Delicious food as always -- and this time with air conditioning, so 5 stars!! Plates are still ginormous, so one will freed 2 adults full! We stared with an order of falafel and dolmas for the table. Falafel was crispy outside and tender inside, with delicious spice and excellent texture. Dolmas were canned, but we aren't complaining because we don't make them at home either! We ordered the lamb gyro, which was super stuffed with lamb meat on a fresh pita. Homemade tzaziki sauce gave the sanwich a fresh and sour zing, perfectly complementing the savoury lamb. Chicken doner platter fed 2 adults. A generous portion of marinated chicken roasted on the vertical spit came with a large Greek salad and 2 pitas. DELICIOUS!!! The portions are huge, "Texas-sized," I heard the guy up front say. So you get a lot for your money. If that's all you are interested in, stop reading here. The meat was dry and very, very salty. A third of the way into my gyro I couldn't taste anything more than the meat and the occasional onion. I ordered some dolmas (dolmada, dolmades). I'm used to paying a buck-fifty or two even for just two pieces, but it was $2.99 for six. Good deal? Maybe. But the dolmas are ice cold. Sure you can eat it like this, but I never have been served this. The dip they gave it with was also solidified. Check the photos for the crying dolmadas, sitting in water. I think they have a very good vision, but the execution is poor. Three stars is generous for this review, but I want them to get better. read more

This place is awesome. Another type hole in the wall restaurant of Abilene. Don't let the location of the plaza deter you from trying out this place. I feel the same about a lot of the restaurants located in this plaza but anyway. Niko's is pretty much the most authentic Greek food you can get in Abilene I'm sure. What's so great about them? It's a roomy restaurant that's clean. You come in and you're greeted by the blue paint on the wall and the massive decor on the walls. Just gives you Greek vibes. The menu is located at the front of the store and you order at the register. I got the combo because it is a good deal, you get a gyro with fries and a drink. If you look behind the register, you see the different meats on the back and they cut it upon you ordering. I got it to-go and when I came home I was in awe. The gyro portion is huge. They stuff it with the lamb/beef and I'm not complaining! My only complaint is I wish the regular gyro comes with an assortment of veggies without it costing extra. They could go for less of the lamb/beef to have room for the veggies but I'm not complaining too much. It's a good deal. It's such a big portion that you can't even eat it decently. The fries were thick and crispy, really perfect and they seasoned it just right. I'm a definite fan and if you haven't tried Niko's, you should. The staff was nice and I'm sad that I missed out on this place for so long. read more

Niko's is a great joint! The owner is always there, and even though I don't go every week he recognizes me, which I think is a really nice touch. The best thing to get is the regular Gyro with the add on of Feta cheese. These are so tasty and made when you order it, so it's always fresh and hot! These are over stuffed!!! You will not leave hungry. Also recommended is the hummus with peppers. Very good with the pita. All in all this is a highly recommended place for lunch or when your suffering an extreme hangover! read more

Nice little find in Abilene. Owners were very friendly & the atmosphere was good. While I was there they had just as many to-go orders as customers so you can certainly get it in a hurry if you need to. Prices here are reasonable for what all you get. I had the beef & lamb gyros and there was so much meat I couldn't finish them both. (They don't use a lot of fluff & filler like other places I've been). Solid food spot! Prices were good ($6 for a gyro), and I like that they focus on a few items and do it well. They have beef/lamb or chicken for the gyro meat, as well as falafel balls, fries, and grape leaves. They also have $3 cheesecakes. You can get bottled drinks or fountain drinks. The interior is simple and homey. I got the regular gyro, and my goodness are they generous with the meat! Half was plenty to fill me up. You get some serious bang for your buck here. The meat was nicely seasoned and flavorful. The pita was nice and soft. And the tzaziki/yogurt sauce and raw onions complemented the meat very well. The only detracting point is that it was quite greasy (oh well, I'll treat my arteries better for a different meal). Delicious and great value. Come here if you are looking for an amazing Gyro! The Gyro meat is well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Their is a nice crustiness to some of the pieces of meat, then others, succulent. Great food, huge portions, and great prices. One of the things I like best about traveling is finding new restaurants. Tonight my wife and I decided to go for Greek and found Niko's. What a great experience this turned out to be!  We both decided to have the Gyro Special. The gyro sandwich was absolutely delicious and the french fries were very fresh and good. I loved the portion size. It has been years since having a gyro sandwich with more than four or five slices of meat. This one was loaded with meat! Can't wait to return to Abilene so I can eat at Niko's again! In addition to great food this small restaurant was very clean. Not something I find in a lot of restaurants. Freaking love this place. West Texas can be weird and isolated so good food is a must. Upon arrival in Abilene a few years ago I was told of 3-4 places I had to try, and this place was on the list.
