I'm pretty sure that there's one thing that divides the population of UT Dallas more easily than anything else, and that's the best Thai place within 15 minutes of campus. There are your Bambu buffs, your Noodle Wave nuts, and two or three of those poor, sad souls who stan for Sawadika (just kidding, that place is a'ight). I think based on my star review, you can guess what camp I fall into. Noodle Wave is one of those places that I want to take everyone I know to-- but I don't, because it's freaking crowded enough as it is. It takes a while to get seated, but you'll eat enough to enter a Grade A food coma, so I can see how it may take a bit longer than expected to get people to leave. I also don't mind waiting because somehow, 95% of the people here are ridiculously good looking. I usually go with my boyfriend, but that doesn't stop us from being mega sleazeballs and droolin' over all the other diners. (Motorcycle guy who sat next to us last time, if you're reading this: haaaaay.) Their website also tells me that on (or up to five days after!) your birthday, they'll give you a free appetizer, entree, and dessert. The catch? You have to bring four friends with you who are buying entrees. Not a big deal unless you're a superdork like me (and the rest of the UTD population, too). Still, that's a killer deal. Oh thank you, yelpers, for the review on this! I was in Richardson for a lengthy family visit and thought I'd lose my mind with too much meat and taters cooked by those well meaning folks at home. I convinced them to let me pick up lunch to see if they'd like it. AND BOY DID THEY!?! I was conservative on my ordering, but saw so many wonderful things on their menu. We got red and yellow curries and the pad thai. All were fabulous, exceeding my expectations and my folks are now fans. They were really surprised that this was two blocks from their home. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They invited me to the bar for a glass of tea while I waited. I think there were five people seeking to meet my to-go needs. I was there about 11:30 for my lunch order and there were several business-type folks already enjoying lunch there. The atmosphere inside is surprising as the strip center is just that...a strip center....but inside is a beautiful small restaurant. They had candles on the bar for lunch, too...nice ambiance. Dear Baby Jesus, why did I think it was a good idea to finish my plate at lunch today? Now I am both sleepy and contemplating trying to nap under my desk. The inside of NW is cute, not at all what I expected when driving up to this strip center. I've been several times for lunch, and there's a definite rush. It's pretty cozy inside. I was sat at the bar with my friend which was way faster than waiting for a table. I've come in a larger group before, and it was a hassle. They hope to only split a check 4 ways max, and it was a difficult ordeal. Keeping the group small will ensure you an easier lunch. I ordered the southern style spicy fried rice. I love this rice. You can get it with chicken or beef and it has bok choy and chinese broccoli along with onions and maybe egg? There's also some tomato in there, but i just push that over to the side. This is probably my fav thing here, but I haven't disliked anything I've gotten here. I could have easily left enough rice to eat for another meal, but knowing full well I wouldn't be able to drop it off to refrigerate, I convinced myself that eating it all now and not wasting was the better idea. This restaurant sucks! There was a worm in the food （green curry) yesterday!!! I went there with my husband for lunch, then I lost my appetite after i saw the alive worm in my food. Then they spent another 20 minutes to get me another plate, the second plate had no carrot decoration on the top. In addition, when I got the food, my husband was already done with his lunch, so he could only sat there and watched me eating. The waitress DID NOT even apologize about the worm, NO SMILE to us from the very beginning and they still charge us a full price of it. This place is legit! Hands down to the best authentic Thai food in DFW area! We came here on weekends and it is always packed. The atmosphere is clean and feels like family-run. Nice greetings from wait staffs. They are always friendly and helpful. I love spicy taste and they bring me a spicy tray without asking. Food comes out super fast. Their food is really good. My favorites are Yen Ta Fo, Chuchee curry, and their roti dishes. Never left me disappointed! Might try their other dishes since their menu is variety than other Thai places. Noodle Wave is unassuming upon first glance. With a mediocre location in a shopping center that doesn't draw much attention this little gem is easy to miss. Luckily I was