This is easily the weakest Atlas restaurant in Baltimore. I wanted to like it based on the location and gorgeous decor but the service and food fell so flat. I gave the restaurant a few months to get their kinks figured out before trying it since it is very expensive - however, they clearly have a lottttttt to still work out. I came here to celebrate my engagement with some girl friends and it was such a disappointment, I would've rather gone to Panda Express to celebrate such a momentous occasion. The server was strange to say the least. She offered weird suggestions and didn't really have much to say about what others have ordered a lot of or what other patrons have said. She made a weird face when I said 2 of the girls in my group are vegetarian and one doesn't eat pork for religious reasons. Def needs some training!!! It was a Monday night and I ordered a drink which finally came after 30 minutes and a reminder to the server. The drink I got was the Ube one, it was unique and the reason for one of the 2 stars i gave the place. The other star is for the strawberry and lychee dessert which was yummy. But the server also weirdly questioned us when we only wanted one dessert to share with the 4 of us. We ordered the cucumber salad which was small for the price. The veggie dumplings were decent. The spring rolls were okay. The Singapore noodles were so bland, the fried rice also so bland, the veggies were ok, the green beans were ok. The black vinegar, chili crisp, and soy sauce needed to be added to everything. One of the worst parts was when I was mid-bite of the Singapore noodles and the waitstaff is literally asking to take away the plate with food on it!!!! I said no!! And he tried grabbing the plate!!!! So bizarre! Then, it felt like they were trying to kick us out which was so strange since it was not a busy Monday night and there were plenty of empty tables. Then, the server was to pack up our leftovers. 30 minutes later, we still didn't receive the bag. So they were trying to push us out without our leftovers. Again, so strange. For how expensive this place is, you'd expect the service and food to be better. It did not feel welcoming at all, esp since we were celebrating a big event. Easily the worst restaurant I've been to in Baltimore when it comes to service and food. Go to Bao Di or Peter Chang's if you want good food and service both for a better price!!!! read more

I have been trying to get to Nine Tailed Fox for a while. Finally made it and it did not disappoint. The set up inside is very cozy and inviting. Lots of detail in the interior from the seating to the artwork on the walls. Our server was so attentive and engaging. He gave us lots of recommendations and suggestions on things we wanted to order. He checked in often and made sure we had everything we needed. Even letting us know if the bar was backed up and helping us to order around the hustle and bustle of the busy night to make sure the food and drinks came out in a timely manner. With that said let's get into the food and beverages. I did not taste anything that I didn't like. Was very excited to try this restaurant, after seeing the menu online. However, I did not have the opportunity to. Walked in and asked for availability for bar seating for one. I was told that the second floor bar was closed for a full buy out , but the first floor bar was open. I grabbed a seat and noticed two other people waiting to be helped. Sat for some time with no one approaching us. The other two people left. Shortly, two more people arrived. Eventually, someone said that we would be helped shortly. Another person then came out to tell us that the bar was not open. At this point, it seemed no one knew what was going on, so I decided to leave. read more

We came for Happy Hour which looked amazing on the menu online and arrived 5 pm on a Monday. Before being seated, we were told we would need to be done with our meal by 7 pm. (Not very welcoming). Then, we were told Happy Hour is only at the bar. The bar downstairs is four seats. Upstairs inside, there are some two top tables and a square of one seaters surrounding the bartenders. There was one row of seats facing the stairs which were empty and we asked to sit there but were told the bartenders were very busy and they probably wouldn't be able to serve us if we sat there. We were at a table within the bar area downstairs near the restaurant entrance and they refused Happy Hour until we stated we would mention this in our review. Our server, who was great by the way, talked to one of the managers who came to our table and said this one time only they would provide us Happy Hour at the table. His tone was not welcoming; like he was doing us a favor. The food was good. The vegetable fried rice may have been the best I ever had. We liked our soup dumplings (off regular menu) and our beef dish. Wine was good as well. We still spent about $200 for six people. Gratuity was added but we tipped more than that because our waiter was great. Arrogance does not begat elegance. The atmosphere from the hostess desk