How you treat people who can do nothing for you is a direct reflection on how you feel about yourself. The owners here/management/supervisors or whoever I witnessed yelling at a employee in front of me and others made me feel sooo disgustingly uncomfortable and was so entirely unacceptable. He could have burned the place down and A normal decent human being would not have spoke to him this way. I couldn't believe it was happening. Respect is a must for me in all situations. Go here if you want to witness employees being berated and scolded in front of you, especially when it's not even a big deal. I hope the management here (I mean I really should Not even call the managers managers since they obviously don't know how to lead more than a five year old) see this review and take note that disrespect is not okay and courtesy with consideration and some effective communication can engage an employee to do better and not set yourself up for a disgruntled employee, one star yelp review, and a customer who won't be returning back. RESPECT- I hope the the management team here takes a second to read this review and realize that under no circumstance is this okay. This was also disrespectful to me as a customer. Guys....I never review but this was just worth warning you all about. I ordered a chicken shawarma and a falafel shawarma. What I got was two chicken shawarmas that were completely raw. I bit into one and almost puked. The sauce and bread also tasted old. I threw both out immediately and called the restaurant. The man that picked the phone up initially said sorry and that he'd make me a new one. When I told him I just wanted my money back he told me to call the company. I told him he could come grab my raw shawarmas if he wanted but I shouldn't have to pay for them. He then told me to fuck off! Anyway don't order from here! read more

Ahmed is truly the best! I have not been here in a very long time but I may say I do miss this place! I use to come here and play dominos and smoke hookah all night long. Great atmosphere. This place is indeed open, so don't let the "closed" fool you. Thisplace has gotten a serious upgrade from its previous state and is now pretty lit! They can fit much more people and the ambiance is much better. They even have a deal where if you buy 10 hookahs you get one free, which is great because I'm a regular customer. If there was an option for zero stars.. That is what I would give... When my friend and I were picking hookah flavors the guys helping us would say they were bad... Then when I ordered a sandwich (was told the owner had to be asked) I waited 10-15 minutes and asked about it... I told the guy I was feeling really hungry and he said "I'm hungry too" (like I didn't matter).. The guy then had to ask the owner (who was still socializing) again for my sandwich... After the food had come to out table, no one came around again to ask how everything was (the hooka became strong and no one came to change it).I had to walk up to the guy and tell him i was ready to pay. It arrived in an unrealistically fast fashion for what should be grilled Middle Eastern food -- which was our first clue that it was microwaved c%$#--and it had every hallmark of microwaved food--chewy and flavorless. But it gets worse--not only did they get one of the items in our order wrong (I ordered chicken kabobs and I got two ground beef-thing kefta kabobs instead which I do not like and could not eat), but our falafel order was missing. Perhaps this was a good thing because what we did receive was so disgusting that my husband actually threw his order down the garbage disposal after eating one bite. Stopped in around 1:00AM and I swear it was like rolling up to a deserted open air coffee shop straight out of Egypt. Nile Cafe is a hookah lounge cafe that also serves coffee, food, juices, and tea. Don't get your hopes up too high because the coffee isn't arabic. They have options for cappuccinos, espresso, and drip coffee. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is close to the parking lot though so I'd imagine during the day it'd be a little less appealing. But great for people watching! I ordered the falafel sandwich and tea with mint. Total $7.00. It was wrapped in Syrian flatbread and there was hummus inside of it. My friend ordered beef shawarma but was served beef kofta. Hmm... All of this confused me but then I remembered American appropriation of culture and figured the owner probably felt that no one would tell the difference. On a similar note, the owner is Egyptian and very kind. When I asked him why my friend was served incorrectly he apologized and said the next sandwich would be on him. The staff are Long Beach locals. The clientele tends to be older middle eastern men gathered for backgammon, cards, hookah--and yes--gossip! Bottom Line: If you wan authentic Egyptian tea and hookah this is a great place. Especially if it's important to you that it's open late! It's open until 4AM! If you want authentic Egyptian food, this isn't the best place. Go to smoke, not to eat. read more

Hookah is weak, service is horrible, food is bleh. It is cheap ($10 for hookah, $5 for falafel sandwiches) which is awesome but you're getting what you pay for. People came here, looked around, and just left. I think this place seems to attract a very specific audience and you have to come here with very low expectations. It just is a very unprofessional establishment. I am absolutely shocked at the high ratings for this place. When I came last week I literally smoked in the parking lot. They had some buffet thing inside so everyone smoked outside. Which was very weird because it was 10:00pm so I don't see who would go to get a buffet at that hour. The staff will literally sit there and smoke next to you and kind of interact. I'm a very friendly person but this was straight up weird. The staff are too busy hanging and smoking that they don't even replace the coals often enough. And no matter what they did the hookah was very weak. Big waste of time and money. ok, so I was very very skeptical at this joint.....my friends found this place on accident and after multiple times of hearing them tell me I needed to try it I finally got myself to drive 20 plus miles for the $10.00 hookah. lol I started off with a mango drink (super sweet corn syrup filled drink) not my thing, I then had the chicken shwarma plate...it was tasteless needed something. The falafel sandwhich was dry dry dry!!! The hookah...ok im a regular smoker and I must admit the hookah was very good. I had the house special which was watermelon/peach...sweet and not harsh at all. I also got my hookah with an icetip which I never tried it was great. They don't use the best coals but what do you expect for $10. I came here with two girlfriend around 7 o'clock and realized we'd come MUCH too early. We were the only ones there! But the owner, a super funny Egyptian guy (I think) was more than hospitable. I had a sandwich, although I can't remember the name of it, and it was SOOOO GOOD. My friends had hot chocolate and tea. We smoked two bowls of hookah, which lasted us three hours! We got out of this place after spending only $30, or ten bucks a piece. The ambiance was nice and it started to get busy around nine. We will definitely be back! read more

