This was my first time here. I simply went to buy a Lb. of coffee after looking at their website and seeing it was near another location I needed to go for the day. The shop is nice and the decor colorful. There were 2 barista's making drinks and 1 person to deal with the pastries and cash register. Several orders with drinks and pastries and you have wait for each Person? They need to add a way to scan your purchase and go without having to wait for them to assemble each food order while using technology this is the most inefficient checkout procedure. In addition they didn't have the Kungahara Rwandan coffee I saw on the website. I don't live in the mission, but I had heard of Ritual Coffee Roasters because of various social media posts, etc. But when a friend asked me to meet them at this coffee spot, I figured it would be a good opportunity to get to the other side of the city and explore a bit where I don't usually get to be! The space was absolutely gorgeous and incredibly spacious with copious amounts of seating and my favorite part, lots of plants and greenery! They also had an outdoor seating area at the back of the shop but I didn't go to look at it, and it was also almost 85 degrees outside I didn't opt to getting a coffee or drink on this visit but I was hungry and needed sustenance, and so I asked the person working the counter about the pastries, they happily explained each one and where they came from (which bakery, etc) and I chose the banana bread which was DELICIOUS. This place is awesome, and I'm usually pretty hesitant to say positive things about city spots that get a lot of hype, but this one has hype for a reason! read more

Some time back, while visiting San Francisco, I made a project for myself: visit five bakeries and five coffee roasters in five hours, searching for the best kouign-amann and the best cortado. I'll reserve discussion of my negative experiences for reviews of the spots that created them. The good news is that b. patisserie makes the best kouign-amann I've ever tasted, across the US and in several other countries; and that Ritual served me an ideal cortado. While on my whirlwind tour, I learned that around town, the cortado is mostly referred to as a "Gibraltar" by people who've been sucked into the Blue Bottle vortex, that company having turned its back on a century of Spanish history to brand the drink after the glass in which they serve it. Don't call a cortado a Gibraltar. The Spanish invented the damned thing, and I believe that they retain the naming rights. Se llama "cortado." The blend leaned more toward strong coffee flavor, not bitter or burnt, maybe a little dark chocolate. Both shots lacked body -- thin, no creamy mouthfeel. The people are generally friendly and I usually have a good time coming here. I like that they change up the art featured on the wall every so often. They also put up posters for local events that are happening in the area, very cute neighbor-y vibes. Only downside is no wifi or outlet. This specific location also has pastries from other bakeries so that's nice if you are looking for a quick bite. I like their lattes, pourover, coffee related items. Most recently, the seasonal menu has Cherry Bomb, which is espresso and cherry syrup etc. I enjoyed it (more on the sweet side), and gotta make sure to stir well before drinking, otherwise you get a mouthful of syrup. I personally didn't like their matcha drink as much. They have this fancy matcha machine that grinds fresh matcha leaves. However, I find the drink to be a bit grainy. I decided to try Ritual one day i was craving a vanilla latte (this was around december of 2024). At this time, they don't not serve vanilla lattes. An employee kindly recommended another specialty seasonal iced espresso drink that I sadly cannot remember the name of. The coffee was just ok to me especially for the price and small size that's offered. It's flavors created a combination that was not super enjoyable to me. The espresso flavor was there, though. I wanted a cup of coffee and stopped by this place as we were walking by. Deciding to try something different, I went for the Chinatown VIP. It took about 5-10 minutes to get our drink. The interior looked pretty nice, clean, and classy with a good amount of space to sit down and chat or do work. They initially forgot about the cookie but grabbed it for us when we asked. The drink was interesting and did taste like Hong Kong milk tea with a slight roastiness from the coffee. To be honest, it was much more milk tea forward and not as coffee-like as I expected, and I didn't really like that. I'm not sure what about it I didn't like, maybe I thought the floweriness of the milk tea and the coffee flavor did not go well together. The sesame cookie was just the same kind you can get from Asian supermarkets.
