    Greek Salad
    Aimee H.

Was here for a work Christmas dinner with my partner. We were all seated in the back area for the private event. The atmosphere and the decor of the restaurant are nice. Since we were there for an work dinner it was more of a set menu. We had Kria Pikilka Greek Spreads/Dips, Keftedes and Crispy Calamari to start, Greek salad next, then a choice of entree. I chose the Sirloin steak and my partner had the Seafood spaghetti. Most of the food was pretty good but the steaks weren't really consistent with some people complain it was kinda chewy but mine was great. Service overall was good although there was a bit of a long wait between salad and mains being brought out. It was a busy night during the festive season so some delays are to be expected. Seems like a great place to host a function!

Calamari. Ok. Good for a skinny couple or those that eat light

I want to preface this by saying that this a mothers day price fix menu review. Not sure how the service or food is on any other day. If you borderline on pretentious, this place is for you. My overall sense is that its a nice venue for girlie type events or for a date. The price fix menu was 49.99 and you get a small appetizer of Pita and various dips, 1 main course, and desert. I got the sirloin steak and baklava. Appetizers are 15 bucks each. IMO, a bit on the high side but oh well. Service is good, could have used a couple more waiters, but they were friendly and got the orders right. Atmosphere is nice in the garden, cozy. In the rest of the place idk. Seems a bit cramped. So with the food; Steak was good tho I asked for medium and got medium well. Still tho, was juicy and delish. The potato and veggies are boring. Sorry, one half potato but didn't taste greek at all. Calamari was mixed, some of the bigger pieces tasted great the others seemed too cooked and tough. Portion was small. Barely enough for 2 ppl. Baklava was good though very tough. My guess is that it wasn't made that day and was kept too cold. Try the baklava from Omonia on Broadway and compare for yourself. Our table ordered a sangria tho im gonna say its no where near as good as a true sangria. It is Greek and not Spanish but someone asked for it. Tasted more like iced wine with strawberries and oranges. Enough said Not the type of place I'd go for Greek food but good for gatherings I guess. Priced a bit high.

A Nice quiet spot away from the noise. Lot's of seating in the back. Service was very nice. Stuffed mushroom was good. Grilled octopus was crispy on the outside. Tasty. Would come back again to try other items on the menu for a peaceful meal.

Came here for a surprise bridal shower for one of my friends. The place is absolutely gorgeous and the perfect spot for a small bridal shower. One of my girls planned the whole event and mentioned how helpful the event coordinator was, I believe her name was Anna. Everything was set up and decorated to our color theme by the time of our arrival. Food was pretty good, I really enjoyed the calamari appetizers. The sangria was on point and was instantly refilled by our server. My favorite was definitely the amazing cake they made. It was so damn good I would definitely like to go back and try their bakery. I would definitely suggest this place for any event: bridal shower, baby shower, or engagement party. Anna really made this a breeze. And the price is too good to miss. Thanks for a great night.

We had good times at this restaurant. The server was by himself but could handle well all of us. Kind staff and nice environment. Thank u!

Thank you again for everything. We enjoyed every moment and everything was so so beautiful. The desserts also tasted amazing. We would definitely love to host here again. You reminded us of how caring and loving NYC businesses always used to be when I was growing up - caring about the customer and really making everything so precious. Anna was so helpful and kind and so was all of the staff we were with. They even helped us coordinate the exact surprise for our bride for our bridal shower.

I held a bridal shower here for my best friend and I couldn't be any happier - with both the venue and service the staffs (especially Anna) provided. Communication with Anna was always clear and I never hesitated to contact her if I had any questions. The enclosed garden space was beautifully decorated with the decorations I provided. They also threw in a few pieces of their own decors as well. The waiters were constantly coming by refilling our pitchers with mimosa and checking up on us. It wasn't as spacious as I imagined, but it was good enough for a small and intimate event. Anna was wonderful to work with and I'm looking forward to hosting another event here in the future!

Had a baby shower here. Staff was extremely helpful and made everything so easy. The venue is beautiful. Loved everything and would do again!

