Walking in, the first thing I noticed was all the vibrant colors on the floor and art work. It has a beer garden patio area with a nature/chill vibe to it. It's actually such a huge location with outdoor seating. I was quite surprised. Host and server were friendly and they were taking care of another customer when I went in to get my take out order. We had the best time! This past weekend was my first time eating Mexican food in the bay and Nido's was a solid choice! Vibes are great for brunch and dinner, it's very colorful inside and I love how they set up the whole outdoor space to actually look like a backyard. The atmosphere is upbeat and the staff is friendly. They offer modern Mexican food with an upscale hip flare. Started off with a Guavacita- there a plenty of drinks to choose from and if you like tequila and mezcal then this is your spot. I wanted to order everything on the menu but had to stop myself. I settled for the queso contigo dip, potato flautas and the chicken tinga tostada. Can't go wrong with any of these. My favorite may have been the potato flautas and the chicken tinga tostada. Potato flautas in general are underrated and I felt like they did a pretty good job with the potato filling and the tomatillo salsa. Chicken tinga tostada came with black beans and a whole bed of cheese. Bomb! Next time I'll be back with a bigger group so we can order everything on the menu. One of my favorite spots in Jack London! I mostly come here for brunch, they have fantastic drinks and seasonal pancakes which are always delicious. I'll get the pancakes, my boyfriend will get chilaquiles and we share, it's the perfect way to start a weekend. There's not a bad spot in the open air restaurant, but I do prefer it in the warmer months. But fret not, they have ample heaters around to keep you toasty even in the cold months. The staff are always super friendly too. It's also a great spot for larger groups as long as you place a reservation, there are plenty of nooks and areas they can place a larger group. My friend had her graduation dinner here after coming to brunch with me once and it was lovely, the Nidos team did an awesome job! Raw shredded cabbage and nothing else topped two of the most disappointing chunks of food I have forced myself to eat in a long time .Service was non existent. My date and I could have purchased at least ten or fifteen tasty tacos at a truck for the $45.00 we spend . I saw other things that looked good and in fact the last time I was there the food was at least edible. As you enter they have outdoor seating then you walk into the huge patio area where the bat is located and plenty of seating under the canvas patio covering. Very welcome with vibrant colors everywhere and music playing. The food was delicious, good serving size even had to bring some home and the drinks were good. Our waiter was attentive and added bonus they are also dog friendly. There were seven other parties whom also had their dogs with them. It's been a while since I've visited Nido, decided to take my toddler again. This place is really good for families. We arrived and they gave a toddler menu with coloring options for the little one to play during the meal. We ordered the birria, potatoes, and taco plate for 2 adults and 1 toddler - it was the perfect amount of food. Potatoes - 3/5 was expecting fried crunchy potatoes, but this was coated in sauce. While it was not bad, the mismatch expectation landed it a 3/5. I do think it is healthier this way tho, so to each their own. Toddler did not like. Birria - 4/5 this was probably the toddler's favorite, the cheese, the meat with the side of consume. I wish there was more onions to cut through the fattiness of the meat and cheese, but it was tasty nonetheless Taco plate - 4/5 toddler approve. I won a gift card at a fundraiser to this place and had never heard of it. I met up with some friends in Oakland and we decided to give it a try! Our order: crispy yukan potatoes (papas pasadas), carne asada taco ($7), baja taco ($7), caldo ranchero half order ($10), 2 chicken tacos, as well as a vegan horchata and another drink. The total cost was $78 after tax and tip, and including the $5 parking fee if you park in their secure parking lot across the street. Pros: - Really fun vibes and nice atmosphere, the decor and music is a really festive. The outdoor seated area is also great when the weather is nice, and it's good for larger parties since there's a lot of available seating. - Happy hour available - The papas pasadas were very tasty and warm, and I liked the crisp and spiciness of the baja taco. - It's nice that there's a secure parking lot if you want it and it has security, but there's also street parking available that I would recommend you use during the day time if it's not crowded. - Really polite service all around from all the staff. - Food is very photogenic haha, very beautifully plated Cons: - The food was very overpriced in my opinion for the quality and quantity. $7 for a taco is too much and it was regular sized. - Unfortunately the chicken tacos were cooked, but came out cold. - Horchata was also