A very overdue review for No Bull Rehab. A little background on our dog, Bubba: we adopted him from the Inland Valley Humane Society after looking for a young adult dog who would fit well with our two small kids. Bubba, a 2-year-old shepherd bulldog mix, seemed perfect -- sweet, potty trained, and a staff favorite. We fell in love immediately. Once we brought him home, though, we realized he had some significant behavioral challenges. Bubba was highly reactive to other dogs and had severe separation anxiety. He was destructive when left alone and even injured himself trying to escape two metal crates. Managing his anxiety while also handling his reactivity became overwhelming for our family. I've had dogs my whole life, so at first I tried working through it on my own. Eventually, though, it became clear we needed professional help. We met with several trainers, but nothing felt like the right fit. Many approaches seemed like temporary fixes that didn't address the root causes of his behavior. When we were expecting our third child, I knew we needed a real solution, so I started researching behavior-focused board-and-train programs. After a lot of searching, I found No Bull Rehab through a rescue organization they worked with. From the very first interaction, Sarah was incredibly responsive, empathetic, and informative. That communication alone stood out immediately. We brought Bubba in for a consultation with Drew and Sarah, and after just one meeting, we knew they were the right people for him. Their ability to read and explain his behavior was such a relief. Drew is so calm and completely in tune with all things dog. We enrolled Bubba in their 8-week behavior modification board-and-train program focused on his reactivity and anxiety. Throughout the process, communication was excellent. We received regular updates and always felt informed and supported. At one point, Bubba injured his foot by puncturing in between his toe on a walk during training, and they took incredible care of him -- coordinating vet visits, follow-ups, and adjusting his training while he healed. We trusted them so much that we chose to leave him there during recovery rather than bring him home. What really made the difference was that Drew didn't just train Bubba -- he trained us. He showed us realistic, sustainable ways to structure our daily life so Bubba could feel safe, calm, and successful. Unlike other programs that required hours of daily training, No Bull's approach fit naturally into real family life. The change in Bubba has been incredible. He's still himself -- a little anxious and quirky -- but now we have the tools to manage him safely and confidently. We can walk him daily, leave him home alone, and enjoy life with him instead of constantly living on edge. Most importantly, he's happier, and so are we. Even after training, Sarah and Drew have continued to be responsive and supportive whenever we've had questions. We live in Orange County and still bring Bubba back to No Bull whenever we travel because they know and understand him so well. Having an English Bulldog requires a lot of knowledge about their breed and they were very knowledgeable and reassuring with all my questions. Just finished our first session with Drew and Sarah and we are so happy that we found them! Background: we rescued a (lab/shepherd/border collie?) stray that was dumped / wandering the streets in our neighborhood and named her Lucy, after the smart but mischievous, Lucy Ricardo. We knew she was a good dog, but we didn't know the first thing about training this "wild card". Although it took a while, she now trusts us, but she is still such a fearful / skittish dog. She jumps at any sudden noises or movements, barks at strangers (especially men wearing hats/sunglasses) who pass her on the sidewalk or who are just minding their business at the dog park, and has lunged at a few dogs whom she felt were getting "too close" to me. She is always on edge and "in her own head". Whenever she encounters new situations, she gets scared, barks, then wants to run away. Even while walking up to the gate at No Bull Rehab, she pulled her leash to try to turn around and get back into the car. Right from the start, Sarah and Drew calmly observed her and created a space where she could let her guard down and just be. They quickly earned her trust and she started warming up to them! They demonstrated the basics (such as leash handling to guide my dog on how / where to walk, etc.), had me practice, and gave me homework. I appreciate these baby steps / drills because it will help my dog establish a solid foundation for further learning. I don't know what we would have done without Sarah and Drew at No Bull! We adopted our dog right before the pandemic began in the US, and so we never had the chance to get her properly trained, so by the time we got to No Bull (and had recently welcomed a newborn into the family), we were in dire straits. Our dog was extremely reactive on walks, to noises in the house, occasionally aggressive towards me, and generally running the house. We were terrified that she might redirect aggression towards the new baby, and consulted multiple trainers who all seemed to think that she was a lost cause, until we were directed to No Bull. Our initial call with Sarah turned everything around for us - she knew so much about our dog's breed and could help us understand why she was acting the way she was, and what they could do to shift her behavior and our relationship to her. After weeks of anxiety and catastrophic thinking, we finally could relax a little bit. Soon after, we did a site visit where we got to meet both Sarah and Drew and Drew got to spend some time with the dog. We could tell right away that he was a dog whisperer! We all agreed that the best program for our pup was the extended board and train program. It was really hard to part ways with her for so many weeks, but completely worth it. We did three site visits during that time where Drew essentially trained us in how to sustain the work that they had