Disclaimer - we ordered take out on Christmas evening. We arrived into st Augustine on the night of Christmas and the few places that were open were packed! So we found Nonna's and called in for take out. They had a limited menu - just a few pasta dishes and didn't even have veggies instead of pasta. We ordered chicken Alfredo and spaghetti and meatballs. They told us 45- 1 hour for pickup. We called back 5 mins later to see if we could cancel the order and go somewhere else and a different person on the phone said "oh it's ready!" For $40 we got 1/2 of a to go container filled with the pasta concoction. And it was basically reheated food. Something you'd expect from a diner for $7.99. read more

We went lookin for a different place but stumbled on Nonna's , outdoor tables where occupied with another couple who said stay you won't regret it ! Stopped in late one Saturday just before closing, and the staff couldn't be more accommodating. Our small party ordered drinks and a couple entrees. Instead of rushing us thru our visit, the waiter spent time talking to us, offering recommendations and opining on downtown dining. The feeling expressed was that it was a shame that residents shy away from these downtown establishments because on the inconvenience of parking. And this may be partially true, but comes at the risk of missing out on fine establishments such as Nonna's. Both entrees we ordered were excellent, and we'll certainly be back. I suggest anyone in search of good Italian food and good service find out for themselves. read more

My daughter & I were really looking forward to eating at this place. We parked very close by to walk around downtown & eat here before heading back to our hotel. I regret not previously reading their reviews. It was just HORRIBLE! The food, experience, staff etc. The entire staff it seemed- comes out to smoke very close to the tables. They "hang" around like a bunch of high school kids; They were in & out several times. The food was so bad & bland I took 3 bites & had to return my meal. They offered something else, but I was not about to wait another 45 MINUTES! My waitress looked like she had partied hard the night before, her hair was greasy & gross. I mentioned other reviews to my waitress and they didn't seem to bother her. She seemed to have an excuse for all of the complaints. The manager didn't seem to care much either. We love this place! Great atmosphere and great location. Food was absolutely amazing. We had the Adamos pizza, grouper, fried ravioli, calamari, and chicken Alfredo. Chef Adamo is an excellent cook and everything was so fresh. Steve was our server and he was very friendly and attentive. We were driving and found Nonna's by accident. What a delicious accident. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service, and absolutely delicious authentic Italian food. We cannot say enough about how much we love this restaurant. We ended our meal with limoncello shots that tasted better than the ones we had in Sorrento! With Covid messing up our traditional Thanksgiving plans last year, we decided to head to SA and spend the week at the beach. And since we were changing things up, we decided to wander downtown and find something to eat. We have been coming to SA for over 40 years and have never been to Nonna's. We loved it. My wife says the marinara is the best she's ever had out. The meatballs were delicious. I had the shrimp scampi linguine with Alfredo sauce on the side. Everything was awesome. The ambiance was amazing, the restaurant is tucked away in a quiet alley away from all the busy tourist activities. However if you sit outside be aware the horse drawn Carriages provide an odor that does not bode well with your food. My boyfriend and I waited patiently for a table and when we sat down our waitress greeted us politely. However, we tried to order a bottle of wine and we were told they were out of all bottles of sweet wine. When we tried to order food off the already limited menu we were told they were out of Alfredo and penne pasta... um... that was half of their menu? I ordered the chicken piccata (chicken cooked in white wine, butter, lemon and capers) my bf ordered the Marsala. When our food arrived I had three plain pieces of frozen chicken in a pool of butter... for$26? Come on. I asked the waitress why there were no capers... she told me they were out...i asked for Marsala instead and they took the same pieces of chicken and put some mushrooms on top. The spaghetti on the sides wasn't bad except I can make canned tomato sauce with parmesan at home. They were understaffed and out of everything. The busboy asked us for our salt shaker so he could give it to any other table? No service recovery what so ever. We were so disappointed. read more

Called to see the wait time and was told there wasn't a wait but they're waiting for their food truck to arrive and to come in an hour...so we did. When we showed up the waitress immediately said she cannot accommodate us due to a large party. We noticed there was only a party of 6 and the rest of the restaurant was empty. She said we have to come back in 30 mins and then she could take care of us. We walked around and thought well maybe we can sit and at least get wine but when we spoke to her she rudely said again she cannot accommodate us nor can she sit us. Maybe if she didn't waste her time with a smoke break she'd be able to handle more than one party. I understand they may be short staffed but to be rude to people who are trying to support your business isn't going to help. Don't plan to go back. read more

