Oh Nohea you have been so disappointing lately. Here's the thing- i LOVE their food. The mixed greens and Spanish Verde are just so delicious. And the decor is so cute. But this place is in need of a serious management overhaul. Every time I have gone in there in the last couple months, it's chaos. There are always 4 or 5 people behind the counter, but it takes the food forever to come out and it takes people FOREVER to order. Yesterday, I called in an order for take out. I was in there for upwards of 20 minutes just waiting to pick up from the counter. Two women cut me in line. I understand that this could be a one-time thing, but this is ALL the time. The staff need to manage their time and customers better. I am so frustrated but will continue to go because truly their food is so good. read more

first let me get it out there - I think Nohea Cafe is a bit pricey. there I said it. I think a sandwich - especially one that is between $8-$9 should at least come with a side of chips - those heavenly Nohea Cafe chips. ok, now that I have that out of the way - this place is so cute and cozy. yes, it's a little cramped, but in this case, they make it work - it's charming. maybe if it was so cramped with people the day I was there I wouldn't feel that way - but when I was there, it worked. I can't wait to return. My sandwich was a chicken caprese and I also bought some chips - those heavenly sea salt housemade chips - and a fresh brewed iced tea. I loved that sandwich, but the bread on there was so good I could have eaten it alone with the chips and I would have been happy. They also have old school retro candy, in addition to several kinds of pastries (including black and white cookies)...my next trip will be for dessert, coffee and conversation for sure. Quick note - you order, pay, get a number and sit....but get your drink first. We were kind of confused when we first walked in and got it all wrong :-/ but the nice counter lady and server helped us cause we were totally clueless... What are you waiting for? This place is dynamite. I'm spoiled, I work a few doors from Nohea. I've been there at least 3 times a week since they've opened. They have great coffee, hearty sandwiches and salads. I love their unique selection of specialty items to shop from (think fancy crackers, "cheese snob" cheeses, and cured meats). I stopped in one night to grab a few things to make a cheese plate. They offered to put it all together on a platter and made it look pretty. My friends were so impressed! Oh, I am so definitely a fan. Nohea Cafe is one of those little neighborhood gems that you walk by randomly, stop and stare into the windows (much to window sitters' chagrin) and then finally convince yourself that it's worth checking out. I came in today with my stomach rumbling from neglect and money in my pocket. With a long list of scrumptious-sounding sandwiches, I finally narrowed down my choice to the Chicken Focaccia sandwich--oy. That honey-leek sauce, the warm and soft focaccia--hours later, my salivary glands are having dreams about it. And what's more, is that they aren't just a sandwich shop with Boar's Head products (yum! Meat!), they are also a bakery, a dry goods shop, almost like a little European mart. They carry the same kind of goodies you might find at Gene's in Lincoln Square: dried sausage, cheeses, specialty drinks, Lavosh crackers, even organic baby food. Heck, they even have ice cream! Extra points to Nohea for: -Julius Meinl coffee (way to represent) -A table that looks like it belongs in your parents' dining room and can seat the whole family -Red velvet doughnuts...seriously. Great sandwiches! This is a very cute cafe in the West loop area. My friends and I came here (total of 7) for lunch. We each ordered a sandwich (except for one who ordered a breakfast croissant). Sandwiches were decent. Nothing to complain. The drinks were okay. The owner of the cafe was really nice and offered us free desserts (probably because we were there to test out the food and environment for throwing a potential bridal shower there). She gave us more than enough desserts to try out. The desserts tasted okay..the chocolate cake was probably my favorite. The others were eh.. ok. Overall decent experience. This place has amazing sandwiches! My boyfriend and I stopped here on a whim on Saturday since we were in the neighborhood, starving and needed something quick and easy. Thank you Yelp app on the iphone for finding this place for us! The chicken caprese panini was easily one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Every sandwich on the menu sounded better than the one before it and it was difficult to pick which one to chose! Great flavors for breakfast and lunch - always very fresh, with interesting combinations like the Spicy Ralph and Twisted Ham. Adorable, uplifting, hands down delicious food. What more can I say...Nohea Cafe has it all! I stopped in for lunch today and was instantly impressed the second I walked through the door. The cafe itself is decorated so cute. It warming and homey, and all of the uplifting quips and quotes that adorn the walls are so unique and different from any other corner cafe I've seen. The menu is quite large for a lunch spot which was pleasantly surprising, but also posed a hard decision as to what I will be ordering. It consists of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and paninis. After a long, hard thought, I went with the tuna salad...salad. It was SO FRESH! The tuna was light enough but had such great flavor and the salad underneath was comprised of only the freshest ingredients. I gobbled it all up in record time! Also offered at Nohea Cafe is a unique coffee and latte menu. I wanted to try so many thing such as a carmel macchietto, the Mexican blend, or the aloha latte which has coconut. Trying to eat healthy today, I decided to go with the Americano, which again, was nothing short of pure bliss. Noteworthy: Nohea's special snacks they sell at the counter. These special snacks include assorted teas, popcorn, toffee, cookies, brownies, and additional candy and sweets for days. I felt like I was an ole school corner store, right on Madison Ave! I can't get over how perfect Nohea Cafe is. I'm already thinking about what I am going to order there for lunch tomorrow...because oh yes, I will be returning tomorrow. I love Roscoe Village and this cafe has become one of my favorite meeting places in the city. First, the ambiance is warm and comfortable. The cafe is designed with a variety of seating options. You can sit in a comfortable booth, table, or in a cushy chair. The music selection was excellent. Second, the food is delicious. After going to this restaurant for a sandwich, all other big chain sandwich places are ruined in my mind. I have had so many items on the menu and everything was top quality. If I could separate the reviews for food/drink and service, I would give Nohea 3 stars for quality of food and coffee and one star for service. They have tasty lunch sandwiches and a pretty decent cup of coffee, but their server behind the counter is incredibly rude. About 9 months ago I went to the cafe in the morning to get a coffee. I stepped into Nohea, and the barista immediately asked her what I wanted in a very snarky way. I told her I needed to see the menu to decide, and she rolled her eyes. I am glad that others had better experiences there, but that was it for me. I was so offended that I boycotted Nohea. My coworkers and I will walk 3 blocks out of the way to go to the Starbucks on Madison and Morgan, where the baristas are always sweet and friendly. I do not like to write overly negative reviews, and I deliberated for a long time while deciding if this review is necessary, but I decided it was the right thing to do. Nohea should have the feedback so they can improve their service, and you as the consumer should know what you are getting into. Proceed with caution, and don't expect to be treated well when you go in. read more

