When wonderful cafe Nirvana Soul Coffee popped up on my screen with an offer on Too Good to Go to grab a surprise bag, let's go! Half art space, half inventive bakery-cafe, taking in the cafe is a visual and olfactory treat. I mean .. butter.. chocolate .. ube.. and really good coffee! Two surprise bags yielded delicious pastries like croissant, ube and sticky rice cake, vegetable quiche (decadently creamy), a savory cheese and dill tart. They have banana cream pie and sweet potato pie! It's like Craftsman & Wolves and a southern bakery had a baby: Inventive, unique combined with the familiar. My cousin had been telling me about the Black Owned Coffee shop fro years. The only downfall was it was in San Jose. I was excited when I found the SF location.. I did have to illegally park because parking is scarce but the risk was worth it. I loved the vibe as soon as I walked in. It was bright and vibrant. I was greeted with a smile when I stepped through the threshold. I asked the cashier what I should try and just let her pick for me. Iced Honey Lavender Latte with NonFat Milk 10/10 definitely recommend. They had pastries and merch as well.. I will definitely risk a ticket and be back to try something else!! read more

Came up to the city via Caltrain to visit a friend. We didn't drink coffee this morning so we grabbed one here. We got the lavender honey latter- hot with almond milk. Done well. Staff were nice. My husband used their bathroom and he says it's clean. Small place though. A lot of bar seating but there's a couple outdoor seating as well. read more

A very cute spot!!! I always love trying different coffee spots, and this one in downtown SJ is great! I had an iced mabuhay ube latte with oatmilk and it was great! Not too sweet, the coffee wasn't too acidic, and it was pretty balanced :) The staff seem to enjoy their jobs, there are cute little polaroids of them at work and around having fun! One of the few coffee cafe's near San Francisco Caltrain station - open at 7am weekdays! I got a chai latte & added some raw sugar to my sweetness taste. It was good - 3.5 stars! I do want to grab something hot to drink for the train journey down the Peninsula! No more of Phil's Coffee...such weak beverages. The service was prompt - 4 stars! They have pastries & make (!) waffles. The interior is very colorful & cosy with art from a black artist. 4stars. Nirvana Soul is a cute little coffee shop that opened up right next to Cafe Okawari in mission bay. The vibes inside are very cute and retro with tons of fuchsia pink. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming, and the drink menu is very unique. When I went I decided to get the banana coffee latte with oat milk the drink tasted like creamy banana. The banana flavor was mild however but the drink was still good and creamy banana tasting. The banana flavor also did not taste artificial which I appreciated. I definitely recommend trying out another drink though if you like bolder flavors, like I normally prefer. read more

This is a tiny and super cheerful shop full of good things with outstanding customer service. If I regularly took the train I would regularly patronize them... They show local artists work which I appreciate, have a couple of tables out front which are lovely on a sunny day, and roast their own coffee (which is really good) in San Jose. They open early so you can get your fix before boarding the train. Sadly, they also close early ish so they'll likely be closed when you roll back into town. I was so happy to skip Starbucks and support a local business! read more

Nirvana Soul is a cute and vibrant conveniently located within walking distance of Caltrain, Oracle Park, China Basin, etc. They offer a nice selection of food, pastries, and unique lattes. I stopped by on a weekday morning. There was a short line when I arrived, but it moved quite quickly. Most people were just grabbing coffee and pastries to-go, so despite the small space, there was seating available both indoors (high tops and a bench) and outdoors (cafe tables and chairs on the sidewalk, with some foot traffic). I ordered the mabuhay ube latte (espresso, steamed milk, ube, and coconut) and the chorizo con queso waffle (Spanish chorizo, Oaxaca cheese, and jalapeno). The latte was def yummy - flavorful without being too sweet or overpowering. The waffle was cooked perfectly: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and a good balance of sweet and savory with a bit of butter and syrup. It was pretty filling, so if I were to order it again, I would probably save half or share with another person. I can't wait to come back and try more of their unique lattes and goodies! read more

