I wonder how this review would have gone if, when I arrived and confirmed my reservation, they had seated me at a booth or one of the tables by the window, instead of trying to put me behind a pillar loaded with people's coats and scarves? My immediate thought was, 'Really? I put in a reservation requesting a booth - if available - and there are 4 avalailable but you're putting me practically IN the coat stand? Thanks for that. NOT.) I did speak up, and they did put me at a table by the window. That said....the food was pretty good, and when the waiter wasn't eyeing up my dinner companion (who is, let's be fair, devilishly handsome) he did actually take pretty good care of me. My dining companion du jour had the margherita pizza, which he appeared to enjoy with gusto, and I had a type of ravioli that was stuffed with ricotta and greens, and served with a creamy sauce with chopped walnuts. It was delicious. The bread was good, the iced tea was 'real', and the ambience was cozy. I'll likely try it again, and see if they try to squash me into the customer coat stash again. Hopefully they won't. Otherwise, why bother making reservations? I could get that sort of treatment without logging into Open Table and saving a table for two. read more

Gluten Free is done right at Nizza. We had a Sat night reservation (thanks Open Table) at 6 with plans for an 8pm show. The restaurant was packed and yet our reservation honored and we sat immediately. I chose the regular menu and the gluten free menu. Just the regular menu for my wife. Both menus had a large varied offering from pizza to porcetta. A glass of wine for my wife and the best tasting gluten free beer called Daura (from Spain) for me. The waitress was fantastic - she was informative, friendly, attentive and added a great touch to the meal with her charming way. We ordered a SOCA for an appetizer with tomato sauce, broccoli rabe and sausage. This was a new experience for me. It was interesting (made from chickpea) and I like the crust and toppings however with the sauce the middle got soggy and was hard to eat, I had the most delicious gluten free bread (foccacia style) with a dipping dish of olive oil and creamy ricotta cheese floating in the middle. Frankly the best gluten free bread I have ever tasted. The waitress said there are over 30 ingredients in the bread, whatever, it tasted terrific unlike most gluten free bread! For entrees my had linguine with clams and I had Porchetta. The linguine was standard fare (regular pasta), The porchetta was good (not great) but I think because it was from the gluten free menu there was not much punch to it. Next time I will try a gluten free pasta. For dessert, a sweet creamy pudding with hazelnut and pistachios. Very delicious. I would have given 3 stars however given that this was a totally wheat free meal for me and the wonderful service, 4 stars for Nizza. read more

This is a good casual spot to grab a gluten-free dinner. The service was friendly and the food was brought to the table quickly. I enjoyed the Funghi Socca. I thought socca meant pizza, but it's actually a thin chickpea pancake crust. It was moist and the mushroom and onion flavors came across nicely. I wish there had been more than a small dollop of goat cheese on top, however. The crust was not crispy, but I actually preferred it that way. My fellow dining companions did not, but to each their own. FYI regarding the restroom situation: There are 2 separate units in the back - very clean and spacious with a mirror - but no sink. You use a tiny one outside the bathrooms in the corner, which is pretty much in clear view of most diners. Be careful with the sink: Because it's so tiny, at full strength the water will splash onto your pants! read more

The Good: Walked in around 8pm and was immediately seated at a table for two. I was delighted to see that they have a separate gluten free menu. The waiter was averagely kind and attentive. My friend and I were each given a small portion of our own breads for the table since she is not gluten free. I ordered the Parma (2.0) Socca, which is a pizza with the crust made from chickpeas that had red sauce, large shavings of creamy crescenza cheese, prosciutto, arugula and parmesan. It was delicious and filling but didn't make me feel stuffed or bloated like other personal pizzas would. The Meh: My friend's entree was accidentally made gluten free but they quickly rectified the situation. The waiter kept asking my friend if she was done eating and if he could take her plate just because she was slowly enjoying her meal while we chatted, so that was slightly annoying. The bathrooms are a little claustrophobic with the sink outside the doors about 2 feet away from a table. The menu lacked in pasta dishes with meat and pizzas with non-spicy meats. Was walking down 9th ave with some friends and spotted Nizza's Bottomless brunch deal($16 in addition to your entree for unlimited mimosas, bellini or sangria for 90minutes) so we decided to drop in. Overall Nizza's atmosphere was comfortable and fresh, with an open window seating area that mixes into sidewalk seating. I ordered the avocado toast and a poached egg, and my friends ordered the French toast. The food was ok a little bland, but the drinks and the service were great. Overall ok experience, but not sure this is somewhere I'd come back to, at least not for brunch! read more