Came here this past Sunday for brunch. The great thing is that they are open early, 10:00am. The bad thing is this place is open so early, cause if you're hungry and desperate due to a delightful hangover you acquired from last night, you're more than likely to come here. I would recommend rolling around in pain for a bit longer and wait till other places open at 11:00am. The shop itself is pretty nice, there's a bakery and also a larger seating area in the back. First the staff isn't the most attentive and the food actually takes quite a while to come out even though they weren't too busy at 10:30 in the morning. There's a pre-fixe brunch menu which includes selected drinks and selected items from the menu, most of which are breakfast items except for the grilled chicken sandwich. The Pre-fixe brunch seems like a great deal since it's only$10, but when you look at the regular menu, a coffee is $2.50 and a breakfast item is $7.00-7.25. So it's not actually a deal, it's the same thing as ordering regularly. After ordering the food took quite sometime to come out. The meals were a pretty hearty portion and they all came with fries. The fries were Greek fries, under seasoned Greek fries. We were never asked how things were or even asked if we wanted refills on drinks. Doesn't make sense to me when you have 2 tables and 5 people on staff in the front of the house. The bill came it was around $36, but after paying the bill and leaving we realized we were overcharged since we only ordered 3 breakfast items and 1 coffee which should have been around $26 including tax, meaning we were charged 3 pre-fixe meals. Anyways this was a fault on both ends, them for getting the bill wrong even though they only had 2 tables and us for not checking the bill. Overall I would say this isn't a place I would want to come back here for brunch, but possibly some desserts since their baked goods looked quite delicious. But I'll remember to check the bill from now on.

My first bridal shower was hosted here over the weekend! The staff was very friendly and was there whenever we needed anything. I loved the atmosphere and how everything was decorated, it was adorable. We had a really nice time and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out! Would recommend to anyone!

Everything was lovely working with Anna from start to finish at Victory Garden Cafe. She made my bridal shower experience smooth and we enjoyed every little detail of planning and having the shower. Our guests kept raving how good the place is and the scrumptious, generous food serving! It's seldom you find a place that does everything including decorations. Top it with an amazing coordination from Anna and really nice waiters. We will be back to this venue for other event for sure! We loved every moment of the shower and planning too. The garden terrace was spacious, cool, and they even had the windows open to have the air circulation and also air purifiers in place for guests comfortability. Anna, thank you for making my shower so beautiful! We are so so thankful!

My wife and I hosted our Brunch Baby Shower here on January 28th and everything was AMAZING. We originally found this place while looking for spaces to host the baby shower and their outdoor-indoor garden space immediately caught our eye. I reached out to their event planner Anna and I have to say that from day one she was very attentive and professional. She responded to email inquiries promptly and was very accommodating when it came to our face to face visits (we would normally meet after 7 o'clock). We met in person a few times to coordinate all the details for the event; one thing we loved was that catering is included in all the packages. That took a huge weight off our shoulders. Their brunch menu had many different options to choose from and the cake, cupcakes and cake pops were absolutely delicious. The day of the event Anna and her team were there the whole time making sure that everything was just perfect. The venue's staff are A+, I mean they wouldn't even wait for a drink pitcher to be near empty before they would be on top of it and bringing out a new one. Overall we are super happy with our experience.

My best friend threw my bridal shower here back in March 2017. The space was very accommodating and easily fit our group of 18 while also hosting other large groups in separate areas, so you have plenty of privacy. The staff was great and from what my maid of honor had told me, they were amazing with helping plan and arranging decor. The food was great. I had the French toast which I really enjoyed. Later on we had desserts and the baklava was yummy! We did brunch so we had mimosas throughout, as many as we wanted. Later on we moved inside to open gifts because It got a bit chilly. The staff was very great at letting us move. I'd be interested in trying this place out on a smaller scale for lunch one day. It was very beautiful and family oriented! :)

The food has always been freshly prepared, in large portions, and cooked quite well. I'm thankful that has not changed much. On my most recent visit, we got a Mix Grilled and Vegetarian Plate to share between four people. There was so much food that we did not have dessert next door as originally planned. Prices are higher nowadays, but you are receiving great value for what you pay. Both chicken shawarma and the beef kufta from the Mix Grilled tasted great, especially with the provided zesty white sauce. I also added hot sauce to mine, which made it more satisfying. The chicken kebab was not bad, it had a nice char, but slightly dry. All of the accompanying humus (a bit salty), salad, rice, and garlic pita were excellent too. For the Vegetarian Plate, though good, I would like the falafels to be fluffier. The best things I enjoyed on the plate was the fried eggplants and baba ghanosh. It also comes with cous cous, which was good. Fresh middle eastern cuisine, made with quality ingredients and care, this restaurant may not be my first choice in Astoria because it's not as sexy as some of the other offerings, but I'm glad that they are still around when I just want a quality meal at a reasonable price.

