I love their perfect pistachio latte! It's my go-to drink whenever I go here. I would recommend that you do a 60 minute reservation rather than a 30 minute reservation. There is sometimes walk-in availability, but you never know when the cat cafe will be booked! I love that they partner with local rescues and shelters to spotlight adoptable cats and kittens! Make sure you put in an application quickly if you meet a cat that you would like to adopt. The cats and kittens (especially kittens) end up with adoptions pending quite quickly. 10AM-1PM all ages 1PM-3PM 13 years and up 5PM-CLOSE 18 years and up Make sure you book your reservation in a time that works for all ages of your reservation so that you are not disappointed. This was a great birthday treat from my daughter and granddaughter. Although it wasn't our first visit I think it was our best visit. All the kitties in their cat room were super friendly and loving. It was a very Zen experience. They also had the kitten room open on this visit and wow how special! They were friendly too and couldn't wait to visit with each new human and get some cuddles. This is a great way to have a drink and visit. Of course if you are shopping for a new fur baby you can complete some adoption papers while you're there. This is very popular over in Asia so to have one right here in fountain square is just what we needed! Definitely a great option for a date night, or play date. They have two rooms and usually keep the kitties away from the adults. Plenty of toys to interact with the cats. They also have a store front of art, plushies, jewelry and much more! I can't speak for the food or the drinks because we came here to see the cats! We brought a small group of special needs adults who were excited to see the cats. Some of the adults were too shy to go in and spend time with the cats so they sat outside in the cafe and watched through the big window while some of the others went in to visit with the cats. There are two rooms of cats. One room, the first room, has the kittens. And the second room has the slightly older cats. One of the staff comes in with you and can tell you all about the cats. I believe all if the cats are up for adoption. The cats are all very interested to see people and it's a great way to get them accustomed to being around people before they go to their forever homes. The adults loved it! One of our adults got the biggest kick out of the "boss cat" named "Squidward!" It was an adorable experience. read more

There are some forever cats that live there and the rest are a rotation of cats to be adopted. We were hoping there would be some kittens but there weren't any for our visit. As a college student more than four hours away from home, it's easy to miss certain aspects of life off campus. One area of my home life that I always miss are my pets: two tabby cats named Kitty and Jimmy. I would often enjoy getting home from high school and being able to play with them for a while before starting my homework. It's a simple aspect of my life that has been missing since arriving in Indianapolis. Therefore, when I learned the Nine Lives Cat Cafe in Fountain Square existed, I was fully on board to give it a try. My girlfriend and I attended the cafe in February of this year and my first impression of the building was how organized it was. To the left of the front door was the cafe itself with a merchandise area just beyond it. The waiting area was complete with some tables and a barstool wall where you could peer into the cat's domain while you enjoyed your food or drink. At the counter, you could also fill out the waiver at a convenient touchpad if you didn't want to pull up the link on your phone. To the right of the front door was the entrance to the cat area, which was smartly separated from the rest of the cafe. To not only prevent a kitten escaping the shop but also the spread of germs, there was a separate section of doors between the cat area and rest of the cafe (with hand sanitizer included). The cat area itself offered two rooms: one for kittens and one for older cats. This layout gave us plenty of cats to interact with throughout our 30-minute time frame. In addition to the main attraction, both my girlfriend and I tried some of their specialty iced lattes. The pistachio one had great flavor. Overall, the trip to the cat cafe helped me forget about all the responsibilities with school I had looming on my mind. Being able to hold and interact with cats while grabbing a morning coffee was a phenomenal experience I would recommend to anyone looking for a way to break up a constant morning routine. read more

Nine Lives was a great place to be on a day off. Me and some friends coordinated a day to meet up and adore some kittens and cats. Make sure to make a reservation before coming otherwise I don't think you can enter. It cost about $12. They have a cafe as you enter and then a separate room for the kittens and cats. They had a lot of kittens when we went and a lot of them were going to homes within the day or two, which is great! I didn't get anything from the cafe so I can't speak on the quality and taste but the rest of the experience was fun and I'm glad to have gone. read more

