Finally got to try Niu's soft serve ice cream today! Available flavors were niu (coconut), ube, lilikoʻi , and toasted niu. After asking the patient and friendly counter staff about flavors, she graciously offered a sample of the toasted niu. The toasted niu soft serve is a little sweet for me but the flavor is heavenly. Tastes and smells exactly like toasted coconut flakes and I was sold! I decided to add Mac nuts to top my keiki bowl and was pleasantly surprised to see they were toasted too (at least I think they were). I got there at approx. 5:45 on a Saturday. A couple of 2-top tables were occupied but otherwise not crowded, although a couple of small groups came right after me. Looks like they're now open daily (compared to when they first opened a few years ago) which was partly a reason for my delay in checking them out. Depending on the time, parking can be a challenge in Old Stadium Mall, where L&L, Kozo Sushi, and Lunar Tea are. During peak meal times, it'd be better to come with someone to run in and order/pick up while the other waits/circles around the lot/block. (The Young Street entrance and exit are one-way and narrow and visibility can be challenging at times.)
Located on King Street with a bunch of other restaurants, Niu Soft Serve is a small but yummy option for sweets. There is a parking lot in the front but parking can fill up. Inside, the space is on the smaller side but there are a few tables to sit. The counter is where you can order and see the menu. Plus, there is a display of some baked goods. We have been before to get the ice cream and hot kulolo (which was so good). This time, we wanted to try a different dessert! We decided to order the warm cookie sundae. We have seen some videos of this, and thought it looked yummy. We ordered and the dessert came out promptly. The people working were quick, which was helpful since there was a line. We were able to snag a table and try the sundae. It was so good! The combination of the soft serve (ube and vanilla), fudge, whipped cream, and cookie were excellent. Definitely will be back to try this again, and maybe get another kulolo and ice cream mix.
Decided to check out this place while I was in the area having lunch and I'm sure glads I did. I ordered the first thing I saw on the menu, their lihing lover with lychee soft serve...Wowser!! That was definitely a treat and and a party in my mouth. Yummmyy!! They were so good, I went back the next day and had dessert first before picking up something for dinner. The staff were kind and helpful and the service was quick! Its a cute little shop, with the sweet aroma of freshly baked cookies, you're bound to get drawn in one way or another!
I discovered Niu Soft Serve at a farmers market many years ago, and I am so glad they have a storefront now with many more options! I will usually get the kulolo sundae, but I opted for something simple this night. I just ordered the bowl with the kinako pretzel flavor. I love the texture of the soft serve here! It seems like the parking lot is always crowded, but I am usually able to find a spot. There are a handful of tables inside the shop, but it can get crowded at night. This is definitely a solid dessert spot, especially for those who are non-dairy.
I didn't even realize this quaint shop existed until I decided on a non-dairy lifestyle six months ago. Luckily, a recommendation from a friend led me to this vegan-friendly establishment. I have GREAT friends who really look out for me!! But, you do NOT have to be non-dairy or vegan to delight in Niu Soft Serve and its vegan soft serve, toppings, and cookies. Niu Soft Serve rotates their flavors every couple of weeks. So far (because I plan to try more), I've tasted the ube/coconut and the roasted grain/toasted niu at the shop. Both were amazing! The texture is wonderful and the flavors are delicate and not overpowering. It's creamy but not 'runny' and not too sweet. Can you say, perfection!? You will after you try it! I prefer the traditional, old-school cone but they have waffle cone and cup options. You can also create your own sundae with their non-dairy toppings including hot kulolo, salted fudge, and niu condensed. Then, add your choice of crunchies or fresh fruit. Yum, right?! Or go ALL OUT and order a cookie sundae made with one of their fresh-baked, vegan cookies. I prefer to get the cookies to go and eat them for breakfast with black coffee. It's hard to get vegan pastries, so this is a great pastry-adjacent option. That is if you can manage to not eat the cookies before breakfast the next day! They are delicious ANY time of day. The texture is flawless (I love a soft cookie). A dash of sea salt complements the sweetness creating a crunchy, savory contrast that will make your taste buds explode. In addition to getting cookies to go, you can also walk out with pints. I feel like I always need one in my freezer in