Everytime we go, weekend or weekday; the staff is friendly and fast. No matter how busy, they always work smoothly as if they have been there forever. The place is typically busy, especially packed on weekends. The drinks are pretty dang good, and unique. I've had about half the drinks on their menu now and I've enjoyed them all. Memento Mori is my current favorite, followed by Phoenix Feather. Drinks are not all super sweet or overpowering flavor wise, with a wide range of choices and varying intensities. The pastries are great too, and seem to cycle about half the offerings frequently. Their made to order menu is unique, with the Fat Bee being my regular choice. (Lavender cream, in a croissant, with a honey drizzle, lemon zest, and edible flowers) Thematic music is always playing, and it isnt so loud that you can't have a conversation. They also always seem to know what is playing if you want to listen to it later. Local artisans sell their wares that fit the vibe of the shop, with prints, hair accessories, essential oils, potions, and more; they seem to be very supportive of local creators. The walls are black, decorated with various pinned insects, flowers, and interesting small taxidermy in theme for the place. Furniture is varied and unique, along with a bar seating for 3 persons. With space for single patrons and small groups to find adequate seating assuming the location isnt packed with it being a fairly small space. This is my personal favorite coffee place (if it isnt obviousby now), and a weekly stop even though it is not on my way to other shops I frequent. My partner took me to this shop as an alternative to our usual trip to Starbucks. I was visiting his neighborhood and he was very excited to show me this place. And rightfully so - this is a very well executed idea for a gothic coffee shop. I was trurly amazed. The line stretched across the whole shop, which spoke to its popularity. I think they were understaffed the day we visited. It was only 3 employees and once of them was a cashier which also made drinks/ food. Stood in line for about 20mins until it was our turn to order. We did not mind the wait actually. It was very bearable with the music in the background and so many things for sale to look at. Once it was our turn my partner ordered a Cemetery Dusk Latte (Tiramisu latte, chocolate ribbons, mascarpone top and chocolate power), and a pineapple danish and coconut flakes. I ordered the Deadly Nightshade (Expresso, Blackberry Vanilla Syrup, Blackberry cold foam and sage), and the Little Lad Croissant which was served with cream and berries (and had cute little flowers for decorations). The shop was packed, but yet we somehow got two seats. There are tables, green couch and red velvet armchairs with a high backs. We sat on the armchairs. Everything was so delicious. I actually gave up drinking coffee, substituting it with matcha, but I decided to make an exception for today. And boy I am glad I did! I never had more delicious coffee. And if I said I did in my previous reviews, please consider that voided haha. Overall great experience! great location at Westwood and close to parking areas. Love their gothic theme as there's not a lot of themed cafes that Ive personally been to. Inside was nicely decorated with that dark, moody, Victorian feel. Also kinda reminds me of the Addams family for some reason tho lol this visit we tried their Cemetery Dust which was Tiramisu-flavored Iced Latte. This was a nice "dessert coffee" drink and perfect for that post-meal sweetness. We also got their Memento Mori (with this one, Harry Potter came to mind lol) and this was my favorite as I enjoy charcoal coffee and black sesame! This had a nice balance of espresso and sweetness. Stumbled upon this unique coffee shop while in the area. The workers were so friendly and they even have a small shop with merchandise, candles and more! Is the attitude to customers a shtick? Serious question As a witness: Don't come here with even well behaved kids. You will get the eyes upon walking in and they will reprimand them from even looking at their furniture that should probably be behind a barricade then. First off: lovely space and lovely people. The ambiance is dark and quiet --- perfect if you want to escape the busy street life on the outside. The service was also quite pleasant: all the workers were very nice in helping me choose something to order. I decided to order the "Cemetery Dust" --- described as a "Tiramisu latte, chocolate ribbons, mascarpone top, + chocolate powder". I have no doubt ALL THOSE ELEMENTS were in my drink, but upon first sip, I was --- disappointed. This is supposed to be the "top-seller", too! Not to be a coffee snob, but it tasted like regular iced coffee with a hell of a lot of chocolate syrup. It tasted like a thick MOCHA. The description sold the drink, but it didn't deliver. Last week, I stopped into Nightshade Coffee with my husband for matcha and bites to eat before running errands in the area. We saw a video review of the place, and it was on our list of cafes to check out and local businesses to support. Hubs was a fan of his hot matcha with oat milk. We were both fans of their drinkware. I wanted to try one of their signature drinks, so I went with a Type O matcha - the crushed pistachios and syrup were very good. We split a Slavic Shadow Sand-Witch. It's very good (vegetarian-husband approved). Before leaving, we got two hot Americanos to go. On a cloudy, rainy day, those drinks were jus right. From other places, Americanos can be very acidic - here, they were strong and smooth. read more

Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the sandwich, but it was served on a croissant with salami, and what really stood out to me were what I think were pine nuts ‍. The iced Majesty has become my go-to beverage order. One day ill try something else. I have been dying to visit nightshade coffee, as I had dreamed of a place like this since I was a student at FIT!!! I finally got there, and it did not disappoint! Fulfilling the Gothic and Victorian theme to the most minute of details and decor, this place really nailed the vibe and the coffee experience. BTW, I walked in within five minutes of their closing time and they still happily took my order. We were entranced by the comfy chartreuse, ornately gold-framed crushed velvet couches & crimson cocoon chairs. It was the Monday of a three day weekend and my wife wanted to get coffee. She had tried Nightshade with a friend and wanted me to try it. One of our daughters joined us. We arrived a bit before 3 and it was very crowded. The line moved pretty quickly. The ambience is awesome! Black walls, cool decor, and comfortable seating. My daughter enjoyed an iced coffee with cold foam and my wife enjoyed a chai latte. I was very happy to see pour over on the menu and went with that. I always feel a bit guilty ordering pour over in a crowded cafe but the owner was so nice about it. She said that pour over is her go to as well and we had a nice conversation about the Colombian beans that she has roasted specifically for her shop. The roast was medium dark and tasted delicious. My SO and I visited Nightshade Coffee on a late Thursday morning and found street parking easily. As soon as we walked in, my SO said, "This is totally your vibe." The place is decorated with beautiful gothic elements, and I was in love with the style immediately. There are some drinks listed on their menu with clever names, so I opted for their iced Deadly Nightshade specialty. The drink was comprised of espresso, blackberry vanilla syrup, blackberry cold foam, and sage. I couldn't wait to get my greedy little hands on my drink upon arrival and I was not disappointed. Their coffee base is quite good and my SO's drink was also tasty, even though I hardly ever like what he orders. There's some seating, including a bar with stools, but not a ton of options. Was excited to try this spot. It has pretty cool decor and I do like that they're open later than other coffee spots but that is likely the only reason I'll come back (if other spots are closed). Maybe it's a better place to go if you like fun/fancy "coffee" drinks that disguise coffee flavor with milks or syrups. I'm not a coffee snob by any means but I do love a good classic rich cup of coffee and for me, I've tried the Americano, iced coffee, cappuccino and cortado here and unfortunately all had that burnt Starbucks kind of taste :( Hopefully it'll get better with time and I do wish them the best of luck - but I do recommend some of the other local coffee spots over Nightshade. read more

Stopped in here for a pick me up midday. The place was so busy! The outside doesn't look like much the inside is super cool. Definitely a more gothic type vibe with old school crushed velvet furniture, dark walls and some interesting decor. The menu is posted on the wall above the coffee/matcha making area. There are quite a few places to sit including a little bar area and outdoor seating for the warmer months. I was feeling something different so I decided to try the Type O, which I got with a matcha base, and has pistachio syrup, matcha cold brew and topped with crushed pistachios. This drink was pretty! I'm not kidding, this is my new favorite coffee shop! The decor inside is obviously so cute. I've been here twice already. The first time was early morning middle of the week so no line. The second time was on a Saturday afternoon and it took some time so be prepared to be patient! The workers are so incredibly sweet and really take their time to the drinks and food. Wow is this place popular!!! The design and ambience inside is so gothic and cool reminds me of the slytherin house from Harry Potter. Tried this new coffee shop in North Jersey and it's not your standard run of the mill hipster coffee shop. This place is the most unique coffee shop you'll find. The moment you walk in, the ambiance hits you--dark, gothic, cozy, and incredibly well-designed. This coffee shop has tons of character. I tried one of their drinks and it was fantastic. Honestly one of the better café drinks I've had anywhere in NJ. You can tell they put effort into creating their menu with different blends/flavors. I ordered the $6 Cemetery Dust Iced Coffee which is - tiramisu latte, chocolate ribbons, marscapone top, and chocolate powder. The drink came out as what looked like just a cup of milk. There were no chocolate ribbons, just chocolate syrup drizzled on the inside of the cup. There was zero espresso taste whatsoever or any sweetness/flavor. The best way I can describe this drink is a $6 cup of chocolate milk with ice. And by chocolate milk, I mean the faintest hint of basic chocolate syrup. I was especially disappointed with this drink because I drove 40 mins to the shop to try it. read more

My two favorite coffee places I have been to in the last month are Nightshade in Westwood and Rey Del Sol in Ridgewood! I love unique places, and when I saw this was opening in the town next to me I knew it would be fun! My daughter and I went during winter break and we both loved it! She's 8, and a tough critic! Dont tell her but while she's been in school I've gone like 4 times! I went today but was sad to see it was closed! Its okay I know Tuesdays are sometimes an off day for local businesses! Hands down though the Cemetary Dust is one of the top 5 best coffee concoctions I have ever had. Its such a perfect mix of ingredients like blackberry and sage. Figured we try out this new coffee shop in the area. Wanted to show support and was very impressed upon walking in with the decor. However I will cut straight to the point we waited on line for quite a long time just to order coffee. There were 3 people ahead of us and we were there for 20 mins before it was our turn. When it was our turn we walked up and the barista that was furthest away said "we will be right with you". The one standing nearest to us didn't even acknowledge us... another 15 mins later and still no one took our order. The barista seemed annoyed and distant. At this point we decided to leave, ended up getting a ticket because it took so long to go back to the car meter. 35 mins and no order taken you be the judge, would you wait that long for an order not to be taken? We just wanted a coffee but no coffee is worth the long wait and bad service we got. read more
