I'll be frank. Having grown up in NYC, I've seen Dim Sum GoGo many times, but never once stopped in. It doesn't look the most appetizing on the outside and it doesn't look the most appetizing on the inside either...but...I'm a believer now. In all that time, we've never had a bad meal. The food has always been consistently excellent, which is pretty impressive for somewhere that's as popular and busy as this. This visit was just a quick lunch, so we kept it simple. My wife is vegetarian, so we ordered hot tea and the vegetarian dim sum platter. Dim Sum Go Go is the only place I know with such a great selection of vegetarian dim sum. Every piece looks fantastic, tastes even better, and the ginger and scallion dipping sauce that comes with it is absolutely addictive. The staff deserve a mention too. They're attentive, organised, and incredibly efficient. They have a very serious, no-nonsense approach, which somehow adds to the charm of the place. Everything runs like clockwork, and before you know it, you're enjoying some of the best dim sum in Chinatown. We were in and out in no time, exactly what we wanted, but the quality of the food was as good as ever. We had many dishes between my group . Each one was served warm and perfect time order . The dumplings are not salty and filled to what I would consider a stuffed capacity. I suggest you eat them when you receive them on the table as they do tend to get sticky right away . I enjoyed the Turnip cakes immensely, accompanied by a nice sauce. I also enjoyed the eggplant dish that we ordered. I definitely considered this place to be reasonably priced and would highly recommend it if you take a walk off the beaten path of Canal Street. Dim Sum GoGO was such a great experience! The dumplings were fresh and everything that came to the table was steaming hot :) which I love. I had the Eggplant w Shrimp, Sea Food fried rice, pork and chicken soup dumplings, plus the shrimp dumplings, and they were all delicious. Super flavorful and perfectly cooked. The sesame chicken was really good too -- not overly breaded, just the right amount of crispy coating with plenty of tender chicken inside. It tasted fresh and came with steamed broccoli, which balanced it out nicely. Was on my way for dumplings after the Knicks parade when my husband said he wanted a smörgåsbord of SOUP dumplings. Oh my stars were we hungry and now rerouting on foot when we came across Dim Dum Go Go. Was attracted by all the Michelin stickers in the window and a low line to wait. Run on what looked like a skeleton crew serving many customers in a huge rush they were hauling ass refreshing tables and getting food out. We started with a very delicious chicken fried rice and tea. I loved the beef curry and duck dumplings. They accidently gave me sticky rice instead of the pork buns and very quickly fixed the error. The sticky rice was good, but has shrimp so my husband couldn't eat it and good thing we fixed the order because the pork buns were one of the best I've ever had! The whole way home left me thinking about how good the food was - there was not a bad dim sum, we did not feel greasy and gross after. Met up with some friends for a Sunday brunch since we didnt have dim sum in a long time. Ordering is manual on a paper menu. There is also a regular menu that provides pictures of the dishes. Service is fast and friendly. Servers are around if you need anything. There is upstairs and downstairs seating. Downstairs was filled, but there was plenty of room upstairs. There is a variety of dim sum but we went with some of the regulars like shrimp dumpling, turnip cakes, spring rolls that we haven't had in awhile. Food comes out quick and is hot and tasty. The decors didn't change since Nixon was president, and the staff is that semi alluring rudeness mixed with none empathetic vibes, but the buns were as fluffy as clouds! Had only been to their East Village location previously and it wasn't such a good experience, thought I should give the original restaurant a try to see if it's any good. I have eaten dim sum all my life, and unlike people who may have had dim sum from less than 10 restaurants their whole life, I do think I can comment on the quality and authenticity of the dim sum here. The place was incredibly busy and with mostly non-Asian customers. That got me worried, but this is Chinatown, so I understand a lot of tourists come here as well. We were seated upstairs after a 15-min wait. The place was disorganized, the service was nonexistent, neither of which I care about because service and ambience is not why you go to a Chinese restaurant. But while I was dining there, I also saw so many dissatisfied customers who couldn't flag down a server / get their food order in / get their check, no one was happy. The servers also kept grumbling and even swearing in Chinese, no joke. The restaurant was incredibly understaffed, and the servers kept saying the orders came out wrong, and customers were unhappy. I saw at least 2 (non-asian) tables not leaving any tips for the servers, and of course the servers complained more. It's a mess. The food took forever to come, and 1.5 hours after sitting down, we still did not get all the food we ordered. Turned out some of the food was cancelled, and we were not told why the food was cancelled. The food that did come out was mostly just okay. I'd say some of the fillings of the dumplings and spring rolls were weird - lots of cornstarch / wheat starch, which is not how things should be. Again, I've eaten dim sum all my life, and this is not normal. The sizes of the dim sum pieces were also smaller than most places. This experience unfortunately did not change my opinion of the restaurant - I don't think I'd come back. But they probably need not worry, as a mention in the Michelin guide won them many, many new (non-Asian) patrons who would certainly be less critical than me. I've gone here the past few times I visited Chinatown and really enjoyed their food. The place is fairly small but also has a second floor to accommodate events. Service is quite fast and their takeout is quick as well. My favorite dishes are the Shrimp rice rolls and Egg custards, which sell out by early afternoon.
