The bagels are actually pretty good the day of... but then make sure you don't leave them in the bag because after one day, they will go stale and turn into cute little rings you can probably use to play ring toss or something. So next time going to give House of Bagels in San Carlos a try on Door Dash since they allow you to add an option like no onions. This used to be a great place to get some very good bagels and pastries. Cheese filled pastry was outstanding, so guess what the company does? They discontinue it. I was going to Noah's every two weeks and buying a dozen bagels. I like their bagels but the bagels are not worth putting up with such rude indifferent people! Two weeks ago I asked for poppy seed bagels as part of my order. The girl said there were none. I pointed to the tray of poppy seed bagels in the lower left hand corner and asked "what about these?" She said "you didn't say you wanted that kind". I asked "Are they poppy seed bagels or not?" She said "Yeah, I guess". This week I went in and the store was empty. Two young women were working behind the counter. I waited as I saw one of them had seen me. She continued doing some cleaning. I waited a little longer. finally after several minutes I said "Excuse me, I would like a dozen bagels." The other girl said in a minute then proceeded to continue putting eggs into a metal container, one egg at a time and very slowly. After quite a few minutes and no service, I took my phone out and took their photos. I said "I can't believe how you treat customers." They responded in loud voices and some man came out and instead of asking what he could help with, he started berating me. WOW! Unbelievable they are still in business! I come in here to purchase soda when I don't want to go to Walgreens. The lines are always long and they're always understaffed. The service is polite when you get to the counter, but there's always at least two people ignoring the line doing busy work behind the counter. I like bread quite a lot but everything here smells processed up to its ears so I don't ever purchase anything they actually make. Just the over priced (over a dollar more expensive than anywhere else) soda. And really it's only because I'm lazy. That laziness will get me every time. read more

They do not fill the orders correctly. I ordered cheese bagels from the online app and I got plain bagels in return. This is unacceptable and it is not what I paid for. Wow. So apparently service sucks (according to all the Yelp reviews), but the bagels are actually pretty good. I get catering here for my company and they always have everything ready for me to either pick up or delivered. (The website for ordering is not very intuitive for ordering though). I've tried almost all the bagels and almost all the schmears and I have to say that they're all pretty good. The bagels are baked to a good texture and consistency and the schmears all have good flavor as well. Toast your bagel, throw on some schmear and you've got a delicious breakfast. Overall, I really like the bagels here. I just hope I don't encounter bad service because that would definitely drop a star. read more

Unless I am there to watch them put the order together they do not pay attention to whose bag they are putting it in. But when I tried to open a really tightly lidded coffee yesterday and literally got blistering burns on my arm I was told by a staff member " that has happened three times to me". It's one thing to get bad customer service from an employee because of whatever reason. However, to get bad service from the Manager Javier was not acceptable. Not really the example to give to your employees. From start to finish, all around bad customer service from the Manager Javier. He made us wait to have our bagels cut with noone in the place as if he wanted to show us for asking him to do his job. Good thing he has good employees and one of them asked us what we were waiting for when he went into the back. As she started cutting the bagels with the machine, he popped out and told her to stop. She ignored him and then he told her to shut off machine and do it with the knife. She was polite and knows when to ignore a bad directive to help a customer out. Javier, if you are having a bad day or you can't at least put on a good face for your customers. Maybe it's time to use some vacation time. It's a shame that as a customer, there are places that have people in a leadership position without the proper skills or training. I love Noah's Bagels! I'm glad there is a location in downtown San Mateo. I came here to grab a snack and there was a long line of people. When I was in line, there were a lot of tasty treats in the display case. I decided to order a chocolate chip bagel and a cinnamon twist. The bagel had a lot of chocolate chips, which I loved! The cinnamon twist was really good. It reminded me of a twisted croissant with cinnamon on the outside, and icing on the top. I think its great that Noah's bagels is next to Jamba Juice and Starbucks! read more

