How have I not reviewed this place yet?! I go every year I'm in town for my birthday. Most recently went earlier this month when my parents were in town for an early birthday dinner (since they'll be on vacation). Everything was great as usual! Chef was hilarious and portions were generous. Flavor was all over it. Nearly had to be rolled out but was able to control myself, stop eating, and get a to-go box! Proud of me for that one ;) Can't wait until my actual birthday so I can go back with friends. Note: if the waitress says don't get the fish - don't get the fish! Two friends asked "chicken or salmon" a few birthdays ago and waitress said "chicken". They both ordered salmon and were disappointed... but hey, they were warned so I'm not letting that hurt their review. My other friend gets sushi here all the time and hasn't had any issues. read more

I was visiting Nashville and Ninki was recommended to my friends. I want to first thank the server for being so chill and friendly. He was definitely helpful with deciding which rolls I ordered. I ordered the: Texas roll 7/10 Pizza roll 5/10 Butterfly roll 5/10 Yum yum roll 7/10 Crunch Larina roll 7.5/10 Hawaiian Roll 7/10 I wasn't impressed but not disappointed either. It has been awhile since we ate at Ninki and I was in the mood for teppanyaki so we had dinner there tonight instead of driving all the way to Franklin to Shogun. First off, service was excellent. The 3 of us of order filet and scallops, filet and shrimp, filet and chicken and hubby ordered the Tennessee roll. Soup and salad were great and I like that they put a lot of the yummy ginger dressing. Hubby enjoyed the sushi roll and said he'd order it again. Our chef was funny and it was a great way to start the meal. Steak was delicious and I also enjoyed the chicken. The sauces made the dinner even better. Usually the fried rice is my favorite part and unfortunately it was just rice, egg and some sauces. I wish it had some veggies and butter as it was a bit lacking so I'd say that needs more work but aside from the rice everything else was delicious and I would definitely eat there again. read more

Came here with a group of 10 at 5 pm on a Sunday to have a fun meal before going to see a movie in the Green Hills area. They won't seat large parties until the whole group arrives, but luckily we arrived pretty quickly and they were able to seat us with no wait (particularly awesome because they don't take reservations.) The restaurant has a pretty decent sushi menu in addition to their hibachi, but most of us opted for hibachi only on this outing. They took our orders and served us miso soup and salad within our first 30 minutes of being seated, which felt right but is something to be mindful of if you are on a time crunch. The miso soup was a little lukewarm and only had a lone mushroom slice but had a great umami flavor. The salad had an excellent ginger dressing. The actual hibachi show was what I've come to expect of hibachi restaurants - the onion volcano, the crying egg, the heart rice, some tossed rice in folks' mouths. It was a fun show. By request, they made some of our fried rice spicy, which I would totally recommend for others looking for a bit of a kick in their meal. I opted for the chicken & shrimp hibachi and thought everything was perfectly cooked and enjoyed dipping my vegetables and meat in the yum yum sauce & ginger sauce they gave. Our tables' one small gripe was that the sauces overflowed in the dish they gave us and mixed together (which was a pleasant experience for me, as someone who likes mixing sauces, but wasn't what all in our group wanted. All in all, we had our appetizers, meal, wrapped up and paid in a little less than an hour and a half, which I think is pretty impressive for a large group outing (and was perfect timing for the movie we wanted to attend.) The waiting area seemed really packed as we were leaving, so I was really glad we got there so early & had no wait. Would totally come here again! read more

Went on a Wednesday night and my party of five was seated straight away. We all had the hibachi, our chef was fantastic and the food was good. The staff is very friendly and attentive--our drinks were always refilled and they took care of us all. It is your standard hibachi experience. Ninki sits in the Kroger shopping plaza at the corner of Harding Road and White Bridge, and is your standard hibachi/sushi spot. We were a small group of 5 on a Saturday night around 7:00 PM and while the place was packed, they got us to one of the last remaining open hibachi tables. Shortly after we got sat the place exploded with every seat filled and a front waiting area full of hungry folks ready for a show! So, in short...before 7:30 PM on the weekends is your best bet! A few of us wanted hibachi and sushi, which is great as Ninki has a pretty solid and well priced sushi menu. We opted to start with a sushi roll and then proceed with hibachi. This made our fatty-selves happy! For sushi we got the Tennessee Roll and the Crunch Munch Roll, both which were solid rolls. The sushi rolls came out around the same time as our salads/soup, so it was perfect appetizer timing. For hibachi, most of us ordered chicken, but a couple of us got the combo with steak/chicken or steak/scallops. Hibachi comes with the usuals of ginger salad, soup (onion or miso), (2) shrimp, fried rice, veggies and protein. Everything was decent and as expected with the exception of the soup, which was beyond salty and the scallops, as you only got (3) scallops and a smaller portion of your other protein. The scallops were not tiny, but also not huge...it was definitely not worth the extra cost. Additionally, at no time did our chef season anything on the grill. So, outside of the sauces, everything was pretty bland. The hibachi chef was nice and did what he needed to do. He did a few of the staples such as spinning the egg and the onion volcano, but outside of that he was not very engaging. Prices were not terrible. For (2) Chicken hibachi, (1) sushi roll and (1) Coors light, plus the 18% tip that is built in for all hibachi meals, we paid $60.00. Overall, there is nothing "wrong" with Ninki, but there is also nothing special about it. I would happily return with friends or family. read more

