I came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. We ordered 3 cocktails from the female bartender with tattoos and when she ran us up, my friend noticed that she charged us over $600, likely hoping that we were too drunk to notice. She had already charged my friend's credit card so I had to call the bar manager, Jason, over to help reverse the charge. Mind you, our drinks should've only been $45. Thankfully Jason was awesome so I wasn't going to complain however later on, when I stepped outside to get some air, I saw her talking to the bouncer about me and laughing as I was walking back in. I can overlook a mistake but to over charge us $600 for 3 drinks and then having no remorse or apology about it afterwards just doesn't sit right with me. I can only imagine how many times she's tried this before to people who weren't paying attention. The only reason I'm not giving a 1 star is because the rest of the staff is awesome and super friendly. Just sucks that there's a bad seed among them. read more

Came here for drinks on a Friday night around 10. It was busy, all seats were taken, but plenty of standing room. Luckily as we walked up to the bar, a couple seats opened up and got to take those. We were surprised to see there was a Live DJ which added to the ambiance of the place. They were playing House music which I don't mind. The bartenders were very attentive and it was super easy to get a drink while seated at the bar. The overall bar itself is nicely decorated. The single bathroom in the back was clean. As of writing this, Broadway is closed off to cars so parking is gonna be a block or so away. I was able to find street parking just around the corner. I went for the drink named Afterhours (Whiskey, Fernet, ginger and lime) and my friend went for an Old-Fashioned, both of which were absolutely delicious. It's worth noting that this is more of a "have a drink at the bar" sort of a place and doesn't have much of a seating situation. I tried two drinks, both were terrible: 1.0/5: Simons punch. It's a milk-clarified punch with nutmeg, and the base spirit changes on a weekly basis. I've had about a dozen milk-clarified punches at various bars in the South Bay, and this one is by far the worst. This batch may have been a misfire; it should be taken off the menu. It tastes like a super-watered-down version of a real milk punch. 1.5/5: The Honey Bee is a super dry rum and ginger drink. And It's far too dry to have any kind of balance to it. read more

