I was apprehensive to go eat at this restaurant after reading some of the reviews but we had a good meal. The restaurant itself was nice, loved the vibes inside. Wait staff was good. I had the lasagna plus meat and my husband got the salmon. Food came out pretty quickly which was nice. My lasagna wasn't too hot which I didn't love but was pretty good. The restaurant itself had an unpleasant smell, the rice on the scallop risotto was slightly undercooked, the kids pastas were overcooked to the point it was sticking together, and the oxtail was really heavy, all the fat from the oxtail was removed and the saffron polenta was too strong for the dish. read more

So dang excited for this new, Real Italian gem! If you're looking for frozen chicken parm or a small plate of Angel hair to load with parmesan cheese to disguise the freezer burn, this ain't it. This restaurant is real, with a story, and you will feel special eating here (the adorable and genuinely kind servers will make sure of that.) Dinner begins with warm bread and a dish of custom Italian seasoning topped with olive oil. My husband and I ordered the meatball, by far the best meatball on the island, and it is massive. We each got a salad, Caesar and chopped Italian. They were huge and perfect. For my main, I ordered the BUCATINI and my husband ordered the BISTECCA ALLA FLORENTINA and a side of Brussels. All were an 11/10. We ended with the Choc Hazelnut dessert and perfect for the chocolate lover. Our bottle of Sancerre complimented our dinner perfectly. Tip: Get there 20 minutes early and grab a pre-dinner drink at the bar. I appreciate restaurant bars with a good ambiance and whoever designed this restaurant nailed it! Our server Hailey made our night so perfect. Bartender Kelly was excellent. Throughout our night I observed each server being so "on it" tho and just caring. Meh - just not impressive overall. It's a beautiful, thoughtfully designed space, but the food leaves MUCH to be desired, particularly for the price. Kids "shells and cheese" was just noodles with unsalted butter - even called out by an easy-to-please 4 year old for being "yucky and plain". None of the entrees come with pasta, so that has to be ordered separately (chicken parm is just the chicken with nothing else; shrimp scampi is just the shrimp). Ordered the spaghetti as an accompaniment, and the tomato sauce was thin and oddly sweet. Seemed to be understaffed because the wait for food was much longer than expected. read more

I don't like to be unkind but just pass! It wasn't super busy but just say no. The server was sweet but couldn't remember anything. And l the food was even worse. Came out lukewarm and tough. We went there this week for the first time. The service is outstanding. We really like the atmosphere as well, plus the food was excellent.

On an island that is increasingly becoming more attractive to "foodies", Nonna Mia is making a hard turn away from that trend. The meals were lukewarm and unimpressive. Update: returned to give them another chance today--asking to sit at the bar of an empty restaurant promptly at opening. Was turned away as they said "we are being selective about who sits at the bar." They said that to the woman who came in behind me too. So now the service appears to be as lukewarm as the food. 1 star. read more

I honestly don't get the negative reviews for Nonna Mia. Sure, a few chairs aren't the comfiest and the menu is a little different from your typical Italian spot--but that's part of the charm. The menu actually feels thoughtful and homemade, which we loved. The service was fantastic. Allison, our waitress, was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was spot on from start to finish. And the food? Outstanding. For an Italian restaurant in a beach town, my wife and I were seriously impressed (and we've eaten in Italy, so we don't say that lightly). The warm bread with fresh herbs and olive oil was the perfect start. The mussels and clams were fresh and swimming in a delicious red sauce. Perfect first experience at this restaurant. Nice ambience, attentive service, delish food. Our server was knowledgeable and personable and paid great attn to detail. I got the lasagna with bolognese sauce ($5 up charge) and my wife has the gnocchi. My meal was ok but my wife's gnocchi were terrible. It was supposed to be a lemon cream sauce but it literally tasted like warm milk. The service was very good and they brought us a different meal (rigatoni). First of all, the chairs are terrible. Once you sit down, they cannot be moved, so you have to get up, put the chair where you want it, and then try to wiggle in to sit. Next, be prepared to read a menu BOOK of pages and pages and pages. The first half is full of drinks. About 10 pages later you finally reach the salads, appetizers, and serious food. Later, when the food finally comes you have to wonder if this is really supposed to be an Italian restaurant because Parmesan cheese is no where to be found. The portions are not the same for everyone either. One meal at our table was the size of an appetizer. Another meal arrived but it was not the meal ordered so it was returned to the kitchen. So while one person finished their meal the other watched the people coming and going. When the second meal finally arrived it was twice the size of the first meal but barely edible. The bread was the best part of the meal but ask for butter because the oil tasted rancid. Note that the sauce (gravy) is not placed on the pasta, but instead it is all stirred together. One also has to ask the waitress to bring Parmesan cheese because it is never served. If you like angel hair pasta you will be disappointed because they don't have it. We can't comment on desserts because we left. The rigatoni dinner was mediocre at best. We left our bowl which was 75% full. One meat ball is 19 dollars. The atmosphere has no Italian theme to it at all. This was a total disappointment. We will never be back. Off to Ciao's we go! read more