been doing with her. After we brought her home, Sarah and Drew remained a source of support through all the hiccups (and mistakes we made) as we acclimated her back home with this new dynamic and training regimen. It was really important for us to maintain strong boundaries for 6 months after her training which seemed difficult at first but became second nature eventually. Whenever we hit a snag where the dog began to test a boundary, I could contact Sarah and Drew and they would always reply quickly with support and advice. At the end of six months, we've been able to experiment with loosening some of the boundaries to see how much she could handle it, and Sarah and Drew have again made themselves available to help us figure out what that looks like. They've also helped us with advice on how to set things up in the house so that there are strong boundaries between the baby and the dog. We continue to board our dog with No Bull every time we leave town It's completely worth the drive knowing that she's with people who know her, and know what she needs in terms of training. They also have close connections to a great groomer and a dogwalker so we can get her exercise and cleaned up when she stays with them. Oh! And a note to people who are thinking about doing this but are nervous about e-collar training. We had our concerns as well, but in conversation with S & D, they actually had us put the collars on our wrists so we could understand what it feels like, and realize that it's not painful, but rather a jolt similar to getting elbowed under the table when you say the wrong thing at a dinner party. On its lowest settings (which is usually all our dog needs), it almost feels like getting tickled. TLDR: Sarah and Drew saved our dog's life and gave us the tools to keep her in our family. I don't even know where to start to say how thankful my husband and I are for No Bull Rehab - Drew & Sarah. My husband and I are parents of two English Bulldogs Pumpkin & Patch. Pumpkin is afraid of everything from umbrellas to skateboards to baby gates. While she is at No Bull and Drew works with her, she has really transformed to be super confident and loves playing with other dogs and Drew will ride a scooter next to her and she doesn't even flinch. Patch is a different type of Bulldog in which he was extremely hyper. We did not know how to handle him. We did training sessions with Drew and he explained and taught us the tools we needed to change his behavior. All of the training tools were calm and collective. Not only did Drew teach us the tools we needed, he explained why Patch was behaving the way he was and we were able to really understand the reason for his actions. The tools Drew gave us can only go so far if we do not practice them at home, though. My husband and I have been dedicated since day one and Patch is truly a different dog. Lastly, my husband and I travel a lot. We just got back from a three week vacation in which we boarded Pumpkin & Patch for the three weeks at No Bull train & board. I've been using No bull for the last two plus years. My friend told me about them after they trained her dog and I can't put into words how much I love their service! I have a blind special needs dog and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my dog. The trainer Drew is so loving and caring for the dogs under his care and I never worry about training or boarding my dog there. Words can't truly grasp how grateful I am to have crossed paths with Sarah and Drew, but I'll try. Before I discovered No Bull Rehab, I pretty much became a slave to my dog due to his behaviors. Mylo had separation anxiety so bad that he started to bark for hours straight when I'd leave. I received neighbor complaints. In addition to Mylo's anxiety, he struggled with impulsivity and reactivity. This made taking him places with me stressful (and not always feasible) and leaving him home alone equally as stressful. I tried everything... training elsewhere, working with his vet who fully dosed him on trazodone, playing music, kongs, bully sticks, excessive exercise to make him tired, etc. Nothing worked; I was terrified I'd have to give him to a home where someone could be with him 24/7. Then I discovered Sarah and Drew. Sarah has such a compassionate way of communicating. She is very attentive and well versed. She explained everything about Mylo's behavior in a way in which I could understand, took her time with me when I'd ask lots of questions, and held space for me when I'd vent about Mylo. As for Drew, I don't know what he did with Mylo... but it must be magic because when I picked him up from his Board and Train, he was a completely different dog. He was exactly what Mylo needed. Drew guided me through Mylo's training tools and set us up for a successful transition back home. I can now come and go from my house and walk Mylo both on and off leash with ease. My once little anxious energizer bunny is now a zen pup WITHOUT medication. I am deeply indebted to both of them for all they did for Mylo and I, and I trust them immensely. I can't say enough wonderful things about Drew And Sarah at No Bull Rehab! They are extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring, and I would not trust anyone else to train or board my Cruz! They are my dog's favorite humans and they have done so much to help me and my boy Cruz! My English bulldog who has aggression issues and I have been working with Sarah And Drew for only a couple of months. We have done a couple of training classes and my dog Spike stays with them when I travel which is pretty frequently. I can't describe to you the difference that it has made and I'm excited to be investing in the board and train six week program starting in July. My dog is a rescue that has severe aggression issues when triggered and learning to work through that has been unimaginable. It's an investment but one well worth it, considering the alternative to an aggressive dog. learning to work through it and be able to keep him and keep him happy and me happy is worth every penny.
