This is my third visit here, first two times, wonderful, this time not so much. My husbands gumbo was served before my plate was ready, but it was served barely warm and WAY TOO SALTY, along with bread that was so stale you could smell it. My shrimp and grits was really good, for $22, there could have been a little more than the half cup of grits. Overall, disappointing and when we pointed out how stale the bread was and how salty the jumbo was, they wanted to deny and argue. The cook/owner grudgingly comped the gumbo. Louisiana style food in a nice location downtown Salem. You walk up to order and then find a table, which was a little difficult with kiddos, but manageable. Drinks were served very quickly and were great but the food took over an hour to get. The food was okay, but given the high prices, I wouldn't return. read more

Super awkward experience. You go to a counter to order food and drinks, they act like everything is a chore and they're overwhelmed when it's not busy. Don't come to this place expecting good service. They're robotic and didn't provide a welcoming experience. I was so excited to try this place. I'm from the south and the thing I miss the most from there is the food. My daughter and I went for my birthday dinner. So very disappointed. After taking our order we never saw our server again. Someone else came to offer refills after we were already done eating. The Hot Bird, which was so lauded, tasted of nothing but hot sauce. It was so overwhelming that you couldn't even taste the chicken. My shrimp poboy was a bland pile of ingredients. The only good thing was the fancy fries but those alone are not enough to make me come back. I left 3/4 of a sandwich on my plate and wasn't once asked about it. No, was your food not ok, or do you want a box, etc. Not once during or after our meal did anyone inquire at all how we were doing. I had the Hot Bird Sandwich. AMAZING! The chicken breast was fried to perfection, not overdone inside but crunchy to bite into. The hot sauce went well on this sandwich. We entered and saw a board with three specials written on it. As I tried to read it, two different people told me to sit anywhere, so we felt rushed. I thought it said shrimp and grits on the board, but I couldn't catch the price. When they took our order, there was no mention of specials. We ordered shrimp and grits with a side sprout salad and got the price on the menu, not a special price . I ordered a catfish platter, listed on the menu under the "mains" section. A descriptor of the mains section lists a few side salad options, I ordered a cesear side salad. The server said side salads are not available with platter dishes, then said she would ask the manager. After all was said and done, we heard nothing about salads. We didnt even get a sprout salad that we almost paid for without having gotten it. I dont know what it is about salads, but they are very stingy with their plant based foods. The catfish tasted more like the river and less like fish. The shrimp was a bit overcooked. The restaurant needs some sound buffers on the ceiling, it was very loud and uncomfortable. There were fancy booths on one wall that looked fun, except that they are so on display that to sit in one would make me feel like I was on stage for all to see. read more

Our options were practically nothing in town on Memorial Day and I ordered an egg on a baking powder biscuit with rosemary gravy. The biscuit was huge and on the dry side, the gravy was a thick unappetizing flour paste and a hint of rosemary. I could really only enjoy the egg. And a pile of fries that came on my breakfast dish. I was in a date when I ate here the first time. So due to that, no pictures. The Noble Wave is in what used to be the old browns town bar. Right next to the Reed Opera house. On Liberty between State and Court street. The energy of the place was comfortable and mellow. People were sitting and enjoying each other's company, conversation, and the food. Employees moved with purpose yet not frantic, which I appreciate. Plenty of room and a variety of tables as well as the bar top for seating. Now the food: the pictures on here do not do it justice! We ordered the herbed goat appetizer. Creamy goat cheese, olive tapenade, roasted walnuts and fresh baguette to eat it with. Fresh and delicious. I ordered an andouille sausage po boy. For those who don't know a po boy would be called a sub sandwich everywhere else. A nice sub roll bun with lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo. They import their French bread from Louisiana herself. My sandwich was delicious and filling. My date ordered the fried cauliflower po boy. The cauliflower was fried properly and lightly. No excess oil. Both of us very much enjoyed our food. I'm happy to give the Noble wave 5/5. One of the best dining experiences I've had in quite sometime. I wholeheartedly welcome them to Salem and hope they decide to stay for a very long time. read more

Amazing Sunday lunch. Well laid out COVID plan for spacing and cleanliness. Outdoor tables were clean and the servers were on top of bussing quickly during turnover. Ordered the chicken and waffles, first time ever having them. The presentation was well plated. Egg was over easy, the dollop of spiced maple butter a sweet surprise. Chicken was flavorful, impressively moist, and the crunch on the fried breading was perfect. Waffle was also delicious, all evidence of from scratch cooking made to order, and delicious. Ordered beignets for dessert. Flavor was out of this world. Wait staff brought them out at perfect timing. It's evident that the choreography of this business is well planned. Waitress was polite and attentive, not intrusive. We will definitely return and I've already made several recommendations to friends. read more

People think this place is the best thing since sliced bread, but they are truly terrible. Terrible business decisions lead to terrible customer service. They focus on brewing beer and making cocktails and their menu suffers. The food takes forever to arrive and it's not worth the wait. They advertise takeout order availability but sometimes decline to do take out orders when reached by phone. If you go for brunch they have only black coffee (sometimes, sometimes the single small pot is broken.) Have tried multiple times to let them redeem themselves. Save your time, save your money, make yourself happy and go anywhere else. read more

