it seem like this place is under new management. i was surprised that they changed it to pay first before dining. The price for lunch has gone up also. 16.95 for lunch is high for the food offered here. The soup bar is now available on the weekends and is called a ramen bar. Sushi seems to have gotten better, but most rolls are still filled with imitation crab meat. No more steamed spare ribs, so only shu mei, tripe, chicken and pigs feet. I used to really like the dim sum area, but today, it was either tough or bland. The ramen bar was the same, it needed a ton of soy sauce and salt to add flavor to it. Crayfish were watery and were without flavor also. I'm not sure what happened to this place. It used to be a treat to take my parents here for the dim sums, but there's no flavor in any of their food anymore. I went on a Saturday around 1:30pm and I expected to be crowds like in the past, but it was rather slow for a weekend. You get what you paid for! For the price that you paid, the food pretty decent. Service wise is pretty much self serve since is buffet, the servers mostly pretty attentive, they always there to pick up your plate so you can have more room on your table for your next meal. Ambience wise is look like Chinese buffet restaurant. My suggestion, if you can afford little bit more, go to decent restaurant better, because you put something into your body. Don't expect much. Like I wouldn't even be mad if I got sick with the way inflation is going. Your usual Chinese buffet options: sushi, fried rice, chow mein, fried shrimp, cocktail shrimp, desserts, fruits, etc. Their fried rice was very bland, but everything else was decent. Seafood: salt and pepper fried shrimp, salt and pepper fried soft crab, crawfish, cocktail shrimp, cold mussels, sushi, sashimi, honey walnut prawns... all pretty good! We were here celebrating the life of my Aunt. There were about 50 of us (or so) that arrived in increments. The restaurant is huge so it can accommodate probably hundreds of diners. Anyway, I was so excited to hit up all the stations because I was starving. Sadly, the only thing that tasted good and kept me coming back for more was the cantaloupe and jello. Every single thing I tried either had zero flavor or was undercooked (i.e., chicken wings). Pretty disappointing because the variety is there -- just not the quality. I've been here countless times it's my go to Chinese buffet in sacramento. They have a big selection of warm and hot foods. There is also a sushi section, salad bar, they even have a griddle so you can pick ingredients and they'll whoop it up for you! They have a lot of seating inside so waiting isn't usually an issue. The price can't be beat for being an AYCE buffet. It has things like honey walnut shrimp, BBQ, oysters, fruit and even more. They put French fries in their rolls which I find funny but honestly pretty smart. The service is not the best but they still get their work done. I noticed the attendant gave an Asian family a tray with fortune cookies after they were almost finished with their dinner. The attendant did the same for the Hispanic family. I waited for about 10-15 minutes to see if she would do the same for our table. She did not bring our table any cookies. We had to ask. First off. This establishment is clean and well kept. It's all you can eat for about 13.95 for lunch, 10% discount for seniors. Wait staff are courageous and attentive. They immediately brought extra napkins without being asked, iced water and straws. There are several stations. From memory there is a sushi/sashimi bar, a grill where trays of marinated chicken, marinated pork, squid and large shrimp are offered. Just place whatever you choose on a plate and a nice person grills it. Nearby that is a Mongolian Stir Fry Barbecue station offering thin sliced meat/steak etc, veggies etc. I have not tried it, but it looks pretty much complete such as you might find in a Mongolian BBQ restaurant. Next time will hit that first. They have a dessert area, a salad bar with very fresh veggies and fresh fruit. I found a dim sum area offering various steam buns, spring rolls, pot stickers, siu mai, egg tart, chicken feet and much more. For asian style offerings - too many to list. Trays of steamed rice, fried rice, chow mien noodles , shrimp, baked fish, steamed fish. All the usual Chinese style offerings, pepper chicken, walnut chicken, broccoli beef, too many to list. The parking lot is always packed, and the diners look happy. I took a chance, in spite of the 2.5 star rating. It paid off. Super scrumptious. I don't eat much meat, but the hot pepper chicken brought me back for seconds. Perfect crunch, perfect spice, perfect tenderness. Peel and eat shrimp was sweet and fresh, and the warm egg custard buns and tarts melted in my mouth. Also, the crab salad rivaled that of Sizzler and brought me right back to childhood! From the most recent visit on Father's Day this place goes from 2 to 1 star. It would be 2 stars if they didn't upcharge $2-3 or so per person without telling us just because it's Father's Day. Just don't do it, take the advice of the several hundred bad reviews for this place and go somewhere else. When it first opened years ago it was decent, but it sure went downhill. This place is cheap for a reason. It is far below quality food and boarders on unsanitary. If you can catch them with crab legs, they are skinny, covered in barnacles and sooooo dried out. The shrimps are rubbery, salad bar is wilted, fruit is dried out, sushi is not fresh as the raw fish colors were faded or grey. Service is just as abysmal. They are rude and care more about turn over to get more butts in the seat than taking care of your needs, but best believe they have no issue demanding a tip. They demand a 10% tip minimum which isn't a big deal nor that much as we generally tip 15-20% but we were going to leave cash and the waitress complained when she saw the credit card receipt read no tip. Based on her minimal service she provided during our meal, the amount we planned to leave was plenty and over the 10% but because of her rudeness and pushiness we left $5 and left. If you are going to push and demand a tip, put a notice that a 10% tip will be added to each bill like other restaurants do for large parties versus hounding your customers into awkward or hostile situations. It was my second time and this time I went with my family on a weekend during lunch time (Around 1-2). The place was very crowded, and the waitress (she had red hair and looked like she was 50), gave my mom an attitude when my mom asked for napkins. She pointed out the napkin box in the middle of the table. It took a while for waters to be refilled and I had to get her attention to get some more for my mom. She spilled the ice and water on my table and didn't even apologize. She used the said napkins to wipe it off and left it halfway dry. And behold the last part of our trip, I tell you it is not a joke: she came to chase us to the door after we took care of the bill and asked if that was the only amount we left as a tip. My mom clarified yes it was and she took the pen and scribbled all over the receipt and said "No, I don't want that little tip" and had a mini meltdown in front of us, and all I said was "wow" as we all just walked away.
