Delivery order took twice as long as stated on phone. Pizza arrived cold, not hot or even warm, just cold. No acknowledgement of the delay in getting our food or it being delivered cold. Overall a terrible experience which won't be repeated. read more

We just ordered delivery and the potato salad I ordered was frozen. So I couldn't even eat that. And our HOT roast beef sandwiches were ice cold. Not sure if they were sitting out in the car and were forgotten since it took over an hour to be delivered. We will not be ordering from here again. I live in Winthrop, and my husband and I order from Nick's often. We especially love the chicken salad club, which is HUGE and comes with fries. The size is so generous, we can split one and it is just enough. The staff is very efficient and friendly, as is the delivery driver - always on time, by the way. I think that we've only had a mistake made on 1 order in the 5 years we've been eating at Nick's, and that was minor (they put lettuce on hubby's sandwich - heaven forbid he eat greens). They recently expanded their restaurant and moved down the street from the old location. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new drive-thru. You call ahead, and the order is ready when you show up. Excellent if you have young kids, since it's too much of a hassle to take them in & out of the car seat. Overall, highly recommended. read more

I'm a local and have been to Nick's more times than I can recall. It used to be a small place squished into a Winthrop corner (there's now a gourmet cake shop there, that's very good - that corner is blessed by the good food fairies.) But Nick's was so popular that expansion was a pressing need. They took over a closed down McDonald's building and by jove, that was an improvement hard to top! Goodbye fake burgers, hellooo big juicy real burgers. Their 99c cheeseburger sliders (with your choice of toppings) are an excellent deal, btw. Regular favorites of the locals have gotta be the chicken kabob salad and the roast beef sandwich. When friends visit, I suggest those as the first choice when the poor person is understandably bewildered by the plethora of dishes. Their pizzas are okay - nothing special. If you're in the mood for a good pizza in Winthrop, you're better off going to the Pizza Center or Paesan's. However, Nick's does have a great deal on pizzas each Monday. Between 4-9pm, a large cheese pizza will cost the same as the time you called. Call at 4:30pm, get a cheese pizza for $4.30 + tax. If you want toppings, just add the usual price of the toppings onto the sale price of the pizza - so if you call at 4:30 and want a pepperoni pizza, it'll be $4.30 plus $1 for the toppings for a total of $5.30 + tax. The place is often busy and noisy. It's popular with the locals, and especially the middle-school and high schoolers after school and into the night. The kitchen is steaming and busy and the staff frantically yell at each other, which is a bit off-putting. When the owner's around, he'll loudly berate and harangue the staff, which I'd usually find off-putting, but somehow here provides an authentic Mediterranean touch. I grew up in a half-Italian family and visit the old country every so often, so I may be hardened to it coming from the right ancestral stock. With a bustling noisy place, the tv screens put the noise and distraction level into overkill. You're probably familiar with the phenomenon of a television screen drawing eyes. Well, you set up a restaurant with family friendly booths, and plenty of space for group dining and then you put television screens around? That distracts from the proper aesthetic and intention of communal dining. It's tacky. I wish Nick's would take them down, but after investing in them that's an unlikely scenario. If it's cold and/or you're lazy, you can order online, and there's also a drive-through pick-up window. Nick's is a great place to take a group, or finicky person, due to the plethora of meal choices. There should be something for everyone. The portions are generous. There's plenty of easy free parking. There's an outdoor dining patio. Well worth a try if you're in the area. read more

A Winthrop mainstay. It also has to be one of the biggest employers in Winthrop as well, on a busy night I counted 18 folks working and those are just the ones I could see. Anyway, we've had lots of orders from Nick's, everything from pizza to subs and plates. They aren't stingy with the portions, the ingredients are good, and the service is quick. Thumbs up! read more

Update: Don't try to order your pizza early on Mondays pizza special. I ordered at 4:30, and didn't get it until about 6:20. I know they're busy, but they can at least make sure the pizza they make is cut well enough into slices and not going to stick to the box without its own pizza thing. And most people go nuts after one hour wait, i still tipped at nearly 2. Do better guys. Although this pizza is so good your coworkers will eat it whether or not its your future lunch or not. Excellent food here. I order it all the time now that I work in close proximity and there aren't too many places that will deliver where I work. The Steak Tips on the Salad are huge and plentiful! Although the salad sizes arent that big, the toppings are. The Chicken on the Salad is just the same. The calzones here are humongous and can feed more people that their menu suggests. I recommend any calzone, because they do it right. The prices may be a little higher, but you're getting a good portion of food. At least I think so. Only downside is that the delivery guys don't navigate that well and sometimes you don't get your food in the time they tell you. Something they may want to set a goal to. read more