Nine Lives adapted this cool concept from Japanese culture where the store collaborates with local shelters to help families connect with the cats to find their forever homes. You can make a reservation online, over the phone or if you walk-in you can fill out the paperwork and wait for a spot to spend time with the cats. When you enter the space, it is divided by two rooms down the middle. The main entry has a viewing counter along with lots of local artists cat art on the wall and a café to order drinks. After paperwork has been filled out, you can enter the second room where the cats are located. You can spend about an hour playing and socializing with the cats. I only went to the store today to look at some art since I have a friends birthday coming up and wanted to get a cute cat portrait. They have a nice drink selection and I felt that the cats were well cared for and their wellbeing is highly considered. Make sure you make reservations! I didn't do my research on this place and just went on a whim after seeing a Tik-Tok. Luckily the nice lady running the show had a time slot for me and DS. We ordered a couple coffees and only waited 10 minutes to visit with the kitties. We were there in the evening and I think most of them were probably sick of people lol We had a great time though with the couple that were willing to tolerate us. Word to the wise: book your time in the cat lounge days in advance. I made plans to meet a friend here without realizing we had to schedule it ahead of time and we therefore weren't able to interact with the cats. It's a good problem though, as I'm glad that there's so much interest in playing with the cute kitties, which will hopefully lead to adoption. We had a good time though, drinking hot chocolate, chatting, and watching the cats run around through the glass. Nine Lives Cat Cafe partners with the Indy Humane Society, so the cats you see are all adoptable. You can head to their website to see the cats that are currently up for adoption. Separate from the cats is a cafe that offers lattes (try the lavender & honey!), matcha, loose leaf tea, espresso, chocolate milk, coffee and seasonal cold brews (caramel apple, pumpkin pie, and more right now). You can order ahead on their website. During COVID, masks are required, social distancing is enforced and the staff are sanitizing the cat area every hour. Loved this place from the moment I stepped inside! The walls are filled with art featuring cats in many forms which is oh so fitting and Polaroid upon Polaroid of pictures of cats that I assume have gone through the cafe and since been adopted which is the real marvel of this place! The majority of the cats inside of the viewing area are looking for homes. Until then, they are being socialized not only with the humans that go in and out but with other cats. Beyond finding their furever homes, there's really nothing better for them. The fees to play with cats are completely reasonable at $8 for a half an hour and $12 for an hour. These costs go towards taking care of the cats. Think things like litter, food, toys, cleaning, etc. I highly recommend an making an appointment ahead of time and especially if you're going on a weekend because spots did seem like they filled up. Don't go all the way there just to miss out because you didn't plan ahead. You also need to sign a waiver. Standard stuff since cats can be unpredictable. One of the cats settled on the lap of my companion and took a nice nap for almost 20 minutes. Great way to spend a half an hour really. Lol If you aren't feeling up to the cost, there is a bar with a viewing window so you can look in on the cats and their antics while sipping a latte or enjoying a muffin. I did just this before my appointment with the cats started. I believe their food is from the 4 Birds Bakery. The blueberry muffin was tasty but not the best I've had. The vanilla chai was amazing however! Gently sweet, light, and so warming. I have every intention of trying the vanilla spice chai the next time I go. They also sell a bunch of merchandise featuring the shop name and various cat related things. I believe some of the artwork was for sale as well. I was informed by my companion that the latte was really weak. Mostly milk and not enough espresso. Not a coffee lover's paradise by any means. The employees were all friendly and happily shared info about the store with us, even after I tried to dismember one of their plants when the coat rack took a dive (I am so sorry lol). Ask about the 75+ year old plant at the front of the store. Fun story if you're a plant lover. Parking can be tricky but there's a GoodWill catty corner and across the street to the store that has a decently large parking lot which is a great option if you're not feeling like parallel parking is for you. (I had to. ) From the funky cat themed artwork on the walls (and for sale!) to the delightful drink menu and special treats, this is a