case of emergencies. Seriously, this soft serve will leave you craving so you want to be prepared for any late-night longings. I tried the chocolate flavor in a take-home pint. NO complaints! The location is a little tucked away. I never saw it even though I pass by it daily. But, you'll be glad once you find it. It's located right across Old Stadium Park on King Street in the small complex Diamond Head of Savers. The parking lot is small but we've always managed to find parking. And, street parking is also available on both sides of King Street. Don't let parking deter you from this delicious treat! They have a few small tables, a counter, and a bench inside. There is also a bench outside, too. It's been bustling during our visits, but we've always been able to grab a seat in the cool, cozy shop. Tables turn quickly because people pretty much devour their sweet treats. Service is fast and friendly. If you can't decide on a flavor, they will gladly give you samples. Staff genuinely seem to enjoy their work and their appreciation for their customers shows. With the summer days approaching, I'd highly recommend putting this on your must-try list! Even if you aren't vegan or non-dairy, you won't be disappointed. My husband consumes dairy but says this is one of his favorite cone places. Give Niu Soft Serve a try. You'll likely want to return for more.
Ube coconut swirl with mac nuts was good but not mindblowing. We were already in the area because we went to Alii fish market; otherwise wouldn't go out of the way for it.
The shop is a little small and the parking may be a bit difficult. Luckily, I had a Toyota Prius and we fit very well in a small parking lot lol. The line was out the door but it moved fast. We got there around 7PM? We got the Hot Kulolo w/ Ube flavor. They had four flavors: Hojicha, Vanilla, Ube, and I forgot the other one oops! But it was good, the ice cream was worth it for the size.
We got there for dessert didn't know they close 8:00 pm on Mon, Wed, Thurs. and close at 9:00 pm on Fri, Sat, Sun. We lucked out on parking, I guess because we got there at 7:30 pm and most places were either closed or starting to close. I ordered the plain coconut which was good with a light taste of coconut. My wife had the coconut with Oreo cookie bits and it went really well with the coconut flavor.
This place is awesome. The ice cream is so good. Theres a lot of options to add one. The calamansi slushie looked amazing, so we got a small sample. I will def be coming back just for that. The hot kulolo fudge is incredible. It truly is delicious. You can go wrong with anything here. The restaurant is very clean and nice too. Theres service was top notch. I didn't feel rushed when trying to decide between all options.
I 100000% recommend you come here for a SWEET TREAT. It's the best. I got a swirl of mixed berry and this sweet milk. That was good, although it was a little gritty because of the fresh berries. HOWEVER, if you get the UBE flavor. It's OUT OF THIS WORLD. Super creamy, it doesn't taste like an artificial flavor, and not too sweet. Pair the ube with Mac nuts and it's the perfect combo. I'll be coming back again, it does get a little busy at night, but it's totally worth it.
I went twice this week to introduce family members to Niu and they all loved it! Both times I tried different things than I normally get like the kalamansi slush with niu soft serve and the cookies and peanut butta sundae. Both were great though I'd recommend the slush more for the day time or when it is hot as it is easy to get a brain freeze haha. They are very popular now since my first review years ago so you may have to wait a few minutes for them to make your order but it is worth the wait. The workers work hard to keep up. The niu (coconut) and ube are standard flavors while two others change every 2 weeks to keep things interesting. The only tough thing is parking with all the other restaurants but I've often found street parking as a backup.
I love coming back here! This is the only dessert I can eat that I don't feel super full, everything is so light and delicious! Best kulolo sundae on the island might be controversial but I will stand on it. Always busy because it's the best!
I just want to say that their cookies are some of the best I have had, but that for some reason it tastes even better with their soft serve.. I don't know why but trust me... My friend got that cookie sundae combo and after sampling hers I wanted to eat the whole thing (oops) My go-to is the Hot Kulolo Sundae. I love it so much. It has warm Kulolo on the bottom and the cold ice cream on top. I recommend the ube. Service was pleasant and fast and they had some dine-in tables indoors. It got kinda crowded though so keep that in mind. Such a gem my friends and I say this is one of our all-time favorite places for ice cream and for a good reason it really is that good.