I walked in here a couple of weeks ago and have made it my local coffee shop ever since. The atmosphere is warm. The music is nice. Free wifi, so perfect to work away from home. The food and beverages are wonderful. Sandwiches, veg dishes, salades, croissants, delicious pastries, etc The expresso machine should be arriving soon which I think is the only thing missing. The owners (mother and daughter) are very nice and friendly people who know how to make you feel at home. Roscoe Village really needed a place like this. A must. read more

To me, Nohea Cafe is one of those quaint neighborhood places that you definitely would miss if you weren't looking for it. If I didn't have a 2Buck Duck deal, I certainly wouldn't have taken the time to look for the place. Thank goodness I did. I went here for lunch with my sister and ordered the Italian Scallion: Ham, Salami, lettuce, tomato, giardinera, mayo and provolone on ciabatta. She ordered the chicken caprese: chicken breast, greens, tomato, mozzarella, vinaigrette dressing and mayo on foccaccia. We both had the same opinions of each of our sandwiches in that they were tasty. She liked hers better than I did though. I do give them points for everything else though. The ambiance of the place was nice; however if you are annoyed by children running around, I give you fair warning. I didn't mind. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable too, as well as the food selection: meats, cheeses, pastries and bread. Since it's in my neighborhood, I'd probably try this place again. read more

What makes this place great? The staff! It's a mother/daughter team who went out on their first venture together (albeit the mother - Shirley has been in the restaurant business a long time) and couldn't be a nicer pair of people. Great to have a new alternative to Starbucks in Roscoe Village. A very nice ambiance, great food, free wifi, and good coffee. Yay! This place is awesome and I will definitely be back. My girlfriend and I were looking for a place that had good sandwiches, salads, soups, pastries, coffee, etc. This place has all of the above! I actually read the yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. The place is cute (not too big) but definitely can accommodate a decent sized crowd. The outdoor seating is a plus! The menu is impressive (lots to choose from). I had half sandwich and soup (Smokin Turkey and the tomato basil soup). The 1/2 sandwich was a little smaller than I anticipated but it was very tasty. The soup was delicious too! I definitely recommend going back. The food is a little pricey for what you get, but I think they have a nice selection of food. read more

The is the most adorable coffee shop!!! They have great coffee, great service, and an extremely cute environment to start your morning! There are multiple baked goods options, and even though they don't have decaf coffee, they make a wonderfully aromatic decaf americano! They also make killer cuppacinos! There are also delicious sandwiches with Boars Head deli meats, as well as a gluten free bread option that is actually very high quality and tastes a bit like real sourdough bread! The cashier/server was extremely cheerful and helpful :) and a delight! As a Roscoe Village resident, I am always excited to see new restaurants open in the neighborhood. I have been meaning to try Nohea Cafe for a while and finally stopped in for lunch on Friday. All in all, Nohea Cafe is a great spot to grab a coffee, sandwich surf the internet, pick up some baked goods or ice cream and just hang out. I went with my dad and had the special turkey meatloaf sandwich with cole slaw on it. He had the sweet Cubano sandwich with ham, carnitas, pickles, sweet mustard on a ciabatta roll. We picked up a bag of chips and a cupcake to split and we had a good meal. The sandwiches are made fresh and do take a little bit of time to prepare. The chips weren't your normal Lays or Cheetos but homemade chips. They had a few different varieties including salt, barbecue and sweet potato. The cupcake was good, it was no Bleeding Heart cupcake but it was a great way to end the meal. Sweet Nohea also has a few grocery items for sale in addition to the prepared food. It is a great spot to go in Roscoe Village and I am excited to head back. read more

