Nielson is one of those places that feels like a true small business that has a heart. My roommate's Kia lost its radiator when the water pump belt snapped on the freeway. I fixed the belt but didn't have time to do the radiator. To save money, we ordered the parts ourselves. When another mechanic fell through, we called around looking for a shop. Some places simply wouldn't give the time of day, others wouldn't install customer supplied parts, others just simply were too busy to get the vehicle serviced in a timely manner. Nielson got us in the next day, gave us the lowest quote of any place we called, and then bent over backwards to be accommodating when we picked up the vehicle. I brought my car here for spot painting of my fender flare that was hit by someone. They have some fancy description of the spot painting process and blending so I figured I'd give them a shot. Q was very assuring that they could handle this simple repair and take care of spot painting and blending so I left the car with them. Upon pickup of my car I was immediately disappointed. There was overspray on the paint protection film on the fender flare, there were spots of the new paint all over the flair and the color of the new paint clearly didn't match the original paint. The area that was damaged was also not sanded smooth prior to paint and you could see the lines where the fender flare was scraped. I pointed all this out to Q who told me to give it a couple days...I'm not sure how this would have improved the poor paint job but it was a Friday evening and didn't want to leave my car there for the weekend, so I paid and left. On Monday in daylight I looked at the flare again and it was even more evident that the paint job was done poorly. I e-mailed Q letting him know I would like to bring the car back in as the paint looks bad. I also asked him to confirm that they'll be able to get it fixed correctly or I'd like a refund so I can go get it done correctly elsewhere. No response for 24 hrs. I then decided to call and after a couple attempts was able to get Q on the phone. I explained I want it fixed correctly. We set an appointment for a couple weeks out. I took the car back in and showed Q the poor work on the agreed date and asked him if his team is going to actually be able to get it done right. He kept saying, we'll do our best and if it's not right, we'll fix it. Unfortunately that wasn't very re-assuring as I don't have all the time in the world to keep taking my car back to them to fix crappy work. Q offered to refund me at this point, which was what I had originally asked for via e-mail if he couldn't commit to fixing it correctly. The shop has all 5 star reviews except for this one. That's generally a red flag but I figured they couldn't stay in business in Bellevue if they didn't do good work. I guess I was wrong. They might be good at mechanical repairs but I'd look elsewhere for body work and paint. read more

I've been coming here for the last couple of years to service my 2014 Mazda 3 ever since they offered a Groupon for oil changes. Coming here is so much cheaper than going to the Mazda dealership for servicing. One time I thought I needed to get my oil changed, but the owner at Nielson told me that my car still had a few more months of driving to go before it needed it. I was a bit surprised since no one has ever told me this when ever I take my car in to get serviced, and I really appreciated the honesty. He also explained some of the things that needed attention on my car and gave me information on when would be a good time to come in to have them fixed, as well as answered any of my questions. If you bought a Groupon for an oil change in the past, Nielson can still honor the Groupon price if you buy the oil change directly through them according to the website. It's very difficult to find an honest mechanic these days, and I'm glad I found one at Nielson. I won't be going back to the dealership anymore for servicing! read more

My wife and I bring our cars here whenever we need servicing and are always very satisfied. Q is very experienced, straight forward, and honest. Just recently on a Sunday, one of our cars wouldn't start and couldn't tell if it was the battery, a bad starter, or something else. We had it towed to Nielsen and the next day he was able to look at it right away and found it was a very minor issue with the battery terminal contact. The battery was still good and there were no issues elsewhere. He replaced the battery terminal contact and had it ready to pick up by that afternoon. read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I purchased a living social coupon for three oil changes. This coupon was not transferable and could only be used on the same car. I had every intention of using the 3 oil changes on the same car when I purchased it. Unfortunately prior to needing the 2nd oil change my son was in a car accident and the car was totaled. I have all documents showing this and that we no longer have the car. The owner of the shop was unwilling to let me use the remaining 2 oil changes for one of the cars that I still own. I don't see how it costs him any more or makes any difference what car I have the oil change done on. I am the same person coming to his business with a car I can prove I own. He had an opportunity to earn my business and future regular price oil changes on 4 cars. But since he is unwilling to honor the coupon I paid for and create a good customer service relationship I will no longer use his business and I would suggest others think twice before they do. read more

I have been a customer of Nielsen for 18 years. Throughout that time I have received consistently excellent and honest service as well as advice on everything from appropriate maintenance to future auto purchases. The focus has always been on providing service and maintaining a long term relationship. Allen and Q have always stood behind their work and have saved me thousands by helping me avoid unnecessary work suggested by others. You know - the oil change and tire shops, and auto dealerships that propose work that doesn't really need doing - or worse don't correctly execute work that needs doing. Recently the shop increased the scope of work they can do and now this is the only place I go to for any auto work. I drive a 2000 Honda SUV and Nielson has kept it on the road past 170k. After an accident last year all other shops gave me significantly higher quotes and my insurer declared my car totaled and gave me 4 grand as a settlement. Nielson took care of all the damage for $1700 and I happily pocketed $2300 and continued driving with no problems. Nielson also serviced a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo I gave to my son before we drove it across the country safely and I left it with him confident all possible issues had been taken care of. When I first arrived in the Seattle area 18 years ago there were many mechanics who would take much more money to provide far less service. Fortunately a neighbor recommended this shop and Nielsen and "Q" have provided seamless service I am happy to rely on. Nielson Auto Repair: I took my SUV to this shop to replace the timing belt. After two days the mechanic called me and said, the car is ready to be picked up. I paid the invoice and as soon i drove the car I noticed that the wheel is very hard to turn and the engine makes a strange noise. I mentioned the problem to the mechanic. He said that he knew about the problem but not sure to fix it or not. I told him that I brought in the car without any problem and you are giving me a broken car. Long story short, for his mistake he charged me extra $540 to fix the car which it has never had any issue before. I never ever take any car to him and will tell anyone to avoid this shop. read more
