I'll be honest--I hate going to the dentist. Always have. But my daughter referred me to Dr. Nina Kiani, and I'm so glad she did. From the moment I walked in, I felt at ease. Carmen, who runs the front office, is an absolute gem--always pleasant, professional, and kind. She truly sets the tone for the whole experience. The rest of the staff is just as wonderful--welcoming, patient, and attentive. Dr. Kiani is gentle, thorough, and takes the time to explain everything in a way that actually makes sense. If you enjoy spending two hours at the dentist for a basic cleaning and getting aggressively upsold the entire time, this is the office for you. I had an appointment at 11:05, arrived on time, and wasn't even taken back to a chair until 12:05--with no explanation for the delay. After the cleaning, they forced me into another Invisalign scan--despite the fact that I've told them at every visit that I'm not interested. Then came the predictable upsell: fifteen minutes pushing cosmetic procedures disguised as "essential" for my dental health. Maybe if the office focused less on sales tactics and more on actual patient care and communication, they wouldn't be running an hour behind schedule. read more

I got evaluated by a legit dentist and turns out I didn't need that! Also didn't need the 6 cavities she said I needed to get done! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this practice. I was extremely terrified of the pain and discomfort Associated with dental work. I was so scared that I avoided the dentist until I had no choice to go. at first, I needed meds to help with anxiety. However, Dr. Kiani and her fantastic staff totally reversed all of my fears. They explain everything in detail. They call you to reassure you about what's going to happen. When you're in the office everyone is so calm and warm. They work with you and go at your pace. The doctors are not rough, they're so gentle when they're doing procedures. I just had a root canal and I was so surprised when it was over. It was a breeze! I went through the Invisalign treatment throughout Covid-19 and the staff, office and Dr Kiani could not have been more professional and helpful as well as extremely safe. I just finished up with my Invisalign and the process could not have been more simple. Please do not go to Dr. Kiani. I was a patient of Dr. Kiani's for about 3 years and had gotten many services done-- fillings, root canal, crowns.. I have always taken very good care of my teeth, but unfortunately have soft teeth that are prone to problems. I stopped seeing Dr. Kiani when I moved from New York and went to the Tufts Dental School and became a patient there. They were shocked after seeing my initial x-rays. Just to name a few of many big problems they discovered: - Root canals were not finished complete with proper post construction - Brittle material was used for fillings that are not adequate for molars (which resulted in more fillings, and more tooth loss) - Crowns were made with faulty contact to my teeth and gum, which caused further decay underneath (and led to a future root canal) After this shocking and upsetting appointment at Tufts, I went to another dentist for an additional opinion, and they had an even more extreme reaction to the work done echoing all of the above, but also asking if I had gotten my work done somewhere outside of the US in a more "affordable country." I have since then spent tens of thousands of dollars on my teeth due to the terrible job done by Dr. Kiani, all the effected teeth being only the teeth she treated. I had contacted her office at one point with x-rays in hand asking for some kind of refund, and they rudely refused and did not seem surprised or concerned at all. I will say the staff was generally friendly when I was a patient, and there was no problem with any of the people I ran into at the practice-- but the job they do is just not acceptable. Seven years later I am dealing with the repercussions of seeing Dr. Kiani. It's been a very difficult, painful, and frustrating thing to go through. Be very wary of dental work that they are telling you to get!! My teeth are not perfect and I know that, but I was told that I needed 3-4 root canals, crowns, posts, orthodontic work for a slight open bite, and a wisdom tooth removal. Take in mind I have ZERO discomfort/pain, and told them this. Upon being told all of this dental work would cost thousands of dollars WITH insurance, I informed them that there was no way I would be able to pay for that and that I would take care of it when it was uncomfortable/painful/if I ever have money. They gave me payment plans which were all still above my budget, and I wound up having to block their number because they called so frequently trying to get me in. I'm sure this was done out of concern for my dental health, but it felt very much like hounding for money they knew I didn't have. Today, I went to a different dentist to get a second opinion and upon examining my teeth, he said all I needed was one filling (maybe) and was FLOORED that I was told I needed so much work done. Long story short, GET A SECOND OPINION. This office made me so worried/anxious about my teeth that I was afraid to go to the dentist for months and it wound up being basically nothing. read more

