This places over charges and the quality of the food is sub par. Exceptional service from the chefs but staff members such as the hostess aren't as friendly and inviting. They demand you to pay for sauces when you are ordering to go but the prices are still the same if you would be dining in?? How is that? They are very precise on the amount of rice given and for that I cannot fathom. For the price of what you pay and for the food to be only "regular" some major revisions must be done. So to sum it all up: 1. Food isn't worth the extensive cost when ordering to go. Even the meat doesn't even look as seasoned as if you would be to dine in even though the cooking process is literally the same. 2. The (older female) hostess is not as personable or accommodating 3. They make you pay for sauces that already come with the meal when dining in hit the price is the still the same. I'm just saying, you'll get more bang for your bung elsewhere (MADISON or BRENTWOOD) Full disclosure, I'm writing this review after visiting too many times I could be proud of and have received the same service/food quantity. I came here for hibachi the other night, so I can only speak as to that. The service by the waitress was excellent. She was very attentive and friendly, and is the main reason it's getting 3 stars. The food itself and portions also weren't bad. I had the calamari and my husband ordered the salmon. It was normal hibachi, not better or worse than the next one. The miso soup however was not good. It was very bland. I did enjoy their sweet ginger dressing on their salad though. That may have been one of the better things. The main reason why I'm only giving this place a three and not a four is due to the lack of entertainment/presentation by the chef. One of the reasons I love hibachi is because of the entertainment you tend to have with the tricks and other cool jokes when watching the food get prepared. None of that existed. The chef was in and out in 10 min and was probably the shortest amount of time I've ever seen a chef at a hibachi place finish. I felt bad for the three small kids next to us that were waiting to be "wow'ed" and never did. For the money associated with all Japanese steakhouses, you would expect a little more creativity and interaction between the chef and guests around the table, and it just wasn't there. If you're looking for the experience of a hibachi place, skip this restaurant and try a different one. If you just want a quick meal with fried rice, then this place isn't a bad choice. read more

Being new to Nashville, Ninki was my 2nd hibachi experience here. The first one was Shogun in Brentwood. And Shogun was MUCH better.. We sat at a regular table at Shogun and at Ninki. We were sat immediately at Ninki, but we waited about 20 minutes before our waiter even approached the table...she was pleasant, though. The food was not... what I expected. I think the regular dinner meals are made in batches. So we ordered chicken and steak hibachi and they literally came out in less than 10 mins. "Hm," I thought to myself. But okay. The fried rice was gummy and had a lot of dried out rice balls within it. Kind of inedible tbh. The chicken was....questionable. I ate 2 pieces and then stopped because in my soul I knew I would probably get food poisoning if I kept going lmao. I tried the steak and it tasted very old. Like it was reheated. One of the hibachi chefs spent about 10 minutes banging his spatulas on the grill which was headache-inducing. I believe the manager had to go tell him to chill out. Consistently excellent, fresh & authentic sushi in Nashville. This is city overrun with sushi hybrid locations (southern fried chicken roll? no thanks) and happy to have a casual go-to spot serving up great options. Their fish is always very fresh. If I'm craving sashimi, this is the spot to go in town. Also, their California roll uses actually crab meat as opposed to crab sticks found at most places locally. Their house onion soup is an amazing way to start off a meal. Have to brag on the service here as well. Always on point and very friendly. Can't go wrong here. The last of the three sushi spots I went to in Nashville and honestly my least favorite, but still, like I've said before, it's hard to ruin sushi and they place wasn't bad. Not a great experience!! Over 20+ ppl and myself went here to celebrate a birthday. Seating was quick but service was HORRIBLE!! One of the female waitress was annoying. She was an older lady with ear length hair and glasses. She asked for our drink order and informed us we could not order alcohol Bc they were busy and short staffed! We knew immediately. The dinner was down hill from there. Her attitude was horrible n had zero customer service skills. The cook was kind but food was not done. The rice still had hard uncooked areas. The meat was tough to chew Bc it was not cooked well. As soon as we got our food. We were given boxes. They clearly was rushing us to eat and leave. The rude waitress kept interrupting ppl while they were eating to pay the bill. I will NEVER GO BACK! I only have this review 1 star Bc i had to select a star to post my comment. I love hibachi, it's the best in town, someone prove me wrong! I've noticed a lot of reviews saying that it's over sautéed butttt mine was just right. I'm not a fan of yum yum sauce but the other sauce I like a lot. They have seating arrangement due to covid and still give you a great service. It's quick, well our table was "full" when we came. I love when the cook tries to get us to catch it in our mouth. It's a lot of people sitting/standing waiting on there to go orders that's the only part I didn't really like. I think they should have people wait in their cars and send a text when the food is ready, kinda hard social distancing when it's a cluster in the front. read more

SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. I've been here a few times and the food has always been great. However my last visit was enough to make me never return. There's a server: female, glasses, blonde-ish hair and maybe 30's or 40's. Everything I tried to order, she would say I didn't want that and recommended something else. She came and took our drink orders and then immediately came back to see if we were ready to order our food, and I asked politely for a few more moments...it took 15 minutes for her to come back and when she did, she was rude and impatient. When I asked for anything extra or a modification she would say "why would you want that??" When our food came out, they forgot two items and sauce. When I asked for a side of spicy Mayo she said "you don't need it there's already some on your sushi" and I replied "I would really like a side of spicy Mayo please" and she stomped off and came back and sat it down and didn't say anything. Later when the food was finished, we went to the restroom before getting the check while leaving a jacket and bag at the table to indicate we would be right back. When walking back to the table, 3 people were yelling "there they are there they are!!!" and it was really embarrassing. I guess they thought we left? When asking for the check, she said she wanted to give it to us while we stood by the door instead of letting us go back to the table. After we paid and went back to the table, I came back STILL trying to be polite and give her a tip...she told me to keep it because it resembled my fortune. Basically insinuating that along with her terrible service, she also didn't appreciate any sort of tip for being a terrible server. SHE WAS AWFUL. Update: I found the server's name. I typically do not leave reviews. I have to, after our experience at Ninki in Nashville. Because our child is 11, we were forced to order an adult meal for her. Ok, fine. Apparently- kids are only 10 and under. Rude waitress but great chef who was entertaining. I learned a lesson and we should have decided to leave after reading the menu and most definitely after the ordering process with the waitress. An automatic gratuity on hibachi only GUARANTEES terrible service. Do not expect to be treated well here. Do expect to be gouged and auto-gratuitied. Asked for a to-go water and was brought something that was NOT water. Waitress denied. I went to her at her station and politely asked that I get actual water. Not whatever it was she concocted in the cup. The second to-go cup actually contained water but she continued to deny and I was floored that she really brought me a disgusting cup of chemical water. Gross, what a shame we wasted time and money here. Had there been a way to contact the restaurant on their website via email- I would have taken my complaints directly to them. Don't go with your kids unless you like ordering children adult priced hibachi meals and then boxing that food up and eventually throwing it away. read more

Honestly will never ever come here again, I came here for my bday and ordered the chicken hibachi and when the plate was sat on the table, I noticed a very foul smell and wasn't sure what it was. After observing, I noticed the chicken was spoiled. I got up from my seat and asked for help at the front, I waited 5 mins and my server finally came to me and tried to offer me another chicken hibachi lol, I said no. The manager never came to the table to check on me or say sorry etc, which bothered me because I'm in the service industry and a manager should always be involved for something like that. We tried Ninki last night. First, the qualifiers: our first time, ordered sushi rolls from the menu in addition to the seaweed salad (typical) and miso soup (not typical and not outstanding). Second this was carry out. May have been a completely different story had we sat down. My wife ordered her favorite Dragon roll. She rates it as typical as well, not outstanding. I ordered the spicy spider roll- soft shell crab. It was presented as an average roll with imitation crab meat as one of the fillers! There was no evidence of soft-shell crab anywhere which usually can be seen within the roll, hence the 'spider roll' name.. I know soft shell crab...lived in Baltimore and have visited Japan. Instead there was the unidentified glob of barely edible mixture. Ate what I could and finished the rolls to have dinner with my wife, but left the topping to return to Ninki for a refund. The owner refused to give me a refund on the Spider roll without returning the whole item! He also insinuated that he wasn't certain what the returned mixture was even though his kitchen made it. I figure it was a way of spreading the real crab thin, whatever there was of it, to reduce costs, but it doesn't work! I also questioned the use of imitation crab in a spider roll. He said that the Japanese always uses this in their rolls. Not true and was not a part of the ingredients listed. I don't know maybe this guy has never been to Japan? I left without resolution. There are so many other ways our conversation might have ended if he was customer oriented instead of throwing up roadblocks with denials and their made up rules about refunds. He has never learned to create a satisfactory ending for both the customer and the restaurant. read more