Manager is a piece of work... I know that my review won't change your mind about getting bagels somewhere, but, I'm hoping the owner/manager will see this. It doesn't take a "manager" to know that if there is an issue with an order and it can be easily remedied that you do it. Bottom line: I ordered a turkey and cheese bagel sandwich. You decided to charge me a'la carte for each item...I didn't know it until I asked why I didn't get a bag of chips that comes with it...You went on to want to debate me about why it doesn't come with chips because it was supposedly a' la carte. I didn't realize that a turkey and cheese bagel sandwich is considered such an unusual item in that I am charged for each item including lettuce charge and tomato charge etc. Apparently, had I ordered a turkey sandwich including bacon which is on the menu, I would have gotten the chips and paid less money. How does that work? Order more, pay less... I know that this seems ridiculous, and it truly is...The point of this review is not over a stupid bag of chips or even the ridiculous idea that I ordered an a'la carte sandwich. He wasn't going to budge and wanted to argue about what a sandwich is...Lame, the right thing to do was to say, whoops, sorry about this misunderstanding, here are your chips since he already over charged me for his crappy bagel sandwich. Stopped by Noah's for a late lunch around 2pm. I didn't experience any of the bad customer services other reviews have talked about. There were a few other people in front of me, but I placed my order and received my bagel sandwich in less than 5 minutes. I always order the Hummus Veg Out sandwich on an asiago bagel at Noah's or Einstein's, and it doesn't disappoint! The bagel was nicely toasted, and the ingredients were all fresh. Very inconsistent bake in our bag of bagels this morning. Some had a nice crust, others were gummy and under-baked. The bagels should be more consistent, plain and simple. The door dash delivery bag was however sealed with a tamper proof sticker and the cream cheese was cold when we opened them up. I think it's time for a chat with the person at the oven. read more

I came by this San Mateo location at about 9:30am on a Tuesday. It is busy but not to the point where the wait is bad. The food is very fresh and I only waited 5mins or so for my stuff to be toasted. Minus 1 star b/c the cashier was cranky for no good reasons. What I like most about this location is they take social distancing seriously. There is a big sign at eye level that says there can only be 5 customers in the store at a time to ensure sufficient social distancing. Yet, I notice some people who stopped, looked at the sign, and STILL went into the store (why?!?). The manager quietly told them to wait outside until some people have received their bagels and exit so they can come in. Awesome. read more

I've come here a few times so far and anyone whose ever been to this chain store knows what to expect. I am a huge fan of supporting locally owned businesses like House of Bagels San Mateo. Noah's Bagels changed my view of what a bagel shop should be. SELECTION: Noah's has plenty to choose from. PRICES: Noah's has pretty competitive prices. COFFEE: Noah's allows you to fill your own cup for $1...any size. So I bring my 20oz coffee mug :-) The coffee is pretty good too. The customer service is very good and is attentive. I'm usually in and out within 5 minutes. I've had a few of their breakfast sandwiches and they've all been very good. I would highly recommend Noah's over House of Bagels San Mateo. You'll immediately see why when you realize HOB has run out of bagels by 8am most days and their coffee is always empty. Both of those issues aren't because HOB San Mateo is busy but because they're always ill prepared and they make you feel like your bothering them. HOB takes almost 20 min per order. read more

I didn't experience the customer service woes my fellow Yelpers have. I stopped by on a Sunday morning around 9 a.m. and there was a line but it moved fairly quickly (the only reason it stalled was because one customer took a super long time and asked a million and one questions... like no offense, but they're baGELS, MA'AM). When it came to be my turn I swiftly ordered a toasted asiago bagel with strawberry cream cheese. The guy who took my order was quick and nice. The other cashier, who dealt with the aforementioned lady, seemed like he didn't care to be there but wasn't unfriendly by any means and was surprisingly patient with her. It took a little while to get my bagel, but it wasn't an ungodly wait and there were tables inside and out to have a seat and wait. The bagel itself was tasty, though I would've liked a bit more cheese on/in it since that was a little hard to detect. The cream cheese was delightful - perfectly creamy and not too sweet at all. Ive always loved Noahs bagels! Before coming to this location, I read the reviews and was hesitant to come here. Luckily when my boyfriend and i went here we had good service from the cashier. She was sweet and kept a smile on her face. I ordered the Turkey avocado club on an asiago bagel. My boyfriend got the bacon, avocado, tomato on an asiago bagel and he added two eggs and cheese and asked for no tomato. Our food came out pretty quick. Unfortunately they messed up my boyfriends bagel and forgot the cheese and two eggs and didnt take out the tomato. He asked them to fix it, and this lady from the back comes out with a little attitude and seemed annoyed she had to re-make it. It took them a while to re-make it too.. when he finally got his bagel they still didnt take out the tomato but everything else was fine. Hopefully we'll have a much better experience with the food next time because I really like this place. read more