introduced to this restaurant by some friends who knew there way around the area. Their water spinach, garlic fish, red soup (not sure of the actual name on the menu)...I've yet to have a bad dish at this restaurant. I'll be blunt and say the food is incredible. I will note that it is common for non-American restaurants to not take me [and I'm sure, others] seriously when I state I want the food spicy. I assume it is because there are a lot of Americans who *think* they want it spicy then send it back because they weren't looking for native-spicy. SSSSS Boom Bah, this place rocks!! I was introduced to it by a cage fighter friend of mine whose Muy Thai instructor eats there regularly. Very authentic. First of all, the food is tastey like bacon. The Tom Khai Gai is a mouthwatering appetizer that comes quick and stays long. Second, the food is a good value, with average meal less than 20 dollars and more around 15 - this includes tip. Third, this place is BYO for alcohol. You bring the beverage and they'll bring the glasses. Snifters for brandy, flutes for champagne, shot glasses for tequila. This cuts your bill significantly and there'sa liquor store next door. Fourth, their spiciness is rated on a 1 to 4 scale, but, if you ask, you can get up to a 6 for those of us that like it hot - like me. Myself, if i'm not crying at the end of a meal, i feel i havent eaten. (sometimes I poke myself in the eye for dessert) Fifth....and this is a doozey, if you are a woman, and you tell them it's your birthday, they will bring out a birthday surprise that can best be described as... a "dil-cake" It's a fried banana, with two scoops of ice cream and a few other accoutrements that add surprising detail to their phallic sculpture. When you see it, you will laugh so hard your face will hurt. I take friends and out of town visitors here regularly. I get the Pad Kee Mow, Thai spicy ...which is beyond 5 STARS+ spicy level! it's pretty authentic since they use a lot of basil and actually uses GROUNDED CHICKEN meat!!! One of the best Thai spots in Dallas. Impressive menu. Dozens of stand-out dishes. BYOB. Try bringing a French Rosé, a light white (Chenin Blanc), or a slightly-sweet white. All should work well with spicy Thai dishes. I've been visiting Noodle Wave for many years, and am still running into new dishes that surprise me. Unlike 5+ years ago, this place is no longer off-the-radar... peak times (lunch and dinner) can be crowded. For lunch, Noodle Wave serves much-better-than-average soups as an appetizer. It's so nice to get something made in-house (even if simple), rather than the reconstituted blah-ness at many other Thai spots. Appetizers: If you think you might like dry rub spicy-fried shredded Thai chicken, try the Herbal Chicken for starters. The house rolls are yummy as well. All the standards are here, and executed better than most in Dallas: Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mow, Panang Curry, etc. Crispy whole fish is fantastic. Several other dishes are unique and terrific... my recommendation is to scan dishes coming out of the kitchen and order whatever looks good to you. Hot-n-spicy fans: sometimes, a five-star spice level (highest) on a dish can create an off-the-charts burn. I'd go with 3-4 stars. This is not a place where you need to go spicy just for added flavor. Many dishes are fine at 2-3 stars, and some dishes are wonderful without anything (Singapore noodles, a little on the sweet side for me, but still wonderful). The not-so-goods: Out-of-the-way strip mall of suspect nature, cheesy signage, sub-par iced tea (owners should visit Chow Thai for mango tea ideas), dining at peak times can be crowded and service can suffer. Food was probably a smidge better years ago before the owners opened their 2nd location in McKinney. No pork served (Halal). But, I'm nitpicking here. This place is great for Thai food! The killer appetizer that my family and I get is the tempura water spinach. The water spinach is fried lightly and tossed with a yummy chili sauce. We'll also get the crab rangoons which are good. The tom kha soup is amazing! You can choose your level of spiciness from 1-5, and I usually get 3 since I like heat but not so much of it. Just get a bowl of rice and ladle many spoonfuls into the bowl and enjoy. It's that great. The soup usually comes with 4 to 5 soft shrimp, mushrooms, and sliced tomatoes. I can usually just eat this by itself while my parents eat other dishes. Another great dish is the spicy crabmeat noodles. From what I can remember, the yellow curry was pretty good. Pad See Iew was alright, nothing extraordinary, from what I can remember. My dad once ordered the crispy garlic whole fish, and literally it was just the whole fish pan fried (I think) with tons of toasted garlic all