It's been a while since my last review of Noodle Man on Sam's Drive near Sam's Club, just off Battlefield Boulevard in the heart of Chesapeake, so... let's get into it. This is a great place to take the little ones because they love to watch them do their thing in the kitchen while they're making noodles. Admittedly, I really enjoy watching the show as much as my granddaughter. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful with menu questions and suggestions if you're on the fence about what to order. They have a great selection of items with something for everyone. I will give you a warning that their portions are large so keep that in mind unless you're planning on taking some home with you. This is a staple anytime we are in the area. As always the food is good and fresh. The staff and service is great, very polite and attentive. The hubby ordered his usual Mongolian Beef and broccoli. I usually order the jalapeño chicken but this time I opted to create my own noodle bowl by ordering the vegetable stir fry, add jalapeño, chicken and shrimp and it was delicious. I shared with my youngest and there was plenty of food. We actually had leftovers. Oh, the hubby ordered the strawberry tea, which is also amazing. If in the area, give them a try. If you love noodle soup, you must try Noodle Man! I love to eat pho and ramen, but this is neither. I prefer the "regular" soup (B1), which has tender thin sliced beef shank and daikon radish in an absolutely amazing broth with a ton of their fresh in house made noodles. Yes, there is someone always pulling and twisting new noodles in full view of the restaurant. The soup just feeling nourishing to the body, and you can tell they love what they cook. Many times when I have dined in, I've received my soup faster than many fast food places! Their appetizers are refreshing too. I like to get the spicy marinated cucumbers, which have a mild heat to them that is balanced well by the savory sauce they are marinated in. My friend and coworker Yoonie took me to this fantastic noodle place! When we first walked in we were greeted by a friendly hostess. The service here was really great. Our waitress was attentive and kind too. Yoonie, being the Noodle Man expert, ordered for us. We decided to eat family style (my favorite). Here's what we got: Salt & Spicy Squid: Such a great flavor! Crunchy and salty in an extremely addictive way. These were like fries in the sense that once you have one you can't stop eating them! Only complaint is a lot of the pieces were more breading that squid, but they still had an amazing flavor. Pork Wonton w/ Chili Oil: These were little flavor bombs! So tasty! This was my favorite of the three things we tried. They weren't too spicy and had the right amount of flavor. The scallions and peanuts on top added a very nice crunch. Tomato/Beef Brisket Noodle Soup: One word: DELICIOUS! They make their noodles fresh here which is such a beautiful touch. I loved how tender the beef was, it melted like butter in my mouth. I was concerned it would be too tomatoey, but the tomatoes just complimented the dish. Savory, but almost sweet, this was very close to being my favorite of the three. Noodle Man is a hidden gem, or at least it was to me. I had never heard of it until I moved to Chesapeake a couple of years ago. You can see the staff inside the kitchen, hard at work making the noodles by hand. It's kinda hypnotizing watching them flip and pull the dough around. My favorite dish is the tomato and beef noodle soup, which is hearty and filling. The noodles are delicious and the beef is so tender. I've tried other soups from them, but this one is the standout in my opinion. Appetizer-wise, I enjoy their salt and spicy shrimp (doesn't have much heat, but I like the flavor) and their dumplings with chili oil. read more

It's amazing when a second location is just as amazing as the first. With a bigger space, you might even say it's better as this is the location I pick if I'm dining with a group larger than 4. This location is clean (with clean bathrooms) with wonderful service just like the one in VB. I don't think the wait is bad nor does it feel as crowded as the VB location either. Anything salt & spicy on the menu will be a guaranteed hit, but the consistency, quality, and flavors of the salt & spicy wings keeps me coming back and taking these bad bois to-go. The quantity of the mongolian beef stir fry is fantastic because I can order that and share the plethora of appetizers I love such as the pork wontons in hot chili oil, leek dumplings, salt & spicy squid, and scallion pancakes. Got the spicy chili sauce in a container to go for $5 because it's that good. My experience could've been a lot better if our young waitress was more pleasant. She was not attentive to our needs, I had to practically yell for her attention as she walked away so we could get utensils. And she would drop our food off like it was a drive by. I've been to their other location once, so I reread my other review and decided to retry said items here. I can easily say I wasn't as impressed this time. We came for a lunch date, since grandma was available to watch our newest little lady. Parking is in a shared lot, but we had no issue finding a spot. We walk in and are greeted promptly. We're taken to a booth which was pretty nice. It was so slow that every new party that came in was given a booth as well. I think the booths may be a little tight for some people, I know if I came in during my last trimester of pregnancy there is no way I would have fit comfortably. Soda machine was down, and the only tea I wanted to try, lychee was out. I got a water for my drink and the pork chili wonton for my appetizer. The appetizer wasn't terrible, but it didn't 'wow' me. I felt that it was underwhelming and not incredibly flavorful in any part. I think I over-hyped myself up after reading my previous review at their other location. I got the hot and spicy noodle soup, but if I'm being honest, I didn't really enjoy it either. The noodles were very thick at the ends. Instead of separating the strands completely, there were little sloppy thumb sized lumps of noodle that connected several pieces. I'm a visual and texture person, so having several blobs was really rough on me. The broth was just there. My husband was raving about his, but mine didn't really taste of anything but oil. The ground pork was really nice, but was hard to grab as it fell to the abyss of the bowl with the fork, and I didn't really want to slurp oil with the soup spoon. They do offer a military discount, so that was pretty nice. I can't say we'll be back, but you never know. read more