As a "normal person" writing this, I have been so pleased with this place that I have recommended 20 people and only 2 people said they didn't care for it or would prefer "Royals Roast Beef" in Eastie. Anywho, a huge list of food...dirt cheap prices, large large portions and above all, Monday pizza special of call and pay the price of your pizza after 4pm!!!! I order from Nicks ALOT. Mostly for pick up at their very convenient drive thru for orders called in. My kids get upset if they know I went to Nicks without them or didnt' bring them back something. My college daughter wishes they would deliver to Framingham. I LOVE the Clam Chowda! and The Fried Clams are better than a local EB Roastbeef place ( no names mentioned) . Didn't know about this place til my boyfriend took me here, wish I had known long before that! Such a good place to eat. Their fries raviolis are to die for! This place is appalling and the manager should be fired. First, let me say I have used grub hub for awhile and my past experiences have been great. Until I had the misfortune to deal with this restaurant and its manager. I ordered nearly $80 in food at 7:59 pm. The restaurant called me to clarify the side salads. Then told me that I was all set. Delivery was supposed to be between 8:45 and 8:55pm. At 9:45 I called and the same girl placed me on hold for a good 10 minutes. Then a man returned to the phone. He did not identify himself but when I complained, he told me that they "forgot" to put my order in to the kitchen, then other things happened preventing the driver from getting there sooner, but he should be there soon. No apology, no offer for a reduction. Nothing. Soon? Was he kidding. I informed him that if the food did not arrive in 15 min I wanted a full refund. He said absolutely but the good would be there. It arrived in 5 minutes from our disconnect. Stone cold! I had ordered fish and chowder and a turkey dinner and it was awful. The salad had been mixed with the hot food (when it was hot) and was now wilted. The onion rings were one cold, congealed mess. The risotto was stuck together in a block and looked like someone's left overs. The chowder and turkey had a "film" over them. I called back, completely irate, asked for the manager and got the same man who again refused to identify himself. He knew exactly who I was and was obviously expecting this call. When I said the food was cold he said it was Friday night. Really!? Then again without apology he says he's trying to work with me. No he was doing everything to tick me off. I told him that I wanted my money back. At this point, he should have said of course and credited back the card, but no. He began to argue calling me a child because I wouldn't accept waiting another hour for more cold food or taking a coupon. Why would I want a coupon for more poor service and insulting attitude. The bottom line is this manager didn't want to issue a refund. He told me to call grub hub because he "couldn't deal with me." So that is exactly what I did. I very nice young lady named Ashley listened to my complaint. And after calling the manager, issued me a refund. Although she explained that the restaurant didn't want to refund the salads because they were cold. Seriously? This manager needs to be fired. If I owned the place, he would be. He is a poor reflection on the restaurant business and has no place in customer service. I work with restaurants. You do not argue with customers. Simply calling to apologize for the delay in the first place may have been all that was needed. He knew they forgot our order, yet he did nothing. Then to argue with an angry customer is unprofessional. Finally to quibble about a salad which probably has a cost point of $1.50 is utterly ridiculous. Would the food have been good, if it has been delivered on time and with the hot food hot and the cold food cold. Who knows. It ended up in the garbage. Do yourself a favor skip the aggravation and order from Cafe Podima instead. Food arrived in the condition expected and the manager is professional. read more

But, the quality depends upon who happens to be working on any given day. The manager couldn't care less what customers think or receive so, complaining is futile. Now this wouldn't be so bad if this calzone wasn't bought with a credit from the last mistake they made from take over an hour to deliver my food and arriving with it both wrong me cold. I called to let them know about the calzone being wrong, after an argument on the phone about what I ordered originally (I would never order chicken bomb, I hate both peppers and mushrooms) they agreed to send a new one out RIGHT AWAY. The prices on the menu have gone up and the quality has not gotten any better. The steak and cheese sub is less then mediocre and about $10 for a large.Everything they do is done the shortcut way without any care for the welfare of the customers. If Gordon Ramsey went to this place he would have a heart attack. The Board of Health continues to shut the place down. The owner has the audacity to take the employees tips (being right next the police station) which might explain why the employees are never happy. Nicks is said to be the biggest employer in Winthrop but I think theyre the biggest Slave Driver outside of Chinatown. As far as the food the quality is 3 out of 5. The menu is way too big,it needs to be cut in half. The Monday pizza special is a GREAT price but the pizza is a 3 out of 5. Wednesday pasta special is 4 out of 5. Other then those two days I wouldnt go there because you are not getting what you are paying for. Used to be a HUGE fan of Nick's in winthrop back in the day when it was that little corner sub shop/take out place that could. Since those days Nicks has expanded and took over the Old Mcdonalds in adjacent to where they previously were. They expanded their menu which is way too large in my opinion. Since they've moved Nicks quality has also suffered. They always seem to forget things that you order and pay for, their food has turned meh, If you try to call and place an order it becomes frustrating because while youre trying to order theres always yelling going on in the backround! What kind of place is this? Also everytime i order a turkey sub for some reason or another it always tastes as if the turkey has gone bad! Everything at nick's is really tasty. If you have a small crowd i reccomend the chicken and spinach calzone with feta. Large will easily feed 5-6 people. The calzones, no joke, weigh like 10 lbs.