over the fish. It didn't impress much. Dessert is also good if you have room. I recommend any of the ice cream flavors they offer and the cinnamon pastry swirl. mmm Noodle Wave is one of the few restaurants who can bring tears to my eyes, in a good way of course. I'm a big spice fan (I worship Siracha)and am always having to ask restaurants to make dishes at their highest spice level AND to bring out a spice tray but their 4 or 5 spice level here hits the spot just right. On my last visit here I had the corn patties which had the perfect amount of corn and batter and the spicy crab fried rice. I normally don't like to order things that I can easily cook at home but I heard great things about this dish and had to give it a try. It was a moist and spicy treat! After all the ranting and raving, I couldn't wait for some Noodle Wave. Seriously, every ounce of fat kid in me would have been dancing a jig of sweet, Thai curry anticipation if it wouldn't have burned too many calories. Alas, I was terribly disappointed but at least I didn't waste my time with the jig. The restaurant itself looked quite nice inside, despite it's questionable-at-best strip mall exterior. And this place was packed, even sardines would have complained packed, with people waiting to be seated. Clearly I was about to taste the food of the gods, right? Wrong. My empty stomach getting the better of me, we decided to grab some food to-go instead of waiting the 30 minutes for a table. Good thing too, as it still took 40 minutes after we placed our order of red curry (with tofu) and almond siracha chicken. Once we arrived home to begin our feast, we were immediately disappointed. For starters, there was in fact chicken and not tofu in my curry. When we called back the hostess apologized for putting the order in incorrectly and informed us it would be about 30 minutes for them to make me a new dish. 30 minutes? After a 40 minute wait for to go, they expect me to survive another 30? I was hungry before we got there, I was near a cannibalistic state now. We bartered them down to 15 minutes and headed back. Back to the food... on a scale of 1-4 spice factor, I asked for a 5. When I go to an Asian restaurant and ask for a spicy dish, as an Asian, I expect it to be spicy. I'm fairy certain my mother put kimchi that packed more of a punch in my baby food. Totally mild curry aside, the dish clearly still lacked something that I couldn't quite identify. I ended up adding some coconut milk to it and it seamed to help a bit. Now as for the chicken... I'm pretty sure they sourced their "tempura chicken" from Chic-fil-a, seriously, I'm pretty sure they are Chicfila chicken nuggets. I stopped making the trip since I can find similar food but better service in other restaurants in closer proximity. Now that I no longer live in the North Dallas area I take whatever excuse I can to stop by for dinner at this lovely little gem, hidden away in a scruffy-looking shopping center. Interior decor is inventive and very modern. Music used to be a lovely ambient mix, though it was different the last time I visited. Overall, a comfortable, intimate little place inside with a very unassuming exterior. I've been a devotee of the Tom Kha soup for years, though I've tried quite a few things on the menu and never been disappointed. As mentioned in the other reviews, another sure bet is the pad thai, and I adore the chicken satay as well (and that cucumber dip sauce!). I never skip the desert here - I adore the fried banana and the ice cream choices, particularly coconut and green tea. They do spicy well and boldly here, so timid palates beware of upping the kick too much. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you receive - I always end up taking food home, and the service has always been a positive experience for me, though sometimes when it's crowded a little patience is required. A friend drug me into this place recently, as I have never had Thai food, and I didn't know what to expect. I have to say, it was pretty good. I don't recall what I ordered, because I don't do hot foods, and it wasn't very hot and spicy, but it was tasty! We went in for a late lunch, I think close to 130 or so and it was busy and noisy. It took close to an hour for it to get a little quiet and that was my only complaint. Food came out probably within about 10 minutes or so and it was a good portion for a good price. You know, it seems like in general Dallas thai does up their restaurants so they look upscale and can charge more. I wish I could find a thai "dive" that was cheap. Despite the cheesy sign, the interior of Noodle Wave sort of dramatic and intimate. Their menu has a lot of variety, including a few items that lean towards other areas of Asia. The portions were HUGE... my curry was