So, Ninki was pretty good. The service was was adequate, the group I was with was quite a handful. I would not come to this place for the rolls, they are definitely designed for people that just like rolls, not fish. We ordered a whole bunch, and only 2 were standoutish. The wasabi roll was ok, and the sumokaro(or some shit like that). The other rolls were just ok(the rolls a koto are way better, and a much better value). The other stuff was standout though, the yellowtail collar special was delicious, so was the monkfish liver special. That's not something you can get very good versions of in many places in Nashville, so kudos. We also had salmon roe with raw quail egg on top and it was delicious, really good. They had good sea urchin also, really fresh. The sashimi was good, very fresh. The prices were pretty reasonable, and the wine prices were pretty reasonable also. They have hibachi also, don't know how good it is. The food took a bit to come out, but we ordered an enormous amount of food, and it was kind of expected. The stuff was fresh, and well prepared so it's ok that it took a little long. It wasn't anything crazy. The service staff was ok, they're kind of new at it(at least ours was). It is not as good as koto, but is definitely a good second choice. I will definitely go here over virago, samurai, pm, or any of the other places I've been to in Nashville so far. Sushi yes...HIBACHI NEVER! The chef (from Wyoming) was sarcastically arrogant and rude. He threw the food on the plate, was unengaged, unenthused...NOTHING like the great chefs at Tokyo! Coming in from a Bellvue roadtrip we stopped in here at around 3.00 pm on a Tuesday. There were still a few stragglers from lunch - the vibe is dark and soothing, gentle Moby tracks were wafting and the lighting low. Service prompt and attentive, panko fried avocado appy was delicious with hot mayo. The Wasabi roll was beautifully presented and tasty but devoid of wasabi, no matter plenty to dip into on the other plates. The Maguro and Saba were both delicious and generously cut. I really enjoy this place. They have solid sushi and great deals. My favorite is probably the rainbow roll. I don't usually care for California Rolls, but the fish on top changes the taste up enough for me to really enjoy it. Their miso soup is pretty good as well. Not the best I've ever had, but nowhere near the worst! I haven't tried their hibachi, but I want to. I'll probably post another review when I do, because there are never many reviews about hibachi... Service is a little iffy, but my friends and I brought a baby in that was throwing rice everywhere and they were super cool about it, so you really can't ask for much more than that. Your stereotypical Western-style hybrid East Asian cuisine. The focus tends to be on Japanese food (sushi, bento box, etc), but they incorporate Korean elements as well such as their stone pot bibimbap - not as good as Korea House but still solid. If you are looking for decent sushi and Western-friendly Japanese food this is your place. There are staff that can speak English/Chinese, English/Japanese (shoutout Ming - he's the best), so very accommodating to diverse backgrounds. I give 5 stars not because of anything particularly special with regard to the food, but because of their consistency and hospitality. You won't be disappointed unless you come in expecting New York or Tokyo level, authentic Japanese food. read more

I went today for lunch with my family. Restaurant was pretty empty. I usually come here only for dinner, but today I decided to try lunch. I really disappointed with their waitress. We had to wait 15minutes for her to come and take the order. I asked to hostess to let our server come and take the order. After that she came late too. She didn't even say hi. ( by the way I really didn't like her on first time when we went there. Jackie is the best. ) I gave these stars just for food. They were very delicious. Probably the best sushi I've had in Nashville. What looks like a small storefront from the outside is a really large restaurant inside, with a mixture of regular and hibachi tables. We were here with a large group (15+) and they gave us a private room, which was perfect, because it meant that we could have loud cross-table conversations without bothering anyone else. Service was a little uneven, but that could have been due to the enormous size of our table. Overall, a great experience and I will be back. read more

