Came here visiting Charleston from CA and it did not disappoint. We came here right after the storm and probably were 1/3 groups that was at the restaurant which could play into why the service was so amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable about the different oysters and never pushed/rushed us. The baked Alaska at the end was the best part! Even Nico himself came by to check on how everything was going. I think I also was fangirling at the fact that Naomie from Bravo Southern Charm could walk in at any moment. When we walked in, the spell of the food and ambience reminded Southern France. When the fi food arrived, the disappointment followed. The restaurant is serving French classics but has no idea what they means to be like ... roasted cheese oysters (please try those in High Cotton instead), shrimp cocktail (Pearls Bar or even Fleet Landing). My main was bouillabaisse and had nothing in common with the French classic. I just wish they could buy an air ticket to their chef and send him abroad for some practice. Really unengaged, dry waitress with no eye contact or any meaningful interaction... all in all... thank you for your efforts but we are not coming back. I very much enjoy dining here! Quaint, small, amazing seafood/French restaurant by Shem Creek. There are no water front views, however, the food is way better then all the surrounding other restaurants. Authentic and fresh. And the service was perfect. Our waitress was great and gave suggestions. The manager as well as the chef came to our table to make sure we were happy and enjoyed our dinner. I was impressed by this. The inside is modern and has a open atmosphere. You are able to see all the fresh, seafood and oysters. The menu has a lot of offerings for a variety of different raw and cooked seafood. As well as other meat entrees. There is a very lovely outdoor dining and bar area and covered patio. We enjoyed two delicious appetizers-mussels with a brown butter and shallot sauce with plenty of crusty toasted bread, and baked oysters on the half shell with a light and delicious Camembert cheese sauce on top. Both were wonderful and nice portion sized. Plenty to share for the table. I ordered the burgundy sea scallops which were beautifully presented in a light sauce with pickled red onions, asparagus and mushrooms. Divine! My friend ordered the wreck fish special with was light, crispy, perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is casual. There is ample parking and a valet option. There menu is varied so if seafood is not what you are looking for there are other great choices. It's always crowded here and for good reason. Everything about Nico is spot on. Everything is so well thought out, from the decor to the food presentation. Our sever was incredible, friendly and knowledgeable of the offerings. We shared oysters, pomme frites and calamari for lunch and finished with the chocolate cake. Everything was incredible!! Service from everyone was just amazing. Our server, Nick, went over and above. He's very knowledgeable about the restaurant and the menu. His suggestions were spot on. Our appetizers and dinner was absolutely delicious. The presentation of each plate was perfect. The high quality food used came through on each and every bite. Nick even gave detailed descriptions of the 3 desserts. We were visiting Charleston and knew one night we wanted oysters. We decided on Nico after seeing they offer half oysters. Being a Virginia girl, I love oysters, so this option sounded amazing! And it certainly lived up to that notion. We started with a dozen of the house oysters, which that night were the Bekah's, then a half of the Lowcountry Cup and half of the Glidden Point. The descriptions were pretty spot on for the oysters. The Bekah's were nice in size and the salinity was there and they were a tad creamy. The Glidden Point were described as comparable to the Bekah's but they were not as salty. The Lowcountry Cup were my favorites. The salinity was high which I prefer. Those were on the smaller end compared to the other two. We did end up getting another half dozen of those for a pre-dessert. We shared the octopus and the Parisian gnocchi which were both so delicious! The Parisian gnocchi was a punch of flavor that you don't often see stateside. We ended our night with the baked Alaska, because we hardly see it on a menu. And we were so happy we did! It was so delightful! We ate a few places while down here and Nico was by far our favorite! As COVID-19 goes, they were one of the best too. We had a booked a spot in the enclosed tented patio, there were heaters. They also were asking people to wash their hands before entering the restaurant, which was nice. Highly recommend! read more