I have never been to a hookah bar with no hipsters. Yet, here I was at the Nile Cafe in Long Beach. I guess the place is interesting, the people working here were nice enough, and they had many hookahs set up. I think that must be the primary thrust of this cafe, because the falafels we had here were not very good. They were kind of bad to be honest, they were too dry, they didn't really have any toppings, i don't think there was any tahini, or anything. It was extremely underwhelming in terms of food, and the inside was kind of gross. The only people eating inside were people who already worked at the place, or were somehow related. This place is probably the best hookah place in the area. The bossman is very nice and the employees, Robert and Aaron, are very nice and personable as well. The guys tend to be very on top of going around and doing coals and the food here is delicious! Since I am a vegetarian I only get the pita and hummus (which is DELICIOUS) but all my friends rave about the beef schwarma's. Overall this place is nice for a someone that just want to chill and kick back at a hookah joint. I used to come here at least once a week it's been a few months since I've been back. Decided to drop by and smoke some hookah to clear my head. They got some new couches and the hookah was still pretty good the only problem I had with my hookah night was the girl over charged me, I got a fruit mix that used to cost me 10 dollars, the girl charged me 16. Other then that it's a great place the menu hasn't changed in the year I've been coming here. Will most likely be back when some of the other workers are there. read more

This place has gone downhill for me over the past year. They changed the seating so its not as private anymore and you end up seated with different groups and its compacted. The food is amazing but the service has gotten slower and slower. The owner is awesome but the staff sometimes takes 10-15 minutes before they take your order and the pricing has gone up from $10 to $15-20. The coals also die and they don't tend to notice for 10-15 minutes unless you ask them for coals. The chicken shawarma is still the best in the are I've found so ill keep coming back for that but the hookah has gone down, mainly since they changed the seating to accommodate large groups and not 1-4 people like they used to. read more

First time at this place. I'm a foodie and I basically love to eat and I enjoy good and quality foods from around the world. I don't have my expectations high, but when I'm craving something, I'd like to get somewhere in the neighborhood of what I ordered to satisfy my cravings. I ordered a beef and chicken shawarma to decide which one I like better. Now mind you, this is not the first time I eat Mediterranean food, I've been eating it all my life and I've tried it in Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, N.Y, Los Angeles, and all around the U.S. and in some other parts of the world. So you know when I say this, I'm not being mean nor am I saying this with no experience of the Mediterranean side of the house. Neither one of the wraps I ordered were anywhere near what I ordered. Looks like they've taken shortcuts and just pulled out some left over chicken pieces and left over meat chunks and put some spices on them and slap them in a pita bread and called them beef and chicken shawarmas. Not only they were not fresh, they were not even shawarma and above all they've charged $20.00 for the two wraps. Do yourself a favor, read all the other one star reviews before you go there. Place is small but it's nice a cozy. The hookah is really really good compared to another local hookah bar in the area. I actually got a bit light headed with this one...tried the food and it was actually really good! The manager was very attentive and friendly and really seemed to like us (have us free drinks!) Honestly some of the worst food I have ever had in my life. I made an account just so I could make this post. I ordered the beef shawarma sandwich through Postmates. The pita bread is was not fresh, it was undercooked and fell apart when I picked it up. The beef was under seasoned, over cooked, chewy and just all around horrible. The only other items in the sandwich were wilted lettuce and hummus that was really gritty and tasted like peanut butter. I tried to add hot sauce to it to see if it would mask the over all shitty ass sandwich but that did not work either. I ended up throwing it away because I could not handle how awful it was. read more

This place was not good. Dont really write yelp reviews, nor do i talk bad about people but this was a bad place. It was sketchy to begin with in some corner at a bussiness center. The food was ehhh, i liked the hummus and the fact that the guy brought some peta bread but the rice was bland. Not much astetics to the food, no veggies at all, that was dissapointing. What really made me dislike this place was the fact i ordered water and the guy brought me a water bottle . The resturant was also empty except for me and all i could hear is him talking in a foreign language to someone on the phone or outside. I dont care about the language barrier but its rude to talk in another language when you have customers who dont know what you are saying.
