(Overall: C) - Niukee Shumai is a cute quick bites shop in Little Italy with a few small tables and a reasonably sized menu. The food gives homey comfort food style that is attempted to be presented in a slightly more elegant manner. The kimchi provided a nice contrast between everything else that was served. Overall, the food was reasonable, but I was taken aback by the fact that the staff were so shocked I found this place on Yelp as if I was unthinkably old. (Beef Bone Soup: B) - Comforting bone broth that heals the soul; found the vermicelli unnecessary as the egg smartly serves the place as an alternative noodle. Beef bones are a bit difficult to eat and an inclusion of a vegetable could be better balancing. (Shu Mai: C) - This wrapping methodology for the Shu Mai comes off as an unrefined clump and dump, which is detractive from its appeal. We tried all three non-vegetarian options, which all tasted somewhat similar and missed an opportunity to give each its own spotlight. I am typically not the biggest fan of shumai, but NiuKee has converted me. It is a cozy and casual spot in Chinatown that specializes in shumai, baos, and homey chinese dishes. I've had numerous canto/hong kong style siumai in my life, but I've never tried the northern style ones. Their shumai is shaped like a vase, with a narrow neck and a wider base. I usually get stuffed after eating one or two at dim sum spot, but their shumai are apparently lighter and less oily. *Vegetarian Shu Mai $9.95 *** Recommended!! Made of mushrooms, vermicelli, tofu, carrots and cabbage, I was amazed by the natural sweetness from the ingredients. It was very mushroom-y. I also liked the texture and thickness of the shumai wrapper. It was aromatic on its own so I didn't have to dip any soy sauce! *Pork & Shrimp Shu Mai $8.95 My friend picked this as her favorite. The filling was juicy, which differentiated from the canto siumai I am more familiar with. The shrimp was fresh and plump. *Brown Sugar Rice Cake $5.95 *** MY FAV!! These deep-fried rice cake sticks were made to order. The center was still piping hot and we almost burnt our tongue. A mochi with brown sugar lava was wrapped inside the breaded layer. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. *Fruit-Shaped Bun $9.95 These mini fruit buns were almost too cute to eat! Each bun was filled with ube or red bean paste. Tbh they looked better than they tasted. The bun was fluffy but I wished the flavors were more bold. *Special Sauce Beef $12.95** I always find cold beef shank too tough but this one was an EXCEPTION. They cut the beef into thinner slices so it was easier to chew. The special chili sauce and scallion was the highlight. *Sesame Sauce Cucumber $9.95* So refreshing and crunchy. I can eat this appetizer every day--that's how delicious it was. *Beef Bone Soup $19.95 Hmm the short rib was tender but it wasn't fall off the bone. The broth was bland on its own. We added black pepper and salt to season it, and had it with cabbage salad on the side for more flavors.

Interesting niche concept shop in the northern borderlands of Chinatown focused exclusively on Cantonese siumai dumplings with a modern twist. In 3 decades of vegetarianism I'm not sure I've ever seen a vegetarian variety made available - the filling has a savory tofu base that pairs well with the filmy light dumpling skin. The thick chili paste served on the side is awesome - make sure to apply generously.

I was really excited to try this place near SoHo because I saw these fruit buns on instagram. Ambiance: 4/5 When I got there, I liked the ambiance. It was modern, clean, and trendy. However, I don't think there's a bathroom for customers to use. Service: 5/5 The girl at the front desk was very friendly and warm. I appreciated the attentive service. Food: 3/5 The actual fruit buns, however, were bland. I would recommend that you get the other dishes if you go here.

Today I got the fruit buns and the lamb with green onions shumai. Fruit bun: Looks cute, but that is all. The flavor was so bland, it literally had like no flavor whatsoever. Boring as heck. Lamb with Green Onion-The lamb was completely unseasoned, this had no flavor whatsoever. No salt or pepper or sesame oil or anything. Just straightup unseasoned ground lamb with a tiny bit of green onion. Absolutely Bland and boring. Overall: Not coming back, while the staff was friendly, I'm ultimately looking for good food. This was a boring waste of money and calories.

Tried pretty much everything on the menu, enjoyed it all. Tiny neat modern store and clean interior. Staff was fast, polite, and helpful.

this spot is located near little Italy and it's such a cozy spot to have a meal. they serve northern style shumai and they were delicious. I was surprised by the vegetarian shumai. it was sweet and savory. their little buns are so cute. you must start with their sesame sauce cucumber. it's just so refreshing and I literally couldn't stop eating it. service was quick. can't wait to come back for my next comfort meal here!

The JUICIEST shumai I've ever had in my life!! I'm literally still dreaming about the beef and onion shumai. The sesame cucumbers were also one of our faves and the brown sugar dessert was soooo good. Wow I'm so glad I found this place!

The roast pork rice bowl looked good from the choices on the menu so decided to select that. For $15 it was a good deal as the roast pork and rice itself was plentiful and filling esp if one is hungry. Definitely had enough sauce which was good. Came with 1/2 egg which was nice. Food order and delivery from GHub was pretty quick esp since there was no specific time just asap (only downside of ordering via an app). However, food did stay warm. Will have to go there to dine... but will order again.

It's pretty spacious so large parties can easily fit as well. Open till 12:30am so it's pretty obvious this spot just slaps. Value, opening hours, ambiance, convenience, all of that adds up to be one of my favorite spots on a New York adventure. Dim Sum Combo A - a little bit of everything makes up this set, perfect for two people to share especially. This really has all the classics including har gow, siu mai, XLB, and egg tarts plus some extra goodies. Will say there are (obviously) better tasting pieces out there but these aren't low quality at all. I've had much worse and each item hit the spot. Choy Sum w/ Oyster Sauce - no green beans so we settled for some other greens and fiber. Nutritious, juicy, healthy, cannot complain here. Crispy Pork Belly - Not a bad price for the amount, great crispy skin on top with the typical balance of fat and meat. This one also hit the spot perfectly, even if not our favorite or best, the price and value cannot be beat while satisfying cravings.

I was browsing for places with scallion pancakes and I came across this restaurant. I saw they had a scallion pancake beef rook which I'd never seen before. It was fried and crispy on the inside with tender beef on the inside, that was slightly savory slightly sweet. I had the roll on its own, which made for a light meal, but it can also be enjoyed as a large snack. It was a little greasy, which can be expected, but not sure if I'd get it again. I did think it was innovative though. The most impressive thing about the restaurant was actually the space. I came to pick up my food and was surprised to see this beautiful place. The outside is unassuming and nothing special but inside has the aesthetic of an old Shanghai restaurant. It's ornate and slightly quirky. It's also really big, bigger than I expected. Even the bathrooms had traditional Chinese flare with the sliding doors. Definitely worth checking out,

It's also nicely decorated, which makes you feel like you're in China. It's definitely for a younger crowd with how loud this place gets. We had a huge party, so we ordered an array of dishes to share family style. Some of the most memorable dishes were the Mapo Tofu ($13.99), Hutaoli Roast Chicken ($43 for whole), Spicy Pot Potato ($19), Roasted Green Beans ($22), etc. All of the food is good, but definitely pricey. While the food also came out quickly, our drinks came out towards the end of our meal. It's a good spot for big parties as it never got too busy even on a Saturday night. They also have private rooms. The live music was fun, but also made it hard to have conversation.