Wow! What a great experience. Bartender Chris was friendly and knowledgeable. We started off with cocktails. Enjoyed puffed something and roasted oysters. My niece enjoyed the octopus while I somewhat enjoyed the lobster roll. Lobster roll was served on a toasted bun. Claw meat. Dipping on the side. Would not recommend for the price of $29. I'm giving 1 star because I've tried to go there 2 years in row and the hostess has been completely rude and dismissive. We showed up last night parking lot had multiple spaces available. The outdoor bar by the hostess had zero patrons and we were told they were completely booked for the night. Open tables, completely rude staff and apparently don't need the business based on the reception we've received. Walked over to a packed Tavern and Table l, got a table in 20 minutes, and had a great meal on the water. I promise you this, they won't see me next year for my annual Charleston trip. read more

Came for the oyster "happy hour" and was not disappointed. In addition to the blackberry oysters that were on special, we also had the onion crab soup, sea board and the tuna special. Everything was delicious with delicate flavors. Nothing was over seasoned. We also had the baked Alaska for dessert, which was delicious. The server was great and took time to tell us a little about the chef and how he develops the menu items. Portions were slightly smaller than what you might be used to, but they made up for it in quality. We left satisfied but not overstuffed. read more

We were recently visiting Charleston from out of state and decided to go to NICO for some fresh seafood. We went on a week day for dinner and sat on the patio. Even though it was chilly, they had space heaters which made our experience very enjoyable and relaxing. The ambiance is great here! We enjoyed the Le Petit. My husband and I shared this and also added a few extra Mookie Blue oysters. The food was delicious and the size of the shrimp and oysters was awesome! We had some of their rosè (vin sentier) and I loved it- very tasty and not too sweet. I have to say the best part of our trip was desert- the baked Alaska is to die for!! We stopped in here last minute on Christmas Eve none the less and Nico himself quickly helped us get a table and save our holiday. All of the food was incredible and you can tell a lot of thought goes into what they put in their plates. The staff was attentive and helpful from start to finish. I recommend the mussels and the cheese plate. If you are looking for oysters on the half shell in Charleston look no further! Fresh as can be with excellent selections depending on your palate. Went to dinner with my wife on V-Day. Food was tasty and the oysters very fresh. Happy hour looks to have several good deals. The calamari couldn't get its breading to stay on but the dips were good and it was decent sized chunks as opposed to the small burnt ends most places serve. So far so good. Our main plates came out and were very tasty. The price points were approximately what is expected at a mid-high end place in the area. The service, however, was extremely lacking and would preclude me from coming back again. 1) Our waitress asked how our oysters were despite them being brought 5 seconds before she stopped by and were completely untouched. 2) They took my wife's main dish plate away with 1/3 of her fish still uneaten - she awkwardly asked me, as the waiter had her hand on the dish, whether I wanted to finish hers but it was awkward and too late 3) We were asked if we wanted more drinks 5x during the meal - I get thats where the profit is made but after getting 2 drinks to start and saying "No" 4 times, the point should have been accepted 4) We got the torched ice cream dessert that was followed 10 seconds later by another offer of drinks as well as the bill 5) The waitress picked up the cassette with the bill after us having taken 4 bites of the dessert and awkwardly commented "oh not ready" and walked away 6) There was an overwhelming sense of being rushed throughout the meal - very unpleasant and interfered with my enjoyment of the meal. We arrive at 6pm for our reservation and left at 7:15pm. Total bill ~$195 for two. The venue has a lot of potential because the food is great and different from many other Charleston offerings. A few service kinks need to be worked out first though. I wish Nico the best. read more