I stumbled upon this place on a Sunday evening, and let me just say: WOW! There were only a few good sushi joints in Nashville and I had grown way tired of them all. The outside is kind of strange--bordering on tacky-- but inside it's actually quite trendy and nice. I sat at the sushi bar. The server convinced me to buy a whole bottle of Kung Fu Girl, because on Sundays they do 20% off wine by the bottle. Plus, I would be able to take the remaining wine home with me. Yummy. I was unsure of what I wanted to eat, so the head sushi chef asked me what kind of fish I preferred and then got to work. You see, I like it when a man can make a selection for me and actually get it right... and he did! Instead of tossing my food over the bar like most sushi chefs, he took the time to walk around and place the most beautiful looking salmon tartare in front of me. Presentation gets an A+ for sure. The salmon was very fresh, as was the avocado and the ginger. This dish was so wonderfully delicate, yet perfectly filling. I really took my time with it and savored each bite. The chef then asked if I liked eel, and OF COURSE I do, so he then prepared a small dish featuring some very yummy unagi. The service was great. Very consistent and not too overbearing. Ninki's is one of my go-to lunch break stops, since they're close to work. The service is always great, the ladies up front are always very nice. I always sit at the sushi bar, where you can watch the rolls being made. You know you're getting fresh stuff when you can see them slice the fish. The sushi itself is good, albeit a little too loosely wrapped for my taste. The chicken bento box is a great choice, you get an awesome variety at a good price! I really try to like this place but some days it's such a struggle. The sushi has always been great, yet the service continues to dwindle. On today's visit we were seated quickly and placed our order after a few minutes. Our waiter was very nice but he was totally lost and slow. We had a table of four and instead of writing down our order he attempted to remember it all. Boy was that a disaster. We waited for 30 minutes for our sushi to come. Our drinks were never refilled and sat obviously empty our entire visit. Maybe our visit was a off day or it could be the standard operating for this place. Horrible customer service, we have been eating here for years and typically the food quality is good tonight it was so fishy I could barely open the box. We were there on time they said 20-25 minutes 45 minutes later the food was ready and we drove home (20min) away. We then started to plate the food which was literally $75 worth of three day old fish it was nauseating. I figured hey everyone has a bad day so let me call them and tell them my concern the vegetable tempura was edible the white rice fine but the sushi disgusting--I asked for the manager who told me I jostled the box and mixed the food and that is why it was bad--btw everything was in a separate box I then explained we are long time customers look us up and she said I won't do anything unless u bring the toxic food back to us and prove it--at this point I decided I will eat the $75 rather than the rotten fish and never eat there again!!! read more

Ninki is a Japanese restaurant with a friendly environment. It is comprised of a sushi bar, sit down area, and a hibachi grill. There is usually no wait when you get there. I have been multiple times throughout the day, and I have never had to wait. It has a very organized set up. The hibachi and the tables are separate which is very nice. This is very convenient so it does not feel like people are sitting on top of each other. The workers are very deft and very kind, and they always say hello. They even ask me about my day. The prices vary depending on what section you eat at. I usually order the chicken fried rice when sitting at the tables, and that is eight dollars. If I am eating hibachi, I order steak hibachi double rice no vegetables. I have never had the sushi because I am too scared to try it, but I bet that it is very good based on their other food. There is a wide variety of what you can order there, including salmon, steak, shrimp, and chicken. I suggest getting their fried ice cream. I had it for the first time last night; it was so good. I would definitely order it again for a special occasion. I eat here about once and week, and it is totally worth it. I could eat here every single day, but my parents suppress me. read more

First off, service is great on a Sunday afternoon. I've visited Ninki in the past on a weekend evening and it is busy. We sat sushi side. Our server was definitely great at upselling but we knew we wanted specifically here. She was knowledgeable about everything. She made sure to check our sake bottle regularly to see if we wanted more. She did this all while handling several tables around us. I was with 2 other ladies for a sushi lunch. We ordered a lot of food. Our server was great at slowly bringing out our food allowing us to have space on our table and enjoy each plate. Ok so now onto the sushi and plates. Pork dumplings/Gyozas were cooked perfectly not overly pan fried. I enjoyed it. The tartare appetizer with salmon, yellowtail and tuna- omg this was my favorite! I will be ordering this every time! For $15, you get plenty of protein. The sauces on the plate go perfectly with the tartare. The wasabi aioli here is perfect! Can I get some more? Please and thank you. Sashimi platter- please know that the slices of are not your skimpy slices! I was expecting thin slices like most mediocre sushi restaurants. No, these are big slices of high grade fish. The tuna was so good! We did order a roll- honestly it was good, raw fish was involved but I can't for the life of me remember what it was... oops! They do carry Uni here, roe and quail eggs... I don't eat this but my girlfriend swears they prepare it very well here. The Roe is not overly salty like most places so the quail egg is a perfect balance. Hamachi Kama- divine here. If you've never had this... look it up and give it a try. They do give you a sauce to go with it but we made our own. Overall experience after 3 bottles of sale with 3 ladies was superb. The office peeps decided to go out for hibachi today and Ninki's is where we wound up. I was thrilled that the sushi rolls were 50% off during the lunch hour. There were some decent choices as well. Three of us decided to split a couple of rolls and also order the hibachi meals as well. The wasabi roll was my favorite. It was just zingy enough without being overwhelming. The crazy, spicy roll was not overly spicy and had a nice crunch with the addition of a fried pepper in it. Both were good - not over the top good, but for the price, it hit the spot nicely. The hibachi was your standard fare. It was less than $7 for the chicken lunch portion. And boy did I get my $7 worth! There was a ton of food and I also was served a bowl of miso soup as well as a small salad. For it being a hibachi grill, we got out of there relatively quickly as well. Overall, service was good. Our glasses never went empty and everything moved along at a decent pace. The hibachi "show" was not as dazzling as it is at places like Kobe or Goten, but it was fun nonetheless. Yes, this little hole in the wall in the Belle Meade shopping center is certainly easy to drive past; however, for the price point it is worth making the trek if you are in the neighborhood. Personally, I would not make the drive all the way from Hermitage, but since it is relatively close to my office it is good on the occasion that we want to venture out. read more

