If you value yourself as a human being do not go to Nigel. This whole experience has felt like an abusive relationship with a psychopath. I took a robe and a CORSET (That I personally made) to Nigel for some alterations and the addition of a zipper. Due to covid and being constantly exposed or in a quarantine this elongated the whole process from Mid December till Now. Long story short, which I'm sure Nigel will love to chime in, so look for his condescending comments to appear below. He lost the corset, he also is saying that I picked it up. Nigel originally told me he had me on his doorbell camera, I asked for the footage and all of a sudden his story changed to his wife hearing me pick it up. Nigel is refusing to provide me footage and furthermore brought up the ridiculous suggestion that I have an imposter his words not mine. He also said he requested the building surveillance from the police precinct and again has not provided any follow up on another one of his lies. He refuses to reimburse me, refuses to make one, and is still gaslighting me as if I picked it up, he says he has surveillance, and yet I'm not being given these videos. I'm really tired of the lying, the stealing and the overall lack of professionalism. His constant need to talk about his reputation and importance in the fashion industry really has been more of his concern than fixing his mistake, it's selfish and an embarrassment to the small business community. What's amazing is I was telling people at work about this situation and the coworker turned out to be his client, not anymore. Again he told me he was concerned that someone was posing as me... well the only person posing is you as a legitimate and honest tailor. I also have to say that a lot of the negative reviews were exactly similar experiences to what I went through Alma - "He wouldn't let me get a word in when I had instructions for my pieces", "Instead of being held accountable for his mistake he manipulated the situation, raised his voice at me and called me unprofessional for arguing." This man cannot admit when he messes up period. I have been coming here for a while when it was just Nigel and didn't have any issues. I thought Nigel did so well when I moved farther away I still kept going. My last dress I brought in didn't turn out great, but I thought maybe it was the dress. I brought in another dress and had to bring it back three times - it was altered too short and the lining of the slip was hemmed longer than the actual dress. By the third time I need to wear the dress to the wedding and the lining was still showing in the front of the dress. When you look the back of the slip lines up but the front is about three inches longer than the dress and the inner lining. I paid a lot of money and the dress is ruined. I will never go back again. Seems Nigel is expanding and hired a few other people since I first started going, so that may be the issue at hand. Really disappointing and a complete waist of my time and money. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO NIGEL: I was not allowed to try it on when I picked it up the first time, my dress was shoved out the door to me. When I got home and brought it back the next day to show the errors I was told it would be fixed. I tried it on when I picked it up the next time, after it was handed to me again and I demanded I try it on. It was still incorrect and I explained what was wrong. By the third time the weeding was that weekend and the error was clearly not going to be fixed. read more

Nigel was incredible. It was a week before my wedding and I was having second thoughts on the way my Carolina Herrera dress was tailored (had previously had it altered by someone the bridal boutique recommended in South Carolina). I had a few friends work with Nigel on their wedding gowns so knew I could trust him from the beginning with something so important and only weeks notice! Nigel fit me into his schedule immediately and was able to also alter my rehearsal dinner dress (which I didn't even know I needed altered until I showed him!) nigel made note of all the places that needed to be fixed and had me come in literally 48 hours later for the "first fitting" and I picked up the dress after 4 days TOTAL! He was super quick and made sure that I felt comfortable knowing that I was taking a huge risk so close to my wedding. I really could not recommend him more. He was also kind enough to squeeze my dad in and help him with some minor tux alterations. On top of everything, Nigel's pricing was incredibly fair and he was transparent through it all. I've been going to Tailors Atelier for years. Nigel and his staff have done consistently excellent work: taking clothes in, letting them out (alas!), hemming trousers, repairing vintage clothing. And despite the fact that I've been an infrequent customer with small jobs, Nigel always remembers me. I was sad to see their original shop had closed during the pandemic, and delighted to discover that they've reopened in a smaller space over between Avenues B & C. To say planning a wedding during Covid was a challenge would be an understatement but funny enough, the wedding dress was the easiest part. I managed to find my dress at a sample sale right before Covid struck in Feb 2020 and my wedding was in November 2020. I was relieved to have found a dress I loved so quickly but I knew finding a tailor who I trusted with my wedding dress might be tricky. The ladies at the sample sale gave me the names of 3 tailors so I looked them up and read their reviews but to my surprise, each had some iffy-reviews. But one mentioned after a bad experience with her original tailor, she ended up going to see Nigel at Tailors Atelier and he did a fantastic job. It was then that I found Nigel and proceeded to read all of his reviews and knew he was the tailor for me. When I took it to him he was so friendly and excited to work with me and my dress. He shortened the strap, replaced the cups with ones that fit me and matched my skin tone better, detached the lace so that he could tighten the mid-section and then reattached it to the skirt, hemmed it without losing the flare at the bottom, and added a bustle. He did an incredible job taking the sample and making it fit my petite body! I can't say enough positive things about my experience working with Nigel and the team at Tailors Atelier. I also had them alter the sleeves on my wedding day robe, as well as a bridesmaid dress for another wedding I'm in and I plan to continue taking all my clothes to Nigel for future alterations. read more