little shop I'm happy to visit. And that's not even talking about the actual cats! I still haven't spent dedicated time inside the cat room yet, but I enjoy that it even exists. One of these days... I tried the house blend tea today--Catnip or Catnap is the name... can't remember which the menu said. It's a blackberry mint tea with catnip in it. When they said that, I felt like I had to try it! I had mine as a tea latte with almond milk (medium size was about $5.50). I liked it (like 3ish star level). It was light, mainly tasting of the blackberry, and it did had the soothing vibe that they mentioned catnip has in humans. I'd like to try it iced eventually, but it probably won't be my first choice of tea here, so that may take me awhile. Regardless, it was a pleasant little late afternoon drink! Note on space: it's small inside and tables are limited. There wasn't much room to social distance from other tables and it did get busy for a bit. (Though most people went to the cat room after ordering their drinks, which helped!) Masks are currently required when you're not eating/drinking. I recently visited Nine Lives Cat Café with my daughter and her family. Adults were enjoying coffee in cat mugs, while children had colorful smoothies. Kittens and cats were mingling, playing, or napping in the various cat cubbies. I returned a few days later, had a delicious iced white mocha and Jojo, a 3 year old tortie, picked me. She had made her way from an overcrowded shelter, to a different shelter, to the Café, and is now in her furever home. Highly recommend the Café if you're in the mood for a hot beverage, a smoothie, yummy pastries, etc. and/or adorable felines. The cat paintings and gifts were impressive! Nine Lives Cat Cafe is a great experience and an incredible cause. There's two rooms: the cafe and the cat lounge. The cafe has your standard fares with a lot of cat art that is available for purchase. The real attraction is the cat lounge. Almost all of the cats in the lounge are available for adoption. They have one resident cat. The cat wrangler introduces you to all of them and gives you some tips about each cat. The cats were all very well behaved when we went. Some of them just wanted to cuddle whereas a few were more active looking to play. Either way, there is something cathartic about petting cats for an hour. For my girlfriend, the best part of the whole experience was seeing the joy on a girl's face when she was taking her adopted cat home. You could tell how excited she was to have her new cat and it's always great to see a pet get a new home. At the end of the day, that's what this place is all about. For roughly $10, you get an hour in the cat lounge and support their great mission. read more

Such a cool way to get cats adopted!!! You can do walk ins but if you want to insure your spot I'd RSVP online. We went at noon and most of the cats were sleeping, but there was two or three cats to fawn over which was nice. The employee in there was friendly and knowledgeable about each cat. The shop was pretty cute, although I feel like the $4 cookie was a bit much, but people usually like to mark up vegan stuff. It was a big hearty cookie though. I didn't taste much of it as i was sneaking it in between masked conversation, but i remember it had oats and was thick. It also had some kind of dried fruit but i can't really remember tasting it. They also had little stickers and those squishy cat belly things along with some merch. That's not why i came anyway though! The cat room was super cute with lots of fun toys and little places for cats to sleep. They had rules in place that were respectful of the cats autonomy and even have a designated hour around 1pm where children aren't allowed so the cats can rest peacefully. It's about $10 an hour for the cat room, $20 if you go at quiet time which is the kid free time. They have really interesting cat art all over the walls too that is for sale. Overall it's a really cozy place. They even brought our order out to use in the cat room. There's a cute string of little Polaroids of all the adopted out cats. I use to work as a cat comforter for a local shelter and it's really nice to see cats actually being relaxed and showing their personalities instead of scared and cramped as they usually are in shelters. read more