We were wandering around St. Aug looking for an open table and a nice little spot to enjoy our anniversary dinner. Nonna's had some pretty good reviews, and that open table, so we decided to give it a go! When we sat down, the tiny place wasn't too packed.... but it did appear there was only one gal taking care of folks (and maybe 3 bus boys?) Anyway..... We order a few beers and the caprese to start. The caprese took forever to get there, no big deal as we were not in a rush, and man, the tomatoes looked pale and sad. It was however, redeemed by the giant leaves of basil that tasted super fresh, so all in all, 3 stars for the app. It did take another eternity to finally place our order (as I mentioned before, we weren't really in a rush, but after about 20 mins, we were getting a little hungry and anxious. I saw mussels marina on the menu, but was told they were out, but server suggested the special Frutti de Mare, with mussels, scallops, calamari and shrimp. The boyfriend ordered the snapper. Maybe I should just stop ordering seafood dishes, as this was the second time in a week I was really disappointed. The mussels were overcooked and fishy, the calamari rubbery... the shrimp and scallops were OK, but had the fishy taste marinated in. I tried one of each seafood item and decided no thank you. Ugh! I actually had them take it away from the table. (Well, actually the bus boy did, and side note: he was awesome. When we waited 15 minutes to get salt and pepper, we asked him and he brought it right out. As well as making sure we were ok with our drinks. Even though I was disappointed with my meal, we tracked him down and gave HIM a tip for being attentive.) I used to be a server in college, so I know it's a tough job and when you are in the weeds you hang on for dear life sometimes. And I never want to be that awful person I used to wait on (and like the ladies sitting next to us that actually sent their entrees back because they were "too hot". Our server did offer us a free dessert since I did not enjoy the meal, but again, by that time my appetite was gone as I tried to fill up on beer. We declined and she did end up taking my entree off the tab. The snapper was really good, seasoned lightly with salt and pepper, the outside has a nice crunch and was delicious. But overall, not the best first impression and our next visit to St. Aug will no include a stop here. I do feel bad about the review, but I guess it is what it is. read more

I went to Nonna's on a Sunday evening with my boyfriend and was wonderfully surprised with how great the whole experience was! It was "Sangria Sunday" so they brought us free glasses of sangria (this may not be the norm, but there was only one other couple in there so perhaps they were just being nice), which were delicious and definitely homemade. The sangria was fresh and had a great cinnamon taste to it, not like something you'd buy bottled at the store. We were served FRESH bread (really, right out of the oven and nice and soft), and ordered a caprese salad as an appetizer. Both were great. I ordered the eggplant parmesan and got to pick any type of pasta I wanted to accompany it, and my boyfriend got the Sicilian special pasta which had cauliflower, raisins, and some other odd ingredients that sounded unusual, but made an extremely delicious meal. The owner, a very tall Sicilian man, came over to our table several times and chatted with us and also brought the sangria. We could watch the chef make our meals, and our server was really nice and very attentive. I will definitely be going back to Nonna's Trattoria! The family who owns it also owns Gyro House (on south St. George St.), which is more casual, but equally as good. My mom and I were on Aviles street for the "Running of the Bulls" and decided to duck in here for an early dinner. There was a keg in the front of the restaurant which was making the floor around it wet and a couple flies were buzzing around it. I think it was to serve the people on the sidewalk. Not the best ambience as you walk in the door, though. I ordered a cappucino and was a brought a cafe con leche, without any comment. When I asked where the foam might be, they said they didn't have a working foamer. Well, then you dont have cappucinos. . . Okay. My mom wanted a red wine and was told they just had a "blend." The acoustics are terrible. If the waiters are yelling to each other--which happened during our meal a couple times--you can't hear your dining companion. There was some disagreement between two of the waiters that they took no pains to be discreet about and it just added a level of discomfort. I was told they've only been in business a few months, so these may just be kinks to work out. I will say the chicken caesar salad was very good and my mom enjoyed her spaghetti with gargantuan meatballs. read more

Great location, nice atmosphere and good food make this a bit of a hidden gem in St. Augustine. The service wasn't the best...when we first arrived we were the only people there so it was hard to mess that up, however once another table came (then another and so on) our service was seriously lacking. The food was great: calamari to start with excellent marinara, bread with dipping sauce was great and Chicken Parmesan as the main dish. Huge piece of chicken served with spaghetti and salad. Left overs to look forward to for sure. So basically if you can get past the mediocre service, give this place a shot! read more