good, but also expensive in my opinion. I used to come here all the time for brunch and drinks, and would highly recommend it for people to try out. So when a friend and I were looking to grab brunch, I remembered how much I love their brunch and atmosphere and came here (last time I was there was maybe a year ago). We had an 11am reservation on a Saturday and were seated promptly. Our waiter came by and brought water and menus, and we quickly settled on our order and put in our drink order. I got the aqua Fresca and my friend got the non alcoholic margarita. I watched the restaurant fill up, and people (who came in or ordered after us) get their mimosas and beers, as we sat empty-handed. It took a while for the waiter to realize that the drinks were either never put in or missed, and I watched as he talked to the bartender while pointing at our table. The bizarre thing is that we expected the na margarita to be a drink that would be mixed by the bartender, when what came out was a canned drink. So basically, we ordered the easiest premade drinks and it took 20+ minutes? Also, this tasted like tonic water, nothing more. I got the ollita de pobre with carne asada and a fried egg, which used to be my favorite thing from here, but honestly, was meh at best on this occasion. The restaurant is spacious, there's plenty of seating available, and I can see how a few drinks here in the evening could be a good time. My waitress was kind, attentive, and warm. The burrito comes with two salsas which are so delicious, you will want to drink them -mole: best mole I have ever had. I always introduce friends and family here for their chilaquiles. I've been here like 4x in the span of 3 months. But now they changed so much of it. Not only did the pricing go from $17 to $20, but they used blue corn tortilla chips instead of the typical flour tortilla chips. The sauce is also less acidic and spicy, there was significantly less egg, no cilantro, no chorizo, and the beans were so so watery. By the time I was working on my plate, it was so liquidy that I had to mop it up with a tortilla. Maybe the tariffs hit them, who knows. Their old chilaquiles over... whatever this cheapaquiles was :( Also, I asked for for no dairy in my chilaquiles (in the past, they'll automatically substitute dairy items like crema with cashew crema). My order showed up with only egg on top of my chips, so I asked for a side of non dairy crema again. They took my order to the back and 20 min later, now there was no egg?? Literally just chips and beans on my plate. I asked the waitress about my egg and the cashew crema again. So she sent it back and came carrying with the original plate that was first sent back, but now with a side of crema. But by the time this had happened, the dish was thoroughly soggy. I was really confused and disappointed bc this has never happened here before. My friends and family ordered the papas pasadas and mole dish though, and they were delicious. I've passed by this restaurant many times before and decided to try it out since it was part of Oakland Restaurant Week's lineup! The restaurant week special was an entree, a non-alcoholic drink, and a dessert for $25. You were able to choose for the entree and drink, but not the dessert. I ended up getting a guava yuzu aqua fresca and the mole del mercado con pollo, and the pastel de chocolate. First and foremost, the guava yuzu agua fresca was probably the best agua fresca I've ever had. And the flavor combination? It was so delicious and refreshing! I literally had to stop myself from drinking it all so that I could savor it. The mole was pretty new to me, as I've only ever had it on one other occasion. It came with tortillas, rice, and a plateful of mole. I thought the chicken leg was tender and paired well with the rest of the dish. I liked the mole but it was a little too intense for me (smoky flavor?). Probably just me since I haven't had it much. The dessert was a olive cake topped with ganache, strawberries, and pieces of honeycomb. Super chocolatey and paired well with the cream and fruit. It was only a few bites and definitely something to remember! Staff was friendly and quick to take our order. One thing I noticed was that service was a bit slow (we were only one of two tables and food took quite a bit to come out). I think the kitchen messed up our order because staff brought out complimentary chips and salsa due to the wait. I appreciated that they let us know though. We skipped alcoholic drinks, which they're known for, and ordered cokes, waters and chips and guac for the table. The chips were crisply baked and the guacamole was fresh and flavorful. I ordered the fish tacos plate ($18), which was mediocre at best. The fish was too crisp for my taste, and the presentation uninspiring. I talked my co-workers into dessert, and we ordered the coco flan ($10). This was tasty and had the perfect balance between firmness and jiggleness! The fruit compote they put on top took this dessert OVER the top. Guava, a bit of orange rind, and other delicious flavors that I could not decipher. Service was efficient and friendly.
