I love going to Shwarma King! the menu is very extensive, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, service is very fast, the portions are huge and the prices cheap, and they have the best Fattoush salad I've ever had. This is one of my local favorites, I recommend it to all my out of town friends who are visiting. If you go at lunchtime, try their Turkish coffee, it's great. When I moved here from Georgia almost 2 years ago I scoped the restaurants online and was really excited about this one. I have gotten consistently good food and there are a lot of regulars. I'm writing tonight because I went in on my low carb pre Valentines Day diet and asked what they had with no bread, potatos or rice and they didn't bat an eye at the request. I got the chicken salad which is normally a ho hum order but because of the way the chicken is roasted, the side of the toum and what seemed to be actual toasted almonds it was really enjoyable. We were visiting Kalamazoo and wanted to experience a familiar food. We saw the small but full parking lot. The interior is worn and uninviting, but we were curious. I heard another customer complain about the wait, and the waiter responded that the reason was that each meal is prepared as ordered and takes time. I was encouraged. I did not notice a Gyro grill which is what Shawerma is cooked on. We ordered two different meals I ordered the King Platter and my wife ordered the Beef Shawerma. While waiting the waiter delivered a small plate of Hummus and plenty of pita bread. Even tho there was no olive oil on the Hummus, it was very delicious, correct texture and just the right amount tahini. We waited for almost 45 minutes for our meals to come. During the wait we also received the fattoush salad which was just passable. It did not contain genuine ingredients such as purslane. After a very long wait the meals came. The worst part was the Shawerma was not genuine at all. The meet was cut in rectangular strips and was obviously not fresh at all but it was obvious that it was reheated, probably more than once. It was too tough to bite into and we did not eat it. The tahini sauce on the side was too watery and disgusting. For a place to call itself Shawerma King, this place has no clue what Shawerma is supposed to be. The Yalanchi Sarma was so old that the rice inside had turned to mush. The fried kibble looked liked it had been fried several times. Too dark and too tough and had a flavorless stuffing. The Tabbouleh was just acceptable. The chicken kebab was acceptable with very little spices on it. It was the only item that was newly grilled. Spices are lacking from most foods. We are sad to say that it was a disappointing meal and feel sorry that others might get the wrong idea of what Mediterranean food is like. read more

Shawarma King nails it. In from out of town and went with the basics- tabouli, hummus and falafel. Each more than measured up. Hummus is velvety smooth with great flavor. Falafel crispy, dark brown and not greasy at all. Tabouli is heavy on parsley and not on bulgar as it should be. If you like Mediterranean, you will be impressed. You will have to stay on 94 to Dearborn if you want another restaurant that comes close. read more

I came in and ordered the chicken shawarma lunch and got hummus, pita, French fries, a drink and my chicken shawarma. All for around $9. I love this place, and the sister location hidden away closer to Western's campus. The prices are cheap (especially considering how much food you get), the chef seems like a super nice guy, and the food is seriously great. I think I could live forever just on fattoush salads and hummous from here. Also, everyone should take note that the fattoush is one of the few leafy salads that I've ever had that keeps in the fridge for a day or two. The dressing doesn't separate and make everything gross. It all stays crisp and fresh and delicious even after being shoved in the fridge overnight. Makes the whole thing even more of a bargain when you can graze on it for days on end. read more

Had one of the worst experience in ever dining out today. Reached at around 5:20 PM. Our order was taken at around 5:30 and then the long wait began. First 5 mins refill for our drinks came, after that it was just wait and wait.. finally at 6:10, after waiting 40 mins and seeing all other tables being served and people eating and leaving the place, went up to the waitress and the reaction was shocking, they misplaced the order and didn't even bother to be sorry about it and neither respond to us. They asked again for my order, 5 mins later salad was dumped on our table and 5 mins after that our entree was taken to wrong table and then after realizing it was on the wrong table they just dumped it on our table.
