10 times or more in 3 weeks. This is the amount of times in 3 weeks I have returned to this shop to pick up my wife's shoes that Niko said he would have each and every time I returned. My first day, he said to come back in 2 days. I gave him 4. I come back, he asked if I could come back the next day. The next day, again, he asked if I could come back the next day. The next day comes, and he fixes the shoe that took 15 mins. A 15 minute repair that's taken about a week. I get the shoes and while they almost looked the same, they were entirely different - only 1 was my wife's. Each day in almost a month, for the next additional 7-8 visits , I came back coz he said he would have the other pair and each day was a lie after the next. He said he needed to go to the "other" shop where it was sent, but never did... then he swore on his father he would have it back, but didn't... then he had the audacity to say "your wife picked it up," when I know for a fact my wife didn't coz she's been at home sick. Each and every time, in essence, I too was also lying to my wife each time she asked when she'll get it, as I base it on his word. I told him "they were very expensive shoes that have sentimental value coz we got them from Europe when we went for the very first time." He said, "come back again and if I don't have it then, I'll pay you FULL PRICE." My last and final visit, he only offered me $300, when I was kind enough to tell him "they were $500, but will only ask for $400 since they were used." He said "I'm not working right now (even though he had a wad of bills in his hand as he gave me the money). He says this while the shop was open for business!!! Not once was I ever not a gentleman, polite and respectful during the whole process. Not once! THIS IS, WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE WORST REPAIR SERVICE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! I am so impressed by Niko's shoe repair. I'm working a booth at a Dance competition inside the Universal Hilton and noticed the rubber part of my heel was missing and was walking on the nail. I called Niko's and they said they would come to me. They came and picked up my shoes and brought them back in less than 30 minutes and they look great! Assuming the guy is actually named Niko, I like to call Niko my cobbler. I know he doesn't make the shoes, but damn, he's too great to not attach some awesome label to him. So cobbler it is! I used to get my shoes shined at the Glendale Galleria shoe repair shop, but it proved to be a daunting drive for such a small task. So I opted for something closer to work and found this place. WHAT A FIND! The cobbler is a wonderfully nice, slightly unkempt middle-aged man who likes to watch TV in the back. His blackened fingernails are a GOOD sign that he likes to get down and dirty with your shoes. And he's great at it. His english is pretty good although he has a heavy accent, but he's surprisingly kinda witty and easy to talk to. And his match. com account username is..... I go in occasionally to get my shoes shined and my shoes have always come out perfectly. At the beginning, he used to give me a ticket, but now he just recognizes me and doesn't give me a ticket anymore. My shoes are always ready for pick up within 24 hours. I just took in my new To Boot New York shoes for a shining and they came back spotless and perfect! And for cheap! A shoe shining will set you back a grand total of $5. I tried to tip him once, but he didn't want it. And like the gremlin that I am, I always look for new candy he puts out in the candy bowl on the counter. One time, he put this Armenian wafer candy out and damn that thing was delicious. He seems to be putting out chocolate now, but one day, I'll find that Armenian wafer candy again. ONE DAY. Horrible experience! My son wanted a patch sewn on to his messenger bag, now I know it's tricky to hand sew something on, but the finished job looked awful! The stitches can only be described as "Frankenstein" stitches and the fabric had pull marks all over it. I requested that he fix it, which he did...in a way. The stitches are still bad and it REEKS OF CIGARETTE SMOKE!!!! (I'm not judging that he smokes, but at least he needs to do it away from the product he's working on) Completely unprofessional. read more

This is pretty much a hole in the wall Shoe Repair place in Studio City. Been there only once and had an extra hole punched in my belt. Can't attest to anything else or any other services. A) The guy, Niko, was very dirty. His hands scared me, to the point, i was afraid to hand over my belt in fear he would pass his hand oil and dirt on to it. B) His tools were a bit unconventional in terms of making a hole in my belt. Granted, the belt was unique in its double hole design, but weird still. C) The reason I give this place 4 stars is because he did it for free! read more