This meal was absolutely fantastic. I was a little hesitant because of the recent reviews, but I can assure you that things are totally different. Luckily we were able to snag an opening on Open Table last minute for Valentine's Day and my husbands birthday. From the moment we walked in until we left he was greeted with happy birthday wishes. We had the chopped salad, muscles, lasagna and baked Amelia. Everything was exceptional. Our server Sandy was great, as were all the staff we interacted with. The smoked lasagna had a depth of flavor that's hard to describe and the table side flambé Amelia was a lot of fun. The canapés and antipasto were a lovely added touch. Simple take out order - lasagna and caesar salad. It was a complete mess. Salad was soggy from over dressing (it should have been on the side for take out) and croutons were mush. Lasagne was about a 3" square with little ricotta and no discernible meat or, as advertised spinach. One glob of rubbery mozzarella on top. Sauce was passable but not nearly enough. All this for the ridiculous price of $43, plus tax. I would have given it a "one", but some guy did come and throw some bread ends in bag for me. The Omni Resorts should be ashamed. read more

Lasagna was cold, gluten free pasta overcooked, first bread delivered was promised to be gluten free and it wasn't. Sauce wasn't properly emulsified. Red sauce not as good as jarred grocery store. We were in town from Jacksonville and thought we would eat dinner at the Veranda's bar on our way home. We arrived and realized it is now Nona Mia and decided to eat at their bar. At 5:30 pm we told we can't eat at the bar because we didn't have a reservation. It was a week night, 5:30pm and the place was empty. The woman then told us we could have drinks at the bar, but only drinks. Apparently, they had room for us to drink, but not eat. I've never experienced this at a restaurant. I will add, my husband and I are in our 60s and we're nicely dressed. We won't be back. read more

Family style limited menu style Service was good, setting very nice with private table seating. Food was average, not exceptional. We ordered a total of 7 glasses of wine/Prosecco. That is all and I had to pay an additional $297 (wine was $24 per glass), 21% gratuity plus an additional 2%not sure why. Total altogether for4 adults and a teenager was $692. We were a family of 7 and arrived for our dinner well before the restaurant was busy . Our server was nice and pleasant but informed us of their menu details. " Their red sauce is very sweet ( way too sweet and not good) pretty much everything on the menu could not be modified , their secondi menu (entrees) do not come with any pasta and if you want it you have to buy an entire full dinner serving for $19 , " ok . We ordered the bruschetta, so bad we sent it back. A totally weird recipe . The shrimp scampi was awful , the lasagna was a gooey pile of pasta and had NO meat . If you wanted any meat with the pasta you had to get the Bolognese sauce on it. All the food was served lukewarm (and that is generous) and it was so late we had to take our kids out to play for about 30 mins between the salads and the entrees. And the restaurant wasn't busy ! All of the people there were pleasant and nice and the atmosphere is lovely , too bad the food is supposed to be the highlight of any visit to a restaurant.