to the manager was arrogant and not friendly. Our waiter was the saving grace. Since the restaurant is new, I will try it again in the future with the hopes that they will smooth out the rough spots. Dropped in for H/H well some positives and why it ultimately was ok. The Chilli wontons were a banger, i could eat a dozen of those along with the sauce. The crab rangoon was decent enough didnt taste much crab but decent. The wings were ok. The fried rice needed more soy sauce which i added and the mongolian beef was outstanding albeit very small portion, fit for a baby maybe its because it was of the H/H menu perhaps. You can tell the beef quality was there. Negatives the drinks come on lets be real, if you are charging me $14 a pop at least let it have some alcohol lol. I drank the drinks on an empty stomach and i was not even buzzed. The first drink was essentially juice couldnt taste the tequila, so i knew this was going to be the norm with the others, so i went safe. Ordered an old fashioned, bartender said they have their take on that, said why not lol. Dissapointment. I came here for lunch with a girlfriend and Im so happy that I did. A few thing I pay attention to on first time visits are ambiance, noise level, and the vibe of the hostess, greeter when I first come in. All checked off immediately and Adam the bartender brung It home for the win. He was very attentive and offered recommendations since it was our first time. Safe to say he knows the menu! I really enjoyed this restaurant! The service was great, efficient and everyone was nice. The dishes come out quickly and are meant to be shared. We ordered crab rangoon's, chili wonton, crispy shrimp dumplings, half portion of duck, mango beef, green beans, and two sides of rice. Everything is a la carte. Everything came out warm and tasted so good, lots of flavors in these dishes that felt elevated from your traditional chinese carry out. Overall I would come back and try more dishes! Lamb potstickers (ok), chili wonton (excellent), crab Rangoon (meh), stir fry pork xo duck (flavorful), wok seared green beans (tasty), vegetable fried rice with chicken added (flavorless, however if you drench in their chili crunch, it's good), Mongolian beef (delicious), strawberry cloud cake (flavorless), golden mango sago pudding (flavorless), seasonal scoops (both passion fruit and strawberry which tasted like raspberry were good). Overall I really really liked my experience. The only thing I didn't appreciate is that I was 30 minutes early for my reservation, and the host was extremely rude about it. Condescendingly saying I'll be seating you at your reservation time. When he walked away the other hostess gladly seated us early. The rudeness was my only complaint, otherwise everyone else was lovely, the food was delicious and affordable too. Tent even gave me dessert for free since it was my birthday. Nine Tailed Fox is a new Chinese restaurant concept from Atlas, located in a gorgeous new building at Cross Keys. I've been twice, and there are things I love and things I don't love as much. Across my two dinners, I've been able to taste quite a bit of their menu: lamb potstickers (good); chicken potstickers (I preferred the lamb; shrimp and abalone Shumai (good); mushroom dumplings (pretty good); chicken Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings - good); crispy shrimp balls (pretty good); crab rangoon (I'm a sucker for this dish - nostalgia? - and their version was a hit for me); crispy shrimp spring roll (fine); Chinese BBQ chicken (very good); Peking duck (good); beef & mango lettuce cups (good); General Tso Chicken (fine); XO seafood fried rice (pretty good); okra and eggplant stir fry (good but very little eggplant); wok-seared green beans (pretty good); baby bok choy (fine); strawberry cloud cake (good); chocolate Xiao Long Bao (pretty good); golden mango sago pudding (good); and Yuenueung custard (too sweet for me). Based on everything we've tried, I'd say that their dim dum are all pretty good and you can have a nice meal just choosing from them (dim sum and a dessert seems like a great meal option here). I have found the vegetables to be consistently undercooked, which I don't mind in general (I'd rather than a green bean with a bite than one from a can that becomes puree in your mouth), but may not be for everyone and doesn't really work for bok choy. I love that they keep black vinegar and chile crunch on the table in addition to soy sauce, but I found myself adding them to everything, which means that I probably didn't love the seasoning or the sauce on the dish itself and it needed a little zhuzhing up. It also means everything starts ot taste the same (like delicious black vinegar and chile crunch, but the same nonetheless). The highlights for me? The lamb potsticker, the chicken soup dumplings, the Chinese BBQ chicken, and the desserts (other than the custard that was just too sweet for my taste). Overall, I find the food pretty good: no big misses, just some dishes that aren't very memorable, and a couple that really hit the spot for