This was my first time eating Nigerian food--I loved! We ate in and had egusi with beef and fufu and coconut rice with plantains and fish. The egusi was amazing and the fufu ball was perfect consistency, light and moist, a wonderful cloud to accompany your egusi. The egusi was my favorite, but the rice, fish and plantains were good too. There are plenty of tables, seating and parking. I loved the small but private parking lot. There is pretty are on the walls and a TV playing if you want entertainment. The ambiance is peaceful and tasteful. Service was kind and friendly. There was a man who was very helpful and considerate of our lack of knowledge. He made recommendations and we asked for low spice--and the spice level was perfect in the egusi! The egusi had just enough spice for flavor but not too much to ruin out meal for us (spice wimps!). We are thankful. This weekend we were just passing Long Beach, but we will definitely return again, looking forward to more Nigerian food - worth the trip just for the food. This was our first time trying Nigerian food, and first time at Omalicious/Sumputous. We ordered the beef egusi with fufu and combo with coconut rice plantains and fish. Both super delicious we cleaned our egusi plate clean!! Very generous portions and service was really great. They were very nice! We loved the food so much we ordered okra soup (made to order fresh) and another egusi to-go but we decided to try with the goat meat. Normally we aren't goat meat people but we're down to try it! Prefacing this review by saying I am not Nigerian, but I have friends who are and have been very curious to try Nigerian cuisine. Another side note.. I don't do spicy food. I'm a wuss! Having said that, I was really excited to try this. What I wasn't expecting was for it to be small and styled like a cafeteria. This is located in a small strip mall. There was parking, since we came in on a Wednesday. I think that the bulk of their orders are placed online or over the phone and picked up because we were the only ones dining here. Onto what we tried- a little bit of everything! Egusi soup with fufu, jollof rice, coconut rice, goat, mixed meat and chicken. The food was tasty but dry. I'm not sure if it was because it sat for a bit. I thought that it would be prepared at order, but it was already ready and under heat lamps. Delicious, Authentic, and like it's name, SUMPTUOUS food! It's all about the connection for me. As a foundationally born and bred African-American, it is important to me that the food of my people is recognized, highlighted, and understood by all those who partake in the foods heavenly and purposeful healing on consumers. You must understand respect its origins, its development, and its continued impact on this country's very fabric and creation of culinary arts and the effort that went into it surviving the at time crushing mechanisms of a racist society. It takes work to be an and stay great! With that, the Nigerian cuisine served at this spot is a perfect representation of the parent food of my beloved soul food. It took me it took on a journey, rewinding and erasing all of the trauma, pain, and strife that has been running through the veins (and still is) of every Black person on this continent. It took me back to a HOME of Kings and Queens, Mathematicians, Scientists, and Holy spaces. Back to the beginning of life and humanity, layered cultures that still met in the middle and understood the truth and knew that God is real. The food made me remember me before American. This food is a history lesson of our presence never disappearing. From the fufu to the greens and mixed meat, the jolof rice and plantains, I was still home and I was so happy that I cried. The egusi soup was very well seasoned and one of my favorites of our meal, but as an okra lover I have to say the okro soup was my favorite. The rices were also super flavorful. I do wish the mixed meats were more tender, but that along with the chicken were okay. I really enjoyed the fish and was a huge fan of the goat - not too gamey. SERVICE We had an amazing experience with their service. They asked if it was our first time and they gave us great recommendations, especially when it came to serving size. They came back to check on us to see how we liked it, and were so friendly and welcoming. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. I ordered the stew beef with Jollof rice and Suya, and everything was absolutely delicious. The food was incredibly well seasoned, the meat was tender, and every bite was packed with flavor. You can really tell the dishes are made with care and authenticity. I usually have to drive all the way to Los Angeles to find good Nigerian food, so I was honestly surprised and excited to discover such a great Nigerian restaurant right here in Long Beach. I placed an order on DoorDash for pickup in the morning before they opened, and it was ready about 30 min after opening. The fufu combo was $26, and the fried plantain was $3. I was asked to show my order confirmation. The food was ready and still warm when I walked in. Only one other family was eating there, so I was helped quickly. This was only my second time ever having Nigerian food, so I don't have much to compare to, but I was excited to try Sumptuous in Long Beach since Nigerian food is so hard to come by. The interior was quite clean and new, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the egusi and fufu combo, with fish as my choice of protein. There were also some dishes at the counter, including a dish with tripe and cow's foot that looked yummy. After a short wait, my food came out on disposable ware. I actually thought the portion was decent, and prices not cheap but in line with everything nowadays, $22 + tax. The food was rich and tasty. I feel like the egusi texture is a mix between egg, tofu, and a soft cheese. The fish was a bit fishy, but came with two large slices (bone-in) and was crispy + flavorful. Definitely recommend coming if you are in the mood for something different! P.S. I didn't notice it in time and ended up parking on the street, but I believe there is a small parking lot that you can access to the right of the restaurant, facing the entrance. read more

I was in town from Massachusetts where we have a healthy Nigerian community and good Nigerian food available. I took a chance ordering from this place and was not disappointed! The food was delicious! Another friend who's been in the US for just over a year now said this is the best Nigerian food they've had since being here. The white soup/Naala was amazing! Workers are friendly enough... I guess. But usually that means the food is going to be great. Unfortunately, wrong. Came because I had a craving, but the food was not flavorful at all. I had to add my own salt, garlic powder, and a few other things. Didn't think I'd be back, but I stopped in to get some fufu by itself, as the menu shows fufu as a side, but they would not sell it to me without the soup. I figured any business is good since I questioned if this place was even open still, especially with something as simple as fufu, but nope. They didn't want to hear it either. OK, so because my car was in the shop, my boyfriend and I decided to take a walk last night to get some food. I suggested this location, as I am an African woman and I love African food. We arrived at 8 PM, they close at 9 PM. Is was a cute little spot on Atlantic with greens and yellows coloring around. The service was not what I expected at all. I ordered the Fufu/Egusi combo; I had more to add, but the host, a young African woman taking my order walked away to the kitchen, so I stood there waiting to tell her what else I wanted. I haven't even paid yet, why would she leave? She began fixing plates in front of us, but it was not our food. It was actually her own to take home. (She was chuckling about it with an employee) The customer should always come first, which was the first sign of bad service. She came back about six minutes later, and I told her I wanted to add Chinchin, and plantains. She cut her eyes at me with attitude, like it was too much and walked away and then shortly turn around and says "anything else???" with attitude. My boyfriend looked at me and said what's her problem? I shrugged my shoulders. We waited an extra eight minutes for them to get the plantains ready. She returned and placed my items in a bag, and I said thank you, which was followed by NO RESPONSE. My boyfriend and I are very displeased with that type of attitude and service. When I got home, I was even more disappointed to see the plantain I ordered and waited on was not ripe and and was overcooked. It was very hard and rubbery. The Egusi and fufu was pretty good flavor, BUT my chicken inside of it was overcooked and dry. (I probably would've asked for spicy Egusi if I had the option.) As an African American woman (Sierra Leonian), I always want to support businesses of color, especially African business, but I get let down half the time. In California, most cultural food companies are Hispanic and Asian cultured, so for this African restaurant to come and try to make a name for themselves and try to GAIN customers, you're doing a bad job. YOU SHOULD NEVER TREAT PAYING CUSTOMERS WITH BLATANT DISRESPECT AND ATTITUDE. Treat people with respect and gain more business. I won't be returning. read more
