I planned this visit to Golden Goat in about 5 seconds on a train platform about 30 miles away with that handy dandy tool called Google Maps. We already knew we needed food and drink before even setting a foot on San Francisco pavement. With a couple of zooms, swipes, and taps Golden Goat was determined winner. Close to Caltrain, check; serves tea and coffee, double check; will have a bathroom, done. With this kind of limited inspection a few things were not realized. It's a teeny tiny place located around the corner from the physical address. Customer traffic seems to stem heavily from nearby workers--all young with the customary key cards hanging from their waistbands and all engaged in conversations that sound like out of office meetings. The line stretching into the alley is scary long when you need something now, now, now. But if you have a little time and want to stop somewhere that feels special and a treat, Golden Goat works. I ordered a pretty boring drink because I wanted a tasty, too. The espresso had good flavor and it was the first time a barista treated me to some steamed milk art. The croissant was so flaky and flavorful, the best I've ever had. They even offered to heat it which I immediately accepted. Extremely tasty and aesthetic spot. My partner and I were looking for a quick coffee to grab. I will say it took a bit of time, but we went during lunch and it was busy. This is a neighborhood coffee place, mostly for grab and go with limited seating . The staffs are very friendly and great service . They sell pastries too and we got the ham & cheese croissants. They make exceptional coffee with rich aroma and flavors. There was a line there around 10:30 am but it moved fast . We prefer the ice matcha latte with soy milk and orange cinnamon cappuccino. Finally got around to trying Golden Goat Coffee after having it bookmarked for so long! I came on a Wednesday afternoon an hour before closing and the line was still pretty long! They often stop the line closer to the closing time so I would recommend coming as early as possible! Golden Goat Coffee is literally a hidden gem as it's tucked away on an alley street. They're on Varney Place and kind of in front of Shell, so on the other side of Brannan street. Their store is super small, so it's more of a grab and go spot. However, they do have a clean bathroom (which can be rare in SF!). The line usually goes by pretty fast and they're even faster making the drinks! We opted to order the daily special drink, which was a Blueberry Matcha Latte! I honestly think their matcha is smooth and solid and the blueberry bottom adds a sweet, fruity touch. Found this on yelp. Line down the street which is a good sign. I got the Lavender latte and honestly very disappointing. Tasted like lavender milk that was lukewarm. I'm not sure they even put espresso in it. After the long wait I was bummed. However everyone else I was with had great drinks. Glad I got here when I did, right at opening, because there was a big line that started to form only moments after that. Not only because of the line, but because the coffee was delicious and a perfect way to start my day. I had seen this place on one of my neighborhood walks, and the line I had seen previously caught my interest. This particular day I went with the Honey Lavender Latte, which was so good. I tend to like my coffee a little on the sweeter side, and although this maybe wasn't as sweet as I would have liked, I completely enjoyed it. Additionally, their daily menu didn't list the Golden Goat Latte, which is what I definitely wanted to try, given their name. They notified me you can still order it, even if it isn't listed. Golden Goat has been at the top of my cafe list forever! With my best friend home, the one girl I can always cafe hop with, we started our morning here. We both really enjoyed our drinks and the vibe. The cafe reminds me of what I'd find in Asia. A hidden cafe down an alley, literally. It took us some time to find it, but when we did, it was like a watering hole. Ordering is simple: stand in line, order, and pay, then wait to be called. They have a couple of small benches inside, but people primarily grab and go. The vibes were all that--friendly, trendy, and hip. They're also dog-friendly, which is a plus in my eyes. Our drinks came out fast and were good. I really wanted to try their pandan drink, but unfortunately, they didn't have it available. Instead, I got an Iced Banana Bread Matcha with Oat Milk. It was superb. A prevalent banana flavor with some nuttiness and sweetness. It was well-balanced and creamy. I'd order it again. My best friend enjoyed her drink, too! I ended up getting their banana bread latte after I heard they ran out of the seasonal orange cinnamon syrup. It turned out to be delicious! The banana bread latte had a strong banana flavor with tasting artificial or too sweet. It smelled amazing with the coffee aroma and I think it may be the best specialty latte I've had in a while. Unfortunately they didn't have the pandan banana matcha which I've heard so much about, but I tried the banana bread cappuccino, which was good! It was very smooth and lightly sweet -- very drinkable. I didn't taste any banana though. It's also a pretty small cup though for the price. The baristas are super friendly and quick. Although there was a line on a Friday at the 11am, it moved pretty fast. There isn't really any seating inside. Most of the pastries were sold out so I would come earlier nest time. Somehow this became one of my favorite matcha spots in the city, and it's a pity it's tucked away in a little corner in Mission Bay (with difficult to access hours)! Unfortunately, they rotate flavors so they didn't have what I wanted (pandan matcha) but I got to try the honey lavender matcha. Brutal honesty: The matcha isn't great. Despite the beautiful color and innovative flavors (pandan banana!), the most prominent flavor was banana & milk. I couldn't taste the matcha & I wasn't sure if the pandan was really there. The drink didn't taste like much. Employees are efficient despite the huge crowds -- Located in an alley (not too far from main sidewalk), it gets really packed at different times of the day. I took the interns here and it was almost empty. Within a few minutes of standing in line, it go completely packed and had 8 people lining out the door. The ladies working were king and did not shut down my questions of if they still had a specific item in stock (despite a sign indicating they were out). They vibe is relaxed and they do not rush you to take an order. On paper, the new seasonal drinks sound interesting but are a must try -- The last time I went here, there was an orange flavored coffee... not something you hear everyday. However, the flavors balanced well without it being overly sweet. Just a hint of citrus with the bitterness of the coffee. They also take time crafting their drinks with cute designs and presentation. Definitely a huge fan of how they are quick but pay attention to detail. My boyfriend is a big fan of goat milk so I had to bring him here. I didn't realize that not every drink automatically comes with goat milk and it is $1 extra, but that was fine with us (since I personally don't enjoy goat milk). I ordered the honey lavender latte and enjoyed it since I didn't taste overly sweet or artifical and was the right blend with the coffee. My boyfriend ordered a cappuccino with goat milk and he LOVED it! The goat milk was very strong so if you're a goat milk fan, you definitely need to try this place! Parking is a bit difficult (street parking) and the alleyway it's in is narrow so keep that in mind. There's limited bench seating so we didn't stay for too long. Went here before a concert on a Wednesday around noon. The place is very hidden away in an alley but definitely worth finding! The place is cramped but you can clearly see the baristas working their magic behind the register. The person at the register was incredibly nice and made small talk about the concert I was going to. I could tell they care about their work and actually enjoy working there. Unfortunately, they were sold out of majority of the drinks I wanted to try so I opted for a regular matcha latte (4/5 stars). It was a bit milkier than I like, but it was one of the easiest matcha lattes I've drank. It was almost addicting and I could taste the quality of the matcha despite the milkiness surprisingly.