me. I've also tasted quite a few of their cocktails after two visits, and I can't say I recommend them. I've tasted more than these, but I've ordered for myself the Everybody Was... (vodka, baijiu, pineapple, ube, and ginger) and Way of the Dragon (rum, Midori, passionfruit, lime, and mint). I found both of them to be too sweet and not very well balanced (even though both list something that should have cut the sweet - ginger or passionfruit/lime, they just drank super sweet). On my second visit, I stuck to wine. So the food, I like. The drinks, not so much. But there's more. They didn't spare any expense with the design and decor - the restaurant is beautiful. From the outside (that exterior black brick) to the art on the walls - the restaurant really is stunning. The interior, the bathrooms, and the outdoor patio (which is atrium style accessed from inside the building) are all very beautiful. Off the top of my head, I can only thing of one upscale, very high end Chinese restaurant in Baltimore. And Nine Tailed Fox certainly blows it away when it comes to decor. The service both evenings was fantastic. I don't remember our servers' names, but on both occasions, they were friendly and helpful. They definitely added to our experience. In contrast, front of house hasn't been great either time I've visited; in general, I'd say the staff at the host stand haven't been very welcoming or friendly (long waits even though open tables are visible and no acknowledgement from hosts while you wait). Since they are a diner's first experience with Nine Tailed Fox, it would be great if there was a little warmer of a welcome here. It's a bummer, because everyone else at the restaurant is lovely (from the servers to the staff that pick up the plates and refill water glasses). Look, I love the location (I don't have to drive into or through downtown and it has parking?!), so I wanted to love Nine Tailed Fox. I do think it's offering something different for Baltimore. Larger US cities probably have a few restaurants doing very high-end Chinese or regional Chinese, but I think Nine Tailed Fox feels unique in Baltimore (the other place I hinted at above has similar food, drinks, plating, but can't match Nine Tailed Fox's building, decor, and style). However, I think there's just something missing right now. The service at the table is great, and the restaurant is beautiful (a showstopper). The food ranges from fine to pretty good, although I think I've only had one dish that stands out as something special (the BBQ chicken). But the only real misses for me so far are the service at front of house and the cocktails. Overall though, I think for a new restaurant, they're doing a lot right. And I may grow to love it more. This is not a Chinese place that does 50% takeout like you'd find on the end of a strip mall. It's a modern bistro with professional Baltimore area servers that's served on decorated plates. The food is clean, pretty and super flavorful. We loved it! Great beer and wine selection plus a full bar. We highly recommend!! The prices reflect the care that's taken presenting and serving the food. The 3% added "facilities fee" was a source of note on an otherwise great experience. Kind of nickle and diming. This restaurant is incredibly spacious and one of the most beautifully decorated places I've been to in a long time. We were seated immediately, and our waiter was so friendly and personable, which made the experience even better. The food is served family style, arriving as it's ready, which we really enjoyed, and everything came out pretty quickly. Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious--nothing missed the mark. The crab rangoon wontons were the best I've ever had, the soup dumplings were incredible, and the strawberry cloud cake was so light and the perfect way to end the meal. My grandson and I came here today. When we first checked in we were asked if we had reservations. We were told they were only taking reservations but, that we could be put on a waitlist. They took my name and phone number and said that I would receive a text if space became available. We went to sit in the car to wait. I received a text in less than 15 minutes. The staff here is amazing. We were welcomed both times. They asked where we would like to be seated. We chose outdoors on the upper level. As we walked through let me tell you this restaurant is a vibe. Indoors were dimly lit. I didn't see much of the first level but,, they have indoor and outdoor seating on both levels. By choice we were seated on the 2nd level outdoors. Indoors upstairs also was a vibe. Every employee that we had an encounter with was very pleasant. Once seated, we were given menus and water. For drinks the grandson had a lemonade (he didn't care for the lemonade). I ordered the down, up, plus kick for my drink (a drink with vodka in it) It was ok. Now let's get started with the food. The crab rangoon was delicious. We both loved it. My grandson had Singapore noodles with beef and I had the shrimp fried rice. I was a little worried when I saw that