Found this place because it serves soft serve and dairy free options. Located off of King Street on the left side closer to the University side. Parking in the area was available. Small shop with a few chairs to sit and eat. As a first timer the person who took our order, could have been the owner, gave us samples to try. We tried the ube/coconut swirl and dragon fruit/vanilla swirl. Ended up ordering the hot kulolo ube swirl. Yummy! They portion your serving, weigh the amount of soft serve, and then drizzle the hot kulolo in the cup. Hint: There are shakes, cups, make your own sets to choose from. Prices are not cheap but what is now days? Fair is fair come try this place out for a sweet treat. You may even see some customers eating and feeding themselves and their dog some creamy dessert. read more

We were excited to try Niu after seeing videos of their desserts on TikTok. They open in the afternoon at 1:00 PM and we made our way there on a Sunday. They weren't busy when we got there, and the counter person was helpful in explaining the different desserts to us. I settled on a Fruity Pohaku with Ube and Niu twist, and my bf got a Ube Cookies & Cream shake. I enjoyed my dessert, and he did too. Service 5, taste 3.5, value 3, appearance 4 read more

Despite my experience at the store, this sundae was tasty enough for me to still give 5 stars! I love the mixture of textures the macadamia nuts and Kulolo sauce give! You don't have to be vegan to love vegan soft serve . @niusoftserve is serving up some really delicious soft serve that would truly leaving your questioning whether or not it's truly vegan/ dairy free. I#today I got to try their this months flavors of coconut/ube swirl as well as their orange dream/ Madagascar vanilla bean. All of their flavors are really light and really not too sweet which I think is perfect for pairing with their other decadent toppings like their candied nuts/ kulolo sauce and others. As someone who can't eat too much dairy because I'm lactose, this is really a great alternative ! Go check them out if you haven't already! read more

Quality product and soft serve. Coconut and ube are terrific! My grandma and I got the hot kulolo and Kalo me back. Both exceptional. Staff is also friendly. Thought the soft serve cup would be bigger. For a 190 pound guy, it was almost like a sampler haha. Taste over quantity I guess. Cool place. My grandma enjoyed the aesthetics of the place. I preferred the Kalo me back although I was happy with both. Best part, dairy free so I won't be farting haha read more

I just happened to be in the area looking for some dessert and my wife pointed out this place. I never heard of it but she saw them on social media. They use coconut milk for their products I think. They had ube soft serve so I was like "downsmok" so good. Coming back here again because they change the 4 flavors every two weeks. read more

In a place like Hawaii, the land of the lactose intolerant, a non-dairy soft serve joint like Niu is a real life saver! So it's not a PERFECT substitute for real ice cream, but it's pretty darn refreshing and LIGHT which is a nice change of pace! It's all oatmilk based so feel free to indulge without worrying about paying for it later!! We grabbed a pint of the pandan icecream and it was such a unique, fun flavor. Incredible to find such amazing dairy free soft serve ice cream! This is the best we've ever had. We can safely eat even the waffle cones without fear of milk allergy reaction. My first time here I did not know what to get, but the popular choice the hot kulolo was recommended to me. It was amazing. The mix of the hot kulolo with the creamy coconut soft serve warms your heart. Easily can uplift your day! I also brought my dog because I heard they were dog friendly, and the workers were so nice to her. They even gave her a pup cup, it was so adorable. My dog loved it too. The vibe of the place is very welcoming, when you walk in you are surrounded with the sweet smell of coconut and baked goods. Overall very welcoming. With aesthetic lighting and background, perfect for that Instagram shot! Niu soft serve is a place where you can taste and feel the aloha. read more
I've seen Niu Soft Serve on my Instagram for the longest time and finally decided to try it out at the Kailua farmers market on Sunday. I got the smallest $3.50 cup with the Ube & Pandan swirl. The size wasn't as small as I was expecting, but it is nonetheless pretty small - perfect for if you just want a taste without getting full. The consistency was good, but not as creamy as other dairy-free soft serves I've had. I honestly couldn't really distinguish the difference between the pandan and ube flavors :/ They both just tasted like a coconut cream (which is basically what it is I think), and on top of that the aftertaste of the pandan flavor was a tad sour which threw me off guard and made it MUCH less enjoyable than I had hoped. I'm glad I finally tried it but besides the aesthetic swirl photo, I'd say save your money and spend it elsewhere. read more

