    Burnt shrimp egg foo young

Ordered egg foo young from #grubhub and this is what I got! Thank goodness I ordered other food so I would have something to eat!

Number 1 Chinese Restaurant on Parkside Avenue, Ewing, NJ., is classified at the apex of an imaginary list of Chinese houses. Only if you hold that list upside down will it come close to the top. This is strictly a takeout and delivery joint with good reason. If you walk in as I did to order and pick up your own food, you will discovery that it is unkempt with a layer of grime throughout. Not a pleasant place to wait. The menu and prices are about what you would expect for a low budget kitchen. The lunch specials are all under seven bucks for a pile of stale fried rice and choice of soup or egg roll in addition to the main offering. I found my orange chicken to be small pieces of clucker, thickly breaded and wok fried so that it was not always possible to discern the actual chicken within its cocoon. As indicated, the fried rice was at least a day old, underheated, clumpy and dyed with whatever bouillon they cooked it with. The sauce was thick and gloopy, but the flavor was not so bad. The overall experience just left much to be desired. The only saving grace was the egg roll, which was actually better than expected, with pork strips within in addition to cabbage and spouts. Not the place I would return to unless it was the only game in town.

In spite of good reviews and a second change in decor, that business was not able to survive very long. As I walked in to pick up my order I had mixed feelings. Sad about the fact that another very good and unique European restaurant was gone, and wondering about the future success of the new business. I noticed that the place had been painted and redecorated once again . This I guess could be called an Indian fusion house, offering many common dishes along with some I had not heard of. They also have Indo Chinese options. My first visit was so good that I thought I would return once more before reviewing. I tried the garlic naan and aloo paratha, both good to very good. The paratha was very thin and had a delicately spiced potato mixture inside, I wished there was more filling but enjoyed as it was. The chicken 65 tasted very good, but had too much sauce as I would have preferred the pieces of meat to be crispy. Chicken Radha was a rustic curry with about half of a bone in chicken. I loved this dish and the portion was 2 meals. Chicken biryani was equally tasty and came with very good raita. Chicken Manchow soup was new to me, think hot and sour soup and then add copious amounts of ginger and garlic. You have to like garlic to appreciate this soup, and I do and did! Service was friendly on both visits and orders were packed up very well, with additional onion, lime and peppers for the biryani and crispy noodles to top the soup with. A good friend went to dine in and had a great meal too, taking advantage of the all you can eat lunch Thali. I'm at about 4.5 stars for now....

Overall Ratings: Restaurant 5/5 Service 5/5 Food 4/5 Parking Free Atmosphere: The restaurant is very nicely decorated, clean, and open. Service: Our server was very friendly, answered all of our questions with professionalism, and came by a couple of times to make sure we were doing well and that our water was topped off. What We Ordered: (The menu is quite extensive with many items to try.) -Punjabi Samosa (Very good with just the right amount of spice. The dipping sauces were a great addition.) -Goat Biryani (The portion was very generous and it was delicious.) -Butter Chicken (It was good but could have been better. The chicken was just cut-up Tandoori chicken, and I would have preferred fresh chicken.) -Mango Lassi (It was good and refreshing.) Final Thoughts: I would definitely go again. The food we tried was very good, the service was excellent, and the staff were friendly.

It seems that both the pepper steak and chicken with broccoli were in the same sauce (& I've actually found that to be common in this area for some reason) but were tasty overall. The egg roll was quite greasy and the wonton soup was pretty solid with the broth being the star. Oh the white rice was cooked how I expect and wish all Chinese white rice is cooked so that's a plus. Overall a true 3.5 star rating but since halves aren't possible I had to go to 3 because it certainly wasn't a 4.

For this year's Chinese New Year, I decided to take the family there for our New Year dinner, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The place hasn't changed a bit, the decor still looks exactly how I remember it, which brought back memories. Since some of my family and friends don't enjoy the same spice level as I do, we adjusted the heat for dinner, and everything still came out fantastic. We ordered the whole steamed fish, happy fish, green beans, tea smoked duck, pork chop, beef pan fried noodles, and more. Every dish was delicious, and the flavors were spot on. The service was a bit tentative at times, but the quality of the food definitely made up for it. Overall, it was a wonderful meal and a great way to celebrate. I definitely need to come back more often.