my shrimp fried rice was light in color because I'm used to it being very dark. Well, let me tell you something....it did not disappoint. Went on Labor Day Monday at 2:30pm, they didn't have happy hour due to the holiday which was fine. The restaurant wasn't busy at all. All of the employees were welcoming and nice. The drinks were really good. I had the way of the dragon and I LOVED IT! Ended up getting two of them. We ordered the general tso chicken, Singapore noodles, crab Rangoon, and the shrimp and abalone shumai dim sum. The food was really good and of good quality. I can't pick which was my favorite because they were all really good. I will go back. The restaurant has two floors and inside and outside dinning. Therefore, some friends were able to grab a table however, you can't order HH at the table which was very disappointing. Therefore, I ate at the bar. We tried a plethora of things and nothing tasted bad however there was only one dish that stood out. The general tso chicken was okay, flavorful but not as crunchy as I would have loved. The wings were good but gave garlic soy flavor. If that's your preference, you will love them. The string beans were fresh and crispy but lacked flavor. The pot stickers were tasty but I suggest getting them fried instead of steamed. The fried rice was a bit bland but better with soy sauce. The real star of the show was the chow mein. I went the opening week for happy hour and loved the prices and selections. During our visit they did change the menu and took items off but we were still able to get happy hour prices. There's indoor and outdoor seating but happy hour is only at the upstairs bar. There's indie bartenders and servers are polite and everyone is learning the menu so be patient. Like all Atlas restaurants, it's upscale with a dress code but we should all know how to dress by now. Our food was delicious. Entrees do not come with rice as in other Asian restaurants so be sure to order it. Try to black vinegar prior to using soy sauce, you won't be disappointed. Nine Tails Fox is one of the newer restaurants my wife and I were genuinely excited to try, so my wife and I decided to visit for our anniversary. To be honest, it wasn't quite what I expected and I'm still not sure if that's a good or bad thing. If you're familiar with East Asian culture, lore, or symbolism, you might walk in expecting a vibrant, immersive atmosphere. Unfortunately, that's not what you'll find here. The name kitsune "Ninetails Fox" carries a lot of cultural meaning, but the restaurant doesn't really reflect that. Instead, it feels more like the name was used for aesthetic appeal rather than cultural representation. Visually, the space leans toward dark, moody tones that resemble other Atlas Group restaurants like The Bygone or Azumi. While that look works for those places, it feels like a missed opportunity here especially for a concept that could have celebrated the bright, colorful spirit often associated with Asia. Ironically, the brightest thing in the room was the staff's green shirts. As for the food, it was decent but not remarkable comparable to a local mom-and-pop spot with a light fusion twist. The staff, however, were great: friendly, attentive, and welcoming. On the contrary, I don't think it was overly expensive probably one of those affordable nights out in the Baltimore area, which is a plus. However, the bar upstairs wasn't the best idea; it's easy to imagine someone having one too many and ending up in a slip-and-fall situation waiting to happen. Overall, we had an enjoyable evening the restaurant however not memorable. I had high hopes for this one, and while I wouldn't call it a bad experience, it didn't deliver what the name or concept promised. COCKTAILS: I absolutely loved the names of the cocktails: from the Mortal Kombat to Karate Kid to Bruce Lee references had me excited before I even took a sip. Each cocktail felt unique and creative in concept, which I really appreciated. That said, a lot of them were missing key components described on the menu. In some cases, one ingredient (like lemon or tequila) totally overpowered the others, and in others, flavors like ginger, basil, or passionfruit were barely detectable or missing entirely. Overall, the presentation and themes were great, but I would love to see the flavor balance tightened up to match the boldness of the names. Everybody Was $12 Super strong pineapple flavor with a pretty purple hue and slight creaminess from the ube. I was expecting more of that ginger kick, but it was lacking. Funny enough, the mocktail version (Kung Fu Fighting) was $14, which is $2 more than the actual cocktail. That threw me off. (Down)(Up)+ (Kick) $14 Very lemon-forward, I would even go as much to say almost too much. It overpowered everything else. I got maybe a hint of mango, but not much lychee. That said, the juicy lychee garnish was a nice touch. Sweep the Leg $12 The tequila dominated the whole drink. I couldn't taste any basil at all. Way of the Dragon $14 Made with rum, Midori, passionfruit, lime, and