This cocktail bar is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a lively atmosphere with a crowd that was as fun as the energy exuding from the rest of the downtown atmosphere. I went on Friday evening around 6:30! My brother wanted to buy me a drink for my birthday while we waited for our table at Mezra. But the male bartender was a bit off. He seemed annoyed when my brother asked about the IPAs, didn't really explain them, and then instead of taking our orders, he spent time flirting with the two girls next to us, even though they weren't ready at all and was still looking at the menu. Our bill came to $51.00 for three drinks...a little overpriced, yes, but we dealt with it. Our friends enjoy sipping tequila and ordered a few different options. They asked and were told it was $25 a shot and one round was $75. When they received their bill it was almost $1000 (about $984 +) for 3 people! The bartender thought I was walking in with my service dog (which I'm allowed), and even before I was able to approach him and come in he yelled out and started making signs that my dog was not allowed and to get out. Wanted to try this place on a rare date night on a Saturday, thanks to Yelp. We were surprised at how crowded it already was at 8pm, but perhaps people were imbibing in pre-dinner drinks OR wanting a cocktail or two and a bite to eat because they no longer can stay out past 11pm (getting older does have its drawbacks). Anyway, we came here for their craft cocktails and food, and it didn't disappoint. I ran into a childhood friend, who is a regular, and she couldn't sing their praises any higher. And she knows a good cocktail, as she's an old fashioned drinker, like the Mr. The drink menu is quite diverse, from bubbles to the gin to the brown stuff (whisky, rye, etc.,). After intensely studying the menu, I opted to try their House G&T infused with earl grey. The subtle flavor blended so nicely together, and enjoyed it immensely. The Mr enjoyed his old fashioned and settled in nicely. My next round was the Spanish Gin and Tonic, which had a more floral and earthy flavor to it, and garnished appropriately (see pic). It was refreshing and light, and felt like I could probably go for a 3rd drink (especially since the Mr. wanted another, and I wanted the rounds to be even, ya know?) After talking with Randy, the awesome bartender whom also hails from Sunnyvale, he created a nice spiced Moscow Mule for me, as I told him that was my Go-To drink. It was incredible, and maybe because I was already feeling pretty good. He created it based on the flavor profile preferences, and it was to perfection. Food was incredible, as we had the shrimp tacos and the barbacoa tacos. My favorite were the shrimp as the shells were warm and toasty, and the shrimp bursting with lime and cilantro flavors. The Peruvian ceviche was decent, but because the tacos were filling and included chips, we could've passed on it. All in all, an incredible night at the NightHawk. Love the decor and chill vibe of this bar, and the DJ was spinning some great tunes. Awesome place for a date night and to catch up with a friend. I love this place. I've now been three times, so it's time to share my experience! Their cocktails are artfully crafted, and all sound so delicious! Here is what I've tried so far, and my thoughts: The Transparent Mermaid: bright and tangy, definitely a crowd-pleaser. The Bloodhound: Sweeter than expected, I was thinking would more bitter like a greyhound ... I would not order again but sweet drink lovers would enjoy this. The Sequoia Sour: delicious, nice and balanced, the froth from the egg white is always fun and makes it kind of creamy. After Hours: Holy moly - delicious! My friend ordered it and I was so surprised to find it to be my fave as I'm not as into dark liquor cocktails! This is my A+!!! Creamy, and tangy, so balanced and yummy! The Spanish Gin & Tonic: Nice & refreshing! The added lime gives it a fresh tart take on a classic, I love it! Also very pretty! The Honey Bee: I enjoyed this, all the interesting ingredients made me order this as my first cocktail ever at this bar....I forget the flavors now but I know I liked it!!! Food: Chips, Salsa and Guacamole = yum!!! The chips came warm, were nice thicker crispy rounds with fresh homemade guacamole, and a yummy roasted type salsa, so good! Wish I tried more of the food, stay tuned for that!! Also, this last time we went we met the bartender, Kyle whom shared with us that he's only been bartending for 4 months (not just at Nighthawk, but EVER!!!) He was so amazing, friendly, fast and handled a good sized crowd (say close to 20 people all arriving basically at once) so smoothly. He was so fun, and helpful... Terrible experience at the bar tonight. Let me start by saying I'm a local that lives within walking distance and I've been here many times. Unfortunately tonight was my last visit. I went in with my husband hoping for a couple of pre-dinner cocktails and we had a horrible experience. Our bartender (blonde guy with a really terrible attitude) could have cared less about anything and appeared to be hungover, not from booze, but from a long night up with no sleep. We both ordered off of their drink menu, and the bartender serving us literally complained about the drinks we ordered while he was making them. Way to make us feel guilty for ordering off of your menu. I watched as the bartender made my drink and dumped less than half a shot into my drink and poured the rest of the full jigger of mezcal into the sink. My drink was literally made with less than half a shot and only two ingredients instead of the four listed on the menu. My husband's drink was worse. Our bartender was so out of it that he gave my husband a lime and syrup cocktail with no alcohol or any of the other ingredients that were supposed to be included, minus lime and syrup. We both had ordered the drinks we ordered tonight on previous trips and these WERE NOT what we had received in the past. The worst part pf all, my husband's cocktail didn't even CONTAIN ALCOHOL (he made the drinks in front of us). The bartender we were blessed with also complained the whole time about how annoyingly complex the garnish on my husband's drink was and proudly informed us that they were removing that drink from their menu soon. All the while he didn't even make the drink right because he was so messed up and too busy complaining. He even badmouthed the other bartender on duty, calling him a "showoff" for making the drink correctly! After hearing him shoot down the other bartender for doing his job, I really wished we had sat at his end of the bar. What a mess. Our bartender was an embarrassment, his inability to function and his rude attitude were enough to turn us off for good. It looks like there are other reviews calling this guy out, such a shame that one bartender is going to single-handedly cause locals and out-of-towners alike to spend their money elsewhere. After seeing the fancy cocktails online we were very excited to try Night hawk. When you walk into most restaurants with a bar that serves food there is usually a host to greet you or a check in system to let the staff know you're waiting for a table. Since we did not see any of these typical signs we walked in to see if we could order drinks from the bar but the bar staff continued to make their drinks without acknowledging us. The loud music made it was hard to talk across the bar with a mask so I borrowed a menu from the bar and sat down in the red lounge chairs as we waited for a staff member to come to take our order. As a former food server at Santana Row I would check in with guest waiting at the front of the restaurant when the current host was showing a guest to their table. When a customer came into the restaurant I would say "How can I help you?" I would always make every guest felt welcome coming through the doors, but the only words they said to us were "see you guys later" after we waited 20 minutes for someone to come over to our table. After leaving this bar I saw that the Black Smith across the street had more customers and they were playing more lively music. We decided to spend our $100 across the street at LV Mar where we welcomed at the front door by the host and had a amazing meal with exceptional customer service from every staff member. read more

They make pretty good cocktails and the small plates were delicious and well-priced. The waiters were also very courteous. It's definitely not a sit-down dinner type of place.