Took my daughters with me to Niu Soft Serve after school to get a sweet treat on a hot day. Let me just say that we all enjoyed it. The girls got the orange daydream, which is like a orange creamsicle flavor and the kind lady added sprinkles for them for free. They ate it all up. I had the ube and niu (coconut) swirl with the hot kulolo and macadamia nuts. SO BOMB! The hot kulolo paired so well with the flavors of the soft serve. I probably could have ate another order. It's also DAIRY FREE! We'll definitely be coming back and will probably bring my doggo with me as they are dog friendly. read more

I got their Ube & Hojicha (special flavor) - Hot Kulolo Sundae and it was so yummy ($9)!! It wasn't too sweet & the macadamia nuts gave it a nice crunch & texture. The only "bummer" was that the hot kulolo melted my ice cream a little faster than I would've wanted but what can you expect, its HOT kulolo on cold ice cream lol. The staff were so helpful & friendly, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for dessert!! read more

Tonight me and my boyfriend stopped by to try Niu for the first time. The inside of the shop, service, and soft serve was amazing! The man who helped us was really helpful and chill, with us being first timers he explained to us the menu and the special flavors, which is pandan and pineapple right now. Then he gave us samples. It was hard to pick what to order because all the 4 flavors tasted really good. I ended up choosing to create our own bowl with pandan and pineapple topped with toasted coconut, macadamia nuts, and mochi balls. The pricing is really fair. We also got some popcorn that they were giving out for free! We definitely want to come back to try more flavors and support a great new local business! read more
Highly recommend to check out this place. Specializes in nondairy soft serve/froyo. Glad more places like this are opening up around hnl. The young gentleman that helped us check out was extremely helpful and had great customer service. The star of the show was the hot kulolo sundae. The mixture of the warm kulolo fudge / the crunchy macadamia nuts/ and cold soft serve was a great balance. They have special flavors on the board. I hope the best time I'm there they have the lilikoi flavor. The place is tucked in a little center, but pretty straight forward to find. Highly recommend ! read more

I can't eat dairy and I have been looking for a good dairy-free ice cream. One of the owners of Alii Fish Market -- right next to Niu Soft Serve-- recommended Niu Soft Serve last weekend, and I went to try some of the ice cream yesterday. OMG, many flavors of ice cream and cheesecake-like ice cream pie, and cookies, shakes, and etc. I tried Niu ice cream pie and Ube soft ice cream with some toppings. I loved what I got and will go back to try its shakes. Friendly staff and clean store. I wish it was located in Ala Moana Center or in that area. read more

The soft serve at Niu Soft Serve was such a nice surprise. It was refreshing, not sweet like other types of ice cream, and it was served in a crispy cone. The flavors for the month are: Niu Ube Mint chip Chocolate Malt I decided on my favorite, Chocolate malt. It did not disappoint. Decided, this time to pick up cookies. Haven't tried the furikake and chocolate chip cookies, but they will be devoured later today. read more
This soft serve is delicious! I have never had anything deemed as VEGAN, until now. I am inclined to try more! I could not tell the difference from regular soft serve. The texture is smooth and creamy and is non dairy, so it's tummy friendly! The toppings today included lilikoi cream and strawberry lemon peel. They complimented each other very nicely against the icecream. The SLP sauce is so broke da mout', I was thinking of other things I could eat it with, like a spoon!! The LC sauce is fresh and sweet. Not super tart like when it comes straight out of the shell. Not a fake tasting flavor. Definitely can tell it is real lilikoi juice. Have my first taste at Kaka'ako Farmer's Market. It's hot out, so it's melting pretty quick. A very nice way to cool down in the summer heat! A++++ read more