Great new brewery and Cajun restaurant in booming downtown Salem. Went in for their soft opening on 5/11 and had some great menu items as they test everything out. Tried 2 of their cocktails, a Negroni and a Sazerac, both were great and their liquor selection looks good, small but eclectic collection of some high quality stuff. They are still working on getting their own 1 barrel brew house going in back and anticipate getting them on tap in a few months so will reserve the 5 star until I get to check those out. Had a decent start for a selection of menu items as this was the soft opening, everything we had was great though. Tried the hush puppies, had a great chicken and sausage gumbo, and GF got the catfish sandwich. Staff was really great and they were all super excited for the menu choices, food, and beverages, they do have a great tap selection from some local favorites and others until they get their own ready. I stopped in here while a couple of the others in my party were down the street at a place that I wasn't interested in visiting. I had a good drink here, but that's it. The vibe is weird and everyone looked bored. There weren't a lot of people in here for a Saturday night. I got the creole poutine which sounded amazing, but it wasn't. I was in the bathroom with an upset stomach before I could even get out of there. The taste was okay - it didn't taste bad. My stomach was cramping all night and I just did the fetal position rocking back and forth for hours. I was lucky I made it home. I didn't even finish the poutine! awful. I would never go back. All of that . . . and the bartender didn't flinch when I told him it was awful and making me ill. I should have just left . . . but I paid the dang tab because I believe in Karma. They weren't even full, I can't imagine the wait on a night when there's a line. waiter finally comes back and offers a tab, we ask if we can order dessert, my husband asks for bread pudding. He tells us it will be 40 more minutes, he'll run put the order in. I didn't get to order my beignets. the bread pudding finally comes, I ask for my beignets to go and am told they'll be another 20 minutes because of the people ahead of me. I'd already been there for an hour and a half, so I declined. I shared my husband's bread pudding, it was a bit like soggy frosted french toast but not too terrible. We won't be back. I would like to say, this place is very new, so the only reason this is 4 stars and not 5, is because there is still a few customer service kinks to be worked out. HOWEVER, This i believe, is soon to become a popular spot for the non-problematic people of salem. This place has a wicked personality/atmosphere , and I can only tell is going to ripen with age. The icing on the cake, quite literally however, is the food. The food is PHENOMENAL. The menu isn't huge, which is probably best for them right now but the brains in that kitchen are truly up to something! and I can't wait to see where they might take the menu. We wanted to try this new restaurant and we were not disappointed..ordered the beignet chickens sliders OMG so good! The spicy fried pickles were to die for! If we lived closer I'd be down everyday! Their hambergers were excellent also. We ordered a plate of beignets for dessert.they were good but recommend them not to be fried in the same oil as the hot chicken had a little hot chicken after taste but still the best we've had in Salem. Each time it's been very busy, which meant slow service and long wait for food. It was great sandwich - tasty, fries cooked to perfection and served with a yummy fry sauce. A little spendy for my lunch budget, but definitely worth a splurge every now and then. We recently moved to Salem from Wisconsin and have been looking for a place with cheese curds and thankfully Noble wave came up on our search. So naturally we wanted to try them out. They were so good! The batter was excellent. We also wanted to try their gumbo, but they were unfortunately out so we will for sure be back to try a cup. Besides cheese curds, we ordered a regular chicken sandwich and a hot one. They were the juiciest chicken sandwiches my husband and I have ever had. We paired the sandwiches with some local beer they had on tap and enjoyed our dinner on our patio in the afternoon sun. 100% recommend! read more

Was excited to have some Cajun/creole food in town. We ordered the hot bird sandwich with Cesar salad, shrimp poboy with potato salad, Lousiana poutine, Marion berry cider, and black butte porter. The drinks were the highlight of the meal. Both tasty and exceeded expectations. The food left a lot to be desired. The hot bird was over fried leaving it tough and dry. Couldn't taste the hot sauce on the chicken, but the hot sauce included with the sandwich was good. Cole slaw was pretty dry. No one wants a dry hot chicken sandwich. The Cesar salad was not too bad. Wouldn't order or recommend. The shrimp in the poboy was good, but lacked spice. This sandwich was overly dry as well. Wouldn't order/recommend. Louisiana poutine sounded great in description, but left a lot to be desired upon presentation. Cheese globes together and hard already. Andouille sausage was not very good. Fries were over cooked. Gravy only at bottom on bowl, which left this dish very dry as well. Glad I didn't order the gumbo because it didn't taste good at all. As a creole/Cajun place I would've expected the music to match. In the bathroom I believe they were playing heavy metal and couldn't hear what was being played in the actual restaurant, but it definitely wasn't southern, Cajun, or creole. Nice, chill atmosphere. Greated by an owner. It was loud but that's fine by me. Having moved here from Nashville (where my husband is from) we were excited to have some more southern food in town. First, we had great local beers and look forward to their own brews. Second, the fried pickles were on point. Can't stress this enough. Shallot fries were unique and salty and delicious and plentiful. Burger was tasty but and small for typical US portions but totally fine by us. Son said it was yummy. My husband had the catfish po'boy and swears it was delicious. He noted the bread especially. I don't like catfish so I'm not a good judge of it! I had a Caesar salad and the dressing was light and lemony, with oddly sweet croutons but hey, my daughter loved them. Scene was great, we will for sure be back!!