It's hard for me because I've never been the biggest fan of oysters. I LIKE THEM but don't love them. We sat at the bar, and the nice bartender flaunted not only his knowledge of oysters, but also how best to enjoy them. Garlic, butter, hot sauce, cocktail sauce, McDonald French Fries, White wine, red wine, bourbon, ketchup, fruit roll up, Dunkin Donut Croissandwich,....okay I'm kidding but I swear we filled each oyster up with so much garnish I could barely recognize what I was eating. But here's the thing, they were tasty and we had the most awesome time. I'll admit here that we ended up called an Uber because we topped our limit during all the fun. Great vibe, fun staff, and I'll go out on a limb and say the oysters were pretty yummy. We stopped here on a Wednesday around 5:30pm. They have all day Happy Hour! You can get Veuve at the happy hour prices all day - yay! We shared an assortment of oysters, chef's choice. They also had a woodfire softshell crab special that evening ... it was delicious! We also had the Tilefish entrée - this was outstanding, although we had to order additional sides, as the serving was small. For sides we shared the frites and woodfire cabbage - we all agreed the cabbage was unique and delicious. They menu has a lot of French inspiration. Great French wines on the list to note. The service was outstanding and we sat up at the bar. The place was not busy at all! The chef came out to ask us twice how our meal was. The price point is a little high - our bill was nearly 300 dollars and we each had two glasses of wine, a dozen oysters, 3 entrees and the additional sides - YIKES. Especially with the happy hour specials? During our trip we visited a lot of local joint - the price points were much lower and food was comparable in quality/freshness read more

My coworker and I randomly stumbled upon this brunch time gem on our way from the nearby kayaking "nature's adventures". Based upon the yelp reviews, we knew it would be good but didn't expect to have such fresh and tasty food, the most attentive waiter and great time. I highly recommend this place for fresh oysters, smoked salmon egg Benedicts on biscuits made in house and seafood board. Hoping To visit them again and explore more items in the menu. This was our third night's dinner out on our first ever visit to Charleston. Our dinner at NICO was the absolute BEST of our stay, and considering the level of dining in Charleston, that is saying a LOT. From the moment we arrived we were treated with a friendly welcome and great service. Our waiter, Nick, was friendly and extremely helpful with our menu choices and decisions. The pampelmousse cocktail was refreshing and a good complement to the dozen assorted oysters we ordered. The plating was spectacular! We had the trout almondine and the swordfish special along with potatoes au gratin and spaghetti squash sides. We could've used a couple more people to share, but everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. We only have one more night here on vacation, but I'm wishing we had time to return! Nico was the first stop on the bachelorette trip that I was a part of! We had reservations made for 10 people and our table was ready when we got there. We sat outside on a beautiful night. I ordered a "Nico" Mule to drink, which was pretty refreshing. Our table ordered a couple plates of the cheese plate to start off. The different cheeses were all really delicious and went pretty quickly amongst the ten of us! I also tried someone's fried calamari which so good! For my meal, I ordered the Baby Gnocchi "Parisien". The sauce was delicious and you could taste the artichokes very well. Other people ordered the lobster roll, chicken cordon bleu, filet mignon, and different types of oysters. Everyone enjoyed their meal! Our waitress was really nice and did a great job taking care of our large group! If you're traveling to Charleston, I would definitely recommend eating at Nico and exploring the Mt. Pleasant area around it! read more

The house oysters were very good. The food was also phenomenal. I got the always sunny beer that was also very good. If this was all i had to go on I would give this place a 5 star review. But the waitress started to rush us to leave toward the end which was very rude. Obviously she wanted us in and out so she could make more money despite us still wanting to order beer during happy hour. Also, she offered us the mushroom special but failed to tell us that the special was $11 instead of the normal menu price of $5. She should have been transparent with the price instead of sticking us with an upcharge like that without telling us. Very sneaky! I Took it out of her tip to compensate... Well I tried Nico's for the first time and I don't get the hype. It was not worth the two hour wait. I went this past Saturday and they clearly over-served a group because one guy got very angry with the manager and they were calling the police. Not a very professional setting. My gnocci was also overcooked. The espresso martini was great, but they should just stick to drinks. read more

I've been here twice while visiting my Mom; excellent food both times. The first visit was on a VERY busy night; I had secured reservations using an App--or so i thought! When we checked in, they said they had no reservation for us and I realized I had not hit the 'confirm' button so no, we did NOT have a reservation. No worries--Shawn (Sean? not sure) hooked us up with a comfy seat at the Bar where (Patrick?) the bartender was great help and very friendly. EXCELLENT food! Last night, I was back in town and we were treated to the same excellent service with Alex and was excited to try the "Whole Fish Thursday" special. The snapper was delicious and my Mom's swordfish special was also amazing. Bottom line? The Seafood is LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL and so fresh. I can't wait to return on my next visit to SC! read more