I was first recommended to Dr. Kiani by a former employee. I started off with cleaning and whitening and then was suggested I do Invisalign. At first I was skeptical but it was the best decision I made. I had a bad overbite and tiny gaps in my teeth but with Invisalign it straightened my teeth and has them looking even better than before. Strange practice indeed! Dedicated patient in spite of many misgivings concerning the treatment I needed vs what I received. Missed one appointment due to an unavoidable family emergency and received a dismissal letter. Patient for 3-4 years. The office seems to max out your annual insurance benefit after one visit and then you're held captive to continue to see them to complete their work - paying out of pocket. Good riddance. After another good experience with my new dentist I had to post this..... I went to this office for close to a decade, originally due to it being minutes from an old office and a few former coworkers had been patients. Dr. Kiani is really nice, seems to know her stuff (what would I know if she did or not), and the staff is friendly. That being said, over the past 10 years I only had 2 or 3 cleanings where they found nothing wrong. Either I was told to buy some procedure that would help me avoid gum disease (I didn't), or I had to buy a bite plate to stop grinding for $300 ( I did), or a filling had to be redone. Eventually I asked what was wrong that they had to replace a filling they were responsible for a year later, and why do I have to pay for it...."because you grind" - which was the go-to answer. Even then, aren't the fillings built to hold up? Considering they're in your mouth and responsible for mashing food, chewing gum, hard candies, etc etc...you'd think they would hold up at least a few years from grinding. (To be fair, I must point out that the last couple of years I saw Dr. Kiani 2, maybe 3 times and one of her partners (the bald guy) did most of the diagnosing). My last visit I was told that I had to get a filling on the side of one of my teeth....it wasn't a cavity, but they were concerned that it could form into something worse. Whatever that was, I couldn't get an explanation. I made the appt and by the time I was off the elevator I decided that I wasn't going back. I found a new dentist. After my first cleaning, all went well. She didn't point out any of the "problems" that Kiani's office did. When I mentioned to her what they had told me at my most recent appointment and over the years, she didn't know whether to laugh or be embarrassed for he profession. Pardon the hyperbole, but this office is more or less a bunch of crooks that perform unnecessary procedures, without caring that they are taking your money and your time. read more

I've been going to Dr. Nina Kiani for what seems like a decade now. I feel like I owe her a glowing review for her response to this Covid-19 crisis, along with being just a pretty amazing dentist. I recently had to go in for an emergency procedure and the amount of safety precautions she put in place in the office made me feel very safe and a little relieved for her and her team's well-being. Temperature checks, contactless payments, newly installed glass barriers, hand sanitizer everywhere and no shortage of PPE for the limited staff in the office. That's a bit sad because everyone on her team is always professional, sincere and nice even if you're terrified about whatever actual dental work you have to do that day. Over the years she's gotten my teeth healthy again and I'm now doing Invisalign. I definitely didn't have the straightest teeth and I can't believe the progress we've made. For the first time in years I want to smile more, even now. I honestly can't wait until this all goes back to normal, but it's nice to see that there's an office equipped to deal with a situation where you have to open your mouth... without a mask. read more

From the friendly staff that goes out of their way to make sure your comfortable and up to speed with insurance coverage etc, to the dilligent hygienists always ready to share tips and provide thorough cleanings, this place is great. I do not know the Dental Assistants name, but she is always thorough and helps answering any questions. I'm not understanding the two negative reviews here. Everyone in this office is great! I've been coming here for five years since my sister recommended them to me (this was our childhood dentist's office) and have never had a problem. I always set up my appointments during my lunch hours so I never have to wait. I think the longest time I've ever waited to be called was 10 minutes. Lauren is the dental hygienist and I hope she never moves like she said she eventually would. She's the one who introduced me to electric toothbrushes and I've never looked back to the regular toothbrushes again. Unlike my former dentist, she always explains what she's going to do first before she does it so I'm aware. Carmen is the sweetest. Any problems with your insurance, she'll take care of it the best she can. As soon as I come in, I always get such a greeting. One would think we were BFFs. (I jokingly considered us to be since I was there almost each week at some point.) Dr. Kiani is very sweet. She has never pushed any procedure on me if I didn't want it. One day my filling came out and she took me in the same day I called. I think I've had every major dental procedure done here and have met the other oral surgeons and they were both very nice as well. I recommend this place to anyone needing a new dentist! read more

