I have been to No 1 Chinese years ago and thought it was middle of the road. A day or two ago my wife brought home some General Tso's chicken and I didn't know where it was from. I was eating the left overs and was actually surprised at how bad it was. This dish is one I've had dozens of times, some amazing, some not so much. This one was not spicy in the slightest. The sauce was too sweet. The rice was super yellow and had a weird taste that I couldn't describe. The worst part was the chicken. The texture and flavor was off and I couldn't figure out why, so I broke open the last 3-4 pieces. It turns out, these 1-1.5" chunks of chicken were 90% breading. Unlike meat, they remained hard when heated. I dug through and found a tiny piece of meat in each. Maybe a quarter teaspoon worth. I guess if the sauce is slathered on, many people may not know the difference, but good general tso's chicken is amazing, and this was worse than a "kit" from walmart. Terrible. The potstickers were average and the crab rangoon was mediocre. There is probably a better place within a 2-3 minute drive. Better to avoid this one. read more

It's not fancy, but it definitely hit the spot when the majority of restaurants closed for Christmas. I didn't feel like driving very far and this was only a 4 minute drive away, so I ordered here through UberEATS for pick up. I ordered the Singapore noodles, triple delight, shrimp with lobster sauce and donuts, and my order was ready in 15 minutes. The noodles were spiced just like requested (mild medium) and filled with chopped meat and vegetables. The triple delight had large portions of shrimp, beef, and chicken. The shrimp with lobster sauce also had large helpings of jumbo shrimp, although a bit watery. The donuts were your basic yeast donuts covered in granulated sugar, but I'm not picky. It's no Michelin star restaurant, but I guess since the my expectations were pretty low going in based on previous reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. Moral of the story: go in with low expectations, and I'm 85% sure they'll exceed them. Service was friendly and quick. I never find it to be just alright, it's typically either authentically great or attempting to appeal to the masses bad! No 1 Chinese is the latter, just bad in all regards! The fried rice is unusually yellow and so over cooked that it's dry and crumbly! The egg drop soup, for which was supposed to be wonton soup, was bland and so much egg that I counted it for breakfast the next day! Ordered No. 1 Chinese last night to be delivered to the Wake Forest campus. It was delivered very quickly probably less than 15 minutes after I placed the order. I know they are close but I was still impressed. I ordered the Sesame Chicken Combo meal. Everything arrived very hot. It was all pretty standard. A-OK as the rating says. The chicken was standard fried pieces with a sweet/spicy sauce. The rice, though an odd yellow color, was well cooked and had bits of pork in it. The egg roll was pretty typical. I wandered in here on a late night to get a sushi fix. Yes, this place has sushi and it is surprisingly pretty good and fresh. My favorite dish is Kung Pao Chicken- when it's done good, it's great. When it isn't.... it's pretty bad. And No. 1 did not do a good job. It was more peanuts and peppers and celery than chicken. And it ended up being fairly soupy, as there was a lot more sauce and juice than there was actual meat and food. Maybe I should have tried ordering something a little easier to handle the first time out, or maybe I should have lowered my expectations. I ate their house tofu and it was actually very delicious. It was a very sweet sauce, kind of like sweet and sour. My friends ate their fried chicken and fried rice. Their rice is kind of bland, nothing more than yellow rice but if you make it pork fried rice or chicken it does give it more flavor. The vegetables could also use a little more flavor or spice, but all in all I enjoyed it! My friends and I ate here two days in a row! So my first mistake was ordering through Beyond Menu...a real hassle that charged me a $3.00 delivery charge and more than $8 added for a tip (that seems a bit much for delivery 3 minutes to my house. No. 1 Chinese was like 1 hr/15 min to get our food to us. We ordered the spicy chicken with pork fried rice and eggroll (2 meals $18+) and one spicy chicken the same add broccoli,, one pint chicken lo mein, one order fried wontons, and 5 extra eggrolls. Everything was cold. The rice was under-cooked, dry and hard. It was mostly onions and green bell peppers in what should have been chicken. We didn't even get the lo mein for my 3 year old, but we sure got charged for it. Their rice has been this way the last 3 times we have ordered from them. This is definitely our last time for a very long time. I can say they gave us lots of sauces, probably because I paid $0.50 each for 6 orders. In the end, $63+ we had to eat sandwiches and the No.1 Chinese got thrown out. I could have bought 3 days worth of groceries for that and it would have been food not wasted. read more

We ordered online for delivery around 6:45 and wait until 8:30 to call and check on the progress of our delivery. On their website they estimate the delivery time to be between 30-60 minutes. The lady who answered the phone supposedly had not received our order and was very rude and unhelpful. She offered to deliver the food within thirty minutes, but when we asked for any type of discount, she immediately avoided the question and later denied us the discount.