NO hea. I've been going to this cafe, everyday, for a few years. This last time, I ordered a dopio coffee from the owner, Michelle. She tried charging me almost double. I said its the same espresso drink I get everyday. She argued "it's an Americano". Actually, it's not. She then told me to go to Starbucks or Dunkin donuts. I will never return. Just had Nohea Cafe for the first time at work (they will now cater to our office). I really enjoyed the experience. It's very clear that the meats and produce are fresh which really gave me a peasant lunch experience. I stopped in here for a quick breakfast and had the Buenos Dias Scramble and an Almond Latte. The scramble is really more of a breakfast taco, as it's wrapped in either a flour or corn tortilla. I did not specify so they served mine on a flour tortilla. It was delicious and more food than I needed for a light breakfast. If you aren't starving and don't need a lot to eat it may be enough to split with someone. The almond latte was also delicious, made with almond tea. Still some of the best sandwiches I've tasted. The chicken salad is particularly good when on a croissant (I asked, and they accommodated). The ice cream is also amazing. I'm disappointed with the switch to Julius Mienl coffee. I'm a big fan of Metropolis, and Nohea used to brew its La Cordillera Blend which is my favorite. And now, the free wifi might be questionable? I went in today and noticed the Nohea network was password restricted (there was a random linksys network available). I asked the woman who brought my food (not one of the owners) if there was a password for customers and she said she thought there was no more free wifi. Perhaps is was the dude on friday who sat down at a table in the outside seating area to use the wifi even though he didn't purchase anything...Rude! Their website still says there's free wifi though... I'm still a fan, just can't be all "woo hoo! As good as it gets" about it. read more

Yum! This place makes delicious sandwiches...even better than the ones from Costello's across the street. I had a Smokin' Turkey on a pretzel roll and my husband got the Spicy Salsalito. Both were very flavorful and just delicious. Also, the sandwiches were huge, so I could only eat half of mine. The prices may be a little steep for a sandwich, but you get what you pay for. These sandwiches are worth it. I just saw from other reviews that they serve Julius Meinl coffee. I will definitely need to go back for their coffee, that's my favorite kind. I actually had heard of Nohea Cafe because around Christmas time, they had a fun little tree lighting ceremony for all of Roscoe Village. It's a great little family cafe. This place just opened up down the street, and I just finished my sandwich. The pros: Excellent quality meat and toppings Loved the little deli-like set-up where I can get a pound of meat or cheese or crackers. Very cute decor and not crowded with tables. Fantastically friendly service. The cons: Sandwich was $10 after putting my change in the jar. Woah. Imagine if I got a drink and dessert, or soup on the side. We're hitting $20...for lunch. I wasn't sure where to order, if they get busier, they might need to make it clearer. No espresso beverages. Guess I'll still be hitting up Starbucks still :( In the end the pros outweigh the cons. The Nohea Cafe has been in Roscoe Village for several months now and I had been wanting to go to but never got around to it until this past Saturday. A great little sandwich and coffee place in the neighborhood - the inside is comfortable with either booths or tables that are well spaced throughout the restaurant. The entire vibe is cozy and it's pulled off pretty well. The food is good here - for lunch there is an assortment of salads and sandwiches that are based on your typical ham, turkey, roast beef sandwiches with a little creativity thrown in. The special on Saturday was corned beef, Swiss cheese and mustard on a croissant. It was very good - although I'm a huge fan of pretzel rolls, the croissant was soft and tasty. They have several drinks available in the cooler along with coffee and tea. The prices are typical for a sandwich these days - $7 to $10 and they are a good portion of food but not too much. Given that this place is in my neighborhood, I'll be back again to eat. read more

Been here a half dozen times now and every time the sandwich selection has been amazing. The homemade potato chips are out of this world and the prices decent...especially for Roscoe Village. The place is small so a short wait for a table is to be expected....thankfully the patrons seem to be aware of this potential problem and don't appear to linger. On each of visit I was able to snag a table by the time the food was delivered....and I have definitely been there during the lunch hour rush. Definitely one of my favorite lunch spots. read more

Mmm, mmm! Wow, this place is amazing! I ordered a Roscoe Reuben and a cream of spinach soup the other day and it was heaven! Seriously one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Very flavorful and fresh. My husband and I have also had wonderful and delicious catering service from Nohea and couldn't be more pleased. Our guests were more than satisfied! An all around exceptional cafe with great service and food. My only complaint is that they are not open later during the week! They close at 6 p.m. If they were open till 7 p.m. I'd be sending my husband, who works nearby, to pick up dinner here at least once a week! read more

Moved across the street and keep going back to this place all the time. The Italian stallion lunch sandwich is amazing and the breakfast sandwiches are incredible. Super friendly staff and a nice place to sit outside when you want to eat there. Only down side is it is on the pricey side. So be prepared to spend more than your typical breakfast/lunch sandwich spot. They also have a nice small shopping area by the counter. Includes cooking marinades, salsas, hot sauce and much more.