The deals that are offered at Ninki are great (who wouldn't want 50% off sushi rolls!), but the actual sushi isn't that great. My sushi was very bland and had no taste to it. As a Ninki lunch regular who has been coming to this establishment weekly, I feel it is time to inform the masses of what I've learned. Please note, I am not a huge fan of dinner here; the 4 stars I am awarding for *Lunch* only and here is why... 1. $7-8 for Hibachi during lunch served with a meat, vegetables, fried rice, a salad, and soup. That is ridiculously cheap. I seriously think they are losing money on this transaction. (Just don't tell them that). 2. Half price eat-in sushi. While the original price is moderately inflated, the half off discount makes the a price of a role very reasonable/economical. If you can't fill up on hibachi alone, throw a roll or two on as well. 3. Refillable soda. This is one of the few Asian restaurants were you aren't served a stupid can of soda that you have to pay individually for. You can have all the diet Coke you want here. Thank god. 4. There is always a ton of convenient parking. (No making loops around midtown looking for that one space on a side street that everyone else also glanced over.) Please note the cons of Ninki: 1. Service is generally slow. If you're in a rush, don't chance it and come here. I think this is especially true at the hibachi tables. While there yesterday, I am pretty sure there was a 15 minute period where they forgot I was there. No harm because I wasn't in a hurry to get my bill. 2. Windowless dining room. I'm a fan of restaurants with windows (personal preference) so coming here on a nice weekend afternoon hurts my soul a little bit. Hate sunshine and good views? Then this should always be your go-to spot. 3. Dinner prices are fine. Not cheap, not overly expensive. Meh. read more

A friend and I were looking for a Japanese restaurant to dine in at, and this was our only choice during covid. We were pretty excited to try this place out, even though the reviews were not great. Our waitress was very kind and friendly, we enjoyed her service. However, the sushi is subpar-nothing special at all. We did not order anything from the hibachi menu, so I cannot say anything about that, but if you are looking for somewhere filling and tasteful, I wouldn't recommend here. I have never seen a restaurant so stingy with their ingredients, up to the rice. The rolls were half the size of what I normally see at all the other Japanese restaurants I've eaten at (plus the one I work at in Memphis). After spending $75 on three rolls, two sushi orders, and a bottle of sake, we left feeling hungry and dissatisfied. This was my first time eating hibachi, and I had a horrible experience. The older female waitress was super rude and did not pay much attention to the table. The chef took forever with the food so the plate was basically cold by the time we received the complete meal. The drinks and shots were watered down. So this isn't my first time visiting... I've eaten here a few times before and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. I believe that when visiting this place the hibachi grill is best part of eating here. You can watch them prepare your food and the will actually cook it with decency! Don't do the regular setting... I have my reasons. All and all the service is 10xbetter when you go "hibachi grill" this place received this rating from me because the service and food has not been consistent. I would definitely come back and go hibachi.. other than that it's a pass from me. The worse is tasting salmon that tastes like it was old and they were trying to get rid of it. Toodles!
