It was so exciting to see a sushi restaurant finally popping up in the Colesville area! Rockville was always my go to city for decently affordable and tasteful sushi but now Ninja has definitely brought something new to this neighborhood! I believe the owners are Chinese and really try to get to know people in the community. It's been a very challenging time with COVID but their sushi really is fresh, well rolled and presented nicely! Not to mention all the affordable prices and lunch specials they offer (I highly recommend!) Looking forward to ordering from them more often instead of driving all the way to Rockville! read more

Ninja Sushi is a welcome addition to the Colesville neighborhood. As a new business, they are still working out the kinks. We ordered carryout online during one of their grand opening specials - free Ninja Roll with purchase. The ordering website could have better functionality - we were unable to choose the pickup time. In terms of our order, the Ninja Roll was missing some garnishes, we couldn't taste the cilantro in the Hero Roll, and they forgot to include soy sauce with our many sushi orders. Small misses aside, Ninja Sushi offers good sushi in a pinch. The sushi is a reasonable price that's consistent with the area. The lunch specials in particular are a good deal: two rolls for $9.95 or three rolls for $12.95, and your choice of miso soup or a salad. I opted for the yellowtail roll and eel avocado roll - no complaints. They have a wide variety of menu offerings so that there's something for everyone - sushi and sashimi, poki bowls, noodles and ramen, and hibachi dishes. Oh man, I reviewed this place when they first opened in November with five stars. We've eaten take out from here a few times, and it's been somewhere around "good" every time since... until tonight. Holy cow. If this was my first review of this place, I would be trying to figure out how to give them negative stars. We placed an order around 6 PM, and their online system told us it would be ready in 40 minutes, which seems a little higher than usual. Guess they're a little bit busy, but happens. My fiancee ran to pick it up. It's just after 730 now. . . . and she's been texting me for almost an hour about how bad it is. For those not following around with their abacuses ... abacusi... counting things, it's almost an hour late. And she's been waiting there... for an hour. The biggest part of the problem is what some of the other negative reviews have hit upon here. The person at the counter is responsible for answering the phone, taking orders (including walk-ins), and putting together your order, sending it out the door, etc. This is probably a doable job for one person on a slow Thursday afternoon, but at dinnertime, especially on a Friday? It's insane. To add a layer of injury, this woman prioritizes answering the phone and taking more orders over everything else. So, you get someone trying to place an order in person, the phone rings, "Hold on!" and two minutes later, "OK, start over." Similarly, she starts to put together an order, the phone rings, and she drops it to answer and take another order. Then, two minutes later, she starts putting it back together, except the phone rings again, and she turns back. You quickly see the problem: nothing is getting done except adding to the "To Do" pile. There's a backlog, and they're still taking orders. There are a dozen people waiting for orders, and they're all asking one another, "how late is yours...?" Worse, the restaurant has virtually no waiting area, and no system for informing people of when their order is ready remotely. So, unless you want to be jammed against other people in a tiny spot (during a pandemic), good luck. She's been waiting ten minutes now to try to request a refund on the order, and hasn't managed to even get the attention of the food-packer/order-taker/cashier/etc. Seriously, you guys need more help, and tremendously better organisation. You also have to stop taking orders when you're full. Update: WOOHOO. She got the food, so we get to eat, over two hours after the order was placed. :-/ On top of that, they forgot the soup, and the sushi platters are just a little ... haphazard. read more

Look...I love a new business. I love a small business. I love sushi. Is there a lot of great sushi around here? Sure. Is this GREAT sushi? Not yet. Now, if you're a sashimi kinda person then go go go to Ninja Sushi. There fish was very nice and fresh. The problem is that sushi is not about only the fish. Sushi is sushi because of the RICE. The rise here lacked both the vinegar tinge and it also was undercooked and wasn't sticky enough to hold things together. In a nutshell, it lacked the attention to detail that every sushi place requires...it was sloppy. The good news? This is easily repairable. Cooking good sushi rice isn't easy but it is something that is learnable and can be performed consistently. I'm hoping someone with the know-how to get this done shows up soon as this place is SUPER close to my house and I'd love to get some good sushi at a moment's notice. FWIW, the service was good and the staff were exceedingly nice. I'll give them a few months to set their boat straight and then I'll go back. A new review will accompany. read more

We had a meeting in this area and found Ninja sushi from the Google and ,because we are not familiar with the area,our expectations were very low. But this place is amazing and I wish to have them around my house. Absolutely perfect service,very attentive and professional,interior is welcoming and nice. Food was great,we got a complimentary rice balls from chef and they were a small concoction with warm baked spicy tuna on the top. Rolls were great,my Hero roll was amazing! New sushi place opened up in the hood and YUM, so glad it did! I ordered my standby test for all new sushi restaurants - chirashi sushi - and it did not disappoint! The fish was very fresh and the sushi rice was the perfect consistency! The bro had the sushi deluxe and was very happy with it! Good amount of sushi and it all tasted very good! They are currently running a grand opening special - spend $40 on your order and they throw in a Ninja Roll - spicy tuna, cucumber, crabmeat inside, deep fried with eel sauce & chili sauce and mayo, masago and scallion on top. Pros; Only Sushi Restaurant in this immediate area. Cons; Very long wait times on orders. Bad command of the English languge Rooms are losely wrapped. This is my second time here. Some of the issues I find are, the girl at the front counter really has a terrible understanding of the English language  and she speaks English worse so it makes it difficult when ordering. Also, some of the items don't have ingredient descriptions which makes it sometimes difficult when ordering. One more service issue i have that annoys me is, when ordering in person, if the phone rings they literally just stop what they are doing to answer the phone  which causes your order to be delayed and her to start over with you and the phone never stops ringing. Today I ordered a Columbia Roll,  California Roll and a Cucumber & Avacado Roll. The food is ok, nothing great, the rolls are very losely wrapped so it falls apart easily. Bottom line, I can't reccomend Ninja but they will do if your looking for sushi and don't feel like driving. read more

