Nick-San was a real disappointment. It certainly isn't eh best restaurant in Cabo as some have said, and it isn't even the best sushi.. Nothing fancy about the decor, although he inside makes an attempt at Japanese design. No table clothe, paper napkins, disposable chopsticks - isn short, nothing that says high end or elegant. The food is definitely underwhelming and very expensive for what you get. No imagination, just basic sushi, No presentation, just fish on a plate. We actually have better sushi in terms of both quality and presentation at our resort. The tuna roll was good, but basic, California roll was about like what you see at Walmart. The baked scallops were only acceptable-m really only scallops and mushrooms in a light sauce, Definitely lacking the advertised au gratin. The Dragon was better than the rest of the food, but nothing remarkable. The tostado appetizer was flavorful and a bit more creative, but priced very high for one 3"square. I could go on, but you get the picture. The waiter seemed in a rush to get us in and out. No real problem there, because there was no reason to linger over mediocre overpriced sushi and small portions. The electronic menu wouldn't;t load, so we had to get a tablet from the waiter. It wasn't particularly easy to peruse the electronic menus as it was on a couple of pages. Don't go to Nick-San for the ambiance or the food.It isn't bad, but it is very overpriced and certainly doesn't live up to some of the earlier ratings. The atmosphere is great and watching them make the sushi is outstanding and a work of art. There wasn't one thing we didn't like that we ordered. If you enjoy sushi, this place is EQUAL to Nobu which is a mitchlin star restaraunt. The only problem, you've got to go to cobo to eat here. Its right next to the Tesoro close to the wharf. I ordered the first time we went, then just let the waiter bring us what he wanted the second time we went. The food is friggin excellent! The service is friggin excellent and its clean. There are thousands of Japanese restaurants serving mediocre to reasonably good sushi but generally without much creative skill when it comes to presentation and unique tastes. Nick-San isn't one of them. The restaurant is in the old downtown close to the marina and is modern in design. The greeting, seating process and service were all well done although our group of seven felt a little rushed with the numerous dishes we ordered. Having said that, the food was delicious. I mean really delicious with noticeably high quality fish with texture not found in lesser establishments. More than half the dishes served were totally new to me as an experienced consumer of sushi around the world and I was impressed. As I mentioned in another review of Nick-San, it isn't Nobu but it is close and is actually quite reasonable in price for a high end Cabo restaurant. I recommend and will visit again. read more

I'm sad to say our visit was disappointing! After reading all the reviews we were so excited! We love sushi and were looking forward to a fabulous romantic meal! The food was just okay, the sashimi was tough and not tender. Our meals came out about 15 minutes apart which was also a bummer. It was very bright and loud in the restaurant, not very ambient. We told them we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and they pulled two tables together and sat a large group of very drunk teenagers right next to us. Won't be back. read more

My husband wanted sushi while we were on vacation in Cabo. He checked the reviews and we went!!!!! 7pm on Thursday ,,, slow, couple Americanos tourists. Lots of staff . I understand that paying attention to a customer that's a sign of great customer service,,,,? but it was slightly too much to my taste. Maybe because they were slow. No sake by glass, only by the bottle No soups on the menu, even no miso soup No combos of different kinds of sashimi, No sake sampling, as they sell sake only by bottles. Food was ok. What a great place for sushi in Cabo. Walked by it as we were exploring the town, and after 3 days of (great) Mexican food, we wanted Tu change it up. The place was packed by 8pm, so it's worth having a reservation in advance, just in case. We had only rolls, mostly ones not on the menu. As we sat at the sushi bar, we asked the chef for recommendations and ordered based on our taste. In Cabo we knew we had to try fresh seafood and sushi and Nick-San was rated #1. This rating serves it well as it was some of the tastiest fish we've ever had. I normally order sushi rolls but I knew they were known for their sashimi dishes here so I had to try some of them as well. My favorite was the black and white tuna as it was so flavorful and fresh. The serranito one was a bit spicy but I still enjoyed that one a lot as well. The best sushi roll was the shrimp tempura as it was so much more unique than I expected. It was similar to a California roll but almost fried in tempura so the entire roll was crunchy. It was really unique and delicious. I would recommend Nick-San to anyone who wants to try fresh fish from Cabo and hopefully I will make it back one day! read more

I know we're not in Japan, I understand the expectations were high. Frankly, no intiendo - the place is quite mediocre. Yes some of the fish is fresh but it's not really sushi. One can't just call this sushi. The rice was warm and not really proper. The sashimi was good but slices were not really cut even. Nigiri of salmon, tuna and ikura were good but nothing too special.
