don't seem to know much about how a business is run. read more

Mel's pizza is the best pizza in Illinois since Giordano's went bankrupt. (I don't want a bank making my pizza, thank you.) Get this, Mel's uses *real* cheese! I don't care if Papa John's or whoever puts that "real" cheese label on the box; it's just a disgusting, soy disaster that tastes and has the consistency of my dog's toy kong. Yuck! So treasure Mel's, because I doubt this little pearl will stay a secret for much longer. Their pizza is the real deal: real cheese, sweet sauce, perfect ratio of crust to cheese to sauce to toppings, and their service is impeccable. Truly I cannot remember nicer folks or higher quality of food, which is a comfort since so many Elgin restaurants seem to just be phoning it in when it comes to quality food and service. Was sad to see they skimped on the cheese, my first time there and was hoping for better. Long hair guy was making the pizzas,.. I get it and you can see the red tomato sauce shining through . Same price as Danny's with way less cheese. Got the mot sticks were good! And marinara was good ! read more
