You can park in the additional parking spots all around Shopper Ln. I have been a customer for many years and tried many delicious dishes. They serve a traditional Mexican open buffet at certain times. The waiting line is expected, but don't feel discouraged because it moves fast. The decor is vibrant enriched with colorful murals. The staff are very welcoming and genuinely warm. The restaurant has cozy and inviting ambience. Outdoor and indoor seating are available. I placed an online order for pickup. It was fast and convenient since I had friends coming for dinner. I ordered the following: - Burrito Panchon 5/5 Stuffed with carnita, beans and rice, served with cream, beans and guacamole. Huge portion! You can choose your protein. - Fajitas Cielo Mar Y Tierra 5/5 Marinated beef, shrimp, chicken. It served with sauteed bell peppers tomatoes and onions, rice, guacamole, beans and pico de gallo. It was smoky, savory and flavorful. - Vegetarian Enchiladas 5/5 Corn tortillas stuffed with bell pepper, corn, onion, carrot, cilantro, squash, and topped with a combination of cream and jack cheese. The portion was enormous. It was a very flavorful and savory. - Carna Asada 5/5 Flap meat marinated with homemade adobo. It served with pico de gallo, rice & guacamole. The meat was juicy and tender. It was such a delicious dish. - Empanadas 5/5 I chose chicken empanadas. It served with salad. The empanadas was crispy from outside and very flavorful. - Ensalada de Nopales 5/5 Diced cactus mixed with tomatoes, onion, lime, and cilantro. - Taquitos 5/5 It was crispy from outside with savory and juicy filling. - Taco de Cameron , taco de Pescado & taco de Birria 5/5 They were savory, juicy and delicious. - Beans 5/5 Topped with melted cheese, really delicious - Large Bionico Bowl 5/5 Fresh fruits like topped strawberries, mango, cantaloupe, banana, papaya, blueberries, apples, pineapple topped with granola and shaved coconut. It was rich, creamy. The fruits were fresh and sweet. It was heavenly! Every box was wrapped with layers of plastic wrap perfectly. I got a bag full of different types of salsa with my order and another bag with tortilla chips. The food portions were very generous. Every dish reflected authenticity and deliciousness. Fonda Don Chon has high quality, flavorful and delicious food. It is my FAVORITE MEXICAN RESTAURANT.

I had the watermelon which was refreshing considering the hot afternoon. The inside was cozy with painted walls. Their selection were varied but limited seafood. Their shrimp dishes were okay verging on the chewy side as they were sitting there. The carnitas was very flavorful and so was the beef stew. You could get as much guacamole as you want. Their cake was awful, very grainy. I replenished my watermelon drink with more watermelon. The servers were very friendly and attentive.

My dad recommended it here and if he's recommending good authentic Mexican food you know it's good. He's a hard man to please especially since he's been surrounded with great food all his life and being a restaurant owner himself. The owner/chef Patty is the sweetest and asked what it was we were in the made for. I was eyeing the nopales and huevo then she said she was making costillitas with nopal and she sold me. The salsa verde was perfect. Some places rush salsa verde and it tastes too citrusy. This had the right amount of sazón. My son had chilaquiles which were also delicious, not a fan of restaurant ones because I make them myself at home and nothing compares however hers were tasty if I was in the mood I would order them from here. I know where to go if I want Mexican comfort food now. Since my mom passed away (greatest cook who ever lived) it's hard finding something that reminds of you home. I think Patty definitely hit that mark for me. You be the judge and stop by and try it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. P.s. tortillas are made by hand