While we are taught from childhood about the importance of clean hands, let's keep it in perspective. Niko works with shoes, leather, dyes, and polish. He's fixing shoes and such, not preparing lunch. I come here because I need shoes repaired and Niko does a pretty good job. Blown stitches, rounded heels, and worn soles are replaced quickly and inexpensively. My only reservation is that he consistently doesn't burnish the edges on new soles. They come back with a roughed-up texture... to be fair, I never mentioned it to him. If you need a hand-finished edge on your soles, you might want to ask in advance. If you don't care about rough edges, Niko's is solid recommendation. If you are looking for that perfect finish, better to discuss it ahead of time. Another funny thing is that shoes are never "done" when I have come for pickup...he likes to put a final polish and buff with you there to see in person. Nice touch, but sometimes, I'm in a hurry. Also, he can make accessories-- I have seen belts and wallets made from leather, reptile, etc. Plus, who doesn't love free Russian candy? read more

There is some serious looking machinery behind the counter so I trust the repairs are solid and respectable too. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS!! I took in two pair of new shoes to have stretched and a 10 year old Prada suede purse to have a small tear on the strap fixed. Dropped off on Thursday 2/13 and was told to pick up the following Tuesday. When I went in to pick up, I had to point the shoes out to him even though I had the green slip in hand that he gave me. (Extremely disorganized!) I tried the shoes on and nothing was different, I don't believe they'd been touched since drop off. I asked him to stretch them out more. He told me to return the next day. He also said my purse wasn't there because he sent it to be cleaned. Very weird considering when I dropped everything off we discussed cleaning and I told him I would pass, also, I didn't pay the extra $30 he wanted for cleaning. I return once again 2 days later, the shoes are now stretched out but he still doesn't have the purse. He pleads with me (like a child) to return tomorrow and he will have it. I have now been back twice more since that and he has an excuse each time. Now he tells me it's in his car that his son had to drive to work and once again pleads (like a child) for me to return tomorrow. This is now almost 4 weeks!! I knew, when he tried to return the shoes to me and they'd been untouched, that I personally would not use this business again but I wouldn't have yelped to share that. However, now that I've essentially 'paid him' to steal my purse, I feel obligated to share with people not to trust this man or business!! Also, the place smells so bad it was hard to stomach being inside for longer than 30 seconds. DO NOT TRUST THIS GUY! I can't believe he has any 5 star reviews, maybe if you need an extra hole in your belt, shoe shine or to buy laces. If you need real work and someone you can trust to return your items, this is not the place. Period! read more