mint. Unfortunately, I didn't really taste much passionfruit or mint aside from the garnish. Midori gave it a nice jade color though. Intercepting Fist $16 This one came out flat, absolutely no bubbles. The nutmeg was a cool addition flavor-wise, but it was definitely missing some fizz. APPETIZERS: Lamb Potstickers $14 You can get them steamed or pan-fried. We went with pan-fried. Came out nicely seared and good flavor. Crab Rangoon $12 Fried to a perfect crisp. It leaned more toward cream cheese than blue crab, but the sweet chili sauce helped cut through the richness. Chicken Wings $12 Four garlic, honey tobanjan wings. They were really crispy and full of flavor. Crispy Shrimp Ball $12 A crispy shrimp ball wrapped in wonton skin with a sweet chili sauce underneath. Super crunchy and satisfying. Also beautiful presentation (see picture). ENTRÉE: Fiery Lamb Chops $24 Comes with three chops and a dramatic flaming presentation (see picture and video). The flavor was good, but they were overcooked (probably because of that flame). Szechuan Chicken $19 Nice and crispy. Not bad, but not super authentic either. There were Szechuan peppercorns, but it lacked the bold spice and numbing flavor you would expect from a traditional Szechuan dish. I think they should have added fresh Szechuan peppercorns, rather than the fried, to hopefully recreate that numbing experience. Also, they really held back on the chili peppers. Peking Duck half - $32 Delicious. The duck skin was crispy and perfectly done. Not an easy thing to pull off, and they nailed it. The Chinese Pancakes in the bamboo steamer were not as warm as I hoped (see video). When I opened the steamer, not much steam came out - in fact, I saw the table next to ours had a lot more steam coming out of their bamboo steamed. STILL, $32 for half a Peking duck is a solid deal. Cumin Lamb $25 Smelled like cumin right away, but it was missing some of the depth and flavor you usually get in Szechuan-style cumin lamb. Still, the lamb itself was tender and tasty. DESSERTS: Strawberry Cloud Cake $12 Vanilla bean mousse, strawberry compote, and lychee cream. Light, fluffy, and one of my favorites. The lychee added just the right touch of tang. Xiao Long Bao $12 A bao stuffed with chocolate ganache and served with salted cream. The chewy bun with melty chocolate inside reminded me of hot cocoa. Yuenyeung Brûlée $12 Keemun tea crème brûlée with coffee mascarpone and almond crumble. Keemun tea is a Chinese black tea that is reminiscent of an English Breakfast tea. Honestly, one of the best crème brûlées I have ever had IF only the top had stayed crisp! Still, the flavor was rich, and the almond crumble added great texture. Golden Mango Sago Pudding $12 Coconut mango sago pudding with fresh fruit and passionfruit crunch. A nice, light, tropical dessert. The only issue was the passionfruit pop rocks. They had sunk to the bottom and got soggy, so they did not pop. I asked for some on the side, and they popped perfectly! Definitely recommend asking for those on the side. SERVICE: Destini, our server, was really sweet and attentive. Our barback, Karina, always made sure our water glasses were always full and cleared our table efficiently. That said, food did take a while to come out. There seemed to be some kitchen miscommunication. They brought us a dish we did not order & forgot our Szechuan Chicken entirely, which we did not get until 2 hours later. Thankfully, Bill, one of the supervisors, comped it. We were also charged for Wok-Seared Green Beans, which we did order but never received. It was their first time open to the public, so I definitely cut them some slack. read more

This restaurant is gorgeous. My boyfriend and I came and were seated in the date night booths - super cozy and romantic. We tried a little bit of everything on the menu (think dumplings, soups, entrees, sides). Overall, everything was tasty, but the flavor profile of some of the food fell a little flat for me. We came across this spot after a long wait time given for Easy like Sunday. Thankfully we came here. The ambiance in this restaurant is beautiful. The staff here were very polite and welcoming. We ordered the Black Pepper Beef, Schezwan Chicken and General Tso's Chicken. Everything came out hot and freshly made. The beef was very tender and delicious. We hosted a large group of family here for a graduation celebration dinner. It was perfect for us! Upscale atmosphere and delicious food. Two of our party had multiple food allergies, and the staff were very attentive to their needs. The dim sum plates were especially popular with our party. The green beans and the pea shoots are particularly exceptional. We ordered many additional rounds of soup dumplings and other dim sum because our guests enjoyed them so much. Food arrived very quickly even for additional orders. At the end of the evening, I was delighted to see that it was also a very affordable evening. We liked it so much that we came back for lunch later in our trip! I will definitely go out of my way to return there on future trips to Baltimore. read more
