Oh sure, there are all sorts of bars in the Tenderloin that run the gamut from trendy, overpriced taverns to complete, fall-off-the-stool dives. Make no mistake this one lands on the latter part of that spectrum. Nothing wrong with that as this back-to-basics corner bar is pretty comfortable considering the neighborhood. A decent Makers Mark & Ginger can be had for $9 (photo: https://yelp.to/WRbLW3KfQ6). Not bad. DRINKS - 3 stars...just what I needed AMBIANCE - 3 stars...the pool table is the main feature SERVICE - 3 stars...mixed well TOTAL - 3 stars...a night cap may be too late for me RELATED - Exploring the Tenderloin? I must have passed this place at least a hundred times before noticing it existed. We had the pleasure of meeting Pierre, the bartender. We enjoyed his service, meeting a few of the bar regulars there, and adding Nite Cap to my list of places to drop by when I need a drink or a place to find good vibes. Definitely deserves five stars AND MORE!

Stellar. Great Job. Love It. Drink Responsibly; Get what You can Pay For. Bathroom-- hopefully not smelly (upstreet probably or bad timez). Delicious Espresso Martini. Pool, when Available--Popular.

Quaint bar around the Tenderloin. Not a bad way to spend a Friday night but pretty empty in the evening. Cool vibe, great music and nice bartender. Good place to meet up with friends, maybe start out your night before hitting up other bars, partying, whatever. Also it's a good place to grab a quick drink after work if you're in the area. They keep the door open so best to go when it's warm or barely chilly out. Cold beer and cold hands aren't ideal here in California. They had sports on the TV, the Cubs eh but I'm from south side Chicago so I'll take it. They were whooping the St. Louis Cardinals last I looked so, good. Highlight was probably the music choices and the random cool leashed dog at the bar, Drake. Sweet, chill and mostly well trained pup that was a fun distraction. Had a white wine, decent pour, pretty bubbles. Think it's just drinks here but you can have food delivered or bring in some no problem!

The space has a fun indoor-outdoor party vibe with string lights, a big bar area, and a lot of people moving through throughout the night. Because it gets very crowded during First Thursdays, the energy feels more like a social event than a typical bar night. It's a good place to stop by if you're already out in the area and want somewhere with music and a busy atmosphere. The photo here was taken from their little loft area, which is actually really cute and a great spot for people watching since you can see the whole bar and crowd from above. One thing I wasn't sure about was the plastic cups. Every time I've gone they've served drinks in plastic cups, but since it's so busy during First Thursdays, I'm not sure if that's their normal setup or just something they do to keep things moving during the event. I ordered a rosé, which was perfectly fine and easy to drink while walking around.

Luckily, my friend had already been to Iron Horse Cocktails, and suggested we go there instead. Walking down the alleyway it is located in was a nice getaway from the otherwise hectic union square atmosphere. Walking in was also a neat experience that felt like we were stepping out of the city into a tiny pub. We also really liked the atmosphere inside and the cozy upper floor that had an interesting mix of old paintings and woodwork, creating an eclectic feel. I got the We've Got the Beet cocktail with mezcal, beet reduction, ginger, fresh citrus, thyme and firewater bitters. I love mezcal's smoky flavors and was drawn to the combination of ginger, citrus and mezcal flavors in the drink. The cocktail was very good and had a nice smokiness from the mezcal, along with the kick from the ginger and zest from the citrus, creating a refreshing and tasty drink. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. While we only had time to grab a drink each, we were both very happy with the drinks and would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.