She does the cleaning thoroughly, yet without pain. She's also an awesome person. + Rosa (Front Desk) - Superwoman. Possibly the only 'constant' at this dental office. She gets billing done correctly, without error, and offers flexible schedule. Carmen actually made more than a few mistakes with the bill, and they had to get fixed by Rosa several times. If it wasn't for her and how much my wife liked Rosa, I would have left Dr. Kiani's office a long time ago. Cons: - Spams (e-mails, texts) - Excess amount of x-rays - 20-40 minutes or so wait time from the time of appointment. - A lot of billing errors. - Quite a number of sales pitches. - Constant change with dentists and periodontists. - Even at request of a specific dentist/periodontist, I would get a different one. - Painful handling by some dentists/periodontists. - No on-site lab (which means weeks of wait plus multiple visits) - Unavailability of appointment for cavity which led to root canal. - Composite resin filling that fell out within a year. - Improper treatments (treatments that wouldn't last - bridge over implant) - Double taps (working on same area twice) read more

My first medical visit in NYC was here at my dentists office. I felt incredibly safe as they have thoroughly maintained a healthy clean environment with a commercial sized air filtration system right next to the patients chair. All personnel where head to toe coverings; including masks, goggles, face shields, and gloves. They continue to wipe down everything and check each patient upon entering the office. It's a comforting and refreshing environment to be in knowing they are taking the appropriate precautions necessary to protect themselves and the patients that come in. I came to Dr. Kiani for years until the day she suggested a temporary root canal over a crown. The coin dropped for me - for years, I was subjected to unnecessary procedures (and co-pays). I should have realized that when I would get a letter from them at the end of every year re my unused dental benefit. Luck has a twisted sense of humor, especially when it comes to me! So this morning, the subway train I was on had a sudden rough jolt, and me half asleep did not have speedy response to place my hands in front of my face as my teeth met the pole. I ended up chipping one of my maxillary lateral incisors. This was a minor emergency and I was lucky to be seen right away after explaining my situation. Thankfully the damage caused by my impact did not reach my dentin and so I felt no pain outside the tiny pinch of the needle for the numbing agent. Dr. Kim and Shahnoza had great bedside manner and exhibited fineness in their work. The procedure took about 20-25 minutes. The front desk was full of friendly faces, but per other comments, I was pitched things like future visits. Overall I was met with a warm atmosphere and a skilled dental team. I had been searching in vain for a dentist in NYC for several years. At the recommendation of a friend, I decided to try going to Dr. Kiani. I think I can easily say that I have found THE dentist for me for as long as I live in NYC. Making appointments has consistently been an easy process. Her staff and assistants are unfailingly friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to ensure that I am comfortable and at ease. The offices are clean and well-maintained. Her equipment is very up-to-date (in fact, her equipment surpasses that in almost every dental office I have been to). And Dr. Kiani herself is very calming, showing confidence and knowledge while remaining accommodating, empathetic, and friendly. I want to make it short in here. Their service quality really needs improvement. I'm an Asian who traveled to China from 2020 Jan 4th to Jan17th, and I was back in USA at the 2020 Jan 18th. At the time, under the influence of the virus outbreak, my company enforced me to do a 14-days self-quarantine which was understandable, then I was cleared and went my to office. Now, at today's date, 2020 March 12th, I'm posting this review in here, because today i was rejected by this office due to the reason that they worry I'm a disease carrier. If that's it, I would truly understand them however they really did a TERRIBLE customer service and this is the reason why this 1-star review is here, not for the rejection but for how they handle things. I did not get a notice in prior that they will reject people who "recently" travelled to China, and I had no idea what did they mean by "recent", 2 weeks? 1 month? 2 months? Half year?? Because I'm cleared for 2 months at this point, so their "recent"definition seems broader. I had no idea, then I spent 1 hour on the way to see them because I had an appointment and they didn't tell me about their new virus policy. In 3 minutes after i stepped into their office, I received a reply as following: due to the safety concerns of our staff, we have to decline you on this appointment, I'm sorry but do you understand? This is like a joke. Like I had nothing else to do in the Wednesday morning of 10:30 am but just to spend my time on traveling back and forth to receive a shut-out? Very very very unprofessional and inappropriate. AND THEN, they didn't even care to do some make up plans with me, for instance, reschedule another date in the future, or at least be kind to say maybe after a period of time when the corona virus things settle down, that I'm welcome to reach out to them again. Nothing. All the response I got was sorry we cant serve you, goodbye. Basically it was like suggesting I'd better never come back, they don't want any of mine business here, go get lost. Ridiculously rude, right? Anyway, that's all I'm gonna say. I believe they are not bad people and I believe they have qualify medical skills, but they need to have improvements lol, that's why other clinic have 4.0+ rating and this office only have 3.5. read more