Came in at 7:30 on a Saturday night and was seated within 20 minutes. There was some back and forth with the hostess and other guests as them came in since they don't have a waiting area and the lobby was being filled with the cold air from the front doors opening. It took another bit for the server to come around and get drinks, and our server did forget a tea and then the tea pitcher at our hibachi table. My friend asked for a steak and shrimp hibachi and then had to stop the server again to clarify he wanted them as whole orders over the combo he had written down. The chef was incredible and did the typical hibachi style cooking adding in a few things I hadn't seen before. Food was good, but portions were not great. I got the chicken and even with ordering two entrees my friend and barely any leftovers while I had a whole box to take home. The added gratitude is nice and takes some time away at the end trying to do mental math to get the tip right. Since it's in the Kroger parking lot off white bridge the parking is easier than most places now. read more

We have been going to Ninki for years. The quality of the food is really good with nice portions. I would like to give them 5 stars but I have settled on 3 due to our last experience a couple weeks ago. We went early, around 5:15 so it was nice and quiet. This restaurant is very dark, dated and is in need of a good cleaning and renovation. We will probably not return due to this because we can go to a cleaner and more updated restaurant with the same quality food. read more

Well, I decided to have lunch at ninki like many other times before this pandemic, first of all i joticed the chef that used to make the sushi is no longer working...i ordered the avocado salad , not the same. I ordered salmon Nigiri.. and let me tell you, theres something about huge portions of salmon on nigiri that just makes me uncomfortable eating it,.the textures was very very squishy, like it pretty much dissolved in my mouth. We had an AWESOME experience here. My husband and I went to Ninki a couple of days ago for the first time, and it definitely exceeded our expectations. The service was amazing. I was actually surprised by this because I had read some reviews on here, saying they experienced horrible service or slow service, but we experienced nothing short of wonderful service. Jackie was our server & she stayed on top of everything, never letting our drinks become empty, checking on us, etc. She also offered to box our leftovers & asked if we wanted to-go drinks. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband and I ordered steak & shrimp hibachi. We ordered our steak rare & our chef Gabriel cooked it PERFECTLY & the flavors were delicious. Gabriel was great! He was engaging, while still letting us have our time on date night. The fried rice was amazing, as well as the veggies, miso soup, the salad with ginger dressing, and the hibachi sauces. We didn't have anything that wasn't delicious. We also ordered sushi, and had an equally great experience. We ordered Salmon & Yellowtail nigiri, and let me tell you, those were the biggest portions we have EVER had, and we've eaten sushi all along the east coast from NYC to Florida. So this was pretty surprising (and awesome) to us! But not only were the portions generous, the fish was incredibly fresh, and it was cut to perfection, thanks to their amazing executive sushi chef. He is the only sushi chef that cuts the nigiri. I also ordered an Alaska roll (salmon & avocado). It was simple & delicious. You also get so much food for such reasonable prices, which makes it even better. Don't be deterred by the fact that it's in a strip mall. It's a hidden little gem! We will definitely be going back for more date nights. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves sushi and/or hibachi. read more

I've been here a few times. The hibachi is decent but I think the best value is the bento box. It comes with so much food, it's hard to make a clean plate. My only complaint is the bathrooms are a bit crusty but if you don't visit those on your dinner, you're good to go! read more

