What a wonderful evening at Nico! From the moment we were greeted until driving away, the food, atmosphere, and service could not have been better! We were happy to dine during Charleston Restaurant week and found a few great selections on the menu. I chose a couple of small plates, while my companion had trout with almonds off the restaurant week menu. Each course was more amazing than the last. Our server made sure to bring out the courses so we both had food at the same time - an extra touch that displays their excellent customer service. The trout was probably the best I've ever eaten, and I grew up in trout country. Even though trout isn't a local catch, it was incredibly fresh and flavorful and the preparation brought out the tender flavors without overwhelming the fish. The crab-onion soup was delicious with a generous amount of crab. And don't get me started on the au-gratin potatoes! I could easily have eaten them by myself (in a dimly lit room with romantic music.) Our server, Brittany, was attentive without hovering and was very helpful in selecting the perfect wine. She is an asset to Nico, and I'm certain a result of taking the time to properly train staff. A side note: there is a disgruntled person trolling this fine establishment and it's sad to know one upset petty person can try to destroy their online reputation. As a business owner myself, I know sometimes management must take a risk by curbing inappropriate behavior by one guest to insure a good experience for other patrons. I was excited to come to Nico while I was visiting Mount Pleasant. I love watching Southern Charm and recognized the name as soon as my local friend mentioned it. We looked at the menu and everything sounded great! We got there, and the service was great! Our server was friendly and so was everyone else. The patio and the inside have a very nice ambiance. We started with cocktails and appetizers. I got a dirty martini that I was very happy with. The rest of the table loved their drinks too. We started with raw oysters and some steamed muscles. Both were really good! Unfortunately, we were all underwhelmed with the entrees. I had the chicken cordon bleu. It was not what I pictured as it wasn't breaded and it was served with a sauce that looked and tasted like brown gravy. The gnocchi it was served over was also not amazing. My friend got the steak frites and the steak was bland and over cooked. My other friend got the lobster roll said it was also bland. My boyfriend got the scallops and his dish was actually very good! Having been to Bistronomy, I was expecting something on a similar level (Bistronomy is exceptional). This was easily one of the most disappointing dinners I've had in the Charleston area, especially for the price. We got a salad, escargot, Bouillabaisse and the Parisian Gnocchi. The salad was ok, but the bread with goat cheese that came with it was unbelievably stale. I figured that was a one off, we got the escargot next and that was ok too, nothing special. Once again though, the bread it came with was the most stale bread I've ever had in a restaurant. I got the bouillabaisse and my wife got the gnocchi, more stale bread with mine, insanely salty (inedible) broth, and about $10 worth of seafood (all cut up to make it look like more than it actually was?). All of it was full of sand. My wife initially said hers wasn't that bad, but after a few bites she started to struggle with the sand and the shrimp tasted old/bad. We made the mistake of going to Maison the night before coming here, which probably made it even worse. We thought it would be fun to compare the two, but Nico is so far below Maison it's not even close to being a contest (food, service, ambiance, portions, literally everything). The bills came out to roughly the same amount, but I felt like I got robbed here. With all the amazing French restaurants in Charleston I'm shocked this is still open, I won't ever come here again. We stopped in this weekend for a late reservation on Saturday and boy, what an experience I've been missing!! First time and far from the last. My friend is close with the oyster chef and meeting her was a blast! Next was the most delicious selection of a dozen of the freshest oysters ranging from local to up north, served with Serrano droplets and lemon droplets to dispense as we saw fit. YES. So you have "Southern Charm" fans here and we wanted to check out this spot because one of the girls on the show, this is her family restaurant. We walked up and we were debating to sit outside or not. The host was trying to get our attention and was wondering what we were doing. I get it, Covid, he absolutely refused to sit us together due to social distancing (which doesn't make sense if we are all together). he told us that we could have a couple seats on one side, a couple on another and then a couple inside. Went for a birthday brunch. Overall good food and service was exceptional! My husband and I were each offered a complimentary glass of champagne for the birthday. We've dined here several times and love this place as well as the staff. We recently went to Bistronomy by Nico and also loved it! I'm super disappointed that someone would actually rate this place anything lower than 5 stars because they decided to have their staff wear masks for their safety. If you don't like it, go somewhere else but don't bash a restaurant that you even stated the food is good just because you don't like someone else wearing a mask. The food was good. Our waitstaff was great and very friendly. My major issue comes with their shady business practices and the fact they're towing cars that don't check in on their parking app correctly. After we paid 170.00 for dinner we were left to pay 250.00 to get my car from the tow yard in North Charleston! I will say Nick, the manager was very helpful and seemed remorseful. Especially after I told him I had a newborn at home and said newborns carseatbase was in the car that they had towed! Nick paid for my Uber to the tow yard. He was also able to get me a 20.00 discount on the tow. This, however, goes to show that they're receiving kickbacks from the tow company. We reserved via Resy for an indoor table. The Hostess seated us outside at a table with a strong cross breeze and we asked for a warmer location. The Asst Mgr, Sean, checked our reservation and apologized for the error, then seated us at a better, warmer table. Sean also checked on us mid-meal; he was a very personable gentleman and had Patrick, the waiter, give us a glass of champagne to apologize for the confusion on our table reservation. We started with a mixed dozen of raw oysters (Bekah's Bay, Single Ladies and Lowcountry Cup); we liked the Singie Ladies best. We then shared the escargot, which were EXCELLENT, hot, perfectly seasoned, and went well with the sliced baguette provided. My husband had the steak (perfect medium rare and tender cut) and frites (thin and crispy). Our boat captain had the seafood rigatoni (with shrimp, scallops, mushrooms, and cheese). I chose the cheese plate (with a medium density goat cheese, a lovely cheddar, a nice bleu and two others), served with tiny pickled veggies and lovely crisps. We opted to share the creme brûlée, as we'd noticed another table get theirs brûlée'd at the table. Nice touch and beautiful creamy consistency. Patrick provided excellent service, even anticipating things we needed. Overall, fresh and fabulously-prepared food, great prices, even a bust of Ludwig in the rest room. In summary, if you want a fraternity bar scene, huge slabs of beef, mediocre service, and a bill that will stun you, go to a chophouse downtown. Also, I didn't know until they explained it, they don't completely separate oyster from shell because that way it stays alive and you know it's fresh. We were pleasantly surprised how good our meals were especially the seafood tower. That was one of the most creative seafood displays I have seen. The mussels were delicious and the sauce they were in was like an onion soup with crusty bread to dip. Lobster roll was very good as were the other fish dishes. Desserts are huge and meant to share. My wife & I came to this restaurant solely because of the TV show Southern Charm. While walking into the restaurant, she saw three members of the cast and it made her night. But as for the restaurant, the review is as follows; PARKING- Small parking lot around the restaurant. Better off parking in the large parking garage a short distance away. The waiter described some of them that were a bit off but it wasn't a big deal as we love all kinds of oysters. For dinner we had the Bouillabaisse de Marseille (fish, shrimp, mussels, clams bay scallops, aioli crouton) & Parisian Gnocchi (bay scallops, shrimp mushrooms, peas). I will say the Bouillabaisse de Marseille was extremely tiny. The portion for the price to me was high. To me it was an appetizer size and left me wanting more after eating. My wife had the Gnocchi which she loved and that was a good portion. For dessert we ordered a toasted marshmallow with vanilla ice cream thing. I forget exactly what they named it but it was simply to die for. The dessert is what made the restaurant go from 3 stars to 4. PRICES - The prices were a bit high for what it was. OVERALL -  I probably wouldn't rush to return to this restaurant. Would I go back? Yes but it wouldn't be on the list of highly recommended.