easily enough for two meals by my standards. I enjoyed the roti curry, but I ordered it "medium" heat and it was just as hot as my husband, who requested maximum spice. The spring rolls were fine, nothing disappointing or amazing. My favorite restaurant in the DFW. Favorites are Tung Tac w/ Chicken, Almond Sriracha Chicken, Pad See Ewe, Herbal Chicken Appetizer, and coconut ice cream. Not a fan or their Pad thai, which is the only thing I haven't liked on their menu. The only thing to be noted is their spice level fluctuates, sometimes level 3 spice is perfect and other times it's either too spicy or not spicy enough. We ordered about 8 dishes, all were perfectly spiced at number 3 except one dish that was so spicy that we had to have them bring another. Definitely is my favorite Thai restauratn in DFW area. First, the place is really nice design. I think the place is nice enough for you to bring date there. I order the Roti curry with Chicken with 3 spicy. The entree also come with a soup. The is actually pretty good, it have rice in it and also some veggie etc. So the curry was just really good, I can taste the curry and the coconut milk in it. The pop shrimp papaya salad is awesome. Let the little dried shrimp soak in the fish sauce a little bit, and they are juicy and crunchy at the same time - yum. The khao soy was better than most I've had around here because they put a variety of vegetables/garnishes in it, so the curry flavor doesn't get boring. I don't know if we went on an "off" night or what. My husband and I drove out of our way to come check this place out since my family raved about it. Family can't be wrong right? oh...yes...they...can... The place was packed on a Sunday early evening, so we thought the place had to be good right? All these people can't be wrong... I had been craving some really good Thai Beef Salad, and my mom said it was her favorite, so I had to try it. I should have know when they brought it out that it wasn't gonna taste right. I ordered it at spice level 3 (their menu states 1-4). It looked like it was going to be really spicy. Wrong. After taking off the mountain of shredded carrots from the top, I found myself scavenging for "grilled" (more like charred) pieces of beef. I must of had like 3 decent sized pieces of beef before going on the hunt...on top of that there was more sliced onions (both white and red) and even more shredded carrots in my "salad". I know they place was busy, but couldn't they have chopped my salad instead of putting 2 giant pieces of iceberg lettuce on the plate? I literally had to take my fork and cut the lettuce into bite size pieces. That's not the worst part though...the worst part was my salad being drenched in syrup. Yeah, that's how sweet it was. I asked our waitress for some limes cause the salad was missing the sour notes. I must have squeezed the juice of 3limes on my salad and it was still SWEET. Even my side of white rice was MUSHY and wasn't worth eating. The tom yum was also sweet...we ordered it spice level 4, and it was barely spicy. Again, no sour taste, just sweet. It tasted like it was missing lemon grass and kaffir lime leaves. All I saw in there were chunks of galangal. My husband ordered the yellow curry...again, spice level 4. While he did say the spice came afterwords, he also said his dish tasted sweet. I had to try~ yup! it was sweet.... We left over a lot of our meal and that is saying a lot cause we usually clean our plates up. I kept texting my family wondering if I came to the wrong place. There is no way my family could be wrong about Thai food, cause we love us some Thai food. They told me the chef must be different cause both times they went to noodle wave, they went at lunch. When I first drove up to Noodle Wave, I was definitely very skeptical. I have never been to this part of Dallas before, and it was definitely sketchy. If several people I knew hadn't raved about Noodle Wave, we would have left right away. Food - 4/5 1. Pad see ew - This was a good standard pad see ew. I wish it had more vegetables though. 2. Roti chicken curry - The curry sauce was good, not the best I've ever had, but good. I liked that were very plenty of carrots and potatoes. The portion seemed very generous, but there wasn't very much chicken and the sauce was dry. The highlight of the dish was the paratha (the bread on the side). It's basically like an unrolled croissant and absolutely divine. Service - 1/5 We came in around 5, so it definitely wasn't busy. There were more tables seated as we started to eat, but they seated us in a far corner of the restaurant away from other tables. Thus, we were basically neglected the entire time. When I needed ask for extra silverware, I had to go up to the staff, because no one was paying attention to us.