Let me say first, I know you are wondering, when would a crow have the occasion to wear shoes. Don't judge and remember crows love to collect things! Now about the shoe repair dude. This is not the original Niko. Niko sold his shop to this guy who is there with the shoe polish all over his hands. I like black shoe polish, makes me feel at home. Reminds me of my shimmery black feathers...Cawwww, sorry I have digressed. I really do have to say 99% of the time he fixes shoes perfectly, on time and for a great price. He used to be much cheaper, then a family member got involved _( might be his son, he would show up to help organize, helped modernized the new product displays in the shop) and then he raised his prices. But frankly I am glad. I felt uncomfortable paying so little before. He would do a lot of work and charge $5 or free! -(that was not right) You must hang on to your tag, he is a bit scatterbrained at times. There is almost no hope to find your shoes or item if you forget your tag. And destroy your tag after pick up, if you forget what it was for, he won't have a clue either. Now once I did lose the tag, and he did find the shoes , but barely! Also it's best to go when there isn't a time crunch. I leave the shoes there for weeks, so plan ahead. He can get stuff done sooner, usually 1 week. It's a long ways away from my nest so I try to group errands together. It is a hole in the wall, he is a bit lumbering, and doesn't communicate very well. and he offers you little candies. He means well, and I bring him all my stuff, and I've been flying there since the original Niko was there. He tolerates me flying around his shop, but I poop outside, so no worries. I won't poop on your shoes. There are places closer to me but I trust this guy. I do have to get his real name, I'm pretty sure he is not Niko Jr. And one more thing about his ways, he is a really gentle soul, and his dirty hands have no negative impact on the awesome job he does on the shoes. He clearly loves his craft and your shoes will be shined & cleaned to near perfection. Can't tell you how many of my shoes he has brought back to life. I treat all of my shoes like they are my children and I freaked out when a pair of Satin heels and a pair or red suede heels got dirty from a Vegas weekend...I tried about three different repair shops and they all turned me away saying there was nothing I could do. I got referred here from a dry cleaning shop and Niko said "EASY!" He had them ready the next day....they looked exactly as they did when I bought them. Wow I honestly am having a hard time finding words to describe my experience. If you want to actually get your shoes repaired take them elsewhere. I first dropped off earmuffs to be repaired. I work in Canada often so they are necessary. Well I never got to wear them this winter because every time I went to pick them up they were NEVER ready. He kept saying tomorrow. My schedule is crazy hectic as I'm on the road almost 50% of the time so it's very inconvenient to keep stopping by. My mistake I believed him and left a boot to be repaired. I just took the boot back because even though he PROMISED it would be done it wasn't. All in all over the course of probably 5 months (for one pair of earmuffs and a boot zipper repair) I stopped by his shop 15+ times. I always got an excuse. I can't even tell you if he's a good cobbler because I never was able to get my shoe repaired. Save yourself some time and energy and just go somewhere else. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

I really liked this place. The guy (need to get his name, as I heard he is not the original owner - Niko) is very kind and skillful. Haven't brought shoes here yet, but other things like belts that needed an extra hole or my dog's broken leather leash and his chain collar to remove a few links. He has always done a great job! And last time, I didn't have cash on me and forgot he didn't take credit cards. He let me pick up my stuff without paying and trusted me to return after the Holiday to pay!!! Guess what? I will update this if Niko surprises me on Saturday with my shoes. I brought my shoes to him over a week ago. First, he seemed to bothered to stop watching sex and the city and see what I needed. I was the only person in the shop. When he finally did meander over, I explained I needed a strap fixed and the little rubber sole glued back on the tips of my shoes as I have a tendency to drag my feet and kick things. He said they couldn't be glued back on but had to be replaced. Fine- they are my absolute favorite shoes- and ladies...you know how hard it is to find SEXY and COMFY shoes??? $29 bucks he tells me- and then writes strap and new soles on his portion of the ticket and tells me to come back in 1 week. I show up 1 week later as I needed the shoes for tonight. Again I'm standing in an empty shop just waiting for Niko to stop watching tv and see what I need. He can't find my shoes. He keeps searching. My shoes are still on the counter where he initially put them- UNFIXED. He asks me- what needed to be done again- even though I see the yellow ticket on the shoe that says- strap/new soles. I explain it again. He says- come back Saturday. Come tomorrow if my shoes are fixed- maybe I'll update this review. But really, I think tomorrow when I pick up my shoes- if they are ready- I'll drag any other shoes I need to have repaired/cleaned to elsewhere. Can I just say one thing- to the people who are complaining about Niko's hands? The dude works with shoes- dyes, stains, polishes...give him a break. Also, I wanted to pay cash, because it was super cheap, but I couldn't find my extra dollar. He told me he would forget the dollar on one condition: I had to try a Russian chocolate. Awww, nice man. They were really nice here. The first time I came in I need to get my shoes shined for in interview. I was in and out in 10 minutes. They look great! My next trip in was for a boot the squeaked when I walked. It was annoying and kinda funny. He looked at boot and sent me off with some leather softener that worked great. Such a simple fix for a strange problem. I take this as them being knowledgeable about their profession. I will return here for any more shoe needs. read more

