Fast review:
- This is our second visit here.
- We dined in for Valentine's Day dinner. Even if you have reservations, you will still wait. We waited 18 minutes past our 8:30PM reservation.
- Do not sit at the bar and get a drink if you're waiting for your reserved table. Hostess will forget about you and seat other people who will come in after you.
- The bartender will yell at you for his mistake.
- The waiter will scold you for not eating their not-so-fresh oysters.

This review is purely based on service and not on the food. This was our second time visiting this restaurant as the first time was a good experience and even recommended it to friends. I grew up in the neighborhood when Astoria was predominantly Greek and am always excited whenever a new Greek spot opens, especially in the "cursed" restaurant area that Nisi is currently in (this area never seems to hold a restaurant for more than two years). We usually go to our favorite Greek restaurant, Amylos, but when our amazing waiter from there moved on to better things in life, their quality of service went extremely down, and if you're paying for high-priced Greek meals in this economy, at least you would expect to experience some good service right? Well, unfortunately, Nisi did not deliver. Tonight left a nasty taste in our mouths, just like the smelly oysters they served.
1. We made reservations for 8:30 PM on Valentine's Day and they had a prix fixed dinner. They advertised it as a "4-course meal with complimentary champagne" on their Instagram but we did not receive any strawberry and champagne as posted.
2. We got there five minutes before our 8:30PM reservation, checked in with the hostess, and told her we would wait by the bar for our table. We knew it was going to be busy because of the day but it looked like she completely forgot about us since she seated a couple that came after us first. After 18 minutes of waiting by the bar, she finally came up to us and said, "If you guys still want a table, there's one available" and we were like "If? We've been waiting for a table!". Second red flag.
3. The first red flag was the bartender. We tried to pay for our drinks for ten minutes and we sympathized he was busy making all the drinks but we had our card out on the bill envelope when he was idle and still nothing. There was another bartender there that looked like he was being trained by the main bartender who saw our card and still nothing. Our table was in front of the bar and as we were getting seated, he yelled across the bar to command us to give him his signed copy. My husband was caught by surprise by the yelling so he was initially confused. The bartender kept barking at him "Where's the signed copy?! You didn't sign!" while my husband was trying to tell him that there was none since he didn't charge us yet. Finally, the bartender realized he didn't charge the card yet and apologized. Wow. Totally unprofessional and embarrassing for all that yelling as if we were trying to stiff him when he was the one at fault.
4. We waited another 15 minutes to get served. The night was finally winding down and patrons were leaving the restaurant. Our waiter was the same waiter we had on our first visit so that gave us hope the night would turn better. Again, I understand they were all so tired from the busy day, but it was still not an excuse to be rude. I ordered the oysters since I love eating them but when they arrived, they had a weird stench to them and the water on them was cloudy. Immediately, I was curious if we received a bad batch since it was the end of the night but I still gave it a chance. I put my usual condiments on them (lemon, vinegar, hot sauce) and still, it was not good. My husband even agreed as we were both oyster enthusiasts. I had another one just to make sure and it was definitely a no. When the waiter came to take the plates, he questioned me if I liked the oysters since I hadn't eaten all of them and I said "No I think they're bad" and he responded rather hastily, "So you're not going to finish them? We had them come in just for today, I mean come on!". Way to take out your stress on me, buddy. Aside from the bartender and now this waiter, I was embarrassed and appalled by the attitude of the wait staff!
We got through our meal but at that point, we just didn't want to be there anymore because of the bad service. We asked for our dessert to go since we were just completely done with the attitude and rudeness of the wait staff. This place is not usually busy on a normal day/night so I'm sure the wait staff was used to more of a quiet night. However, being it was their first Valentine's Day in the neighborhood, maybe this review will help them plan better if they make it to next year. read more