Service makes me hesitant to return…read more Interior was nice, old-school restaurant vibes, but didn't look completely dated or anything like some places. We got served some good old fashioned chips and salsa, always a favorite. I think I saw a piece of mango floating in it but I could be wrong, as it did not taste sweet. Tasted quite peppery so maybe it was a bell pepper. I have no idea. Salsa did have a different taste than the usual onion, garlic, tomato, cilantro so I'm unsure what they do here. Chips were fine, not hot and fresh but had a nice crunch to them. Most Mexican restaurants I've been to have this similar combination option and I saw their menu had a combo with three items: one enchilada, one chile relleno and one crunchy taco. I thought, awesome, I get to try one of each and see how I like 'em. I normally get a taquito with my meal so I asked the waiter if it was ok to order this combo with a taquito or flauta in place of the crunchy taco. He said no. Not, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience but we don't allow substitutions, thank you for understanding, etc." Just, no. Ok...? Never been to a place that cared much about me subbing a taco for a taquito, unless the plates are preassembled with a crunchy taco, which doesn't make any sense. Thought that was a little off-putting but onward... We ordered the potato taquito appetizer that was listed on their menu. Plate arrives and it's huge - which made sense since it cost $18 - but they were all visibly beef taquitos. I happened to be dining with my vegetarian friend, hence the ordering of potato taquitos, so we kindly informed the waiter that we ordered potato and these were all beef taquitos. Waiter confusingly indicated that these were potato taquitos and we kind of glanced at each other like... uhhh, there's clearly shredded beef in there sticking out, so we pointed it out. Waiter looks again, points to one specific taquito on the plate and says, "Well, that one is potato." The waiter eventually clarified that the taquitos were actually beef with potato. I politely informed him that since my friend is vegetarian and the menu didn't specify beef in the taquitos, we couldn't accept or eat the dish. The waiter was pushy about it and suggested we just take them home and eat the leftovers. Dude no. I ordered potato taquitos and we're only two people, and this was a massive plate of around 15 taquitos. I don't have an air fryer or oven at home, either, so I really have no proper way of reheating and I'm just one person. Either way, none of this was something I felt was worth arguing over. Just take the friggin taquitos back. We sat there uncomfortably for a bit and waited for our main meals to arrive. Got my combo, and it was honestly pretty good. Flavors were fresh and vibrant, even the taco was good although I was bitter it was a half-moon fried piece of tortilla with beef instead of a rolled fried piece of tortilla with beef. :( It's a joke, chill. We finished and the waiter brought out the bill. We quickly left our cards for payment and in clear view for the waiter to pick up so we could leave and digest by walking at the mall or something, but he never came. He walked by a few times, cards were sticking out... still nothing. After 30 minutes, my friend says she thinks we have to pay at the front. Would've been nice to know about 30 minutes ago. Paid at the front, left, and I won't be coming back. Food was actually pretty good but it unfortunately did not outweigh the lack of service and overall experience of eating here. Parking was good, at least.

I came last year and had an interaction with a young lady taking orders when I asked for Taquitos Tejanos with no cheese. She corrected me by saying, "So you just want taquitos?" It wasn't what she said so much as the tone and the look I received. I thought, okay, my apologies--I must have ordered it wrong. Despite that, we've continued coming because this place has always felt like a second home to me. I'm Tejana, and although I can make my own puffy tacos, we come here because the food takes me back to San Antonio. The other night, we ordered more than 15 tacos with different fillings. I specifically ordered two asada tacos on flour tortillas with only lettuce and cheese. When we got home, they had tomatoes and no cheese. I also ordered a puffy picadillo taco, and it barely had any lettuce or cheese. These tacos aren't cheap, and I don't mind paying the price when the quality is there--but please don't start getting skimpy with the toppings or inconsistent with orders. If the new generation is taking over, that's completely fine. But please teach them the importance of consistency and, most importantly, being polite to customers. A little kindness goes a long way. I'm sharing this because I genuinely care about this place and would love to see it continue to feel like the "second home" it has been for me for so many years.

I also don't appreciate the poor attitude that two of the bartenders have been displaying lately. They have favorites and it shows a lot. I understand that when it's time to close it's time to close and go. But if you're serving other people and treating those same people nicer because they're your favorites, well that's not cool. In the end we're all patrons. We all support when consuming. But above all, it's the poor attitude that I will never pay for. I used to like coming here often. I probably will never again. I also know that occasionally in the bar they overcharge for cocktails thinking customers will not notice because they've been drinking and bartenders refuse to adjust the check. This is terrible and now you know.

Title: Misleading survey reward - fine print appeared only after completion…read more Review: I completed an online survey specifically because the restaurant offered a free mini dessert in exchange. After finishing the survey, I received a confirmation email for the dessert. When I showed the digital confirmation to our waitress, she had to get an approval from Alex the manager. Alex asked to see my phone to "prove" the receipt, then told the waitress the offer was actually meant for graduates only. Nowhere on the survey, the confirmation email, or any promotional material I saw was this graduate restriction mentioned. If I had known, I wouldn't have spent time filling out the survey. To make matters worse, I frequent this restaurant and have noticed that It Alex never visits any of the tables to check on customers. But he has no problem sitting with his family as though he owns the place. Offering a reward for completing a survey, then adding restrictions only after a customer tries to redeem it, feels misleading. A simple heads-up in the survey would have saved everyone time and frustration. I frequent this restaurant weekly and spend well over $100.00 on breakfast for both me and my wife we enjoy the food and the service we receive from the team but since Alex never visits any tables or customers while I'm there for Alex to question his own company's promotion I feel Alex should do his due diligence and know what his company his promoting. Thank you to the staff is why we frequent this establishment. Alex please do better. Thank you. David