This guy is a find! He is good, reasonable, and fast. I had him take in some boots (I've got skinny legs) and his work was undetectable and the boots fit great. He's also done soles and heels just perfectly, and throws in a shoe-shine. Easy parking, opens really early in the a.m., free Russian candy. So what if he's dirty and has bad fingernails? If I could put no star I would. I was told he was great so I brought my boot with a broken zipper and he charged $30. When I picked it up I went home and put it on and the zipper broke right away. So I brought it back and he started to lie and say "that's not the side I fixed" and I proved it was since he added a leather strap so he said "okay pick it up next weekend". I went on Monday and he said "I told you to pick it up on Tuesday" instead of just saying I'm sorry I didn't finish it yet can you come back tomorrow. So I did and when I picked it up sure enough I went to wear them and it broke again I brought it back and I said this is really inconvenient I like in Hollywood hills and he said "so I live in Armenia" and proceeded to say "it's probably my foot". As a shoe repair you should solve the problem of its my foot. He attempted to fix it again and instead of actually redoing the zipper he tried to glue the bottom. And never changed the broken zipper. I am never going to go back. He has horrible costumer service. read more

Even when he gives you a green slip to claim your shoes, it takes him awhile to figure out where he placed them or where to find them. Also, the bow I left with him that needed to be sown back on my shoe disappeared and replaced with his own version of a bow...? What a disappointment that the bows on my shoes don't match anymore. :( WORKMANSHIP: I took a brand new pair of boots to him in the beginning of fall to take the calves in and it took him about 12-15 visits to complete and each time the boots looking more horrible than the previous time I've seen them.... When I inspected the shoe, they were quite dusty and full of messy, blotchy strings of glue all over the place!! NOT COOL!!!! I haven't even worn these shoes yet and they were straight out of the box. :'( DISHONEST: I hope he doesn't think I'm stupid to believe he didn't change the fabric on the top of my boots! In the direct sunlight, it looks completely different, so how can I wear them now? Also, I brought in a pair of heels where the sole was coming undone in the front lip and just needed a bit of shoe glue to mend... He bent the shoe in half and said, the soles needs to be replaced after he broke the shoe into two pieces!!! WTF?! Yes, now it needs to replaced, but not before you broke it in half!?!? One more thing... there was black ink/dye/polish that spilled or dropped on a pair of my silver shoes and he said he didn't do it! Customer service lacking in the extreme. I took a pair of shoes in to have the heels replaced. The clerk told me the shoes would be ready on Friday (3 days after dropping them off). I got around to picking them up a couple weeks later, yet the shoes hadn't been touched since I dropped them off. The clerk fixed the shoes while I was in the store, which involved me waiting around for 30 min. He didn't tell me how long it would be so about 10 min into the process, I asked how much longer it was going take. The whole experience was annoying, and the color of the replacement heel doesn't match the shoe. It doesn't look awful...it was just adding insult to injury. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP! I had a terrible experience here. I took my sandals there to fix one of the straps that came off. He fixed it and it came off the first ten minutes I wore the sandals again. I took it back to re-fix and he just butchered my sandals. The sewing was all off and a bunch of threads came off on both shoes. My shoes looked terrible. I don't know if I can wear them again. When I told him the sewing was all off, he just shook his head, basically saying there is nothing to be done. Worst service ever! Not worth it, even though the price seems good! Niko is, simply put, a magician with shoes. My feet fall outside of the normal range of most shoe lines, so I am always bringing him pairs to be adapted to fit my feet, or beloved shoes that are in need of some TLC. Niko knows his stuff and it shows. He's even managed to fix problems that other shoe repair places told me were impossible to do. His prices are extremely reasonable, and he usually has a quick turnaround time. Niko himself always reminds me of a big teddy bear. He is usually scruffy and dirty, as John K. noted, but I think that is just because of working with tools and shoe polish all day (this is an old-school one-man operation). Also, his English isn't the best, but he never seems to have a problem communicating when it comes to the work that needs to be done. Be prepared to pay with cash or check because he isn't set up for credit/debit cards. Oh, and be prepared for him to give you candy...whether you want it or not. Just say thanks and take it.