It was pretty quiet inside, outside of the TV playing somewhat loud highlights from the World Cup on loop (why,) with the servers and staff being helpful and friendly. In comparison to the other pick-your-own seafood spots like AbuQir or Hamido, the spices are a tad lighter here, being almost closer to Astoria Seafood, minus the olive oil. I didn't mind, though, as the fish was all fresh and perfectly prepared. To drink, our table stuck with water, though there are a few mocktails and some sodas, including some Algerian ones. They put down some simple bread with a bit of garlic and herbs, which was refilled. For non-seafood dishes, we had a few. The first was the $8 Hmiss, or Hammis, a dip made with roasted pepper, tomato, and garlic sautéed in olive oil. The warm dish was earthy and garlicky, and went perfectly with the bread, with the flavor reminding me of a warmer version of some Turkish eggplant dips. There was also the Peasant Salad for $12, with cucumber, tomato, red onion, and Kalamata olives topped with feta, oregano, and dill. If you're familiar at all with Horiatiki/Village salad, it's basically the same thing, though with crumbled feta instead of a block, and it was refreshing and tasty. Finally, we eventually got an $8 side order of Basil Garlic Mashed Potatoes, which were decent. The first seafood to arrive at the table was the $16.99 Algerian Sardines, which consisted of sardines from Morocco with a spice mixture. The man in front recommended them fried, and the portion was nice, and the flavor was excellent. The fish was fried perfectly, with the bones fried enough that the entirety of it could be eaten. This was delicious, and one of the highlights of the meal. As we loved these sardines, we eventually got a small order of the other option, the "Marinated Sardines" from Spain. These were a bit more expensive by weight, being $10.56 for 0.48 pounds, but by comparison, these were much flatter and larger. The half pound consisted of three large pieces, which were broken down and divided among the group. While I slightly preferred the spices from the Algerian version, I liked the texture of these more, as they were more meaty. I don't think you can go wrong with either, as both were excellent. There was also one pound of Mussels for $17.99, which was available in one of two cooking preparations, Moules Marinière or a version with tomato sauce, herbs, and feta. I went with the latter, and they were excellent, with all of the mussels being open. The feta added a unique, slightly salty touch, with the broth being delicious. They had brought us out some extra bread, and we made good use of it. If I were here alone, I might have this along with some sardines and leave very happy. We also got two whole fish, which were both ordered grilled and butterflied. First was the Dorado, or Orata, for $29.24 for 1.54 pounds. As is typical for this fish, it was delicate and light, but had plenty of flavor. The other was the American Red Snapper, which was a bit more expensive at $37.90 for 1.58 pounds. By comparison, this fish was a lot thicker and therefore, a bit more flavorful. We enjoyed both, with a slight preference going towards the cheaper fish for most outside of me and one other. Another highlight was the Scallops for $37.23 for 0.98 pounds, which came out to 14 large pieces. As recommended, we got these sautéed, with the scallops coming in a delicious garlicky juice on the bottom with plenty of other herbs. The scallops were tender while staying plump, though I slightly preferred the more caramelized tops at AbuQir, with these having a more uniform texture. The rest of the people liked what I couldn't eat, the $24.99 Octopus for around half a pound. The octopus came out pre-cut, which made splitting it very easy. I can't comment much on the flavor or saltiness as some other reviewers brought up, or else I'd be in the hospital right now post-anaphylaxis, but people liked it a lot. If you don't want to bother with the lines or crowds at the other fish spots, I would highly recommend going here. The fish is fresh, perfectly prepared, and seasoned just enough to highlight the natural flavors. I would go back.

The sardines were fried well, but just not as mind-blowing as I thought they'd be judging from reviews. My fav were the Tiger shrimps (sautéed) and the branzino (grilled). You could really taste the char, and they were cooked perfectly. We also got butter garlic linguine with scallops and clams. My husband loved the linguine (and the free bread) the most. The scallops were nice and plump but could have been seared more. The clams were tiny and I wouldn't get them again. The guy behind the fish counter was great. The server however was pretty slow. We waited 10 mins after choosing our fish for just tap water and eventually I just got up to ask the guy behind the counter for water. I also had to go up to the server myself to ask for to-go boxes and the check. And I got up to give the check to them, because they still hadn't taken it after my trip to the bathroom. Place is spacious enough for a family dinner, feels welcoming enough.