I've become very frustrated with this dentist and will not be going back anymore. First, despite me always showing up on-time to my appointments I consistently have to wait for a long time to get my cleaning and check-up. I wouldn't complain if the wait is 5-10 minutes but I've had to wait more than 30 minutes on several occasions. I've voiced my displeasure over this and they really haven't given a damn. Second, every time I come here they try to take several x-rays of my mouth. I have never had a cavity or problems with my teeth so I started refusing these pesky x-rays. I don't feel like I should expose myself to repeated radiation without a good medical reason and the x-rays are very uncomfortable. It sure feels like they are just trying to ring up my insurance company's bill. I won't be back. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kiani for 12+ years off and on because there was a point my dental insurance wasn't accepted at her practice so I went elsewhere (several different dentists between Queens, Manhattan, and Long Island) and everytime no matter the procedure (simple cleaning or a filling) left much to be desired. It's hard to find a good dentist where the entire team is spectacular. The specialist that comes into her practice are wonderful as I am sure they are vetted by Dr. Kiani and never had any issues with any work. I have had so much dental work (thanks genetics) that I can honestly say that I vouch for all their services. The other best part about this practice is their admin staff. They actually break down your cost, do the leg work for insurance, and talk you through all out of pocket cost. Nobody is pushy with services or product. The most Dr. Kiani might tell you is I would recommend you do x,y,z and explain thoroughly and leave you to make your decision (I have sat on a root canal recommendation for about 7 years! Lol and I finally had no choice). Currently I am doing Invisalign with Dr. Kiani and I am so happy with my results. The dental hygienist Sara (Surish?) Is spectacular!! She's also very knowledgeable. Wow- Don't let this prime location, clean office, and quirky receptionists fool you. The moment I got in the chair for a cleaning I was being pushed pushed pushed, sold sold sold for all the things I need for my teeth. Hygienist kept pushing their orthodontics. I had orthodontics work for 18 years. My teeth are almost perfect. I have had one slight movement of one tooth because I don't wear a bottom retainer anymore, guess what, my choice, but they kept implying like I need to straighten them. Also when I said I have a mouth guard- custom made by my orthodontist, they doubted the quality and were pushing me to have a new one for $350+ When I am being sold immediately for cosmetic BS I lose trust and they lose credibility as an honest practice. I should have known not to go back for a cavity filling because go figure they quoted me that I need an entire root canal and post etc etc crown 900+ dollar quote WITH MY INSURANCE. They try to maximize the most out of your insurance with visits. I have never had a cavity in my life nor was in any pain! So the extreme diagnosis was a classic dentist scam. I sent my xrays to my family dentist back in California AND went to another dentist in Brooklyn who took new xrays and they BOTH said my tooth was fine with just the temp filling. The best part is when I doubted my diagnosis they tried to get me in the office TWO more times to meet with the Endodontist because they said they couldn't just finish the cavity with a perm filling without the Endodontist's input and that if the new diagnosis was just to complete it that they would need me to come in AGAIN. What a waste of time!!! Who has time to go to the dentist 4 times for just a cavity?? Best part is receiving their promo emails for a root canal. pfffffffffft as if a root canal is an option that you need to wait for a sale coupon with. I've been thinking about leaving this review for a while, but the email I got from this office today reminding me exactly how much money I have left to spend on dentistry this year based on my insurance policy really pushed me over the edge. While everyone at this office was perfectly nice (the women at the front desk are totally fantastic) and seemed to be fine dentists/hygienists (although like one yelper below, I question the quality of one of my fillings), I have NEVER experienced the kind of "up-sell" in medical services that I did at this office. After taking an endless number of x-rays and much quicker cleaning, I had 2 additional treatments pushed on me aggressively, and was forced to watch irritating promotional videos (one clearly produced by invisilign) so that I could understand just how NECESSARY they were to avoid all sorts of problems for the rest of my life. And then I was told I had an ungodly number of cavities. And of course, I was asked if I was interested in some other cosmetic treatments as well. While I know my teeth and gums are not perfect, I have never had another dentist even mention these "necessary" expensive dental procedures to me. The icing on the cake was at the end, when the receptionist tried to schedule me for all of my follow-up treatments, and I tried to hold back tears as she explained to me how much money it was all going to cost and how little of it my insurance would cover. I felt bad for her actually--she was very kind and just doing her job. Perhaps this practices genuinely believes that they are preventing dental disaster for folks like me, but I left feeling like they were only interested in getting paid. read more