I've been to Noodle Man, countless times.. both at the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach locations. I prefer the Chesapeake location, as it's bigger and have more elbow room. I've tried a few dishes, but my favorite are the Salty and Spicy Squid, and the Tomato Brisket Soup. Aahhh.. where do I begin? If you love squid, or calamari, you have to try their Salty and Spicy Squid. The squid is cooked to perfection. It is crunchy, a bit spicy but not too much, and delicious! One of the best I've tried. The broth in their Tomato Brisket Soup has depth of flavors, and the noodles have a little bite to it.. which I love. I've also tried the jalapeño chicken noodles (good!), the salty and spicy chicken wings (also good but the squid is better!), chicken and shrimp spring roll (OMG! Delicious!) and the chicken fried rice.. which to me, is amazing, but if you are used to the nasty Panda Express fried rice, you might find this different.. or too authentic. Hehe. Noods are my fave (ok, maybe sweets too) and NM knows how to make them right, fresh and hand pulled, hot or cold, fried or in a soup, mild or spicy...so many different ways! I've only been twice but they definitely keep me hooked every time to go back and try a new dish! - Parking - Center lot. - Vibe - It's clean and beautiful black and white murals showcasing how they made noodles in the old days with chinese calligraphy, give you something interesting to look at while you're waiting. The kitchen is also open, but enclosed with plexiglass, so you can see the activity in the kitchen. They have counte/bar seating so you have front row seats to all the action. - Service - They've always been so nice and accommodating. - Noms - Salt & Spicy Chicken Wings - Nice and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with slices of jalapeño (eat one with each bite for a nice kick) Salt & Spicy Squid - same as above. Lot more tentacles than body pieces, but these are so good. I've even eaten them as leftovers COLD and they are still good, but that's just me. Pork Wonton in Chili Oil - I could have eaten probably 3 orders of these. Seafood Noodle Soup - This soup is very plain, but it draws on each individual flavor of the seafood ingredients. Super clean and soothing. Mongolian Beef Stir-Fried Noodle - Big slices of beef with peppers and onions. Nice and hearty. Kung Pao Chicken Stir-Fried Noodle - I felt like this was similar to the Mongolian Beef dish, but great. Tomato & Brisket Noodle Soup - I've read so many reviews on this dish and didn't order it the first time because of the orders we made to accomodate our kids, but oh my! I just loved the flavor of the broth. The brisket was soft and packed with so much flavor, like they've been cooking it for hours and love the chunks of tomatoes and the baby bok choy. So warming on chilly days that we've been having lately. This is NM's 2nd location, I have yet to visit their original location in VB, but so thankful NM is nearby! My first visit this place wowed me! I had the Hot & Spicy Noodle Soup and Spicy Cucumber Salad. The noodles had the perfect chew and the soup broth had the perfect level of spice and an amazing depth of flavor. Little bits of fermented mustard greens added a tart zing; peanuts for a little crunch. The cucumber salad was a cooling counterpoint to the hot soup. The difficulty with achieving consistency when a second restaurant opens is always a challenge. I was not an early diner to Noodle Man in Chesapeake providing more than adequate time for me to fully evaluate their consistency with the first Noodle opened in Virginia Beach. The location is off the beaten path somewhat in a small strip by Sam's Club. Parking seems adequate and the lot was clean. I walked in and was quickly seated at a booth by a young female waitress. A menu was provided, however I knew that it was my favorite tomato brisket I desired. The dining room bares similarities to Virginia Beach, however it's larger. The bar area features seating up close to watch the noodle man perform the stretching and pulling of hand pulled noodles. Within 10 minutes my bowl was delivered. I had a water to drink that was refilled. The soup had a familiar aroma and that was heaven to me. Steam rose off the bowl and I first went to the broth to compare. It was spot on! An exact replica of VB wonderful pho. The noodles were hot and delicious too! The brisket overall compared, however there was one piece that was overly fatty and was scrapped. My waitress did follow up. The comparison has been done and to my amazement it's a tie for the tomato brisket. My assumption is if they perfected this dish others will be the same incredible level of quality. I'm overdue for an update to 5 stars for the VB location, I'm not going to get this wrong. 4.5 rounding up. read more

Years ago, my girlfriend and I traveled to Virginia Beach to check out this restaurant after seeing them featured on one of the local news outlets. Their food was amazing and having a front-row view of the head chef creating noodles in various ways was icing on the cake. They happened to open up another location which is actually close to my last job. So we decided to see if this equals the original spot. Once we walked in, we were immediately seated. All of the staff wore masks. Safety first. For our app, we chose pork wontons in chili oil. They even gave us saucers to use for the food. Even though the food wasn't spicy enough for my tastes (my girlfriend didn't mind since she's not into spicy food), it was pretty good and well cooked. A nice start for our meals. I chose the tomato and beef brisket noodle soup and she chose shrimp fried rice (not pictured). Very, very good. I did request for some soy sauce and chili oil to use, but honestly you don't need it at all. This dish, to me, was like beef stew, but instead of rice was homemade noodles which made it very hearty. The beef was tender with every bite and the veggies were well done. Only things missing were carrots, potatoes and green beans. Overall, a wonderful time to this location. Even though we didn't get to sit at the front of the house to see the chefs make noodles (a wonderful sight for those who do), it didn't matter. We were both satisfied with our dishes and will come back in the future to try some more. read more

We went here as a group of 4 over the weekend and all loved our soups with the fresh noodles. The broth was surprisedly not heavy but light. I also loved my lychee tea, wish there was less ice but still good. I don't feel overly full after either which is sometimes the issue with having soup at restaurants.
