On our last day in St Augustine we wanted something other than seafood. I went on yelp and searched for Italian restraints. About 15 pizza places popped up as well as Nonna's. After reading the reviews we decided we had to try it. Coming from an Italian family I try not to set my expectations to high when eating Italian food but man was this amazing. The owner cooks right in front you and everything is extremely fresh. The garlic knots are to die for and the Alfredo sauce is about as close to perfection as you can get. The staff took a lot of smoke breaks ,and one guy walked out of the kitchen and spat on the sidewalk 4 feet away from us-Very classy for the price we paid! We stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night. We had been in town a week and were tired of the places on St George, wanted something quiet and off the beaten path. It was quiet. Only 2-3 other tables in use. First the good. The food was really good. We had the fish and chips special and lasagna with a side salad. All solid choices and well made. Prices were overall pretty fair for the area. With the exception of the cost of $7 to add a simple garden salad to the lasagna. The not so good. No bread offered. Bread was really missed with the lasagna, although the lasagna was solidly cooked and not the soupy type. The restaurant itself is cluttered and disorganized. The kitchen is open, but it's not necessarily something you want to see. It feels like there's potential, but absent management letting the operation slide. I wish I could give 3.5 stars, with the .5 being for location alone. It's such a nice little spot for an Italian restaurant. With a little more effort and direction it could be great, but it's not. read more

Completely disappointed... The restaurant has an Italian flare, but is by far...authentic "ITALIAN". We were the ONLY people (should have given me my first clue) in the restaurant...and, 1) Extremely watered down Sangria w/ no fruit within 2) Caesar Salad was all white Romaine w/ very little cheese atop 3) I had to physically get up to find a server (mind you, again, we were the ONLY ones in the restaurant) ...still, and ask for pepper. He rudely and sharply replies "it's coming". 5) Food was mediocre at best, poorly seasoned and lacking flavor; I had the Chic Parm, the wife had the Lasagna. 6) After a lengthy wait we're finally checked on and ask for the bill... The finished plates were never removed during the lengthy wait. Yes, the server was too busy on the phone sitting inside the restaurant at a table only 10 feet from us. 7) The manager, not the server, then came out and dropped the $71.00 bill and I slightly angrily laughed. He asked how everything was...I then politely explained to him all of the above... His exact response, "I'm sorry Sir, if you come back in, I'll try to take a little better care of you." One would expect maybe an offer for a dessert, a drink, comp-ing a dish, etc. Something to ease the disappointed customer...Nope. Foodies of the World... I embrace Yelp reviews because I genuinely care about food and experiences, I caution your visit there. My girlfriend and I's favorite Italian restaurant. We got the fried ravioli for an appetizer and we thought they were the best things ever. That was until we got our entrees. I got fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and my girlfriend got fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The shrimp were huge and delicious. The chicken melted in your mouth. Remember the soup nazi episode from Seinfeld? The service at this establishment is similar, but without the warmth and fuzziness. The ONLY serving employee in this small restaurant on a busy night literally stands in the open with his back to the restaurant's tables/customers staring at a computer screen ceaselessly. Occasionally he'll leave the computer to deliver a meal or take an order-- but forget about anything else. I've had better table service at Chipotle. He was hostile and completely inattentive. We were seated at a table that wasn't clean-- in fact, it still had a previous customer's unused plate and silverware. It took forever to take/serve/clean up our order. Never offered drink refills or napkins or dessert etc. We did, however, receive table bread approximately 15 minutes after we ordered. The table next to us was jealous-- they said they never received any!! Two stars instead of ZERO because the baked pasta was magnificent-- makes Olive Garden's seem like the frozen dinner product it is. If you're desperate for Italian food in St Augustine and feeling masochistic or have battered-significant-other syndrome give it a shot. read more