Nikki is always good. Not a lot of atmosphere but the food is delicious and consistent. The prices are very reasonable as well. The service is pretty good and it's fairly quick. Their servings are good, I usually have some left to take home. Their sushi is always fresh and delicious! read more

Reviewing new location in Bellevue (after tear down in Belle Meade). I think I'm the first review. My son and I both love Ninki, we have waited their return for over a year. We are sadly disappointed in our first visit to new location in Bellevue. We waited a reasonable time for a hibachi table. Then we waited ( I promise no exaggeration) 20mins plus to be asked for drinks and orders at the hibachi table which was full. Once we finally got drinks things started to head in a reasonable wait time for the food to come to be prepared. The guy on our grill was very nice and polite. I didn't recognize him from the Belle meade location. He over cooked eggs to death, which was not the worst of it. Then next over cooked the rice which is already cooked. He only added this one sauce which didn't seem like teriyaki sauce and then added a huge amount of butter. To the point where the girl next to me said her arteries could feel that already. Then once tasted was mushy over buttery fried rice. So disappointing. The rest of the food was ok but the rice is a lot of peoples favorite part of hibachi. I did get a refill in my drink which I much appreciated. I do plan to return, but I'm going to give them a while to work out their issues. Our dinner at Ninki was a memorable one thanks to good food and a high-energy chef. Our hibachi dinner started with clear onion soup and a light salad with delicious ginger dressing. I ordered the chicken hibachi which of course came with a generous helping of fried rice and veggies -- zucchini, mushrooms, onions and broccoli. The service was a little inconsistent. We sat at the grill for quite some time before our drink orders were taken. But once the chef arrived and our waitress took our drink orders, things improved. I was trying to find a place that was open for lunch/dinner on July 4th (most of the restaurants near me were closed). I called Ninki around 3:30 and asked about their hours (they were open until 9pm) - the person who answered the phone sounded annoyed and angry. Before I had a chance to say thank you I was hung up on. I decided to stop by anyway (around 4pm) and asked if I could sit at the sushi bar, which is where they did seat me. There were 4, maybe 5, tables with customers but it was pretty quiet. The 2 sushi chefs at the sushi bar nodded at me, but then ignored me. I counted at least 3 other restaurant staff that walked by me - and saw me sitting their with a menu - but not 1 person even bothered to bring a glass of water or take my order. I sat there for about 5 minutes before I got annoyed and decided to walk out. There was another employee at the entrance who just glared at me. I said that no one even stopped by to acknowledge me...she rolled her eyes and said "whatever". Worst almost dining experience I've had yet here in Nashville. Thankfully, I was able to go down the street to Chuy's where I had an amazing experience with friendly and professional staff. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. read more

Asked the server, he said yes there's meat in it, mix it up. 10 mins later returned and said, yes the kitchen said we are out of beef. Ordered the chicken Katsu bento box. Chicken was burned and extremely overcooked. Nasty. Service is mediocre at best. Host, she don't talk to you. But has no problem taking my money. And asking if I want to leave a tip. DO NOT EAT HERE! Ninki is our favorite spot to go on Fridays to get our weekend started on a high note. There are many food options on the menu, all of which are amazing. The staff is very quick and helpful, since we come so often some even recognize us when we are assigned their table. The overall feel of the restaurant gives you space to talk to your table without interruption but also get to hear the fun celebration drums when birthdays come to the hibachi table. Could not give Ninki enough stars for how amazing this place is. Ninki is an absolute gem. I go there often and the staff is super friendly every time. They have the best hibachi anywhere in Nashville.

I'll admit, I was skeptical of this place. It's located in a sketchy looking strip mall. Once you go inside though... You can choose to eat off the menu or hibachi style. We chose hibachi. We had no idea what to eat so we sampled a few things. The skills of our chef were impressive to say the least and he was also very entertaining! All I could wonder was how many times he had burnt himself and if he'd ever caught anyone else on fire! Lol! Overall, the food was excellent and given the chance I'd definitely go back. There's something about Japanese Steak houses that is so charmingly magical. I am always a little nostalgic when I go to a hibachi place. The excitement of watching and waiting for your food to be cooked and plated by the chef who is tirelessly cooking away on the hibachi grill in front of you remains so fun to watch, no matter what age you are. While I haven't had the chance to try any other places yet to compare, I am pleased with my experience on my visit over the weekend. At $17 for NY steak and $7 for a sushi roll as an appetizer, the price point is pretty affordable at least compared to what I've had back home near Chicago. I'm excited to have a decent hibachi place that's not too much of a trek from my new home and look forward to coming back! read more

I need to find a better hibachi spot. The staff is so rude. They pick up the phone without a greeting, like I pulled up to a drive thru window, "what will you have?" They're over priced and the service is poor, which is why they have a mandatory 18% service charge. The chefs, specifically David, are the only reason I come back; the food is delicious. read more

I ordered the crunchy shrimp roll and it was a mess. not tightly put together, falling apart with brown slimy avocado inside. the ginger salad was good. the sushi was all over the place too since they used a styrofoam box twice a size too big. you might want to invest in those small sushi trays to keep it together. read more