Do you love cats? Do you love coffee? Well, just found the perfect place!! Nine Lives Cat Cafe is a tiny little place in Fountain Square that is a cat lovers paradise. You walk into the Cafe and it's broken into two main spaces. The first is the beverage area and the second is the "Cat Room". You can order essentially any coffee beverage that you could think of as you wait for your allotted time in the cat room! When you enter the cat room, you are welcome to take your jackets and purses off to hang in the entryway. You then make your way through the double doors and get to hang out with all of the cats! The cats at the Cat Cafe are all up for adoption, so you have free reign to play and get to know the cats! When we went, there were around 12-15 cats in the cat room, around 7 of those being younger cats/kittens and around 6 of them being adult cats. We were in the cat room with four other individuals but there was more than enough space to social distance. I loved just sitting on the ground and letting the kittens zoom around me! It was so fun to watch them play with each other and with the various toys they had around the room. I was excited to see that one of the couples in the room with us decided to adopt a cat at the end of the session! Though there is a cost to reserve a time, all of the proceeds go towards the Cat Cafe! This place is great for a chill hangout with some cool felines, I will definitely be back again in the future! Pro-Tip: Reserve your cat room time online instead of walking in! During the mid-day, times are pretty open, but when people start getting off work the times really fill up. First time venturing down to Indianapolis, and of course it was for the cat cafe! Location: I'm not too familiar with the city, but it was quite a maze getting there via Maps. There was a parking lot behind the building, but none of the spaces seemed to be for Nine Lives. Fortunately it's a residentialish area, so I found some street parking. Food & Drink: I didn't have a sweet, but they looked pretty tasty! I did have a kitten-sized (love the sizes!) Cafe Meow, which was unique (to me) and delicious. I would like to note that for this cafe, your drink isn't included in your reservation fee. Cats: So cute! The kittens started off sleepy but got more playful as time went on, and even the adult kitties became interested in playtime! I'll definitely do a return visit if I'm ever in the Indy area again (yes, I did go specifically for the cafe... I'm addicted)! To anyone thinking about paying a visit, all cat cafes have different rules, and this one asks that you not disturb sleeping cats. I have a child who loves cats, and he wants a cat really badly ... but we're not getting a cat (sorry, kid). But I love my child and want to support the things he loves, so I'm very happy that I found Nine Lives Cat Cafe, because now my child can be around cats and pet cats and love on cats while I smile and drink coffee. I love this place because not only do they have kitties here that you can pet and play with, but they also adopt out all of the cats. So, if you fall in love with a kitty during your visit, you can take him home with you! I was told that there is a high turnover here (the cats only stay a week or two before going to forever homes), which makes me happy. Although while the cats are living at Nine Lives, their digs are really cool. There are lots of toys to play with, boxes to sit in, and tall places to escape to where they can ignore humans. The people who work here are also really knowledgeable about cats and their first priority is to make sure the cats (and people) are safe and comfortable. In fact, before you step into the cat area, they talk to you about the rules to ensure that everyone has a good visit (and no one gets scratched). I would visit Nine Lives just for the kitties, but this place is super awesome because it's also a coffee shop! I got a black coffee, and it was great. I also treated my child to a vegan cupcake, and he loved it. (The only kind of cupcakes they offered were vegan, but they were actually pretty good!) I'm so glad this cat cafe exists! I love cats and am a prior cat-owner, but have vowed to avoid future pet ownership. I like to use 9 Lives as a stopgap, when I start to get the cat adoption urge...which probably is nonsensical, since you can adopt cats at 9 Lives. But, somehow, 30 minutes of cat time brings me back to my senses. The cafe portion is separated from the cat area by a glass wall, so you don't have to worry about contaminating your lavender latte. I found the baristas make the drinks a little too sweet, and always forget to ask them to adjust the sweetness levels of my dirty chai. It can be crowded on the weekends, so follow the cafe's recommendation and make a reservation for the cat portion in advance. If you visit during a weekday morning, you're more likely to have all the cats to yourself, as well as the comfy pleather couch. And, sort of a warning: I really love cats, but there are some cafe visitors who REALLY love cats, are a bit odd, and can be a bit overly familiar with the cats (when the cafe's cat minder isn't looking). There is frequently one extremely loud gentleman who uses the coffee side to charge his phone, whose shouting can sometimes disrupt the quiet coffee atmosphere (but you feel for him, so nobody tries to shush him). Otherwise, you can meet some lovely people there and bond, while you all try to gently encourage the more shy or sleepy felines to be interactive. The cats rotate out pretty frequently due to the high level of customer adoption. It is nice that Fountain Square has a nearby espresso cafe, after Funkyard closed. Bonus: There is a townhouse across the street from the cafe with 3-4 hairless cats frequently sitting in the windowsill, staring at the cat cafe. Cat overload. read more
