Let me start by saying, my lovely husband Ken is Italian-American and we live in New England, RI to be exact so we are very spoiled with some fantastic Italian food and other outstanding cuisine in our small state . Ken, like most Italians from the East Coast is super picky with Italian food. We've eaten a lot of fish this week being in Key West and he saw this place, he wanted to go. I usually protest on these requests because unless you're in RI, Connecticut, New York or New Jersey it's not the same. He always says it's make-a-believe Italian and the gravy is too sweet. And when we do end up going to an Italian restaurant during our travels I have to strap myself in to hear him bitch and moan about it for hours! You see my frustration! The meatballs were a 10 - absolutely outstanding and the gravy was definitely homemade with lots of chunky tomatoes and oregano and definitely not too sweet. I've learned that a good gravy or sauce is the true test of a really good Italian restaurant. How they do their gravy says it all.. I've learned this after 10 years of marriage to an Italian. I'm Irish not Italian at all so I'm allowed to make chicken cutlets (as I do a really good job with those) but God forbid I try making an authentic Italian gravy! I forgot to add our meal also came with garlic knots which I thought were outstanding, but Ken said they were very garlicky and they were giving him agita , but this is not a reflection on the restaurant. He's 65 and he's always got the agita over this or that and not just food. He teaches science at the high school Level and he loves wearing his favorite shirt that says "You Guys Give Me Agita." Overall big thumbs up to this place. The wait staff is outstanding--so friendly. The food is reasonably- priced and it is really good Italian food. Definitely get the meatballs. We did go the night before and we had the pizza. It was great- perfect thin crust very classic New York style pizza, generous toppings. We both thought it could've used a little bit more gravy (even I said that), but then again I'm married to a man who, if the gravy is good, he would have it intravenously pumped through his veins. We're going on our first trip to Italy later this summer and we're both very excited to try authentic Italian food and see how it compares to food in the US.