ZERO STARS Should've read and believed all the negative reviews before coming here. Absolutely awful service! They sat us in the corner of an empty section and then sat a family closer to the sushi bar 15 minutes later and within a minute's of them sitting down they received water and service while we sat there for 15 minutes with not a word said to us. Unsure if it was because of age and race but honestly I have nothing else to go off of. Just hoping they read this review and don't make any other customers feel this way. If I could give this restaurant a zero, I would. I went in with my brother to have a nice meal. We were seated in a corner and were never approached by a server. After about twenty minutes of patiently waiting, a six top was seated near us and they received IMMEDIATE assistance. I asked the server why he had passed us by and he rudely blew me off. After receiving that treatment, we decided to leave. As we approached the lobby, the hostess attempted to scurry us back to our table without addressing the situation. I was craving sushi and this wasn't too far from the Green Hills area. I was immediately sat at the bar and a waitress promptly served me. My sushi was brought out incredibly fast and was tasty. The Crazy Dragon Roll was a little spicier than I anticipated and my water was never refilled by the waitress. Our recent Yelp's Cravin' For Asian Weekly Yelp (http://www.yelp.com/weekly?edition_id=wONFT-H307gq1Weu0g6nIg) informed me that Ninki offers 50% off an alluring assortment of sushi at all times. No kidding! Sounds too good to be true, right? This is precisely why I had to venture out to Belle Meade for my veg sushi fix... well that is until I saw the fantastic lunch bento box deal at $6.95. Everything from the 4 pieces of sushi to the salad, miso soup, tempura, and rice were excellent. The portions were just right but the standout was the miso soup! You may not think that miso is very exciting but I appreciated the big chunks of shitake mushrooms and robust flavor. Yum in the tum. Don't judge this book by it's cover either. From the exterior, Ninki is nestled inside a dated strip mall but when you walk through the doors, it is a spacious and dark place to relax and enjoy tasty but affordable Asian cuisine. If you're planning a dinner for a large group or a dinner party, the space has a couple of private areas that accommodate and there appears to be some flexibility in the layout of the space. I will definitely come back to Ninki but on my next trip, I will try the deeply discounted rolls instead. Definitely consider this spot for lunch or even a date too! read more

Ninki was exactly what a three-start review entails - A-OK. If you are reading this review prior to November 15th, 2011, you should run not walk to Ninki because ALL sushi rolls are 50% off until then!! And the sake tonight was $1... that's right, $1. Um, it tasted a few steps up from isopropyl alcohol, but it was $1. (And you don't have to order the cheap hot sake like I did. ALL sake tonight was $1.) The rolls and nigiri I had were good. Thankfully they were 50% off, because I agree with other reviews that the menu does seem expensive. They were "specialty" rolls I ordered, I realize, but still - $14 and $9 for a roll. Seems like a lot. The variety is interesting. There are many rolls, but commonly found things like spicy tuna or just salmon are missing. However, cream cheese and/or avocado are very prevalent on the menu. I asked if the "Fire" rolls were spicy. They are entitled "Fire" rolls because they actually come ON FIRE. Yes, lit on fire. This is a cool presentation, with the only downside being that it halfway cooks some of the raw fish! I'd go to Ninki if you're in the area. read more

Last night we went to this restaurant for my mothers birthday with my children. The moment we walked in the very nice hostess welcomed us in and brought us to the hibachi table. It was a very clean and quiet restaurant with very nice entertainment. The chef was so funny and the food was surprisingly good. We ordered onion soup, fried rice, chicken, steak, salad, and vegetables. The food was amazing and my family loved it. Don't be turned off by the strip mall location and impression that it's tiny. I was surprised to walk in and go down a hallway to be greeting by a great looking, HUGE space with ample seating and hibachi tables! My friends took me here for dinner when I was in town for a visit. We had no problems getting seated right away on a friday night (though most people were probably still at the Preds game or watching on TV). Our waiter was very pleasant and on top of our order and refills. And how awesome is the half price sushi!?! And on a Friday night?! It wasn't as good as my favorite place in my hometown, but it was delicious and CRAZY affordable (I paid for myself and my friend who was letting me stay with her, and my bill was about as much as just my meal at my usual place at home!).
