Full disclosure, I was looking forward to dim sum, and I thought it was just okay. My friend is pescetarian and there were not many options for him - mostly meat, one or two seafood options, and virtually nothing vegetable (I'm used to at least a Chinese Broccoli with oyster sauce option). In fairness, their standard menu had some of those, but they were clearly a large serving size meant for a family. It was also a little confusing - they gave us one dim sum menu (and only one, even after we asked for a second one to look over; it wasn't super crowded and they could've spared one), but our waitress came by one time and only one time with a cart. So, was this place supposed to be cart service, or ordering a la carte (no pun intended)? It just made the decision process a little clunky. Of the dim sum I got, the pork shu mai was probably best. Standard, but not bad nor extraordinary. The chiar siu pork buns were tasty, but way too doughy. My friend got the shrimp Pad Thai. We had to check a couple times with the waitress to make sure that there was no non-seafood meats. Ultimately, he ordered it and he was impressed with just how much shrimp it came with. Overall, not too bad. Our waitress was very friendly, but spotty in her timing. The prices weren't bad. It was overall okay, but since I don't live in the area and know of better dim sum places, I probably won't be back.

I was wondering how it compared to Charm City Buffet, which I have been to several times. I assumed that it would be about the same, if not a tad bit worse, because it's smaller than Charm City Buffet. I am pleased to say that I WAS WRONG. Jeremy, Justin and I all thought that Best Buffet was better. The people cooking the food actually want it to taste good, instead of throwing whatever up on the buffet line thinking quality doesn't matter. I managed to eat two plates of food, which doesn't seem like a lot, but I had some big honkin' portions of meat. Everything was incredible, and I wish I could have unzipped my stomach and continued to eat. The roast pork was so tender and delicious. The spare rib meat came right off the bone and was sticky with that great hoisin-flavored Chinese sauce. The crawfish were spicy. All the Chinese dishes tasted like something you would get at a quality take-away. The sweet and sour chicken nuggets were crispy, and you get to sauce them yourself, so they stay that way. Jeremy couldn't get enough of the pepper steak and onions. Justin was the only one to take advantage of the hibachi - which he liked, but said it could use more vegetables to choose from. He would have liked some broccoli and mushrooms. I'm not sure if those things were available over at the salad bar, but if they were I feel like the manager of the buffet should consider moving the salad ingredients closer to the hibachi, so customers realize they have more choice. The shrimp were okay. I think I may be eating them wrong. I don't understand the seasoned coating on the outer shell. I peel off the shell, and thus all the coating, so why is it there? I ate half a dozen of them, though, so don't think I'm going to let my confusion stop me from eating shrimp whenever possible. Sharon, our other friend, wanted to pay for Jeremy and I, but didn't factor in the fact that prices are higher on the weekends and during dinner (she picked the time and day), so I ended up paying for myself because the price for two was already more than she expected to pay. Personally, I thought for the selection of foods, and considering it was dinner, the price of approximately $22 per person wasn't bad. I think this is the reason why she said that she preferred Charm City Buffet (when we paid), though she claimed that she thought the food tasted better at CCB. Her favorite item at Best Buffet was the coconut shrimp (which I regret not trying, but I couldn't fit anything else in my belly). I do wish that there was something seriously chocolatey, like a brownie, on the dessert bar. I tried to soothe my sweet tooth with a slice of cake with chocolate mousse on top, but it just didn't cut it. This is my top buffet choice (for now. There's a new one being remodeled on North Point, behind the mall, that I'm eagerly awaiting). I feel like I could go there every week, try new things each time, and be just as pleased as I was on Sunday.

After driving all the way back home to the Eastern Shore (I was only in the area for a medical appointment), I opened my food and found that it was definitely spicy--you could clearly see the peppers in the dish. When I called the restaurant, they told me they would remake it, but only if I brought the original meal back. Unfortunately, that's not realistic when you live over an hour away. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable--just a solution that acknowledged their mistake, such as a credit for my next visit. Instead, I was left with no dinner that I could eat and the choice of either throwing away my meal or making a two-hour round trip, spending more on gas than the entrée was worth. This has always been one of my go-to Chinese restaurants, but this isn't the first time I've been disappointed. Good customer service isn't just about remaking an order--it's about considering what's reasonable for the customer. I hope they improve how they handle situations like this because I'd really like to continue supporting them.

I should've paid attention to the three star rating, but I didn't. The food looked kind of decent and seeing that the restaurant had a parking lot was actually a plus for me (restaurants with street parking stress me out). Anyhoo, I looked through the menu for some tasty items to try. I had a taste for shrimp egg foo young (with fried rice- remember this), and some kind of steamed dumplings. This restaurant had something called Wasabi Shumai Dumplings. The paper menu states that they are $8.95. Online, it says that they are $9.95. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the online prices are most up to date. I had some delicious dumplings at other restaurants before, and hoped that these would be tasty. Spoiler alert...they most definitely were NOT! I called my order and took the 15 minute drive to the location. When I arrived, I was greeted by a nice woman that I assumed took my phone order. She explained to me that she had to give me half spicy dumplings and half regular. I wasn't quite sure what that meant, but I assumed that they ran out of one or the other and had to make some provisions to the appetizer. She apologized and said she should have called me to see if it was okay. Honestly, that would've been appreciated, but I never had these dumplings before, so I didn't know what to expect. My total came to $27.45 for dumplings and shrimp egg foo young with fried rice. Now, most places don't charge extra for fried rice and if they do, it's for a dollar. This place charged me four dollars extra for fried rice. Going against my gut, I accepted the extra charge. With a five dollar tip (which I immediately regretted), my total came up to $32.45. I honestly should've omitted the tip after I was told that there was a change to the appetizer without me being notified. However, as a consumer, I try my best to tip appropriately. Anyways, after making my way home, I started taking everything out of the bag. I took the dumplings out first. The container felt a bit light. Nothing prepared me for what I saw. I stared down at the most pitiful appetizer I've probably ever seen. Six small, sad, MEASLY dumplings scattered over a lifeless bed of what looked like white cabbage. Some type of brown sauce carelessly splashed over the dumplings made everything look even worse. I was immediately irritated, thinking that I should've chosen an egg roll or something less offensive. Ten dollars for an appetizer that could've, no SHOULD'VE been for free. I tasted one, and was just so extremely underwhelmed. It tasted like mush. It was supposed to be shrimp and pork. All I could taste was a heavy flavor of scallions. The "spicy" dumplings had chunks of ginger, which was overpowering and overall just not good. The shrimp egg foo young was honestly pretty good. The flavor was there and the brown gravy was what I was used to. The fried rice, although a bit dry, also had a good flavor. My gripe with this particular dish was the size of the shrimp. In the picture that I posted, you can see that the shrimp is smaller than my fork! These were baby shrimp- something I just never seen before when eating Chinese takeout. I couldn't see the shrimp right away because they were hidden inside the egg patty. This meal was a true disappointment & it's one of the reasons why patrons are choosing to cook more and more at home. I like to eat out every now and then, but this experience put a bitter taste in my mouth- literally and figuratively. The price gouging is ridiculous. I give two stars for the egg foo young. I've been going for a month or two when in the mood and each time I try something new. I'm looking for flavors like I get back home and this is very close. The pickup price point is A+ for the location and the guy is always friendly when I go. They do really well with edits to their items and the serving sizes are generous and always lend to two meals. Oddly enough I tried their American Menu as featured and it was tasty for what it was if that makes sense. I usually read reviews before venturing somewhere but I was tired of the other spot we normally use and I'm happy to have tried it.
