The Regina pizza is my personal favorite. I have a gluten sensitivity and usually would feel absolutely awful after eating pizza. I don't know why, but I don't get sick from pizza like I do at other places. I like their wedge salad. Fresh and good dressing. Eggplant was also good. Wasn't a big fan of the bison burger- a little tough for me, but no points deducted bc I think bison is a leaner meat and perhaps challenging to get soft. read more

Stopped by while traveling for work because of the high reviews. Employees were very personable and nice to talk to while I waited for my take out. The price is fair for personal size fresh mozzarella and basil brick oven pizzas. Sauce is delicious. The oven is gorgeous and apparently carried over from Italy. I was excited by this place since there seem to have been people from philly and nyc who gave it praise. Alas, I'm convinced everyone who rated this place highly has no taste buds. I tried two of the highly rated pizzas here: the margherita and the tartufata. The sauce for the marg is so bland, it honestly tastes like they just poured store bought red sauce over the pizza. Probably two basil leaves MAX were used to sprinkle on the pizza, which made it taste very sad and lacked the freshness. The tartufata was ok but also lacking in truffle flavor. If you're looking for the artisanal pizza experience, sadly this restaurant will not deliver. read more

Last Tuesday, my wife and I stopped in for a slice or two of pizza and a bowl of soup, respectively. Unfortunately, I found out they don't offer pizza by the slice, only whole pizzas so that was out, consequently one star deducted. Instead I ordered a cheeseburger, plain, which came with fries. My wife ordered chicken noodle soup and coffee. The burger was fine, ditto the fries, I just could not finish everything. The homemade soup, one size only, was very good with plenty of chicken and broad noodles. The service was excellent. read more

Delicious pizza! Delicious meatballs! Delicious beer! I visited on a Wednesday night around 7:30. Not packed, but a good amount of people. Service was great, very friendly. I had the 4 cheese pizza. It was baked perfectly. The cheeses were tasty and the crust was crunchy and had just the right amount of char spots, as it should, having been baked in a brick oven. And let's not forget the crunchy bubbles in the crust.. my favorite part! Pizza here is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Tasty ingredients and fresh made. I had the meatballs for an appetizer. Delicious! Atmosphere was nice and darkish. This is not a typical Berks County pizza place with fluorescent light bulbs and a dirty floor. This is a place where you want to come in and sit down and enjoy a pizza baked and served immediately. Came for the first time tonight with my husband and had a really tasty evening! I'm a salad person, so I wanted a little salad before pizza and wasn't too psyched about the typical cranberry and pecan thing, but arugula and endive are so tasty, so I made a tweak and got tomatoes and roasted artichokes on it. Great choice. Dressing was delicious too. We had the Primavera pizza and another that I can't recall the name of, but both definitely brought Nonno Alby's pizza to the #1 position in my "Best Pizza in the Area" line-up. Thin crust and a lovely dough with great flavor from the wood oven. Sauce wasn't too heavy or salty and all of the toppings were high quality. Just a great pizza all around. We will definitely be ordering take out here the next time we want pizza and we will definitely be back again to sit down. Our waitress was super friendly and a pleasure to talk to. I've been dying to try this place for a few months now and finally got the chance. First off as many reviewers stated it is BYOB which is great! Started out with a Caprice a salad homemade buffalo mozzarella on focaccia bread it was amazing!!! We each got pizzas and shared slices of each different kind. The sauce was great and the sun dried olives were a surprisingly new excellent addition to pizza. I had a to go order to place which they take took great care in packing appropriately and was still hot when I got brought it home to my husband. read more

Fantastic! We blindly stumbled upon this place after finding out that Chatty Monk's was packed -- and we are beyond glad we did. This was much more than I expecting it to be. The staff and chefs here take pride in what they do, which shows in exceptional service and food preparation. As eccentric as the pizza menu was, the burgers seemed a bit more adventurous. A burger made out of buffalo meat?! Nonno, you had me intrigued and I must say the restaurant delivered with a delicious burger that was fresh on all accords and professionally done. The fresh-cut fries make a difference as the mound of fries was fantastic as well. All in all, this may be the best burger and fries I've ever had... It's at least in the top 3! Excellent, excellent restaurant. The one word I will stress when it comes to Nonno Alby's is CONSISTENCY. My girlfriend and I eat here at least once a week, and the quality, presentation and taste of Nonno Alby's food never wavers. The restaurant is BYOB (UPDATE: beer and wine are now on tap, no longer BYOB). You can pick up cold craft beers two doors down at The Barley Mow, or a block away in the other direction at The West Reading Tavern. The former has a larger selection but both stock good beer. This is simple, wood-fired pizza. Toppings are top quality and used somewhat sparingly, but to great effect. There are currently 17 different pizzas offered on the menu, each in the $10 to $13 range. You can also add toppings to create your own, but this tends to get pricey. The pizzas are billed as personal sized, but we find a shared appetizer and a pizza (and dessert!) usually fits the bill. They also have a smaller but equally excellent selection of burgers, ranging from black angus beef with smoked provolone and smoked bacon, to bison and buffalo burger offerings. Recently, in what I imagine is a nod to the nearby Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza franchise in nearby Wyomissing, Nonno Alby's added wood-fired chicken wings to the menu. TRY THEM. They are excellent. Appetizers include a grilled eggplant dish (our favorite), tilapia bruchetta, and a variety of salads. They also have a nice rotating dessert menu, and espresso. Nonno Alby's has a great staff! The waitresses are always friendly, chatty, and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is a bit small, but if there's a wait it's generally not a long one. They also have outdoor seating over the summer. You can't go wrong with this place. They do what they do extremely well. We will continue to be regulars at Nonno Alby's, and encourage you to do the same! read more