La Dolce Vita This place a heart like no other place in St. Augustine. It has a pulse or vibe to it that I've never felt in a place in St. Augustine. It is fitting that it happens to be on one of the oldest street - mapped- in the nation. The food is very warm and comforting here. The coffee is addictive. The service is very excellent. This place is very charming. The food was delicious, light weight in the mouth but very filling. The owner has his two sons working there with him and all three of them just brings a good vibe. It was the most beautiful experience. We sat on the patio and even through the chilly day we had the propane torches lit and burning bright to keep us warm and toasty. We watched as over a dozen horses drawn carriages walked past us down the small cobble stone alley. And in the back ground there was gentle Italian music playing, lightening everyone's mood. Where to start, So we went on a Monday, don't know if that should have made a difference or not, but as soon as I saw Mac & Cheese as the 2nd item under "pasta" I knew I was in trouble. For the appetizer we ordered the Mozzarella Caprese and the caIamari. The mozzarella was good, tomatoes had no taste, but that's not uncommon. The Calamari was obviously frozen because it came out as 10 1" perfect little rings. We asked if we could order Pizza, we were told they don't normally make pizza on Monday, but she would check, we said it's fine we'll order something else. I ordered rigatoni bolognese, what I got was Penne in a sort of Vodka sauce with slices of sausage. When I told the waitress, she said, that's how it comes, either she didn't even know what the difference was, or just played dumb. If you're an Italian Restaurant, you should expect people who order rigatoni bolognese Know what the pasta should be and that it should be a Meat sauce, not a pink sauce with sausage slices. Although I must say the taste of the dish was very good, It's Not what I ordered, and they should know they didn't create the correct dish. My wife ordered the mussels with pasta. We watched one of the chef's helpers grab a box of mussels from the freezer, Frozen Mussels? really?? We also asked for bread for the table, and we were told they don't make bread on Monday's, but they'll see what they can do, lol. When she finally brought out bread, I kid you not, there were about 6 little triangles of bread in a basket. I swear, I felt like if they gave us another piece of bread they would have Lost Money on the table. Little hidden gem..can get crowded on weekend as this is a small boutique restaurant thus not a lot of tables. Alessandro,the owner, was marvelous as was the other staff members. Attentive to all needs. Pasta, perfectly cooked (al dente) and meatballs (gigantic) are made with a mix of meats and spices giving it so much flavor and juiciness you may just forget about the pasta! seafood dishes loaded with all fresh,local catches cooked to perfection. Prices very reasonable ,large portions. Sit outside if you enjoy watching people as Aviles Street is closed to cars. It is a beautiful quaint European-style street. The owner would meet everyone, food was excellent, service was great. Today was none of that. The waiter was nice but seemed new. Let's start with the service, it took forever to take our orders they brought our drinks warm without any ice 3 of the runners were doing nothing but talking and laughing and not being attentive. Ok so now for the food, my wife ordered fettuccine Alfredo and the pasta was cold as if was brought out from the fridge and bland. I'll admit the pasta al forno that I ordered wasn't too bad, it was edible. My young cousin had spaghetti and meatballs also cold, meatballs dry and bland. In conclusion I know some of the reviews here are good maybe I came at a bad day but I do not recommend eating at this establishment. Plenty of better restaurants around that same area. I happened upon this restaurant just off King Street in downtown St Augustine and am so very glad I stopped in. The decor is simple, refined and casual. Service is provided by one of the owners who works hard to ensure customers feel like guests, welcomed as though to his home. Now to the heart of this place: the food. I ordered one of the dinner specials, the rigatoni bolognese. I was not prepared for the robust taste and textures in this dish. The bolognese is a tomato based sauce chock full of meat - in this instance both ground beef and generous amounts of sausage. Also in the sauce: cut carrots and peas and stewed tomatoes cooked down with a blend of Classic Italian herbs and spices, some dry some fresh. The pasta was prepared to precisely the right consistency. The portion was easily enough for two people, though that didn't stop me from enjoying every bite all on my own. In addition, I was served two fabulously crusty dinner rolls and oil based dipping sauce with spices and Parmesan. I paired a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with my meal. I had dinner here last night. I've also been in my bathroom all night. I ordered the calamari, it was very bad, and small pieces were just hard fried pieces. My girlfriend and I had another couple with us and we both split the seafood pasta dish. The other couples dish came out cold and they said they watched it sit on the counter for 10 minutes. They warmed it back up for them. Very tiny pieces of seafood. There must have been bad mussels or clams because all of us had terrible stomachs(not pretty). Not to mention the dish was way over priced at $28. Not good, please spend your money elsewhere. I'm the one that caught all the grief because I recommended the place. read more

We debated between this one and another Italian restaurant a couple doors down, but thanks to Yelp(and their rude owner) we ended up here. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. I wanted to get a cappuccino and a little something to satisfy my sweet tooth after dinner. Nonna's was recommended by my server because it was on the walk back to where I was staying. The 3 gentlemen were very friendly and attentive. They went above and beyond including giving me disposable silverware and plates to take with me. Definitely accommodated my "to go" request. Cappuccino was a double and the cannoli was delicious and fresh. I am sorry I did not get to try lunch or dinner. I will be sure to come back next time I visit St. Augustine. Thank you! read more