I have been to Nizza for just an expresso, brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks. Their guest volume fluctuates so its best to make a reservation. The atmosphere screams old NYC and feels like a special place with unique aesthetic. Prices are fair and food quality is high. My favorite dish is their Socca with eggs for Brunch or their very healthy salmon salad for lunch or dinner. They also have wood brick oven pizzas and house made pastas. They have a 90 minute boozy brunch for either Mimosa or Bellini. I visit for brunch more than anything. During the summer they have an frozen Aperol Spritz which is summer in a glass. The manager and staff are friendly and recognize if you are a repeat customer. If the weather is right; they do have outdoor seating on 9th Ave. I would definitely recommend if you have NYC guests and want that HK neighborhood experience. read more

I got a 8:30pm reservation at 8pm on a Saturday. Thank you for taking us on short notice! Nizza was buzzing on a Saturday night. The mood is intimate, but in a unique way, you also feel very close to your neighbor - maybe it's because the tables are quite stuffed together. My friends and I were seated by the bathroom, which wasn't the best spot. Our waiter was sort of rushing us but stopped being so attentive after we ordered. I was unimpressed by his knowledge of the wine options. He'd often look into the distance when serving us - not much eye contact. However, besides these minor gripes, the food was great. Their gluten-free menu is extensive, and my friend said the gluten-free spaghettini was great. The ravioli dishes definitely won for the table: great sauce - not too complex but unique and tasty - and the quantity was good. Um, yes. This place is amazing and yes, you have to try everything on the menu. I've had delivery from here twice and if their delivery is this good, I can't imagine how great it is in store. I've had the meatballs, lamb sausage pizza and the quattro formaggio and everything was as amazing as it sounds. They have a delicious crust that you can taste and see, that it's made with love. They clearly use quality toppings and really put the time into making each pizza perfect. The meatballs were great, only with there was more than TWO in the order. Came for the Instagram-famous burrata - and it did not disappoint. My sister and I shared the burrata and then the pansoti. The cheese itself was so delicious and the tomato and pesto were very good and very fresh (the toast it was served on was disappointingly chewy, but I can overlook that.) As for the pasta, it was ok, nothing to write home about. We definitely would have tried more dishes but this place is SO DANG EXPENSIVE! We arrived around 4:30 PM on a Wednesday and were seated immediately, but the service was very very slow. Considering how empty the restaurant was at the time, we were shocked at how long we had to wait for someone to take our order, clear our plates, and get us our check. Not to mention we drank all of our water before our food arrived and didn't get a refill until after we were finished eating (one of my biggest pet peeves! I am a thirsty gal!) Overall, this place is convenient if you're looking for an early dinner before a Broadway show. It's close to many of the theaters, but otherwise I probably won't find myself coming back. read more

