First time here. Was highly recommended. Ordered sesame chicken and Mongolian beef. I will say it was a shame because the sauces were very good. However, the quality of the meat was not. The sesame chicken was pretty much little balls of fat and grizzle. When you cut them open, it looked disgusting we threw it out. No actual solid pieces of chicken. The Mongolian beef was better, but the beef was also either a cheap cut or a way over cooked. It was very very chewy. One and done. read more

This place has gone downhill over the years, which is unfortunate . At this point the food is basically inedible. The curry sauce had a nice spice to it but it was too watered down to be used as a dipping sauce or to pour over your food. Number 1 Chinese Restaurant on Parkside Avenue, Ewing, NJ., is classified at the apex of an imaginary list of Chinese houses. Only if you hold that list upside down will it come close to the top. This is strictly a takeout and delivery joint with good reason. If you walk in as I did to order and pick up your own food, you will discovery that it is unkempt with a layer of grime throughout. Not a pleasant place to wait. The menu and prices are about what you would expect for a low budget kitchen. The lunch specials are all under seven bucks for a pile of stale fried rice and choice of soup or egg roll in addition to the main offering. I found my orange chicken to be small pieces of clucker, thickly breaded and wok fried so that it was not always possible to discern the actual chicken within its cocoon. As indicated, the fried rice was at least a day old, underheated, clumpy and dyed with whatever bouillon they cooked it with. The sauce was thick and gloopy, but the flavor was not so bad. The overall experience just left much to be desired. The only saving grace was the egg roll, which was actually better than expected, with pork strips within in addition to cabbage and spouts. This local Chinese takeout restaurant crosses off all the boxes for a good takeout place. The food is decent, the staff is kind, and the service is quick. During quarantine, it is especially nice to see that this place is also taking the necessary precautions to keep both customers and staff safe. Everyone is wearing protective equipment, transactions are done through a window and not at the register, and reminders for proper social distancing are posted. Good food and good service. Best Chinese food in the area. I've ordered steamed entrees from many other places, which turned out to be more oil drenched and soggy. But this place makes it RIGHT and FRESH and I like that you can choose a sauce on the side with it (steamed healthy entrees). Also, I'm addicted to their fried wontons :-) Overall, food is good. Their service is good, some of them may not understand English that well but they usually then get someone else to takeover...no big deal. Delivery is pretty fast as well. read more

Singapore mei fun - excellent curry dish! We don't ever order curry dishes but decided to try something different and was told it was very popular by staff. We enjoyed it very much and will definitely order it again! Shrimp rolls - excellent & crispy- we cut them in half so you get 1 baby shrimp in each end, put hot mustard, soy and duck sauce on each end. Yum! General Tsos Shrimp - we usually order general Tsos chicken but after reading reviews we decided to try the general Tso's shrimp and happy we did! We were impressed with the nice quantity of jumbo, thick battered and crispy shrimp. Normally I would be turned off if I read thick batter but it was crispy and delicious. Dragon and Phoenix- ordered for the first time and like the side by side combination of shrimp and chicken. The shrimp was not battered and was nice and slightly spicy. We ordered lunch with work and it was below mediocre. I ordered General Tso's Chick with "Pork" fried rice. The chicken was ok, they rice doesn't look anything like the pictures online and there's very little pork in there. I tried it a few years ago and didn't like it but thought i'd give it another try and it still disappoints. Is this the number one Chinese restaurant I've ever tried? No. But, the food is well prepared, the service is fast and courteous, and they deliver for free. I haven't been disappointed by anything I've ordered from this place, except that their egg rolls aren't great due to being a bit bland and overly greasy. Everything else has been lovely -- traditional American-Chinese fare, such as chicken with broccoli, lo mein, fried rice, crab rangoons, shrimp with lobster sauce, etc. We order from Number One when it has been a long day and we don't want to cook. Not too often, but we'll keep ordering from here. They also give a free 2 liter of Pepsi with delivery. I don't drink it, but it's a nice gesture and good to have on hand for guests, so it works out. read more

I order last night. What was delivered to me was literally the most disgusting food I have ever been served. I got the hot and sour soup, chicken fried rice, and sesame beef with lo mein. Everything had this distinct weird smell which I can only describe as foot ish or like a locker room. I actually posted a nice review for them last time I ordered because the food was genuinely nice. I did order close to when they were closing so maybe this horrible odor/ taste was some kind of way to get back at me? I ordered on Grubhub and they were kind enough to issue me a full refund. Then I walked all of my "food" directly to the dumpster where it was laid to rest. Never again will they get any money from me. I am seriously warning you! Number 1 is number one for delivery. They always tell us it will be 30 minutes, and unless they're really busy, it usually takes far less time. The food is delivered hot and much quicker than their estimate. The chicken with vegetables has a great mix of chicken and vegetables. The chicken cuts they use are great. They don't use a lot of "filler" vegetables like onions - you get the good stuff. The prices are the best in the area. What more could you ask for? Excellent food! I had wonton soup and it was delicious, my friend got boneless bbq ribs. The price was very reasonable especially considering the large portions we got. We were both very pleased with our food. The delivery boy was also very friendly despite not speaking much English, he got out of his car and stood in the drizzling rain while waiting for us instead of staying in his car, which I thought was very professional as well as helpful as we ordered delivery to the parking lot outside our dormitory. He was very kind to us as we were fumbling a bit to carry our food and pay him at the same time. Delivery took about half an hour which I thought was reasonable as it was a Friday night. Number 1 China is delicious. I only get dumplings and veggie-fried rice, but they are really good. The perfect amount of veggies in the rice, and with each entree they give you a little packet with a fortune cookie, fork, and sauces. They are extremely quick with delivery as well, so you're never waiting a long time for your order. My go-to Chinese place! read more