This small coffee shop has lots of character and great vibes starting from the two ladies that assisted me, I was greeted w a big warm smile and that already made all the difference. I ordered a vegan muffin and it was moist and delicious and not on a heavy side, not dense at all, not too sweet. The dirty Diana was wonderful, not too sweet w that chai hint, I do wish that it was little hotter by that is my personal preference. The coffee shop offers academia milk which is amazing, I do not know any other coffee shop that offers macadamia nut milk as non dairy options, kudos !!! There were a few seats inside and three tables outside. I sat outside for about an hour and the traffic was steady. Food: I really enjoyed the waffles! I wasn't able to eat it right away, so they got soggy. I popped them in the air fryer and they crisped right back up. I ordered a chorizo waffle for myself and a churro waffle for my husband. We loved them both! They were light and crispy. My husband said that the churro waffle was sweet but not too sweet. The savory chorizo waffle was yummy with syrup for a savory/salty treat and without syrup too. I also ordered a lightly sweetened Celebration Latte. I wanted to try one of their signature drinks. I thought it was okay and maybe would try it fully sweet next time. So happy to see Nirvana Soul open a location in the city! This location is cozy but bright with a couple of places to sit. Its iconic bright pink, yellow, and purple decor is so fun, and the baristas were so warm and welcoming to us upon our arrival. There were a couple of people alongside us for our drinks, but it only took about 5 minutes. I got the hot Lover's Quarrel, and it's just as good as their original location. The beautiful pink color matches the sweet harmony of the chai spices and the kick of cayenne and turmeric just really makes this drink a perfect start to a morning. I saw Nirvana Soul had opened up 1 block from my office near the ballpark and a few public transit stops (and some bike lanes! We love bikability and public transit) and had to stop by! I came by after a late lunch and they were still pretty busy. I love the cheery, bright interior ambiance. The pink and the local artwork (go Warriors and Giants!) is cheery. There's cute artistic writing on the wall and ceiling. Service is very very good and friendly and helpful. They sell merch and have a few seats and tables inside, but not many. My iced Mabuhay Ube Latte (espresso + steamed milk + ube + coconut, $6 for medium vs $6.75 for large) was delicious. It was just the right amount of sweet and satisfying. I will definitely be back just for this, though my interest is so piqued to try some of their other drinks like the celebration latte or the white rose or the honey lavender lattes. It's not often that I'm wowed by coffee that is catered to work events but man did Nirvana Soul deliver. Our office had them bring in some lattes, and if my memory serves me correctly there was an ube flavor? All I remember is that the flavor was sweet without being overpowering, and the nutty flavor complimented the coffee so well. We had a bunch of Nirvana Soul Coffee brought in for a work event and IT WAS SO GOOD! It was later in the day, and I had already enjoyed quite a bit of caffeine during the day but the thought of a nice hot cup of ube coffee was too good to pass up. The flavor was smooth and not overly sweet. Even though we had drinks in coffee carafes to pour and not individual drinks, the quality was spot on. This SJ rooted cafe has finally made it's way into the city! Their cute cafe is filled with fun, bright colors that fit the bright mood. They have a great menu of different tea and coffee drinks that come in cool flavor combinations. A hidden gem cafe by the 4th and King Caltrain station! The staff are extremely friendly, and after asking for recommendations I got a banana chai latte and the last sweet potato pie, and both were delicious! The latte tasted just like Korean banana milk, although I would have preferred a stronger chai flavor. The sweet potato pie was a perfect pick me up -- creamy and not too sweet. This has quickly become one of my favorite cafes in the city. It was recommended to me by a friend and now I can't stop going. The cafe itself is small (no public bathroom) but bright, colorful, and beautifully decorated. I have only tried the dirty banana chai and it just hits every time! I have been coming to this location since it opened in Mission Bay but today was the last straw. Every time I come here on Wednesday mornings there is a barista that always gets my order wrong and does not take accountability when told about the mistake. I am usually not the type to complain but it's been a consistent thing with this particular barista. I usually order the nirvana peach and iced banana chai with oat milk drinks, and churro waffles. When the order is right it tastes amazing, no complaints. Today I ordered the same thing and asked for no coffee in my banana chai. When I brought the drink back I told her that it had coffee in it and she said "no it doesn't but I'll make you a new one anyways". Her response was unprofessional and took no accountability for her mistake. This wasn't the first time. Another time I ordered the Nirvana peach and the tea tasted different. She told me it's the same so I assumed it was because there was no peach syrup in it. So I asked for her to remake it, she tells me next time order it extra sweet and she hands me the syrup in a cup. I never have to order extra syrup because I don't like too much sweetness. I added the syrup she gave me and it honestly didn't taste the same, actually made it taste worst. I had no energy to go back to get my money back. I am a tea drinker and know when tea has been sitting out for too long or old. I stopped ordering it for a while then wanted to see if they changed the type of tea and it actually tasted how I remembered, which confirmed that I was right before about the tea being off tasting. Another time there was a fake eyelash on top of my waffle. It was husband that found it in his waffle actually so we stopped ordering the waffles for a while. Upon observation I don't see them wearing gloves when they handle the food, just tongs. Also it always feels like I'm pulling teeth when I ask for a neighborhood discount. If it's something you don't want to offer, simply state that. Outside of these complaints, I do like the music and art in the cafe. Usually greeted when I come to the register depending on who is behind the register. I want to continue supporting black owned businesses but this was the last straw. Unfortunately I will not be continuing to come to this location but if I'm in San Jose I might drop by again. They were super hospitable and made me want to come back. Do better. When the customer complains, believe them. Don't make them feel like they are liars and trying to make your job harder. My feedback is intentional and hope they can learn from this. read more