Some nice choices of toppings (the burrata/tomato/olive is delicious), and a decent selection of pasta and random brunch items. Don't believe the door guy at Marseilles next door when he says it's "just the same but less busy". Fans of bottomless cocktails may enjoy the $16 sangria. Went here for my fiancé's birthday from a recommendation from a friend who'd been here previously and we were not at all disappointed! Firstly, service was top-notch! Totally forgot to ask the server for his name but deserves huge kudos. Super attentive. The food was amazing. We had the focaccete as an appetizer, fiancé had the pansoti and I had the Sunday pasta. Both meals to die for and a very generous portion without being at all overwhelming. Had the tortofo dessert which was delicious. Along with our food we had a cocktail; fiancé had a peach Bellini martini and I had a prosecco mimosa. Both beyond delicious. Great location on 9th avenue and right near the theater district. Came to Nizza twice. Primarily, because I'm gluten free and don't have many GF options in New Jersey for italian, so when I do crave Italian, I definitely want it! Met a friend here for a quick lunch and had a pretty solid time. It was super quiet, we might have been the only ones in the restaurant were it not for a fellow at the bar. We had the waitstaff's full attention, so our water never ran empty. We were here mainly for their gluten free options - I can (and do) eat anything, but my friend has a severe gluten intolerance. She really liked their gluten-free fettucce, and I had the regular penne carbonara. It was pretty good, though the penne was a bit overcooked for my liking. Atmosphere: We sat outdoors which was right on 9th avenue. Surprisingly it wasn't extremely loud for a Saturday. We were seated right away at 11:30am which was nice. Food: We did the brunch menu which had the option for bottomless brunch, but we both had to opt out of it because we both had to work. If we didn't have to work, we both definitely would've participated, they had so many drink options. We got Nonnas meatballs to share which comes 2 per serving over a bed of polenta. The meatballs were perfectly cooked and seasoned well and the best part was there were raisins in the meatballs that added a touch of sweetness. I got the baked eggs which were the same thing as shakshuka but instead of being served with pita bread it was served with focaccia. The eggs were poached in the spicy tomato sauce and had chunks of italian sausage in it. It was delicious and filling. My friend got the uova a piacere (eggs your way) and got them scrambled. Mixing the eggs with the roasted tomatoes added a great flavor to the dish. Since we didn't get drinks the meal was decently priced. Service: Our waiter was very attentive and had great and quick service. One thing that waiters forget to do is ask about allergies and he did right off the bat which was great. Our food came out quickly and our plates were cleared in a timely manner. Portions were reasonable and tasty. The outdoor seating was very nice with a canvas-type fence to separate the many pedestrians walking by. I had the salad with beets, almonds and goat cheese. Excellent. My husband had the shrimp with linguine. Also delicious! (Of course I had a taste.) Lost a star because it was a little pricey, with a glass of wine at $14. First of all, it was like getting a quarter chicken from Kentucky Fried Chicken....bone in......super deep fried. Add one table spoon of sauce on the top and three shreds of cheese. Disgusting. Pasta was as good as anything you'd make at home. Their restaurant week combos are $1-2 cheaper than regular priced. Lastly, if you want bread it costs $3 extra. We came in at 11pm, were seated right away. I enjoyed the food here, had tuna and Caesar salads for starters and margarita pizza and salmon for entrees. The food was very good, done to perfection. Zero stars would be more appropriate. Went here for dinner before a show. Wanted certain items that are on the menu, but not in the salad I wanted. Refused to accommodate me, citing this, that, and the other, including some nonsense about the apparently ego inflated, insufferable chef. You would think I was asking them to prepare me a dish of bangers and mash, which clearly isn't a menu choice here. I wanted avocado with my salad, and instead of salmon that comes with this particular salad, I asked to have chicken instead. I was flat out refused. I felt like I was either in the twilight zone, or this was just a joke. Was this a campaign where I was being singled out to be given the worst possible service, to make me have the most miserable experience before seeing a show? If it wasn't crunch time before seeing a show, I would have walked out and eaten dinner elsewhere. I wouldn't have subjected myself to this treatment from restaurant staff, where I have to resort to a confrontation with an ineffectual, idiotic manager, because he wouldn't resolve this satisfactorily. Then, settle for a dish I wasn't happy with. This restaurant is clueless about hospitality. My requests were my personal preferences, and I do not have to give an explanation to anyone why I'd like some avocado in my salad, and why I prefer to have chicken instead of the salmon. I wonder if I had prefaced my requests by saying due to dietary restrictions, I'd prefer such and such, if that would have made any difference, but who knows, maybe the chef would have quit and walked out, over such a rude and unprecedented request. How does the chef handle patrons dietary requests? Has it never come up? It would be unrealistic to think that this restaurant has never had any requests to tweak something, or add something to a dish, or eliminate something from a dish, etc. The owners of this place are either heavily medicated, or are completely clueless running a restaurant by having a dictator for a chef, with a dogmatic mentality, who feels challenged and disrespected if a patron requests for him to make such a minor, insignificant adjustment with a salad!! How about accommodating simple requests, specifically with items that are already on the menu, and being flexible and gracious in order to satisfy a patron. How about keeping in mind that patrons are paying you for the food and the service which keeps you in business, and in exchange for that, have the decency and respect to insure the patron has a pleasant experience, from beginning to end, so they're motivated to come back. Delicious. We ordered the burrata which is a good size to share, and the Brussel sprouts. What made these roasted Brussel sprouts special, is that they separate the pieces so it's crunchier and well cooked. It's great that they have so many gluten free options, and I don't think it affects the flavor at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the rigatoni with sausage, mushrooms, and a cream sauce. It was delicious. This is close to broadway shows, and therefore a great opportunity before or after. read more