This is a really great sushi place by the standards that I judge a sushi restaurant, which are: "is it fresh and do I like the way it tastes?" I've never been to Japan so I can't comment on authentic vs. Americanized, and frankly I just don't care because I like what I like. Both my husband and I really, REALLY like Ninja sushi. He found it on his own as he arrived in town a few days before I did, so he's eaten there three times and I have only twice. He raved about it after going for lunch, he was impressed in how subtle the fish was on the nigiri vs sushi "back home" which wasn't so close to the ocean. He also had never received an amuse bouche from a sushi place, so thought that was really cool. Anyway, when I got to town it's one of the first few places we went together and I agree with his assessment. In the two visits I've had, they brought an amuse bouche (spicy rice ball) before the meal and a mini dessert (like a mini flan) thank you after. I don't know if this is a permanent thing or just during the pandemic, it's absolutely not necessary but also absolutely appreciated. As for what we've ordered: the first time we got the dubiously named but absolutely delicious "sushi pizza" appetizer (the "crust" is deep fried rice, topped with crab, seaweed, sriracha mayo and I forgot what else), the dynamite role (spelled "dynamile" on the menu) and a mango shrimp roll. On the second visit, we stuck with the sushi pizza and dynamite roll and swapped out the third to try the Silver Spring roll. All of it was really good, with our favorites being the dynamite and sushi pizza. I'd order any of the rolls again but if I had to rank them I'd put the Silver Spring slightly ahead of the mango shrimp. Prices are pretty on-par with most sushi places, which, when they add two free things, becomes a good bargain. Service was very good both visits. I almost never order wine at a sushi place but they carry a nice sweet moscato, which is how I roll (again, I don't care if it's fancy but I like what I like.), so I ordered that both visits. I'm so glad we have this only a couple miles from my house! I think I'll be eating a lot more sushi than I did back in TX. read more

My friends have told me great things about Ninja Sushi and my recent order did not disappoint. This is the best sushi restaurant in the area for the value. My friends and I shared some of the California, salmon avocado, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy scallop rolls and uni nigiri as well. Wow this sushi was really fresh and yummy. Even then uni tasted like it just came from Santa Barbara. Between a group of 6 we still had leftovers from the +10 rolls. I loved the scallop, salmon and tuna rolls the most. They definitely packed a lot of fish into every roll. Service here was also great. We ordered when we got there for take out and even with our large order we were in and out in under 30 minutes. I'll definitely be back to try their other rolls. I also heard they have great lunch specials as well. read more

Fresh food and great service. I went to lunch with an old friend. I was hungry and order the hibachi steak and a Baltimore roll, which was a type of shrimp tempura roll. I was worried that the tofu skin sushi would be mushy, but it was crispy and added great texture. None like blew my socks off, but I also didn't have regrets choosing them. Visited on a Monday night. Walking in, I was impressed. The dimmed lighting, laser lights and faux red roses on the table made my best friend and I feel like we were going on a romantic first date. We have been loving this place since they opened- probably getting take out 2-3x a month. But now we dine in (less plastic) and it's even better. They have a special dine-in deal going on- we got 3 specialty rolls, 3 apps, and had 4 beers. Our bill was $65 and we had plenty to eat. We usually get the udon and hibachi, so this special was our first time trying a variety of their sushi and it was fresh and crisp- just the way I like it. They bring out the food pretty slowly so it's more like a dining out event, which we like. But if that bugs you- i might suggest asking for everything to come out at once. read more

We are hoping to have a visit from our sushi loving granddaughter this summer. With all the positive reviews of Ninja Sushi we decided to give it a try. I'm not a fan of sushi so had placed an order at a different carry-out, but Rich likes sushi so he ordered a lunch special. When we got to Ninja I saw they had a lot more choices than just sushi. They do have dozens of varieties of sushi, but they also have appetizers, tempura, teriyaki noodle, and hibachi choices. They don't do hibachi at the table but serve it from the kitchen. Rich really enjoyed his sushi, very fresh and he even said the miso soup, usually pretty bland, was one of the best he's ever had. Lunch specials include sushi, hibachi, bento box, or lunch rolls. I was pleasantly surprised at the ambiance of the restaurant. There are booths on one wall and long tables, suitable for larger parties on the other side. There is a mural on one wall. They serve wine and beer. I'm looking forward to going back and trying some of the tempura, teriyaki or hibachi meals. read more

This is our favorite sushi spot and bonus points because it's so close to our house. The rolls come with festive flowers and lights too. When I was pregnant, I couldn't eat the raw stuff so I stuck with the Baltimore roll. We were going every Friday because I couldn't get enough. To start the service is great! They gave us a free appetizer while we waited. Which was so nice of them. I ordered the dynamite and silver spring roll both were great. The problem was the chicken noodles we ordered. They had a very weird taste. We tried it and instantly did not like it. The server became confused when we advised her that we did not enjoy it and would like to return it for something else. We didn't want the money back we wanted to order something else instead. New sushi spot in the Colesville area. I called in my order and it was ready when I got there. I got the spicy salmon and shrimp tempura roll. I was not a fan of their spicy salmon - the texture threw me off like the salmon was mixed together with the spicy mayo making it mushy. The shrimp tempura was OK, but the shrimp was slightly overcooked making it chewy. Getting shrimp as takeout is always a gamble but it's one I'm willing to take (COVID obliged).
